========================== Special Sessions ==========================
We are happy to announce that the following special sessions have been
approved for IDEAL'13:
Special Session on Adaptive and Learning Multi-agent Systems
Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) have grown into an interdisciplinary field
that includes various tracks and embraces many previously
distinctive research areas. More and more MASs are situated in open
and dynamic environments. The changes of environments that may be
unpredictable, uncontrollable and evolving typically affect the MAS.
Recently, adaptive MAS and MAS learning have become important sub-
areas in the literature of MAS. Particularly, both of them
investigate how multiple intelligent computational agents can work
together to achieve high- level goals by adjusting themselves and
obtaining more information. Various approaches have been applied to
improve the adaptive and learning ability of MAS. MAS are still
facing challenges of scaling to large numbers of entities and real-
world tasks.
This special session on adaptive and learning multi-agent systems
will provide a forum for researchers and practitioners interested in
adaptation and learning for multi-agent systems, and report their
latest findings.
For more information, see the special session web site
http://nical.ustc.edu.cn/ideal13/ss_alms.html.
Special Session on Big Data
Recent years have witnessed the unprecedented prevalence of "Big
Data". Big Data is transforming science, engineering, medicine,
healthcare, finance, business, and ultimately, the society itself.
This year IDEAL'2013 is pleased to introduce a Special Session on
Big Data. We wish to encourage researcher to submit high-quality
original papers (including significant work-in-progress) in any
aspect of Big Data with emphasis on 5Vs (Volume, Velocity, Variety,
Value and Veracity): big data science and foundations, big data
infrastructure, big data management, big data searching and mining,
big data privacy/security, and big data applications.
For more information, see the special session web site
http://web.utk.edu/~wzhou4/ideal13bigdata.htm.
Special Session on Soft-Computing Algorithms in Renewable Energy Problems
In the current context of world economic crisis, Renewable Energies
are of crucial importance towards a cleaner and more sustainable
future. Several factors have recently pushed Renewable Energies,
such as recent proofs of the direct connection between global
warming and CO2 emissions from fossil fuels, the intended reduction
of greenhouse gasses thanks to the Kyoto protocol or the growing of
the risk perception after the nuclear accident in Japan in December
2011, among others.
Nevertheless, the establishment and maximum exploitation of
Renewable Energy still need a lot of work and research effort. Many
of the problems that arise in Renewable Energy are so difficult,
that traditional mathematical methods do not obtain good results.
The design of new renewable energy facilities (wind farms, solar
plants, smart and micro-grids with renewable generation, or stand-
alone systems, etc.), the correct estimation of the renewable energy
resource (wind, radiation, reservoir levels) or the optimization of
technologies to obtain more productive systems (wind turbine design,
solar panels design), are just some examples of these hard problems
related to renewable energy.
In these problems, the use of Soft-Computing approaches has been
massive in the last few years, as powerful computational methods
that obtain good results, with moderate computational effort. This
Special Session is focused on Soft-Computing approaches in Renewable
Energy problems, in a broad sense. We consider all Renewable Energy
technologies where Soft-Computing approaches can be used to improve
the final systems. Real problems and case studies are particularly
welcome.
For more information, see the special session web site
http://nical.ustc.edu.cn/ideal13/ss_scarep.html.
Special Session on Swarm Intelligence and Data Mining (SIDM 2013)
Swarm intelligence is a recent trend in computational intelligence
and popular for the simplicity of its realizations, such as particle
swarm optimization (PSO), ant colony optimization (ACO), bee colony
optimization (BCO), and the like. As optimization techniques,
methods in swarm intelligence have been applied to many aspects in
the fields of data engineering and automated learning. For example,
as reported in the literature, PSO has been adopted to handle data
clustering, and ACO has been employed to solve the problem of
classification. On the other hand, advances in data mining, an
important section in data engineering and automated learning, also
assist optimization algorithm designers to develop better methods.
For instance, Apriori algorithm has been utilized for finding the
relationship among decision variables for optimizers. In order to
bridge the concepts and methodologies from the two ends, this
special session concentrates on the related topics of integrating
and utilizing algorithms in swarm intelligence and data mining. It
provides the opportunity for practitioners handling their data
mining issues by using swarm intelligence methodologies and for
researchers investigating swarm intelligence with data mining
approaches to share findings and look into future directions.
For more information, see the special session web site
http://sidm2013.nclab.tw (or under
http://nical.ustc.edu.cn/ideal13/ss_sidm.html).

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Twelfth International Symposium on
Intelligent Data Analysis (IDA 2013)
October 17-19, 2013, London, England
http://ida2013.org
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
FOCUS
When the IDA symposium series started in 1995, it focussed on the
problem of end-to-end intelligent support for data analysis. In 2010,
the IDA symposium re-focussed to support papers that go beyond
established technology and offer genuinely novel and "game-changing"
ideas, whilst not always being as fully realised as papers submitted
to other conferences.
IDA 2013 continues this approach and seeks "first look" papers that
might elsewhere be considered preliminary but contain potentially high
impact research. The IDA symposium, which is A-ranked according to
ERA, is open to all kinds of modelling and analysis methods,
irrespective of discipline. It is expected to be an interdisciplinary
meeting that seeks abstractions that cut across domains.
FRONTIER PRIZE
In line with the theme of IDA, the IDA Frontier Prize will be
awarded to the most visionary contribution. Submissions considered for
this award must present novel and surprising approaches to data
analysis. Last years winners can be found at http://ida2013.org. The
award consists of a plaque and a prize of 1000 Euros.
Strongly related to the Frontier Prize: attendants of IDA 2013 will
learn about a project that may remind you of science fiction movies
like 'Minority Report': the prediction of crimes in Los Angeles. See
'plenary talks' for more details.
PLENARY TALKS
Along with the regular presentations, the conference schedule will
include exciting plenary talks:
- David Hand (Imperial College) on "Data not dogma: big data,
open data, and the opportunities ahead" -- We have come a long way in
intelligent data analysis, but we are still only on the foothills.
- George Mohler (Santa Clara Univ) on "Predictive Policing:
Theory, Algorithms, and Practice" -- results on linking crime
prediction to the allocation of police resources in Los Angeles.
- Tijl de Bie (Bristol Univ) on "Subjective Interestingness in
exploratory data mining" -- a general mathematical framework for
formalizing interestingness in a subjective manner.
CALL FOR PAPERS
IDA solicits papers on all aspects of intelligent data analysis,
including papers on intelligent support for modelling and analyzing
data from complex, dynamical systems. IDA 2013 particularly encourages
papers about:
- Novel applications of IDA techniques to complex systems
- Novel modes of data acquisition and integration
- Robustness and scalability issues of intelligent data analysis
techniques
- Visualization and dissemination of results
Intelligent support for data analysis goes beyond the usual
algorithmic offerings in the literature. Papers about established
technology should offer novel ways to analyzing and/or modelling
complex systems to get accepted. The conventional reviewing process,
which favours incremental advances on established work, can discourage
the kinds of papers that IDA 2013 hopes to publish. The reviewing
process will address this issue explicitly: referees will evaluate
papers against the stated goals of the symposium, and any paper for
which at least one program chair advisor writes an informed,
thoughtful, positive review will be accepted irrespective of other
reviews.
The proceedings of IDA 2013 will appear in Springer's Lecture Notes in
Computer Science (LNCS) series. For more details on submission and
review process, see the IDA webpage at http://ida2013.org or contact
the program chairs. News and updates will be posted on the IDA Twitter
account @ida_news.

Betreff: [AISWorld] CFP: 14th IFIP Working Conference on Virtual
Enterprises - special session on Social Semantic Enterprise
Datum: Thu, 25 Apr 2013 09:06:07 +0100
Von: Maciej Dabrowski <maciej.dabrowski(a)deri.org>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
CALL FOR PAPERS
14th IFIP Working Conference on Virtual Enterprises
Dresden, Germany, 30 September - 02 October 2013
*Special Session on Building the Social Semantic Enterprise*
*Scope*
Organizations build and maintain many information systems to mange large
volume of content
published and consumed by knowledge-intensive workers. These systems are
interconnected both
internally, within an organization, and with systems external to the
organization, for example news feed
on the Web . Such environments involve many peers, which share
information within a large network
that is often distributed across various departments or sometimes even
geographically. Such
distributed environment brings new challenges related to efficient
synchronization and delivery of
information between interested peers (e.g. employees).
However, the contemporary organizational landscape follows a distributed
model in which various
peers can both publish and consume information. This shift requires new
approaches for delivery of
timely and relevant information in a close-to-real-time manner across
such peer-to-peer (P2P)
networks. Many initiatives focus on building P2P wikis that combine the
benets of mass collaboration
with the intrinsic qualities of peer-to-peer networks, such as
scalability or fault-tollerance. The main
challenge in building such collaborative tools is to ensure the
consistency of content replicated on
different peers. Although knowledge workers utilize many collaboration
tools (e.g blogs, wikis), crucial
information is often not managed effectively what affects efficiency and
generates additional spending.
To address this concern, organizations attempt to sustain information
exchange through utilization of
social networking tools both internally and externally.
Once the social network is woven and social connections are established,
it is important to gather and
reuse information available in this network. Thus, a distributed social
network requires efficient data
synchronization tools to allow for timely updates and retrieval of
relevant content.
In our session we shall present and discuss results of hands-on
applications and practices followed
and recent case studies from the health, the finance, the electronics
and the publishing / media
industries, looking critically into their commonalities and asking for
challenges related to a wide gamut
of technical- and human-related aspects such as:
Transition from enterprise data silos to semantically linked enterprise
networks
Valorisation of corporate semantic data
Spinning the social semantic web
Sociology theories for semantic social networks
