*The 6th International Conference on PErvasive Technologies
Related to Assistive Environments -- PETRA 2013, Rhodes,
Greece, May 29 -- 31, 2013*
*http://www.petrae.org/*
**
*Workshop on Interactive Multimedia Technologies to Support
Vulnerable People*
**
*Theme and Goals*
The VERVE workshop seeks to generate dialogue and debate on
the use of interactive multimedia technology to support
vulnerable people in everyday environments. The workshop
builds on the growing use of serious games in many aspects
of modern life such as defence and education, and in
particular its increasing use in healthcare settings. The
intent of such technology is to improve the quality of life
for disadvantaged groups including older people and those
with neurological disorders, taking into account cognitive,
emotional, and behavioural aspects of the person. Of
particular interest is the use of serious games to help in
everyday activities outside the home, for example when
shopping or being in crowded situations. We are also
interested in understanding the use of interactive
multimedia technology to help those at risk of social
exclusion, as well as their careers, families, health
professionals and relevant support organisations, and to
solicit ideas and feedback.
*Topics of Interest*
We invite papers about research in and application of
interactive multimedia technologies that provide support to
elderly or vulnerable people. Such tools could help
sufferers from Parkinson's disease, or those suffering from
apathy related to cognitive decline and behavioural
disturbances, for example due to Alzheimer's disease.
Although focusing on these areas initially, the workshop
encourages submissions on the use of interactive multimedia
technologies in a much wider range of healthcare settings.
Topics addressed include:
- Technology acceptance by the elderly and those
suffering from anxiety-related disorder
- Gaming technology as a therapeutic capability
- The use of virtual agents as assistants in health
care and therapy
- The use of games to provide support and information
to carers and family members
- Human computer confluences applied to health
- Technologies linked to pervasive computing, health
science and human neuroscience
- Methods for measuring the effects and benefits of
serious games in healthcare settings
- Use of game technology to develop physical and
cognitive improvement in patients
- The use of gaming technology as a means of social
inclusion for vulnerable adults
*Important Dates*
*Paper Submission Deadline: March 01, 2013*

In the great digital era, we are witnessing many rapid
scientific and technological developments in human-centred,
seamless computing environments, interfaces, devices, and
systems with applications ranging from business and communication
to entertainment and learning. These developments are collectively
best characterized as Active Media Technology (AMT), a new area
of intelligent information technology and computer science that
emphasizes the proactive, seamless roles of interfaces and systems
as well as new media in all aspects of digital life. An AMT based
system offers services to enable the rapid design, implementation
and support of customized solutions.
AMT'13 aims at providing a leading international forum to bring
together researchers and practitioners from diverse fields, to
increase the cross-fertilization of ideas and explore the fundamental
roles, interactions as well as practical impacts of intelligent
information technology and computer science on the next generation of
computing environments, systems and media. AMT will feature
high-quality, original research papers in all theoretical, technical,
practical, and interdisciplinary studies that make up the field of
active media technology.
The 1st International Conference on Active Media Technology (AM'01)

================================================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
19th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Chicago, Illinois, August 15-17, 2013 (http://amcis2013.aisnet.org/)
Track: Enterprise systems (SIGEntSys)
Minitrack: Very Large Business Applications (VLBA) – Issues and Answers
================================================================
DESCRIPTION
Emerging technologies like mash-ups, web 2.0 and cloud computing on
the one side and the increasing agility of business models on the
other side raises the question how Enterprise Systems will look like
in the future. Therefore, we see a new class of Enterprise Systems
which address the need for more agility in the entire value chain with
a loosely coupled system of distinct elements, orchestrated to a
highly integrated, complex Information System (Very Large Business
Applications, VLBA).
VLBA act as enabler for intra- and interorganisational business
processes and play a significant role in the development of new
business models. This Mini-Track aims at studying, grounding, and
finally exploiting the potential of VLBA to solve integration and
coordination problems in distributed business processes as a key
enabler of flexible boundaryless information systems.
Key research questions are:
- how to represent VLBA in service-based information systems by
employing and adapting constructs, models, and methods of different
information systems technology stacks,
- how to coordinate software services by employing and adapting
approaches for service discovery and composition,
- how to negotiate and agree upon the delivery of software-based
services (SLA),
- how to control the delivery of software-based services in VLBA by
measuring efficiency and effectiveness?
SUGGESTED TOPICS
Topics relevant for this mini-track include, but are not limited to,
the following:
- Cloud Computing and VLBA
- VLBA Operations Management
- Strategic, tactic and operative Systems Landscape Engineering
- VLBA Business Simulations
- VLBA Business Models
- Analytical Business Process Engineering for VLBA
- VLBA and Knowledge Management
- VLBA security issues
- Innovative VLBA Applications
We invite contributions from different disciplines including
information systems, information management, computer and management
science to properly cover all facets of Very Large Business
Applications. We encourage papers applying quantitative and
qualitative, empirical and theoretical research methodologies such as
case studies, action research, surveys, experiments, and design
science.

Utilization of mobile and embedded devices, and thus their induced energy
consumption, is constantly increasing. Reducing the energy consumption of
such devices will not only improve the carbon footprint of contemporary
mobile IT usage, but will also extend the device lifetime, improve user
acceptance and reduce operational costs.
Next to to serious and ongoing efforts in hardware design and on
operating system level,
software engineering techniques will also contribute to optimize energy
consumption by
improving software design and software quality. The EASED@BIUS workshop,
which
follows up the Workshop on Developing Energy Aware Software Systems
(EEbS 2012)
(http://www.uni-weimar.de/cms/medien/mobile-media/eebs-2012.html), held at
the annual GI Conference in September 2012, provides a broad forum for
researchers
and practitioners to discuss ongoing work, latest results and common
topics of
interest regarding the improvement of software induced energy consumption.
Intensive discussions at the first workshop identified a major challenge
in optimizing
energy efficiency, which is to precisely measure energy consumption of
software,
regarding user behavior. Thus, the follow workshop EASED@BUIS will focus
on the following topics:
- approaches and techniques to estimate or measure the energy consumption
of software components,
- approaches to define standardized application scenarios on mobile
devices to provide repeatable measurement of energy consumption in
concrete
application settings,
- approaches to model the energy consumption of software components, and
- experiences on measuring and improving the energy consumption of
software
components.
Well elaborated and standardized measurement means will provide an
important
foundation to detecting sources of wasting energy caused by software
systems
and will enable validation means to verify energy savings by software
improvements.
EASED@BUIS will be organized as a one day discussion-intensive workshop
to provoke
intensive collaborations among the participants. It is intended to
initiate collaborative
works on standardizing (static and dynamic) measuring techniques for energy
consumption.
To further stimulate these discussions, authors are invited to submit
position papers
on the workshop´s topics. Accepted papers will be presented at the
workshop and will
be published in Softwaretechnik-Trends
(http://pi.informatik.uni-siegen.de/stt/).

Review Policy
IEEE Policy and professional ethics require that referees treat the contents of papers under
review as privileged information not to be disclosed to others before publication. It is
expected that no one with access to a paper under review will make any inappropriate use of
the special knowledge, which that access provides. Contents of abstracts submitted to
conference program committees should be regarded as privileged as well, and handled in the
same manner. The Conference Publications Chair shall ensure that referees adhere to this
practice.
Organizers of IEEE conferences are expected to provide an appropriate forum for the oral
presentation and discussion of all accepted papers. An author, in offering a paper for
presentation at an IEEE conference, or accepting an invitation to present a paper, is
expected to be present at the meeting to deliver the paper. In the event that circumstances
unknown at the time of submission of a paper preclude its presentation by an author, the
program chair should be informed on time, and appropriate substitute arrangements should be
made. In some cases it may help reduce no-shows for the Conference to require advance
registration together with the submission of the final manuscript.

About the Technical Committee on Services Computing
Founded in 2003, IEEE Computer Society's Technical Committee on Services Computing (TC-SVC)
is a multidisciplinary group whose purpose is to advance and coordinate work in the field of
Services Computing carried out throughout the IEEE in scientific, engineering, standard,
literary and educational areas.
Services Computing has become a cross-discipline that covers the science and technology of
bridging the gap between Business Services and IT Services. The underneath breaking technology
suite includes Web services and service-oriented architecture (SOA), cloud computing, business
consulting methodology and utilities, business process modeling, transformation and integration.
This scope of Services Computing covers the whole lifecycle of services innovation research
that includes business componentization, services modeling, services creation, services
realization, services annotation, services deployment, services discovery, services composition,
services delivery, service-to-service collaboration, services monitoring, services optimization,
as well as services management. The goal of Services Computing is to enable IT services and
computing technology to perform business services more efficiently and effectively.
