Call for Papers
*3^rd International Workshop on Teaching Analytics (IWTA)*
*http://www.next-tell.eu/teachinganalytics/iwta-2013b/***
*at*
*EC-TEL 2013 (**http://www.ec-tel.eu/**)*
*Wednesday, 18-September-2012***
*Paphos, Cyprus*
Purpose
The core problem that this workshop series on "Teaching
Analytics" addresses is that in comparison with most other
professionals that work in dynamically changing
environments, teachers do not get the information they need
for decision making in a timely fashion and in a meaningful
and actionable format. Teaching Analytics is conceived as a
subfield of learning analytics that focuses on the design,
development, evaluation, and education of visual analytics
methods and tools for teachers in primary, secondary, and
tertiary educational settings. Furthermore, diagnostic data
can be collected and needs to be displayed in real-time
during a classroom activity or of smaller groups. Teachers'
professional practices with visual analytics methods and
tools are a central concern of teaching analytics. Teaching
analytics methods and tools aim to develop innovative
solutions to assist and augment teachers' dynamic diagnostic
decision-making in the classrooms of the 21st century. An
example usage scenario (but not limited to) is the use of
teaching analytics methods and tools in high-performance
classrooms that are characterized by 1:1 computing, high
cognitive density, and big data.
Building on the NEXT-TELL project, the first international
workshop on teaching analytics (TAPTA-2012) held at EC-TEL
2012 (http://www.next-tell.eu/tapta/) and the second
workshop held at LAK-2013
(http://www.next-tell.eu/iwta-2013/), this workshop explores
pedagogical and research approaches to studying teachers'
use of visual analytical techniques and tools. This
workshop's ambitious objective is to jumpstart a new
learning analytics research stream on teaching analytics by
bringing together learning scientists in different
sub-fields such as CSCL, ITS, EDM, researchers in Visual
Analytics, and data scientists working with "Big Data" in
public institutions and private enterprises. In addition to
researchers, we are also targeting teachers at primary,
secondary, and tertiary levels of education to be involved
as co-designers and discussants.
Topics
For the third workshop, we specifically seek position papers
on pedagogical and research approaches to educating and
investigating teachers' needs and use of visual analytical
techniques and tools. Other topics of interest include but
are not limited to the following:
·Historical and contemporary practices in notations,

*Call for Papers: State-of-the-Art in Electronic Commerce
after 30 years*
/Special issue of the Journal of Theoretical and Applied
Electronic Commerce Research/
Editors: Dr. Narciso Cerpa and Dr. Harry Bouwman
The /Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce
Research /is planning a special issue on State-of-the-Art in
Electronic Commerce after 30 years.
In 1984, Gateshead SIS/Tesco was the first
Business-to-Customer online shopping (Michael Aldrich) and
Mrs Snowball, was the first online home shopper
(http://www.aldricharchive.com/snowball.html
<http://ekimelu.com:8080/followup/link/10403/30/3/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5hbGRyaWNoYX…>;
http://www.aldricharchive.com/downloads/IM_Gateshead%20Council.pdf
<http://ekimelu.com:8080/followup/link/10403/30/3/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5hbGRyaWNoYX…>).
In 1984, CompuServe launched the Electronic Mall in the USA
and Canada. This was the first comprehensive electronic
commerce service
(http://www.gsbrown.org/compuserve/electronic-mall-1984-04/). In
1994, after the World Wide Web was created, Pizza hut
offered online ordering on its webpage. The same year, the
first online bank opened. Next year, 2014, it will be 30
years from the first online shopping and 20 years from the
first web-based online ordering system.
Electronic commerce commonly known as e-commerce, refers to
activities related to buying and selling a product or
service over the Internet or conducting transactions to
transfer the ownership or rights of use goods or services
through a computer network. A newer definition of e-commerce
is the use of communications and information technology in
business transactions to create, transform, and redefine
relationships between or among organizations, and between
organizations and individuals with the aim of adding value.
Electronic commerce encompasses technologies such as online
transaction processing, supply chain management, Internet
marketing, inventory management systems, electronic funds
transfer, inter-organizational systems, and automated data
collection systems. Currently electronic commerce uses the
World Wide Web at least at one point in the transaction's
life-cycle, and it may encompass a variety of technologies
such as mobile devices, social media, e-mail, and others.
Electronic commerce is generally considered to be the sales
aspect of e-business. It also consists of the exchange of
data to facilitate the financing and payment aspects of
business transactions. E-commerce can be divided into
different types: business-to-business (B2B);
business-to-consumer (B2C); business-to-government (B2G);
consumer-to-consumer (C2C); and mobile commerce (m-commerce).
After 30 years of electronic commerce, we have a good reason
to run a special issue to discuss the state-of-the-art. This
special issue of Electronic Commerce aims to provide an
overview of the state-of-the-art in the field of electronic
commerce highlighting international contributions that
systematically and critically explore the various fields of
Electronic Commerce over the last 20 to 30 years, and
outlining the challenges for future research. We invite high
quality submissions focusing on all aspects of electronic
commerce, including both business and technology issues.
Areas of interest include, but are not restricted to
different topics in: Business-to-Business;
Business-to-Consumer; Business-to-Government;
Consumer-to-Consumer; and Mobile Commerce.
All articles should consider the presentation of the
state-of-the-art through review methods such as systematic
literature review, meta-analysis, network approach towards
review, etc., with the aim of understanding the level of
knowledge and development achieved in the last 30 years, and
to outline an agenda with the challenges for future research.
*Important dates*
* Full paper submission: 1 November 2013
* Notification of acceptance: 15 January 2013
* Revised submission: 1 March 2013
* Final acceptance notification: 15 March 2014
* Camera ready version of paper: 15 April 2014

===============================================================================
ACM RecSys Workshop on
Reproducibility and Replication in Recommender Systems Evaluation - RepSys2013
7th ACM Recommender Systems Conference (RecSys 2013)
Hong Kong, China, 12 or 16 October 2013
http://repsys.project.cwi.nl
===============================================================================
* Submission deadline: 22 July 2013 *
== Scope ==
Experiment replication and reproduction are key requirements for empirical
research methodology, and an important open issue in the field of Recommender
Systems. When an experiment is repeated by a different researcher and exactly
the same result is obtained, we can say the experiment has been replicated. When
the results are not exactly the same but the conclusions are compatible with the
prior ones, we have a reproduction of the experiment. Reproducibility and
replication involve recommendation algorithm implementations, experimental
protocols, and evaluation metrics. While the problem of reproducibility and
replication has been recognized in the Recommender Systems community, the need
for a clear solution remains largely unmet, which motivates the present
workshop.
== Topics ==
We invite the submission of papers reporting original research, studies,
advances, experiences, or work in progress in the scope of reproducibility and
replication in Recommender Systems evaluation. Papers explicitly dealing with
replication of previously published experimental conditions/algorithms/metrics
and the resulting analysis are encouraged. In particular, we seek discussions on
the difficulties the authors may find in this process, along with their
limitations or successes on reproducing the original results.
The topics the workshop seeks to address include –though need not be limited to–
the following:
* Limitations and challenges of experimental reproducibility and replication
* Reproducible experimental design
* Replicability of algorithms
* Standardization of metrics: definition and computation protocols
* Evaluation software: frameworks, utilities, services
* Reproducibility in user-centric studies
* Datasets and benchmarks
* Recommender software reuse
* Replication of already published work
* Reproducibility within and across domains and organizations
* Reproducibility and replication guidelines
== Submission ==
Two submission types are accepted: long papers of up to 8 pages, and short
papers up to 4 pages. The papers will be evaluated for their originality,
contribution significance, soundness, clarity, and overall quality. The interest
of contributions will be assessed in terms of technical and scientific findings,
contribution to the knowledge and understanding of the problem, methodological
advancements, or applicative value. Specific contributions focusing on
repeatability and reproducibility in terms of algorithm implementations,
evaluation frameworks and/or practice will also be welcome and valued.
All submissions shall adhere to the standard ACM SIG proceedings format:
http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates.
Submissions shall be sent as a pdf file through the online submission system now
open at: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=repsys2013.

* Conference background and goals
The IADIS CELDA 2013 conference aims to address the main issues
concerned with evolving learning processes and supporting pedagogies and
applications in the digital age. There have been advances in both
cognitive psychology and computing that have affected the educational
arena. The convergence of these two disciplines is increasing at a fast
pace and affecting academia and professional practice in many ways.
Paradigms such as just-in-time learning, constructivism,
student-centered learning and collaborative approaches have emerged and
are being supported by technological advancements such as simulations,
virtual reality and multi-agents systems. These developments have
created both opportunities and areas of serious concerns. This
conference aims to cover both technological as well as pedagogical
issues related to these developments. Main tracks have been identified.
However innovative contributions that do not easily fit into these areas
will also be considered as long as they are directly related to the
overall theme of the conference – cognition and exploratory learning in
the digital age.
* Format of the Conference
The conference will consist of invited talks and presentations for
discussion-oriented papers. The proceedings of the conference will be

CALL FOR PAPERS
Smart University Workshop @ CONTEXT 2013
(SmartUni 2013)
http://smartuni2013.workshop.hm
28/29 October 2013, Annecy, Haute-Savoie, France
*** Submission date: July 12, 2013 ***
The Smart University is the vision of the university as a platform,
which delivers foundational context data to drive the analysis and
improvement of the teaching & learning environment. The university as a
platform links the daily journey of lecturers and students and makes
the classroom experience explicit.
Sharing data and information and providing transparency are a basis for
innovation and academic growth. Linking personal experience to group
and university-wide experience helps develop an evidence-based view on
the organisation. This new view helps revealing strengths and
weaknesses of the organisation. Sensors can, for example, easily track
temperature, humidity, and noise level in and outside the classroom;
they can also help automatically determine actual class size. In
addition, mobile sensing solutions can enhance social contexts and
enable social media. By adopting Linked Data for the university as a
platform, links can be set between internal organisational and sensor
data and such external data sources as weather news or traffic feeds,
thereby connecting these sources into a single information space. The
use of a common data model enables the use of generic applications that
operate on that information space. Additionally the common data model
presents opportunities for deriving new insights from that information
space.
Low-cost motion detection and other sensors coupled with low-cost
credit-card sized computers such as the Raspberry Pi open up
opportunities to equip rooms with sensors. As the Raspberry Pi is a
full-fledged computing device running one cannot only acquire data, but
also process it in context. Additionally the sensor-hubs can form radio
frequency based mesh networks allowing for an infrastructure
independent communication of the acquired and pre-processed sensor
data. Smartphones with their sensors and processing power could collect
and provide additional information and context.
In this workshop we want to explore the possibilities of acquiring and
using contextual data. By letting students and teachers tell their
story with automatically generated environmental and social data
underpinning their story, the university as a platform can help
prospective students and lecturers make an informed decision about
their participation in the respective environment. For example,
collecting sensor data on noise levels and temperature can help backing
up quality complaints about co-located noisy classes or uncomfortable
room temperatures.
SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP
Several types of contributions are of interest to this workshop;
related to such areas as Context-aware Computing, Ambient Intelligence,
Data Mining, Technology-enhanced Teaching and Learning, Linked Data,
