CALL FOR PAPERS
==================================================
GRIDS MEET AUTONOMIC COMPUTING (GMAC) Workshop
Barcelona, Spain, 15 June 2009
http://www.frombarcelona.org/GRIDmeetsAC/
In association with
the 6th International Conference on Autonomic Computing & Communications
IMPORTANT DATES
Full paper: 23 February 2009
Author notification: 23 March 2009
Final manuscripts: 6 April 2009
SCOPE
Scientific communities worldwide have constructed massive grids that
contain several tens of thousands of CPU's and several PetaBytes of
storage. The complexity of grids has increased due to the large range of
dynamic resources involved: hardware and middleware, but also software
usage rights, sensors, etc. Grid applications taking advantage of those
resources have also increased in complexity. In addition, grid usage is
based on a sharing paradigm, which introduces the collective behaviour
of users as a new complicating factor. A major technical and societal
challenge for the immediate future is the stabilisation of production
grids. The control and maintenance of these complex systems to achieve
that remain a significant operational issue. Application optimization is
similarly challenging.
Autonomic Computing has emerged as a specific scientific domain, with
the strong involvement of industry. Autonomic computing is highly
relevant to grid systems at a time when production grids have become
critical scientific infrastructures and must move to sustainable models.
Considering the volume and structure of the manpower dedicated to the
day-to-day operations, Self-Optimization, Self-Healing and
Self-Configuration could provide immediate benefits.
At the core of the autonomic computing is the fact that high-level goals
should be exposed by the middleware and should be easily tuned by users
and system administrators. The Workshop will contribute to building
bridges between grid researchers on one hand and those in the autonomic
computing community on the other. The focus of the workshop is to
identify key scientific challenges related to the management and
evolution of grids as a specific category of complex large-scale
systems. The goal of the workshop is to promote community wide
discussion of, and collaboration on potentially high-impact ideas that
will influence and foster continued research in improving the
manageability and reliability of grids.
The workshop will feature invited presentations from major grid projects
and Autonomic Computing scientists as well as regular papers and
posters. The format will leave ample time for discussion
PAPER/POSTER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
Full papers (a maximum of 8 pages in length) and posters (2 pages) are
invited. All manuscripts will be reviewed and judged on merits including
correctness, originality, quality of presentation, and relevance to the
workshop themes. Please see the conference web site for more information
on the submission process. It is expected that the proceedings will be
published by ACM.
ATTENDANCE
At least one author of each accepted submission must attend the
workshop. Registration fee to the workshop is included in the ICAC 2009
conference fee.

Book Description:
This monograph breaks fresh ground in dealing with dynamic
reconfigurability taking
advantage of algebraic and coalgebraic approaches - the firm formal
methods applicable to
a wide variety of reconfigurable computing systems. Its purpose is to
make a formal basis
more accessible to researchers, scientists and graduate students as
well as practitioners
by providing them with state-of-the-art research results and future
opportunities and
trends. While the dealing with this subject is regularly very
mathematical, "Dynamic
Reconfigurability in Reconfigurable Computing Systems: Formal Aspects
of Computing" goes
through the theory of algebras and coalgebras straightforwardly,
leading the readers to an
understanding of what it means to give a rigorous approach to aspects
of dynamic
reconfigurability. The book is self-contained and there are no
requirements other than a
knowledge on the major principles of reconfigurable computing systems.
Important features include:
- A comprehensive reference on reconfigurable computing,
- State-of-the-art research results created in the field,
- Illustrative figures enabling easy reading, and
- Emerging trends and open research problems and issues.
The material is organised into nine chapters addressing the following:
- An algebra of reconfiguration built to model the transformations of
a DPGA-based
configuration.
- The provable algorithms for partially altering a DPGA-based
configuration at runtime
without stopping the operation of the whole system.
- A unifying framework of reconfiguration seen as a coalgebraic model,
by this way, to
observe the reconfiguration processes using the concept of functional
stream derivatives.
- From the combinational properties of reconfiguration, the stream calculus and
coinduction applied to classify the arrangements of the
transformations of a DPGA-based
configuration in an expressive, powerful and uniform way.
- Computing based on data flow of flowware considered as a behavioural
function in stream
calculus to expose the semantics for graphical networks of Register
Transfer Level (RTL),
and coinduction used to compute such behavioural functions.
- A semantics based on a Partial Order-based Model (POM) for the
Register Transfer Level
(RTL) and, through this semantics, a validation method proposed to
test the correctness of
an RTL synthesis result.

A brief description of each of the mini-tracks is given below.
Mini-Track: Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining
===================================================
Riyaz T. Sikora (co-chair SIGABIS)
University of Texas at Arlington
One of the side effects of the increase in connectivity and collaboration
has been the phenomenal increase in the magnitude and volatility of the
available data. Intelligent methods are now emerging as a way to deal with
this staggering variety and volume of data in distributed and
heterogeneous environments. This has become especially relevant since most
large-scale information systems applications of today assume that
components will be added dynamically and that they will be autonomous
(serve different users or providers and fulfill different goals) and
heterogeneous (be built in different ways).
The mini-track on AI and DM provides a forum to bring together like-minded
researchers, teachers, and practitioners to advance this important field.
The AI/DM mini-track will seek research and applications highlighting the
frontiers of new knowledge and advances in AI and DM. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:
* Foundations of AI and DM
* Machine Learning and Statistical Learning Algorithms
* Data Mining
* Pattern Recognition
* Intelligent Agents
* Heuristic Search
* Intelligent Information Retrieval
* Support Vector Machines
* Web/Text mining
* Intelligent Search Techniques
* Reinforcement Learning
Mini-Track: Grid Computing
==========================
Manish Agrawal
University of South Florida
Grid computing potentially creates enormous processing power dedicated to
large computing-intensive tasks. Common uses of grid computing include
computer aided design, drug discovery, back-office data processing,
information services, and other interesting academic and social problems
such as the search for extra-terrestrial life. The emergence of grid
computing has led to research questions including the generalizability of
grid computing solutions, information privacy and assurance on the grid,
and problem decomposition. The purpose of this mini-track is to provide a
forum for researchers and practitioners to explore these and other
problems, ideas, experiences, and solutions on grid computing.
Potential topics (not limited to):
* Grid architectures
* Grid applications
* Information services on grids
* Grid application workflows
* Privacy on grid hosts
* Heterogeneity on the grid
* Trust development within the grid
* Information assurance on the grid
* Development models
* Grid resource management
* Business and social implications of grids
Mini-Track: Intelligent Agent and Multi-Agent Systems
=====================================================
Vijayan Sugumaran, Oakland University
Stefan Kirn, Universität Hohenheim
While research on intelligent agent and multi-agent systems have
progressed, there are still a number of issues that have to be explored in
terms of agent design, implementation, integration, and deployment. For
example, salient characteristics of agents in different domains, formal
approaches for agent-oriented modeling, designing and implementing
agent-oriented information systems, agent collaboration and coordination
in multi-agent systems, and organizational impact of agent-based systems
are some of the areas in need of further research.
Possible Topics (but not limited to):
* Intelligent Applications in Business
* Distributed Intelligent Systems
* Agent architectures and behavior models
* Models and architectures for agent-oriented information systems
* Agent-oriented software engineering
* Multi-agent systems and applications
* Agent collaboration, and coordination
* Human and agent interaction models
* Agent-based process and workflow systems
* Agents and knowledge management
* Agent-based simulation
* Agent-based e-commerce applications
* Mobile Agents
* Privacy, security, and trust issues in agent-based environments

of Semantic Web requires significant improvements to make it more
effective in a broader range of applications.
This mini-track will provide a forum for gaining a better understanding of
these new technologies and their business aspects. Potential
authors/researchers are encouraged to submit papers that address the
issues related to designing, developing, and evaluating Semantic
Web/Ontology from the technical, behavioral, economical, or managerial
perspectives.
This mini-track will focus on:
* Semantic interoperability
* Semantic web for e-business and e-learning
* Service discovery, description, and composition
* Semantic Web mining
* Ontology creation, evolution, reconciliation, and mediation
* Ontology mapping, Integration, and/or alignment
* Software agents for Semantic Web
* Innovative Semantic Web/Ontology applications
* Managerial Issues of Semantic Web/Ontology

V Workshop "A sociotechnical perspective on Software Engineering"
In conjunction with the 8th Brazilian Symposium on Software Quality
(http://www.sbqs2009.ufop.br)
Ouro Preto, MG, Brazil, June 2nd, 2009
==============================================================
Important dates
March 9th 2009 (24h00 GMT+3) Deadline for paper submission
April 4th 2009 Submission results disclosed
May 9th 2009 - Camera-ready version
June 2nd 2009 - WOSES
Authors of the best papers may be invited to submit an extended version of
their works for publication in a special issue of the INFOCOMP Journal of
Computer Science: http://www.dcc.ufla.br/infocomp/ingles/index_eng.htm
MOTIVATION
Following on its first four editions, WOSES is proposed as a pioneer event
in Brazil dedicated to investigate the possibilities and the potential of a
sociotechnical perspective on the practices of software development and use
in its intent to design and develop high quality software. The
sociotechnical view seeks to apprehend software development without
fragmenting it into "technical aspects or factors" on the one hand, and
"non-technical aspects or factors" on the other hand, and thereby beter
describing the "seamless cloth" that imbricates the technical and the social
into the same indivisible tissue constituted by the practices of software
design and use. (For further details, see the material of the four previous
workshop editions in http://www.cos.ufrj.br/woses and see Vols.18:1 and 19:2
of the journal Scientia with revised editions of selected papers of WOSES
in http://www.unisinos.br/publicacoes_cientificas/Scientia/ . Vol. 14
of the journal RITA brings also two papers related to WOSES.)
TARGET AUDIENCE
Researchers and practitioners whose work and concerns are related (directly
and indirectly) to the interplay between so-called non-technical, social,
organizational or cultural aspects with the "technical" aspects for software
engineering, and that are therefore potentially or actually aware of the
need for a sociotechnical perspective as an effective instrument to improve
the quality of software products.
TOPICS OF INTEREST (not exhaustive)
* Software processes and sociotechnical issues;
* History of Software Engineering (SE);

Background and Goals
-------------------------------
Business process management (BPM) technologies are considered as one of
the key success stories in providing process control and monitoring
functions, and addressing complex integration requirements in enterprise
systems.
However, the expectation of what this technology must deliver is a
moving target. Whereas the success of coordinative processes depends
upon the conformance to the prescribed control flow, the success of the
collaborative process depends upon the ability to detect and react to
changing conditions. What was true for workflow systems is no longer
acceptable in the dynamic and cross organizational requirements for
management of collaborative processes.
The trend is going towards agile, responsive, and (self-)adaptive
business processes which are able to make use of existing context
information in order to align to changing business requirements.
BPM has become a very extensive area with several specialized aspects.
This workshop intends to provide a forum wherein challenges in flexible,
context-aware, and collaborative business process management can be
debated. We seek
papers that present innovative technology solutions to these challenges
based on well justified practical assumptions and sound theoretical
foundations.
Submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of significance,
originality, technical quality, and exposition. Papers should clearly
establish the research contribution, and relation to previous research.
Position and survey papers are also welcome.
Topics of interest
--------------------------------
This year we particularly solicit approaches to context-aware, agile,
responsive, and adaptive business processes. Below we provide a list of
relevant topics, however papers outside these topics but within the
general scope of the workshop scope will still be considered.
- Context-aware business processes
- Adaptive process management
- Context modeling (e.g., ontologies, rule-based approaches)
- Knowledge and task management in (collaborative) processes
- Self-adapting / self-healing business processes
- Technologies for modeling and analysis of (collaborative) processes
- Interactive approaches for end-user engagement and visualization of
business processes (can include Web 2.0)
- Event driven process management
- Collaboration modeling using game theory and/or social networks
(wisdom of crowds) in Business Process Management
- Usability and technology adoption of BPM solutions
- Exception Handling in BPM
- Patterns for context-aware BPM
Format of the Workshop
-------------------------------
The workshop will consist of oral presentations, discussions, and
invited talks. The workshop will also provide opportunity for demo
sessions, where presenters can showcase advanced prototypes based on
their research.
Submission of Papers
-------------------------------
All papers must be written in English, and the length of the paper
should not exceed 5,000 words or 10 pages (including figures and
tables). Instructions for preparing the manuscript (in Word and Latex
format) are available at the ICEIS web site. Papers (in PDF format)
should be submitted online through the ICEIS online submission system
(http://www.insticc.org/Primoris/). In addition, an email must be sent
to all workshop chairs including: title, authors' affiliation, and an
abstract of the paper submitted.
Workshop Proceedings
-------------------------------
All accepted papers will be published in workshop proceedings book with
an ISBN#, which will be printed by INSTICC Press. The proceedings will
be available at the time of the
workshop.

Call for Papers for the Mini Track
‘Business Models for the Digital Economy’
AMCIS - Americas Conference on Information Systems
San Francisco, USA, August 6-9, 2009
http://amcis2009.aisnet.org/
This mini-track serves as a forum for the presentation and discussion of
new and innovative approaches of business models beyond e-commerce for
coping with the challenges of the digital economy. We consider an
economy based on the digitization of information and the respective
information and communication infrastructure as digital economy. This
new type of economy implies not only technological, but also and
especially structural and process-related challenges and potential. The
way in which economic value is created will change fundamentally in the
digital economy and thus transform the structure of economies and societies.
This evolution will radically alter processes and structures within and
between industries leading to the digital economy. All of these
developments characterize the emerging digital economy and cause new
challenges businesses have to cope with. This clearly will have a major
impact on how business models have to be designed. Therefore this
mini-track addresses all topics concerned with the analysis, design,
development, implementation, and control of future business models for
the creation of economic value in the digital economy from a
communication, organizational, business, economic, and managerial
perspective applying a theoretical, conceptual, or practical approach.
Suggested topics include but are not limited to the following:
Challenges and foundations of the digital economy
Analytical and architectural frameworks for new business models
Design approaches/methods for new business models
Models and modeling techniques/approaches for new business models
Industry perspectives on business models
Challenges of converging industries:
Financial industry (e.g., emerging intermediaries, private/retail
banking, insurance)
Media industry (e.g., publishing, music business)
Telecommunications (e.g., mobile network operators)
A business model perspective on …
Mobile Business
‘Ubiquitous Commerce’
‘Collaborative Commerce’
Web 2.0 business models
Trust and new business models

AMCIS 2009 Call for Papers
Mini-track title: Individual Characteristics and the Diffusion of
Information Technologies [Track: the Diffusion of IT (SIGADIT)]
15th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2009) San
Francisco, California August 6-9, 2009
Description:
Since the mid]1990s, examining individual differences has assumed an
increasingly prominent role in information technology diffusion research.
Individual factors such as personal innovativeness and gender have been
identified as important antecedents, or moderators, of beliefs about the
ability to use and innovate with information technology. Although many
individual characteristics are enduring, i.e., they canft be changed, a
deeper understanding of their influence on individualsf perceptions of IT
can inform strategies IT training and implementation. For this mini track,
we invite papers that address all aspects of research that extend our
understanding of enduring individual characteristics influence IT adoption
and infusion in the workplace, especially personality and demographic
characteristics that influence technology use. The unique aspect of this
mini track, which differentiates it from other tracks on technology
diffusion, is its focus on understanding how individual differences shape
individual understanding and use of information technology. As a group, we
anticipate that our sessions will create a robust exchange of ideas on how
to model the influence of, and design strategies to shape the use of,
information technology in the workplace.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
* gBig 5h personality traits and technology use.
* Learning Style and technology use
* Innovativeness and Innovation
* Personality and Post]Adoption Technology Use
* Personality and Maladaptive Technology Use
* Efficacy, locus of control, and applications of Information Technology
* The definition and measurement of constructs such as computer
self-efficacy, attributions towards technology's performance,
innovativeness related to technology's use in organizations.
* Cognitive Ability as it relates to understanding and use of information
technology
* Gender and its implications for use of IT in the workplace
* Aging and its implications for understanding how and when to use
technology
* Cultural values (as an individual difference) and their influence on the
decision to use, and subsequent use of, information technology.
