Betreff: [AISWorld] Call for papers - The 34th Information Systems
Research Seminar in Scandinavia, IRIS 2011 - "ICT of Culture – Culture
of ICT"
Datum: Wed, 22 Dec 2010 08:18:09 +0000
Von: <Timo.Lainema(a)tse.fi>

Call for papers - *The 34th Information Systems Research Seminar in
Scandinavia – IRIS 2011 *
August 16th – 19th, 2011, Turku Finland
*/ICT of Culture – Culture of ICT /*
(In conjunction with the Second Scandinavian Conference on Information
Systems, SCIS 2010, http://2011.scandinavian-iris.org/)
As the oldest IS seminar in the world dating back to 1978 IRIS provides
a well-established community where you can build and sustain your Nordic
IS network. The seminar offers an informal atmosphere with a number of
different activities such as workshops and keynote speeches. IRIS also
offers thorough feedback on your work and deep insight into other
researchers’ work through working groups where papers are presented and
discussed. In addition, authors who submit a paper also act as reviewers
in the review process. The premise in the IRIS series is, that all
papers in a work group have been read by all participants in that
working group, thus, using minimal time in the presentation of the
papers, and maximal time in discussing the papers.
In order to attract more seniors the Second Scandinavian Conference on
Information Systems (SCIS) is held in conjunction with IRIS. The two
conferences are seen as a full package to stimulate the Nordic IS
research community, and are held together, SCIS during the mornings, and
IRIS during the afternoons. We thus strongly encourage senior
researchers and junior researchers to take part in the full programme of
the conferences.
IRIS is famous for its unreserved and egalitarian (= Nordic) atmosphere
where it is easy to present and discuss your research. The structure of
the conference is ideal for networking and collaboration – a good
evidence of this is that many researchers meet in IRIS every year, and
also that during the week the participants work on “unofficial” joint
projects. The conference is not open only for researchers from the
Nordic countries, we also welcome people from other parts of the world,
bringing along and delivering views other than the Nordic ones into the
discussion.
*Theme *
During the 21st century our society, culture and personal lives will be
deeply influenced by advances in information and communication
technology. Social media and social virtual worlds have already started
transforming individuals from passive information consumers to active
creators and distributors of information, knowledge and arts. We can
already play with the idea that our technological capability will enable
us to digitize everything that anyone has ever said and store it in
Internet servers.
Issues of interest to our conference are among others:
/How does all this affect our society and culture? /
/How should the media industry and other companies capitalize on the new
empowered consumer? /
/How does this transformation change our concept of the welfare society? /
/What is the role of customer and partner communities? /
/How do we integrate information systems to face this very fast moving
new “culture of ICT”? /
/How do we foster inter-organisational information systems evolution and
improved supply of products and services? /
/Or is it just a new fad which will find its way to a normal evolution
of ICT use, design and management? /
This transformation will also affect our own IS profession. IT is not
created in a vacuum or designed somewhere outside our society. The new
applications of ICT are increasingly a product of the surrounding
society and culture. Furthermore, the cultural context where the IS
development takes place is becoming increasingly diverse. Implementation
of applications and practices of their use takes place in groups that
involve members from different national, organizational, and
professional sub-cultures. The development is increasingly driven by
professionals from other fields and even by consumers. How can we manage
and take advantage of this cultural diversity in our development
teams? What are the challenges that different cultural backgrounds
create in the teams that plan, design and implement new applications?

Subject: CALL FOR POSITION PAPERS PECCS 2011 - Int'l Conf.
on Pervasive and Embedded Computing and Communication Systems
Date: Tue, 21 Dec 2010 14:13:34 -0500
From: PECCS Secretariat <postmaster13(a)303media.net>
Reply-To: peccs.secretariat(a)insticc.org
<peccs.secretariat(a)insticc.org>
To: gustaf.neumann(a)wu-wien.ac.at
Dear Gustaf Neumann,
Let me kindly inform you that the Int'l Conf. on Pervasive and Embedded Computing and Communication Systems (PECCS - http://www.peccs.org/) is welcoming the submission of position papers (deadline set for next January 3). PECCS will be held next year in Algarve, Portugal, on March 5-7.
A position paper presents an arguable opinion about an issue. The goal of a position paper is to convince the audience that your opinion is valid and worth listening to, without the need to present completed research work and/or validated results. It is, nevertheless, important to support your argument with evidence to ensure the validity of your claims. A position paper may be a short report and discussion of ideas, facts, situations, methods, procedures or results of scientific research (bibliographic, experimental, theoretical, or other) focused on one of the conference topic areas. The acceptance of a position paper is restricted to the categories of "short paper" or "poster", i.e. a position paper is not a candidate to acceptance as "full paper". DVET
PECCS is sponsored by INSTICC, held in collaboration with UPM (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid) and in cooperation with WfMC (Workflow Management Coalition), IEICE (Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers), IEICE SWIM (IEICE Special Interest Group on Software Interprise Modelling) and Euromicro.
The conference will include four Keynote Lectures delivered by distinguished world-class researchers: Dr. Norbert Streitz (Smart Future Initiative, Germany), Prof. Bernhard Rinner (Klagenfurt University, Austria), Prof. Lech Jozwiak (Eindhoven University of Technology / Euromicro, The Netherlands) and Prof. Anind K. Dey (Carnegie Mellon University, U.S.A.).
The Program Committee (check the website for a detailed list) includes internationally distinguished experts on the conference topic areas.
Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support.
A short list of presented papers will be selected for publication of extended and revised versions in a special issue of the 'IET Software' Journal.
The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index, INSPEC, DBLP and EI.
Best paper awards will be bestowed at the conference closing session.
All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SciTePress Digital Library (http://www.scitepress.org/DigitalLibrary/).
PECCS is co-located with VISIGRAPP 2011 (6th International Joint Conference on Computer Vision, Imaging and Computer Graphics Theory and Applications - http://www.visigrapp.org/) and registration to PECCS allows free access to the VISIGRAPP conference.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

Cloud computing refers to computing with a pool of
virtualized computer resources and is driven by economics of
scale. A cloud can host a variety of different workloads,
and allow workloads to be deployed and scaled-out quickly
on-demand by rapid provisioning of virtual machines or
physical machines. A cloud supports redundant,
self-recovering, highly scalable programming models and
allows workloads to recover from many unavoidable
hardware/software failures. A cloud also monitors resource
use in real time to enable rebalancing of allocations when
needed. The idea is to move desktop computing to a
service-oriented platform using server clusters and huge
databases at datacenters. Cloud computing leverages its low
cost and simplicity that benefits both users and the
providers through providing cost-effective services and
pay-per-use pricing model. In cloud computing, everything
including software, platform, and infrastructure is as a
service.
Cloud computing makes data truly mobile and a user can
simply access a chosen cloud with any internet-accessible
device. Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of
cluster, distributed, grid, service, ubiquitous, utility and
virtual computing; however it has emerged from these
computing domains and now has its own meaning. In cloud
computing, a user does not care much what is in the cloud or
what goes on there apart from being able to receive service
from it. Cloud computing is now associated with a higher
level abstraction of the cloud. Instead of there being
application software, routers and servers, there are now
services. The underlying hardware and software of networking
is of course still there but there are now higher level
service capabilities available to build applications. Hidden
behind the services are data and computer resources.
There have been many cloud computing platforms built so far
including Google Cloud, IBM BlueCloud and Amazon Elastic
Cloud. Programming models for cloud computing have been
developed including MapReduce by Google and Hadoop by Yahoo
group. Using these cloud computing models and toolsets,
IT-related capabilities are provided as services, accessible
without requiring detailed knowledge of the underlying
technology. Of course, many mature technologies are used as
components in cloud computing, but there are still many
unresolved and open problems due to its unique
characteristics which are different from distributed
computing, cluster computing, grid computing, utility
computing and service computing.
/IJCC/ addresses the most innovative developments, research
issues and solutions in cloud computing and its related
technologies.
*

CALL FOR PAPERS
Submissions OPEN
The nature and scope of the Information Security field has evolved over the past several years. No longer are we just concerned with protecting the technical edifice. Our emphasis has become more holistic and we tend to consider all aspects of information protection as central to the field of security. The Annual Security Conference provides a forum for discourses in Security, Assurance and Privacy that will define the moment and provide a useful basis for nurturing further dialogues.
Contributions in the form of research papers, panel proposals and case studies are invited. All submissions are peer reviewed and automatically considered for publication in the Journal of Information System Security (http://www.jissec.org) and in special issues of other major publications. Editors/AEs of other major journals are also in attendance to advise authors as to how their papers could be formulated for possible submission to any of the basket of AIS journals (European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Information Systems Research, Journal of AIS, Journal of MIS, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Journal of Information Technology) among others.
Further details and submission instructions can be found at:

SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPLEX SYSTEMS DESIGN& MANAGEMENT (CSDM 2011)
December 7-9, 2011 – Cité Universitaire, Paris (France)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Website : http://www.csdm2011.csdm.fr/-Submission-.html
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
The management of large-scale complex industrial systems has a considerable strategic importance for an important number of enterprises (most notably in Europe and North America). This spawned the relatively new academic field of "system architecture& engineering", producing a body of research that allows engineers to manage the increasing complexity of the technical systems they design. By its very nature, this field is at the interface between industry and academia, and requires its practitioners to be well versed in industrial application-related as well as theoretical knowledge. The ambition of the CSDM conference is to be the meeting point of reference for the industrial and academic environments working in the design and management of complex industrial systems.
IMPORTANT DATES
• Optional abstract pre-submission deadline: April 4, 2011
• Submission deadline: April 22, 2011
• Acceptance notice for industrial contributions: June 13, 2011
• Acceptance notice for academic contributions: June 30, 2011
• Final version submission deadline: August 31, 2011
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
As the CSDM conference is both industrial and academic, there will be different submission procedures according to the type of submitted contributions. Industrial submissions are aimed to present good practices in industry, shared experiences and case studies: either a 12-pages PDF-formatted paper or a 15-slides PowerPoint presentation is acceptable for selection purposes. Scientific submissions are aimed to present innovative methodological, technical or scientific results: a 12-pages PDF-formatted paper is necessary for selection purposes. Subject to contribution acceptance, inclusion on the Springer proceedings book requires a 12-pages paper formatted according to specific Springer style files. More details can be found on the conference website. Selected papers will be presented by their authors either on the format of a 30 minute talk or as a poster during a special session. This can be specified during the submission procedure. More details can be found on the conference website.
