**** DEADLINE EXTENSION TO 15 JUNE 2009 ****
Second International Workshop on Story-Telling and Educational Games
(STEG'09)
http://www.prolearn-academy.org/Events/steg09
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Second Workshop on Story-Telling and Educational Gaming (STEG'09) will
be held in conjunction with the 8th International Conference on Web-based
Learning (ICWL'09, http://www.hkws.org/events/icwl2009/), Aachen, Germany,
August 19-21, 2009.
CONTEXT AND MOTIVATION
The Second Workshop on Story-Telling and Educational Gaming (STEG'09) will
be a continuative event to bring together international researchers from
the story-telling and educational gaming research areas, based on the
success of the First STEG Workshop (STEG'08). STEG'08 was held as a
one-day event triggering fruitful discussions and reporting advanced
research progress in this area. More information about STEG'08 can be
found at http://www.prolearn-academy.org/Events/steg08. The paper winning
the "best paper award" will be published in the International Journal on
Technology Enhanced Learning (IJTEL). STEG'09 aims to reinforce the
international community and to explore advanced research in this research
domain..
Stories and story-telling are cultural achievements of significant
relevance even in modern times. Nowadays, story-telling is being enhanced
with the convergence of sociology, pedagogy, and technology. In recent
years, computer gaming has also been deployed for educational purposes and
has proved to be an effective approach to mental stimulation and
intelligence development. Many conceptual similarities and some procedural
correlation exist between story-telling and educational gaming. Therefore
these two areas can be clubbed for research on Technology Enhanced
Learning (TEL). Many facets of story-telling and educational gaming
emulate real life processes, which can be represented either as complex
story graphs or as interleaved sub-problems. This model is congruent with
that used for Technology Enhanced Learning in vocational training. TEL in
vocational training requires learning models that focus more on the
process and less on the content.
The main difference between educational games and story-telling lies in
the users motivational point of view. Story-telling aims at reliving real
life tasks and capturing previous experiences in problem-solving for
reuse, while educational games reproduce real life tasks in a virtual
world in an (ideally) engaging and attractive process. Nevertheless,
educational games require highly specialized technical and pedagogical
skills and learning processes to cover the topics in sufficient depth and
breadth. Imbalance between depth and breadth of study can lead to
producing trivial games, which in turn can lead to de-motivating the
learner.
While the integration of learning and gaming provides a great opportunity,
several motivational challenges (particularly in vocational training) must
also be addressed to ensure successful realization. Non-linear digital
stories are an ideal starting point for the creation of educational games,
since each story addresses a certain problem, so that the story recipient
can gain benefit from other users experiences. This leads to the
development of more realistic stories, which can provide the kernel for
developing non-trivial educational videogames as a further step. These
stories can cover the instructional portion of an educational game, while
the game would add the motivation and engagement part.
In summary, this workshop aims at bringing together researchers, experts
and practitioners from the domains of non-linear digital interactive
story-telling and educational gaming to share ideas and knowledge. There
is a great amount of separate research in these two fields and the
celebration of this workshop will allow the participants to discover and
leverage potential synergies.
Workshop topics
- Story-telling and game theories
- Story and game design paradigms for Web-based Learning
- Augmented story-telling and gaming

Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) is a computing paradigm that exploits
both web services and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) as fundamental
elements for developing software systems. This paradigm changes the way
software systems are designed, architected, delivered and consumed.
With the availability of open standards, to overcome cross-platform
barriers, and facilities to support service construction, SOA and Web
services are being adopted by industries to make business services
perform more efficiently and effectively. They contribute to the shaping
of the processes of business modeling , solution creation, service
delivery, and software architecture design, development and deployment.
However, the applications and methods of SOA have not been fully exploited.
The Special issue on Service Oriented Applications and Integration for
e-Commerce (SOAIEC) will be devoted to the integration and collaboration
technologies and best practices on SOA. The mission is to bridge the gap
between business and information technology using service-oriented
paradigms, technologies and approaches.
The topics will include:
 Architectures and frameworks for SOA
 Service or service-oriented system modeling
 Service-oriented integration methods and technologies
 Service-oriented collaboration models and techniques
Engineering platforms or tools for SOA
Delivery or management platforms or tools for SOA
Security, QoS, Trust with SOC or SOA
Best practices or case study for SOA
Techniques and tools for SAAS (Software A s a Service).

###########################################################################
Objectives
----------
The strategic importance of modelling is recognised by an increasing
number
of companies and public agencies. Enterprise modelling delivers the
'blueprints' for codesigning organisations and their information systems,
so
that they complement each other in an optimal way. Achieving this
interplay
requires a multi-perspective approach that takes into account technical,
organisational and economic aspects. It also recommends the cooperation of
researchers from different fields such as Information Systems, Business
Informatics and Computer Science.
Subject and Topics
------------------
The workshop will address all aspects relevant for enterprise modelling
and
for the design of information systems architectures. It will provide an
international forum to explore new avenues by combining the contributions
of
different 'schools' of Information Systems, Business Informatics, and
Computer Science. Therefore, the workshop is open for a broad range of
subjects. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
. enterprise modelling: languages, methods and tools
. reference models
. patterns for enterprise modelling
. modeling services and service compositions in service-oriented
architectures
. process modelling in process-aware information systems
. component-oriented software architectures
. model-driven system development
. model analysis and simulation
. ontologies for enterprise modelling
. model evolution and life cycle management

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON SOFTWARE ECOSYSTEMS (IWSECO'09)
Collaboration, competition, partnership and reuse
September 27, 2009, in Falls Church, Virginia, USA
http://www.softwareecosystems.org/workshop/
in conjunction with the 11th International Conference on Software Reuse
(ICSR'09)
http://icsr11.isase.org/
September 27 - 30, 2009, Falls Church, Virginia, USA
* WORKSHOP THEME *
Software vendors no longer function as independent units, where all
customers are end-users, where there are no suppliers, and where all
software is built in-house. Instead, software vendors have become
networked, i.e., software vendors are depending on (communities of)
service and software component suppliers, value-added-resellers, and
pro-active customers who build and share customizations. Software vendors
now have to consider their strategic role in the software ecosystem to
survive. With their role in the software ecosystem in mind, software
vendors can become more successful by opening up their business, devising
new business models, forging long-lasting relationships with partnership
networks, and overcoming technical and social challenges that are part of
these innovations.
A software ecosystem is a set of actors functioning as a unit and
interacting with a shared market for software and services, together with
the relationships among them. These relationships are frequently
underpinned by a common technological platform or market and operate
through the exchange of information, resources and artifacts. Several
challenges lie in the research area of software ecosystems. To begin with,
insightful and scalable modeling techniques for software ecosystems
currently do not exist. Furthermore, methods are required that enable
software vendors to transform their legacy architectures to accommodate
reusability of internal common artifacts and external components and
services. Finally, methods are required that support software vendors in
choosing survival strategies in software ecosystems. We welcome papers
that specifically address these topics.
The Workshop on Software Ecosystems aims to further increase the body of
knowledge in this specific area of software reuse and software engineering
by providing a forum to exchange ideas and discuss state-of-the-art
results. It will build and shape the community of leading practitioners
and research experts. Given the relevance of software ecosystems, and the
rather unexplored scientific and industry contribution in this field, the
workshop will deliver a state-of-the-practice overview of the available
knowledge on software ecosystems, as well as an overview of challenges for
further research.

Subject: Call for Papers for the IEEE 2009 International Conference on
Cloud Computing (CLOUD-II 2009)
IEEE 2009 International Conference on Cloud Computing (CLOUD-II 2009)
September 21-25, 2009, Bangalore, India
http://www.thecloudcomputing.org/2009/2
Sponsored by the Technical Committee on Services Computing (TC-SVC), IEEE
Computer Society.
2009 International Conference on Cloud Computing is the identified
hot-topic conference of the IEEE 2009 World Congress on Services (SERVICES
2009). CLOUD-II 2009 will be co-located with the 6th IEEE International
Conference on Services Computing (SCC 2009).
The theme of the 2009 International Conference on Cloud Computing
(CLOUD-II 2009) is Change We Can Lead.
Cloud Computing has become a scalable services delivery platform in the
field of Services Computing. The technical foundations of Cloud Computing
include Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Virtualizations of
hardware and software. The goal of Cloud Computing is to share resources
among the cloud service consumers, cloud partners, and cloud vendors in
the cloud value chain. The resource sharing at various levels results in
various cloud offerings such as infrastructure cloud (e.g. hardware, IT
infrastructure management), software cloud (e.g. SaaS focusing on
middleware as a service, or traditional CRM as a service), application
cloud (e.g. Application as a Service, UML modeling tools as a service,
social network as a service), and business cloud (e.g. business process as
a service).
In the fast growing Services Computing community, we have launched a
series of events to promote and grow Cloud Computing in the past years. In
2002, we promoted Business Grid to share business processes and
applications. In early 2008, The IEEE Transactions on Services Computing
(TSC) has adopted Cloud Computing to be included in the taxonomy as a body
of knowledge area of Services Computing. In July 2008, the IEEE
International Conference on Services Computing (SCC 2008) has delivered a
keynote panel Business Cloud: Bridging The Power of SOA and Cloud
Computing and a keynote Cloud Computing. In September 2008, the 2008
IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2008) has delivered a
keynote Web Services: Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Communication, and
Beyond and a panel "Cloud Computing and IT as a Service: Opportunities
and Challenges" to further motivate the community members to define Cloud
Computing in various areas.
Based on the technology foundations and industry driving forces, the 2009
International Conference on Cloud Computing (CLOUD 2009) is created to
provide a prime international forum for both researchers and industry
practitioners to exchange the latest fundamental advances in the state of
the art and practice of Cloud Computing, identify emerging research
topics, and define the future of Cloud Computing.
CLOUD 2009 is the HOT-TOPIC conference highlighted in the 2009 World
Congress on Services (SERVICES 2009), which is jointly sponsored by IEEE
Computer Society Technical Committee on Services Computing (TC-SVC) and
Services Society. CLOUD-II 2009 will be co-located with the 6th IEEE
International Conference on Services Computing (SCC 2009).
To discuss this emerging enabling technology of the modern services
industry, CLOUD-II 2009 invites you to join the seventh years gathering
that explores "Services" Science and Technology in the field of Services
Computing, which was formally promoted by IEEE Computer Society since
2003. From technology foundation perspective, Services Computing has
become the default discipline in the modern services industry.
CLOUD-II 2009 tries to attract researchers, practitioners, and industry
business leaders in all the following areas to help define and shape cloud
computing, and its related modernization strategy and directions of the
services industry. You are invited to submit research, engineering, and
business innovation papers to the following areas:
* Infrastructure Cloud
