CALL FOR PAPERS
==========================================================
Fourth International Workshop (SMR2):
Service Matchmaking and Resource Retrieval in the Semantic Web
Co-located with the 9th International Semantic Web
Conference (ISWC 2010)
November 8, 2010; Shanghai, China
http://www.dfki.de/~klusch/smr2-10/
<http://www.dfki.de/%7Eklusch/smr2-10/>
==========================================================
Aims & Scope:
One central challenge of service coordination in the
Semantic Web is how to best relate requests for services
with the services that are available.
This functionality is usually provided by semantic service
matchmaking capabilities (which may themselves be deployed
as services by middle agents) that select the services that
are closest to a requested service on the basis of a
declarative characterization of the capabilities of both
service requested and services provided.
More generally, resource retrieval extends the notion of
service matchmaking to the process of discovering any kind
of Web resources (ranging from services, data, information,
knowledge to networked physical objects, persons and
organizations) for given application settings and purposes.
It is at the core of several scenarios in the Semantic Web
area, spanning from Web services, Grid computing, and
Peer-to-Peer computing, to applications such as e-commerce,
human resource management, and social networking applications.
The primary objective of this workshop is to bring together
academic and industry researchers and industry practitioners
who tackle semantic service matchmaking and discovery from
various points of view. In particular, we also intend to
build bridges to the software engineering and model-driven
development communities in order to share requirements,
technologies, and experiences that might be helpful in
advancing the state of the art in semantic service
matchmaking and resource retrieval.
Going to Practice: The 4th International Semantic Service
Selection (S3) Contest
The SMR2 workshop also integrates the fourth edition of the
open international contest on semantic service selection
(S3) which is in collaboration with the SEALS SWS tool
evaluation campaign. The S3 contest series provides the
means and a forum for evaluating the retrieval performance
of Semantic Web service matchmakers in terms of recall,
precision, F1, response time etc., over given test
collections based on the prominent semantic service formats
such as OWL-S, WSML and the standard SA-WSDL.
Publication:
The proceedings of SMR2 will be available as a CEUR volume
online.
In addition, it is planned to publish selected and invited
papers of the
SMR2 workshop in a special issue of the international
Semantic Web journal (http://www.semantic-web-journal.net/).
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
. Semantic resource and service matchmaking and brokering .
Semantic retrieval of resources and services in P2P, Grid
networks and Cloud Computing . Model-driven semantic service
engineering and matchmaking . Privacy-preserving and trusted
semantic service discovery . Composition planning of
semantic services and workflows . Formal description and
handling of semantic services, queries, and resources .
Prototypes and tools for semantic services engineering,
discovery and composition . Negotiation of semantic services
and resources . Interleaving of discovery, composition, and
negotiation of semantic services and resources . Practical
applications of semantic services . Evaluation of
implemented semantic service retrieval tools . Middleware
solutions for semantic service search and composition
Submissions:
Contributions to the workshop can be made as technical
papers, addressing different issues of service / resource
matching and retrieval.
The papers written in English should be not longer than 16
pages using the LNCS Style:

Dear G. Neumann:
We invite you submit a paper/abstract to The 2nd International Conference on Society and Information Technologies: ICSIT 2011 (www.2011iiisconferences.org/ICSIT) and/or to The 2nd International Conference on Education, Training, and Informatics: ICETI 2011 (www.2011iiisconferences.org/ICETI) (March 27th - 30th, 2011 - Orlando, Florida, USA)
If you have any colleagues who might be interested in making a submission to these collocated conferences, please feel free to forward this e-mail to them.
Below are the deadlines for ICSIT/ICETI 2011:
Papers/Abstracts Submission and Invited Session Proposals: September 8th, 2010
Authors Notifications: November 15th, 2010
Camera-ready, full papers: December 6th, 2010
Technical keynote speakers will be selected from early submissions because this selection requires an additional evaluation according to the quality of the paper, assessed by its reviewers, the authors' CV and the paper's topic.
All Submitted papers/abstracts will go through three reviewing processes: (1) double-blind (at least three reviewers), (2) non-blind, and (3) participative peer reviews. These three kinds of review will support the selection process of those papers/abstracts that will be accepted for their presentation at the conference, as well as those to be selected for their publication in JSCI Journal.
Pre-Conference and Post-conference Virtual sessions (via electronic forums) will be held for each session included in the conference program, so that sessions papers can be read before the conference, and authors presenting at the same session can interact during one week before and after the conference. Authors can also participate in peer-to-peer reviewing in virtual sessions.
Submissions for Face-to-Face or for Virtual Participation are both accepted. Both kinds of submissions will have the same reviewing process and the accepted papers will be included in the same proceedings.
Authors of accepted papers who registered in the conference can have access to the evaluations and possible feedback provided by the reviewers who recommended the acceptance of their papers/abstracts, so they can accordingly improve the final version of their papers. Non-registered authors will not have access to the reviews of their respective submissions.
Registration fees of an effective invited session organizer will be waived according to the policy described in the web page (click on 'Invited Session', then on 'Benefits for the Organizers of Invited Sessions'), where you can get information about the ten benefits for an invited session organizer. For Invited Sessions Proposals, please visit the conference web site, or directly to http://www.2011iiisconferences.org/icsit/organizer.asp

Subject: [computational.science] Reminder: Call for Chapter
Proposals - Aug. 15 Due Date Approaching
Date: Tue, 10 Aug 2010 22:34:10 -0400
From: George Yee <gmyee(a)sce.carleton.ca>
Organization: "ICCSA"
To: Computational Science Mailing List
<computational.science(a)lists.iccsa.org>
Dear Colleague,
Greetings! I would like to invite you to submit a chapter proposal to a new book I am editing, entitled "Privacy Protection Measures and Technologies in Business Organizations: Aspects and Standards", assuming this topic lies within your work area. The due date for the proposal is August 15, 2010. If you need more time, just let me know. For more details, please see the Call for Chapter Proposals at:
http://www.igi-global.com/AuthorsEditors/AuthorEditorResources/CallForBookC…
Here are some excerpts from the above site:
Introduction
The recent rapid growth of the Internet, together with increases in computerization, has been accompanied by soaring deployments of client-related business applications. Since business ultimately depends on the consumption of people, this has led to more and more consumer personal information in the possession of business organizations. This in turn has led to concerns over potential violations of consumer privacy. In response, various governmental jurisdictions have enacted privacy legislation to protect the privacy of consumers. However, legislation alone is not enough. Protective foolproof measures must be in place to guard against potential invasions of privacy. For example, business communication and collaboration include content sharing and email. How can these be safeguarded against the leakage of consumer personal information? As another example, internal business systems comprise workflows that handle and process client personal information. What measures are needed to avoid inadvertently and illegally revealing this information? What standards can be followed to reduce this risk?
Objective of the Book
This book will aim to deliver a coherent collection of chapters that provide significant new insights from five areas of investigation, as follows: 1) the current legal framework concerning the protection of consumer privacy in business organizations, 2) the nature and identification of consumer private information, 3) the measures and standards that can be applied and integrated within business organizations to protect consumer privacy, 4) the integration of business structures and workflows with privacy protection measures, and 5) the impacts of applying and integrating privacy protection measures on business operational and financial performance. Although theoretical and conceptual studies are equally welcome, the likely practical implications of your research should be emphasized in all contributions.
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before August 15, 2010 (let me know if you need more time), a 2-3 page chapter proposal (outline) clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Please email submissions (Word document) to: gmyee(a)sce.carleton.ca. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by September 1, 2010 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected by November 30, 2010. All submitted chapters will be reviewed between authors on a double-blind review basis.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to receiving your proposal.
Sincerely,
George

2010 in Putrajaya, Malaysia (November 29 - December 3) as a special
program item. The ViWo 2010 provides an interdisciplinary forum for
international scientists and practitioners to discuss various aspects of
learning and training in virtual worlds.
The 18th International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE 2010)

Background
========
Our society of the 21st century makes great demands on its members
caused by rapid developing and ever-changing political, social,
economical and technological situations. Consequently, it is expected
that members of the society keep pace with these mutable situations,
adapt their skills and expertise. As a result, modern instructional
design, learning goals and processes as well as appropriate learning
environments must support the development of the aforementioned skills
and expertises. Consequently, educational approaches have changed
dramatically over time from less formal schooling in the agrarian
society to remedial repetitive learning in the industrialization age to
learning with an understanding in today's knowledge society. Based on
that, different modern educational strategies have been developed which
includes aspects such as self-directed learning, collaborative learning,
experiential-based learning and actively participating. Educational
approaches have also been influenced by technology but have also
increasingly applied technology over the last decades, such as motion
pictures, radio, television, computers and other emerging information
and communication technologies (ICT).
Last year's hype surrounding the virtual world "Second Life" has also
generated significant interest in the education community. Although
virtual worlds have been an active research topic for a long time,
technology was not ready for complex application scenarios since recent
years. New interesting and powerful platforms and tools, such as Second
Life, Active Worlds, Multiverse, Open Croquet, OpenSim and Sun's 3D
Wonderland, have been emerged applicable to complement or even replace
other knowledge transfer and learning settings. Modern virtual worlds
are seen from an optimistic viewpoint as a disruptive and transformative
technology. However, it still remains unclear to some extent where the
real benefits and limitations of using virtual worlds as knowledge
transfer and learning environments are when compared to more traditional
methods. In order to avoid the same pitfalls of past e-learning
solutions by just applying traditional learning approaches to a new
technology, this special track is indented to offer a multidisciplinary
platform which brings together international researchers from different
organizations in order to share their experience with this technology.
The special track will bring together international researchers as well
as practitioners from different organisations who will have plenty of
time for networking and real-world knowledge sharing.
We invite submissions of papers in the categories research, development,
evaluation and best practices that deal with virtual worlds for
academic, organizational, and life-long learning issues including, but
not limited to:
. Technological approaches, their limitations and how to overcome them
. Virtual worlds and mobile learning
. Virtual learning space design and architecture
. Modern learning settings
. Didactic and cognitive aspects
. New learning and teaching activities
. Interaction and behavior patterns
. Distance and blended learning
