The First International Workshop
TowArds the Model DrIveN Organization
(AMINO 2013 http://www.cs.colostate.edu/remodd/v1/amino2013)
29 Sept 2013
As part of the ACM/IEEE 16th International Conference on Model Driven
Engineering Languages and Systems (MODELS 2013)
Miami Florida USA
29 September 2013 through 4 October 2013

Overview
Modern organizations are faced with the very challenging problem of
rapidly responding to continual external business pressures in order to
sustain their competitiveness or to effectively perform mission-critical
services. Difficulties arise because the continual evolution of systems
and operational procedures that are performed in response to the
external pressures eventually leads to suboptimal configurations of the
systems and processes that drive the organization.
The management of continuous business change is complicated by the
current lack of effective mechanisms for rapidly responding to multiple
change drivers. The use of inadequate change management methods and
technologies introduces accidental complexities that significantly drive
up the cost, risk, and effort of making changes. These problems provide
opportunities for developing and applying organization modeling
approaches that seek to improve an organization's ability to effectively
evolve in response to changes in its business environment. Modeling an
organization to better support organizational evolution leads to what we
call a Model Driven Organization (MDO), where an MDO is an organization
in which models are the primary means for interacting with and evolving
the systems that drive an organization.
DEF: A Model Driven Organization uses models in the analysis, design,
simulation, delivery, operation, and maintenance of systems to address
its strategic, tactical and operational needs and its relation to the
wider environment.
An organization's Enterprise Systems (ES) support a wide-range of
business activities including planning, business intelligence,
operationalization, and reporting. ES are thus pivotal to a company's
competitiveness. Modelling technologies and approaches that address the
development, analysis, deployment and maintenance of ES have started to
emerge. Such technologies and approaches must support a much broader
collection of use-cases than traditional technologies for systems design
modeling. Current ES architectures do not adequately address the growing
demands for inter-organisational collaboration, flexibility and advanced
decision support in organizations.
Realizing the MDO vision will require research that cross-cuts many
areas, including research on enterprise architectures, business process.
and workflow modeling, system requirements and design modeling,
metamodeling, and models@runtime. This workshop seeks to bring together
researchers and practitioners from a variety of MDD research domains to
discuss the need, feasibility challenges and proposed realizations of
aspects of the MDO vision.
The full-day workshop aims to provide a forum to report and discuss
advances and current research questions in applying modelling
technologies to organizations in order to substantially improve their
flexibility and economics. The aim is to integrate various areas of
research such as: models at runtime, (meta-) modelling, modelling tools,
enterprise architecture, architecture modelling and business processes.
The workshop is a full-day and will include an invited speaker, paper
presentations and a discussion on a research roadmap that will
contribute to achieving Model Driven Organizations.

------
SCOPE
------
Several developments, such as the success of cloud-computing
show that not the ownership of IT resources but their
management is the foundation for sustainable competitive
advantage . According to Ross et al. , smart companies
define how they (will) do business (using an operating
model) and design the processes and infrastructure critical
to their current and future operations (using an enterprise
architecture).
Enterprise Engineering (EE) is the application of
engineering principles to the design of Enterprise
Architectures. It allows deriving the Enterprise
Architecture from the enterprise goals and strategy and
aligning it with the enterprise resources. Enterprise
architecture aims (i) to understand the interactions and all
kind of articulations between business and information
technology, (ii) to define how to align business components
and IT components, as well as business strategy and IT
strategy, and more particularly (iii) to develop and support
a common understanding and sharing of those purposes of
interest. Enterprise architecture is used to map the
enterprise goal and strategy to the enterprise's resources
(actors, assets, IT supports) and to take into account the
evolution of this mapping. It also provides documentation on
the assignment of enterprise resources to the enterprise
goals and strategy.
There are different paradigms for creating enterprise
architecture. The most important is to encapsulate the
functionalities of IT resources as services. By this means,
it is possible to clearly describe the contributions of IT
both in terms of functionality and quality and to define a
service-oriented enterprise architecture (SoEA). SoEA easily
integrates wide-spread technological approaches such as SOA
or emerging ones as cloud computing because they also use
service as structuring and governing paradigm. The
enterprise goals and strategies are mapped to a SoEA.
SoEA differentiates four layers of services. Thus, its scope
is much broader than the scope of SOA and also includes
services not accessible through software such as business
and infrastructure services. Services of different layers
may be interconnected in service (value) nets to provide
higher level services.
1. Business services are services, which directly support
business processes. Business processes can also be developed
dynamically (on-the-fly) using business services which are
available in a repository for a given business domain. An
example is call-centre services provided by an external
service provider.
2. Software services exist as two types: (i) human-oriented
applications, which are provided as Software as a Service,
(ii) application services which are part of so-called SOA
that are a popular paradigm for creating enterprise software.
3. Platform Services provide support of the development of
applications. They provide services for the execution of
applications, middleware stacks, web servers etc.
4. Infrastructure services are more hardware-flavoured
services, which are provided using computers. They may have
a human addressee but contain many infrastructure services
such as providing computing power, storage etc. They are an
important topic in management and practice collections such
as ITILV3 or standards such as ISO/IEC 20000 have gained a
high popularity.
------
GOALS
------
The goal of the workshop is to develop concepts and methods
to assist the engineering and the management of
service-oriented enterprise architectures and the software
systems supporting them. Especially four themes of research
shall be pursued:
1. Alignment of the enterprise goals and strategies with the
service-oriented enterprise architecture
2. Design of the service-oriented enterprise architecture
3. Mapping of service-oriented enterprise architecture to
enterprise resources

- How are business, software, platform and infrastructure
services defined?
- How are business services assigned to business processes?
- How do meta-services differentiate for business, software,
platform and infrastructure services?
- How are appropriate meta-services designed?
- Which phases do the lifecycle of business, software,
platform and infrastructure services contain?
- How can the fulfilment of non-functional requirements be
monitored?
- Which benchmarks and key performance indicators should be
applied to services?
- Which approaches exist for the continual improvement of
services?
3. Mapping of SoEA to enterprise resources
- Which resources are relevant for SoEA?
- How are services mapped to enterprise resources?
- Which approaches exist to map services to resources?
- Which information system architectures are adequate for
services?
- How can non-functional requirements be mapped to capacity
planning of resources?
4. SoEA and Cloud-Computing; influence of cloud, social and
big data
- How does SoEA interrelate with cloud computing?
- How are Enterprise Architectures designed using
cloud-services?
- How differ cloud-services from other kinds of services?
- How are Enterprise Architectures designed using
cloud-environments?
- Which meta-services are necessary for cloud-environments?
- How are service (value) nets -consisting of business,
software, platform and infrastructure services- created?
- How does social production influence SoEA?
- How can the creation of weak ties be supported in SoEA?
- How to support collective decision processes in SoEA?
- What are the information flows of Big Data integrated into
Enterprise Architecture?
- How does SoEA have to change in order to comply with the
new possibilities of Big Data (=volume, variety, velocity)?
-----------
SUBMISSION
-----------
Full papers describing mature results are sought. In
addition, short papers may be submitted to initiate
discussion around ideas or preliminary research results and
ongoing projects. The page limit for full papers is 10 pages
(minimum 8); short/position papers can be as long as 5
pages. The paper selection will be based upon the relevance
of a paper to the main topics, as well as upon its quality
and potential to generate relevant discussion. All
contributions will be peer reviewed based on the complete
version, being full or short. The review process for the two
types of papers will be different because of their distinct
purposes.
All papers published in the EDOC 2013 workshop proceedings
should be made in PDF format and comply with the [IEEE
Computer Society Conference Proceedings Format Guidelines]
(http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting). It is
strongly recommended that all papers are already in this
format when they are first submitted to workshops. This
gives precise picture of the paper length and avoids rework
if the paper is accepted. The proceedings will be published
by the IEEE Computer Society Press and be made accessible
through IEEE Xplore and the IEEE Computer Society Digital
Library.
Please submit your paper to Easychair at
*https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=soea4ee2013*.
At least one author of each accepted workshop paper will
have to register for the whole EDOC 2013 conference and
attend the workshop to present the paper. Analogously to
previous years, there will be no workshop-only registration
at EDOC 2013. If a paper is not presented in the workshop,
it will be removed from the workshop proceedings published
in the IEEE Xplore digital library.
The SoEA4EE workshop has been a full day workshop in
conjunction with EDOC'09 in New Zealand, EDOC'10 in Brasil,

Call for Papers
5th International Workshop on
Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISA’13)
- Concepts, Technologies, Applications -
September 5-6, 2013 <x-apple-data-detectors://0> — St. Gallen, Switzerland
!!! NEW !!!
There will be a doctoral consortium on September 4
<x-apple-data-detectors://1> - details will follow soon (seperate call).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Objectives
=====================
The strategic importance of enterprise modelling has been recognized by
an increasing number of
companies and public agencies. Enterprise modelling delivers the
‘blueprints’ for co-designing and
aligning business and enterprise information systems such that they
complement each other in an
optimal way. As example consider the support of business processes by
process-aware information
systems. Achieving such interplay requires a multi-perspective approach
taking organizational, eco-
nomic, and technical aspects into account. In a world of cloud, social
and big data, additional chal-
lenges for enterprise modelling and the design of information systems
architectures are introduced,
e.g., in respect to the design of data-driven processes or processes
enabling cross-enterprise collabo-
ration. To deal with these challenges, a close cooperation of
researchers from different disciplines
such as Information Systems, Business Informatics, and Computer Science
will be required.
Subject and Topics
=====================
EMISA 2013 is the fifth international workshop in a series that provides
a key forum for researchers
and practitioners in the fields of enterprise modeling and the design of
information system (IS) archi-
tectures. The workshop series emphasizes a holistic view on these
fields, fostering integrated ap-
proaches that address and relate business processes, business people and
information technology.
EMISA’13 will provide an international forum to explore new avenues in
enterprise modeling and the
design of IS architectures by combining the contributions of different
schools of Information Systems,
Business Informatics, and Computer Science.
The EMISA’13 workshop is open for a broad range of subjects and welcomes
scientific submissions as
well as experience papers on enterprise modeling and information systems
architectures.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- Enterprise modelling: languages, methods, tools
- Patterns for enterprise modelling and information systems architectures
- Model life cycle management and model evolution
- Model configuration and management of model variants
- Model quality: metrics, case studies, experiments
- Process modelling and process-aware information systems
- Collaborative enterprise modeling
- Model-driven architectures and model-driven IS development
- Component- and service-oriented software architectures
- Service engineering and evolution
- Service composition, orchestration and choreography
- Complex event processing and event-driven architectures
- Human aspects in enterprise modeling
- Modeling social information and innovation networks
- Private and public cloud computing infrastructures and their influence
on IS engineering
- Mobile enterprise services
- Enterprise 2.0, Web 2.0 and beyond
Organization
=====================
The workshop is jointly organized by the GI Special Interest Group on
Design Methods for Information
Systems (GI-SIG EMISA), the GI Special Interest Group on Modelling
Business Information Systems
(GI-SIG MobIS) and the Swiss Informatics Society (SI).
GI-SIG EMISA. The GI Special Interest Group on Design Methods for
Information Systems (SIG EMISA)
provides a forum for researchers from various disciplines who develop
and apply methods to support
the analysis and design of information systems.
GI-SIG MobIS. Conceptual Modelling is pivotal for analyzing and
designing information systems that
are in line with a company's long term strategy and that efficiently
support its core business process-
es. The Special Interest Group on Modelling Business Information Systems
(SIG MobIS) within the
German Informatics Society (GI) aims at providing a forum for exchanging
ideas and solutions on
modelling research within Information Systems both for researchers and
experts from industry.
