CALL FOR PAPERS: Decision Support Systems
Special Issue On "Data, Information and Analytics as Services"
Purpose. Service oriented thinking is one of the fastest growing
paradigms in today's economy. Most of the organizations have already
built (or in a process of building) decision support systems that
support agile data, information and analytics capabilities as services.
The concept of data and information-as-services basically advocates the
view that - with the emergence of service-oriented business processes,
architecture and infrastructure which includes standardized processes
for accessing data "where it lives" - the actual platform on which the
data resides doesn't matter. Data can reside in a local computer or a
server at a server farm in a cloud computing environment. With
data-as-a-service, any business process can access data wherever it
resides. Data and information as-a-service began with the notion that
data quality could happen in a centralized place, cleansing and
enriching data and offering it to different systems, applications or
users. Also, the concept of analytics-as-a-service - by some referred to
as Agile Analytics - is turning utility computing and virtualization
into a service model for analytics.
This call for papers encourages research that will help us to achieve
multiple objectives in the context of the multiple disciplines. First,
we need to understand the impacts of service orientation on data,
information and analytics. Second, we need to investigate how data,
information and analytic services different from traditional data
access, manipulation and distribution frameworks. Third, we wish to
provide a basis for evaluating relevant technical and managerial
approaches to service-oriented data, information and analytics. We also
wish to encourage the identification of appropriate governance
mechanisms. The new design and management ideas related to these
services should overcome current limitations and support enhanced
performance in practice.
Editors. The review process for submitted papers to DSS will be handled
in an expedited manner by:
* Dursun Delen, Oklahoma State University, dursun.delen(a)okstate.edu
(special issue co-editor)
* Haluk Demirkan, Arizona State University, haluk.demirkan(a)asu.edu
(special issue co-editor)
Topics. This call for papers seeks foundation-building research on
service oriented data, information and analytics that explores:
technical, managerial, strategic, social, and public policy challenges;
organizational, economic and social issues; and innovative design
science applications in the decision support domains to deliver
services. We seek high-quality, original contributions on the following
topics:
* Principles, theories, concepts and approaches for service oriented
data, information and analytics
* Methods, tools, and techniques for developing the underlying
functional aspects of data, information and analytics as services
* Developing user functionalities and interfaces with services
* Design issues, challenges and opportunities in agile analytics
* Decision models and decision support systems for service-related
management and operations
* Economics, measurements, impacts of this paradigm on individuals,
organizations and societies
* Emerging technologies and techniques, governance mechanisms,
co-production methodologies
* Intra- and inter-service engineering, integration and management
* Collaborative service management in B2B and B2C e-commerce, service
negotiation, operations, and management
* Services integration, security, privacy and trust; risk management
practices in services-oriented settings
* Quality and cost, and the economics of technology services
* Service-oriented enterprise industry standards and solution stacks
* Self-service technologies and management
* Composite data, information and analytics to support service mashups
* Value co-creation with data, information, analytics and decision
services

Call for Papers
HICSS-44 KM in a Changing Society: Using Knowledge to Impact Societies
minitrack
2011 Conference - January 4-7, 2011.
The Grand Hyatt Hyatt Spa & Resort,
Koloa, Kauai, Hawai'i
Knowledge management (KM) is beginning to have an impact on society. For
example, we may actually see KM leading to less knowledge worker
offshore outsourcing (although offshore sourcing for knowledge needs may
increase) as it becomes difficult for organizations to maintain two or
more classes of knowledge workers and wages and position will tend to
equalize over national boundaries. Quality of life concerns will guide
knowledge workers to where they want to live and work and this will also
support equalization of living standards and critical infrastructure.
This will be disruptive to the organization as traditional management
and governance structures will be stressed to handle distributed
knowledge in a distributed organization. Workers may rethink traditional
careers as they may work in organizations where they never physically
meet their boss or colleagues and will be more loyal to local
organizations and local social structures. This will likely increase
transience, a trend we’re observing now in many organizations, and
increased transience will likely lead to increased intellectual property
and knowledge ownership issues.
Similarly, societal changes have an impact on KM. If hiring practices
change as organizations hire and retain staff based on the knowledge
they possess, this may actually lead to a higher valuation of older,
experienced workers. This will tend to force knowledge workers into
being lifelong learners if they are not already. Unfortunately, with the
Baby Boomers expected to retire now and in the near future,
organizations are faced with the problems of retaining the knowledge and
expertise of this population. With Generation X and Y individuals
prototypically having “spiral” or “transitory” career paths, this also
impacts KM practices. With reduced birthrates in the developed
countries, the increased immigration impacts KM in terms of
under-utilization or undervaluing the immigrant population’s knowledge.
The increased rate of use of contingent (or non-standard) workers (e.g.,
contract employees, temporary employees, seasonal or non-permanent
employees) also impacts the type of knowledge entering the organization
and KM practices.
This mini-track seeks papers that investigate these impacts and explore
how organizations are using KM to help meet these impacts on society and
how these societal trends impact organizations. Possible topics include,
but are not limited to:
* Using KM to increase citizen participation in government and society;
* Using KM to create citizen driven change in society or government;
* Using knowledge to change societies;
* Creating society wide Knowledge Systems;
* Improving living standards through KM and knowledge us;
* Knowledge loss risk management;
* Impact of immigration and cultural issues on KM initiatives ;
* Using KM to mitigate impacts of retirement and worker transience;
* Measuring risk of knowledge loss due to retiring or transient
employees;
* Developing knowledge capture processes and technologies for
retiring and transient workers;
* KM issues with retiring and transient workers and their impact on
organizational governance and management processes;
* Developing KM Systems to mitigate risks of retiring, transient,
and immigrating workers; and
* Valuation and knowledge utilization processes for (potential or
actual) immigrant knowledge workers.

Motivation
**********
Standard Information Systems for learning purposes have matured, technology
is stable and masses of information can be made available to the learner.
Most educational institutions are already using such learning systems either
in a blended or purely online form for delivering parts of courses or fully
online courses to their students.
Besides such formal learning systems, we are surrounded by multimodal
interfaces which enable the inclusion of all human senses, and mobile,
ubiquitous and pervasive technology is available everywhere and at all time.
Current research deals with using such new technologies for the purpose of
learning, integrating them in current learning systems, and building
learning environments where students are provided with more authentic
learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. Furthermore,
new technologies allow students to interact with the learning environment in
more natural and intuitive ways, using multimodal and smart interfaces from
various types of devices ranging from mobile phones to smart boards.
The focus of this special workshop is on the provision of enhanced user
experience (UX), including making information more useful, usable and
enjoyable. This is a challenge for interdisciplinary research on the
intersection of Psychology and Computer Science.
This workshop shall bring together researchers and practitioners from
Psychology and Computer Science, bridging classic Human-Computer Interaction

GameSec 2010, the inaugural Conference on Decision and Game Theory for
Security
will take place on the campus of Technical University Berlin, Germany, on
November 22-23, 2010.
Securing complex and networked systems and managing associated risks become
increasingly important as they play an indispensible role in modern life
at the
turn of the information age. Concurrently, security of ubiquitous
communication,
data, and computing pose novel research challenges. Security is a
multi-faceted
problem due to the complexity of underlying hardware, software, and network
inter- dependencies as well as human and social factors. It involves
decision
making in multiple levels and multiple time scales, given the limited
resources
available to both malicious attackers and administrators defending networked
systems.
GameSec conference aims to bring together researchers who aim to establish a
theoretical foundation for making resource allocation decisions that balance
available capabilities and perceived security risks in a principled
manner. The
conference focuses analytical models based on game, information,
communication,
optimization, decision, and control theories that are applied to diverse
security topics. At the same time, the connection between theoretical
models and
real world security problems are emphasized to establish the important
feedback
loop between theory and practice. Observing the scarcity of venues for
researchers who try to develop a deeper theoretical understanding of the
underlying incentive and resource allocation issues in security, we
believe that
GameSec will fill an important void and serve as a distinguished forum of
highest standards for years to come.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Security games
* Security and risk management
* Mechanism design and incentives
* Decentralized security algorithms
* Security of networked systems
* Security of Web-based services
* Security of social networks
* Intrusion and anomaly detection
* Resource allocation for security
* Optimized response to malware
* Identity management
* Privacy and security
* Reputation and trust
* Information security and watermarking
* Physical layer security in wireless networks
* Information theoretic aspects of security
* Adversarial machine learning
* Distributed learning for security
* Cross-layer security
* Usability and security
* Human behavior and security
* Dynamic control of security systems
* Organizational aspects of risk management
* Cooperation and competition in security
* and more...
***
Submission instructions will be available on the conference website.
Prospective
authors are encouraged to submit a PDF version of their full papers in the
announced format and in a font no smaller than 10-points. The initial
submissions
are limited to 12 single-column pages to decrease the workload of volunteer
reviewers. The camera-ready version of accepted papers is limited to 20
single-column pages. The conference language is English.
The conference proceedings will be published by Springer in Lecture Notes
in Computer Science (LNCS). The proceedings will also be made available
online
by Springer in full-text electronic form via Springerlink.
