*Motivation*
There is a growing recognition that adoption and extensive diffusion of
new ITs and technological innovations are critical for individuals to
have meaningful engagements in an information society. Similarly
important are new IT and technology innovations that help organizations
to survive and thrive in the highly competitive environment of the
global economy. Another frontier for impact is at the country level for
sustainable social and economic development. Some examples include the
emergence of new technologies, such as mobile and Internet-based
telephony, open software systems, infrastructure and application support
for digital social networks, digital entertainment services on the
Internet, and more intelligent hardware-based data storage systems.
Their incorporation into innovative products and services has had
dramatic benefits at all these levels.
The adoption and diffusion of new technologies and innovations research
literature is voluminous and has identified a number of factors
associated with adoption and diffusion across multiple levels. For
instance, the technology acceptance model offers a parsimonious theory
to explain individual acceptance of a new innovation. Similarly,
cumulative research at the organizational and interorganizational levels
has been able to explain innovation-related needs and abilities that are
associated with different adoption behaviors. However, as a number of
leading senior scholars and industry observers have expressed, there
still are many opportunities for theory development in the adoption and
diffusion of new innovations area. For example, Lucas et al. (2007)
stated that much research up to the present has emphasized individual
adoption and acceptance of innovations. They called for a broader
umbrella of research that offers rich theorizing for innovations with
technology by accounting for the relevant technological, institutional,
and historical contexts. Fichman (2004) called for research to move
beyond the dominant paradigm of establishing the relationships between
the independent variables of innovator profiles, and the dependent
variables of innovation quantity. Some of the most promising
opportunities for theory development involve such topics as contagion
effects, management fashion, innovation mindfulness, technology
ecosystems and innovation life cycles, innovation configurations,
technology destinies, the evolution of standards organizations, and
quality-led innovation.
Moreover, there are many new methods that can address research questions
and offer new approaches for theory development. For example, survival
analysis from public health and spatial econometrics from geographical
information systems offer new ways to support the development of
next-stage theoretical perspectives on the adoption and diffusion
process for different technological innovations. The same can be said
for data mining and other advanced statistical methods that blend
techniques from computer science to emphasize the recognition of
patterns and regime shifts and changes.
A final aspect of the motivation for this special issue is to engage
industry researchers, thought leaders, and practice innovators, who have
special organizational, business, government and other context reasons
for developing new approaches to understanding how technologies and
innovations diffuse. Some recent examples of specific interest include
the diffusion of social networking technologies, outsourcing and new
approaches to IT services, and mobile and nomadic computing.
Our objective of this special issue is to publish managerially
interesting, rigorous, forward-looking, and innovative research that
advances theoretical and methodological knowledge regarding the adoption
and diffusion of new technologies and innovations. Some prospective
topics may include but are not limited to the following:
Advertising-related technology innovations
Banking and financial services systems
Blogs and social networking technologies
Business intelligence & analytics
Business process modeling innovations
Digital media & entertainment innovations
Digital music & artistic transmutations

A DECADE OF MINING THE WEB
A Special Issue in the Journal of Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery (DMKD
2010)
Call for Papers
The Web has changed our way of living, doing business, exchanging information,
establishing and maintaining social contacts. Scientists are investigating the
phenomenon of the Web from different perspectives. Scholars in knowledge
discovery and data mining have turned their attention towards the Web, almost
as soon as people started using the Web for a variety of private and business
activities. The analysis of human behavior in the Web and the support of
knowledge extraction and information acquisition have been the topic of
conferences and workshops for over a decade. Among them the WEBKDD workshop,
organized since 1999 under the auspices of the ACM SIGKDD international
conference on knowledge discovery and data mining, has served in establishing a
community of Web miners, identifying the challenges of the practitioners and
promoting innovative research solutions. About 10 years after this first
workshop on mining the Web, we take a fresh look on research achievements and
challenges ahead: we invite contributions that combine a retrospection of the
achievements in the last decade with an in-depth discussion of current trends
and new open problems for the next decade. We solicit both surveys with a
strong visionary portion, and visionary works that build upon a solid
methodological groundwork. Topics include but are not limited to:
* web analytics
* web search
* recommender systems
* personalization user modeling
* online communities social web mining
* Semantic Web
* computational social science
* mining from virtual worlds and games
Submission procedure:
The submission takes place in two phases. In the first phase, an extended
abstract PROPOSAL of up to 6 pages should be submitted for evaluation. It
should contain adequate information for the reviewers to assess the importance
of the topic addressed, the width and depth of the research associated with it
and the solidity of the vision promoted. Authors of accepted proposals will be
invited to submit full papers.
Manuscripts should be submitted to:
http://DAMI.edmgr.com. This online system offers easy and straightforward
log-in and submission procedures, and supports a wide range of submission file

Background
==========
The new International Conference on IT-enabled Innovation in Enterprise
aims to provide a premier forum for the presentation and discussion of
business and organisational innovation associated with Information
Technology (IT).
In a global and interconnected economy of the 21st century innovation
management is an important aspect for enterprise sustainability and
survival. Over the last years the topic has attracted large interest
from research and practitioners alike. An organisation’s competitive
advantage depends on the ability of its people, processes, and systems
to manage innovation and seek sustainability. Innovation Management has
been discussed and examined from a variety of perspectives, including
behavioural, managerial, strategic and technological. In this regard,
information technology and technology innovation are frequently referred
as enablers and facilitators of innovation.
With this conference we intend to complement the mostly behavioural and
technology centred discussion on innovation. The aim of this conference
is to examine how information technology enables and generates
innovation and thus provides value to enterprises. The goal of this
conference is to discuss and share best practices, experiences, models,
methods and tools for innovation and enterprise renewal.
The conference seeks contributions on real-world business and
organisational applications, management concepts, models, methods and
tools associated with information technology enabled innovation. In this
regard, we encourage the submission of design science research for
innovation management in the form of constructs, models, methods and
instantiations. In-line with the aim of this conference, contributions
must highlight the value and innovation driven by information technology
in enterprise.
The idea of the conference is to provide a forum and platform for both
researchers and practitioners to exchange knowledge, ideas and to learn
from each other. Practitioners and researchers present findings and
experience. In addition to the official program, there is plenty of
opportunity for informal discussions and networking.
We invite contributions from industry, academia and collaborative
research as well as encourage postgraduate researchers to submit their
work. Submissions may be any of the following: research papers, short
papers, research in progress, case studies, teaching cases or experience
reports.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The First International Workshop on
MapReduce and its Applications (MAPREDUCE'10)
June 22nd, 2010 HPDC'2010, Chicago, IL, USA
(http://graal.ens-lyon.fr/mapreduce/)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
SCOPE
Since its introduction in 2004 by Google, MapReduce has become the
programming model of choice for processing large data sets. MapReduce
borrows from functional programming, where a programmer can define both
a Map task that maps a data set into another data set, and a Reduce task
that combines intermediate outputs into a final result. Although
MapReduce was originally developed for use by web enterprises in large
data-centers, this technique has gained a lot of attention from the
scientific community for its applicability in large parallel data
analysis (including geographic, high energy physics, genomics, etc..).
The purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for discussing recent
advances, identifying open issues, introducing developments and tools,
and presenting applications and enhancements for MapReduce (or very
similar) systems. We therefore cordially invite contributions that
investigate these issues, introduce new execution environments, apply
performance evaluations and show the applicability to science and
enterprise applications.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
* MapReduce implementation issues and improvements
* Implementation optimization for GPU and multi-core systems
* Extensions to the programing model
* Large-scale MapReduce (Grid and Desktop Grid)
* Use of CDN and P2P techniques
* Heterogeneity and fault-tolerance
* Scientific data-sets analysis
* Data and compute-intensive applications
* Tools and environments for MapReduce
* Algorithms using the MapReduce paradigm
PAPER SUBMISSIONS
Authors are invited to submit full papers of at most 8 pages, including
all figures and references. Papers should be formatted in the ACM
proceedings style (e.g.,
http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates). Submitted
papers must be original work that has not appeared in and is not under
consideration for another conference or a journal. Accepted papers will

Official CFP
Cellular Automata, a computational paradigm of Scientific Computing,
are parallel computing models and discrete dynamical systems, utilized
for modeling and simulating complex systems whose evolution can be
described in terms of local interactions. Following the success of our
1st Cellular Automata, Theory and Applications Workshop (in 2009),
which included an exciting keynote address from a leading Cellular
Automata researcher, Prof. Dr. Peter Sloot, we are glad to invite you
to our second edition.
The main objective of this Workshop, organized within the 2010 World
Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied
Computing (WORLDCOMP'10), is to offer scientists, researchers and
engineers an opportunity to express and confront their views on
trends, challenges, and state-of-the art in both theory and diverse
application fields such as engineering, physics, chemistry, biology,
geology, medicine, ecology, sociology, traffic control, economy, etc.
Distinguished papers will be published in a special issue of the
Journal of SuperComputing, a leading ISI research journal publishing
theoretical, practical, tutorial and survey papers on all aspects of
supercomputing.
Please see other publication details below.
SCOPE:
Topics of applied interest include, but are not limited to:
- cellular automata as models of parallelism,
- cellular automata as complex systems,
- cellular automata as dynamical systems,
- cellular automata models for real phenomena,
- cellular automata models based on geometrical forms,
