CALL FOR PAPERS
The Twelfth International Symposium on
Intelligent Data Analysis (IDA 2013)
October 17-19, 2013, London, England
http://ida2013.org
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
FOCUS
When the IDA symposium series started in 1995, it focussed on the
problem of end-to-end intelligent support for data analysis. In 2010,
the IDA symposium re-focussed to support papers that go beyond
established technology and offer genuinely novel and "game-changing"
ideas, whilst not always being as fully realised as papers submitted
to other conferences.
IDA 2013 continues this approach and seeks "first look" papers that
might elsewhere be considered preliminary but contain potentially high
impact research. The IDA symposium, which is A-ranked according to
ERA, is open to all kinds of modelling and analysis methods,
irrespective of discipline. It is expected to be an interdisciplinary
meeting that seeks abstractions that cut across domains.
FRONTIER PRIZE
In line with the theme of IDA, the IDA Frontier Prize will be
awarded to the most visionary contribution. Submissions considered for
this award must present novel and surprising approaches to data
analysis. Last years winners can be found at http://ida2013.org. The
award consists of a plaque and a prize of 1000 Euros.
Strongly related to the Frontier Prize: attendants of IDA 2013 will
learn about a project that may remind you of science fiction movies
like 'Minority Report': the prediction of crimes in Los Angeles. See
'plenary talks' for more details.
PLENARY TALKS
Along with the regular presentations, the conference schedule will
include exciting plenary talks:
- David Hand (Imperial College) on "Data not dogma: big data,
open data, and the opportunities ahead" -- We have come a long way in
intelligent data analysis, but we are still only on the foothills.
- George Mohler (Santa Clara Univ) on "Predictive Policing:
Theory, Algorithms, and Practice" -- results on linking crime
prediction to the allocation of police resources in Los Angeles.
- Tijl de Bie (Bristol Univ) on "Subjective Interestingness in
exploratory data mining" -- a general mathematical framework for
formalizing interestingness in a subjective manner.
CALL FOR PAPERS
IDA solicits papers on all aspects of intelligent data analysis,
including papers on intelligent support for modelling and analyzing
data from complex, dynamical systems. IDA 2013 particularly encourages
papers about:
- Novel applications of IDA techniques to complex systems
- Novel modes of data acquisition and integration
- Robustness and scalability issues of intelligent data analysis
techniques
- Visualization and dissemination of results
Intelligent support for data analysis goes beyond the usual
algorithmic offerings in the literature. Papers about established
technology should offer novel ways to analyzing and/or modelling
complex systems to get accepted. The conventional reviewing process,
which favours incremental advances on established work, can discourage
the kinds of papers that IDA 2013 hopes to publish. The reviewing
process will address this issue explicitly: referees will evaluate
papers against the stated goals of the symposium, and any paper for
which at least one program chair advisor writes an informed,
thoughtful, positive review will be accepted irrespective of other
reviews.
The proceedings of IDA 2013 will appear in Springer's Lecture Notes in
Computer Science (LNCS) series. For more details on submission and
review process, see the IDA webpage at http://ida2013.org or contact
the program chairs. News and updates will be posted on the IDA Twitter
account @ida_news.

This is a reminder for the deadline in one week time from
today (April 22). As usual, virtual goods, digital rights
and media commerce can be addressed. But beyond that, this
time we ALSO invite papers about a trusted and adaptive Web:
top-down by policy-guided behavior and bottom-up by
self-organized movements.
Looking forward to your cintributions,
Rüdiger Grimm

Dear AIS members,
The workshop invites papers about two approaches to a trusted and adaptive Web: top-down by policy-guided behavior and bottom-up by self-organized movements. We invite especially for a debate about a top-down approach by policies versus a bottom-up approach by self-organization.
I would like to encourage you to contribute to the Virtual Goods and ODRL Workshop 2013.
This year it is held in the beautiful city of Koblenz, Germany, Sep 19-21.
The call for paper is available fromhttp://www.virtualgoods.org/2013/cfp.html
Paper submission date is April 22, so you have enough time to plan your paper.
Best greetings --- Rüdiger Grimm (Conference and PC Chair)

Call for Papers
IEEE Transactions on Services Computing
SPECIAL ISSUE “PROCESSES MEET BIG DATA”
Website: <http://bit.ly/TV0hlO> CFP in PDF: <http://bit.ly/XyMGxz>
======================================================================
*AIMS AND SCOPE*
The aim of process mining is to discover, monitor and improve business
processes by extracting knowledge from event logs readily available in
today’s information systems. When large-scale processes are executed,
e.g., on (cloud-based) service-oriented environments, process logs
increasingly exhibit all typical properties of “big data”: wide physical
distribution, diversity of formats, non-standard data models,
heterogeneous semantics. Computing metrics over such “big logs” also
requires to handle security and privacy concerns of many participants,
and even to deal with non-uniform trustworthiness of log entries. New
techniques are therefore required for designing, validating and
deploying process metrics in this scenario, as well as for effectively
dash-boarding the processes’ performance indicators.
This special issue of IEEE Transaction on Service-Oriented Computing is
intended to create an international forum for presenting innovative
developments of process monitoring and analysis over service-oriented
architectures, aimed at handling “big logs” and use them effectively for
discovery, dash-boarding and mining. The ultimate objective is to
identify the promising research avenues, report the main results and
promote the visibility and relevance of this new area.
The special issue is related to two Dagstuhl Seminars happening in 2013:
- Unleashing Operational Process Mining
<http://www.dagstuhl.de/en/program/calendar/semhp/?semnr=13481>
- Verifiably Secure Process-Aware Information Systems
<http://www.dagstuhl.de/en/programm/kalender/semhp/?semnr=13341>
*TOPICS COVERED*
- Process monitoring on SOA and clouds
- Validation and benchmarking of process monitoring
- Efficiently mining rare patterns in “big logs”
- Scalable techniques for distributed process monitoring
- Monitoring and analysis of cloud-based processes
- Architectures and data models for synthesizing and handling “big logs”
- Privacy-aware computation of process metrics
- Securing log data
- Log obfuscation and access control
- Practical systems and tools for big log analysis and log dashboards
- Applications combining process management and big data, e.g. audit
*IMPORTANT DATES*
Aug. 1, 2013: Submission deadline
Nov. 1, 2013: Notification of the first-round review
Jan. 10, 2014: Revised submission due
Mar. 1, 2014: Final notice of acceptance/reject
*SUBMISSION GUIDELINES*
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the instruction of the
"Information for Authors" section of the journal. Submissions should be
done through the IEEE TSC journal website:
<http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tsc-ieee/>. Submitted manuscripts will
be thoroughly reviewed using the standard procedure that is followed for
regular IEEE TSC submissions.

Sep 19, 2013
held in conjunction with the INFORMATIK 2013 conference
Koblenz, Germany
------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
------------------------------------------------------------------------
** Summary **
Online communities have become a part of many aspects of our everyday life.
For many people they form an essential channel for communicating with their
friends and private social network. Business oriented communities create a
rich eco-sphere of information and interaction with employees and customers
for industries. Frequently, new community platforms are launched on the
public web, for dedicated interest groups or in company intranets. The
number of members in these communities quickly grows to thousands or even
millions of users. The complex nature of such online communities, their
structure, the generated content as well as their social value motivate a
demand to manage these communities and to take care of their prosperity.
This demand calls for tools to analyse, understand and actively manage
online communities. In the context of larger communities even the role of a
community manager is called for.
In this workshop we intend to bring together researchers and practitioners
to discuss concrete scenarios and needs of community owners and
administrators on the one hand and solutions and tools for the analysis and
management of communities developed and proposed by researchers on the
other hand. To this end the workshop is composed of invited talks from
industries to demonstrate their settings and challenges as well as
technical program with scientific papers. In an additional setting of
break-out sessions we will bring together the two worlds to allow for
networking and cross fertilization effects.
** Topics of Interest **
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Data mining and analytics of online community data
(structures, content and interactions)
* Forecasting and simulation of the development of
an online community
* Policy making processes for online communities
* Success metrics for online communities
* Management tools for online communities
** Submissions **
For the MAMA workshop we seek full technical research papers presenting
novel work. Submitted papers should describe original work and present
significant results. We encourage authors to provide references to their
public data sets and other material used in their evaluation as well as
links to live demo systems or the source code of their tools.
Paper submissions must be formatted in the style of the Lecture Notes in
Informatics (LNI) and must not exceed 12 pages. Submissions which do not
comply with the LNI formatting or which exceed the page limit will be
rejected without review.
Submissions will be peer reviewed by at least three independent reviewers.
The review process will be double-blind, so please anonymize your
submission. Accepted papers have to be presented at the workshop. At least
one author must register for the INFORMATIK 2013 conference by June 30.
Submissions will be managed by the INFORMATIK 2013 submission system:
https://www.conftool.pro/informatik2013/
** Important Dates **
All deadlines end on the specified date at 23:59pm CEST
* Submission of papers: 22 April, 2013
* Notification of acceptance: 20 May, 2013
