--- SOCCER 2008 ---
4th International Workshop on Service-Oriented Computing
Consequences for Engineering Requirements in Conjunction with RE 2008
Barcelona (Spain), September 8, 2008
http://home.dei.polimi.it/baresi/soccer08/
Organizers:
Luciano Baresi - Politecnico di Milano, Italy
Neil Maiden - CITY University London, UK
Klaus Pohl - University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany
Keynote By: Anthony Finkelstein, University College London, UK
Paper submission deadline: July 4, 2008 (extended)
********************************************************************
OBJECTIVES:
The objective of this workshop is to host significant and high-quality contributions in all topics related to requirements engineering for service-oriented software, with the goal of letting participants gain insights into the current state of the art and future challenges, create synergies through integration, and foster cross-cooperation. Besides building a community, the main result will be the continued development of a research agenda to guide and support researchers in the field.
TOPICS OF INTEREST:
Software-based systems are changing. There is increasing interest in autonomic and self-* systems that are dynamic and flexibility based on new capabilities to self-reconfigure and self-resolve anomalous situations. Currently these capabilities are delivered using services, and in particular web services, using a service-oriented approach. Web services are the natural evolution of conventional middleware technologies to support Web-based and enterprise-level integration, but the paradigm can also serve as basis for other classes of systems. For example, it can be applied to support all systems which require a high degree of flexibility and dynamism to discover available functionality at run-time and to negotiate its quality parameters dynamically. This is the case, for example, for ambient computing and automotive applications that need to cope with changing (evolving) configurations. The dynamic nature of these systems precludes the a-priori identification of the components that define the system and demands for the run-time discovery and composition of such services.
To realize a service-oriented architecture we need techniques to identify and specify requirements on services in a machine-interpretable way to enable the dynamic composition and deployment of systems that meet the expectations of the different stakeholders. We need new capabilities to monitor the behaviour of deployed systems and reasoning on partial matches, deviations, and corrective actions. We need to be able to exploit the availability of services to discover new opportunities that improve existing requirements processes and techniques. And finally we need to able to configure systems from different types of services, including web services, software components and hybrid services that include human intervention.
The workshop will enable communities that work on requirements and service-oriented applications to meet together and share their knowledge to set appropriate theoretical foundations, define special-purpose methodologies for requirements elicitation, and develop supporting technology. The workshop also aims at promoting research directions on requirements engineering for the class of applications that require autonomic and self-managing systems.
CONTRIBUTIONS:
Authors are expected to submit their position papers of approximately 5,000 words to the organizers. Submissions should be sent by email attachment (PDF format) to baresi(a)elet.polimi.it. Papers will be reviewed by the PC members. Proceedings will be available in the form of technical report during the conference.

The proceedings will be published by Springer
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Enterprise Modeling (EM) has gained substantial of popularity both in the
academic community and among practitioners. There is a variety of EM
methods, approaches, and tools developed and offered on the market. In
practice they are used for various purposes such as business strategy
development, process restructuring, as well as business and IT
architecture alignment and governance.
PoEM08 aims to establish a dedicated forum where the use of EM in
practice is addressed by bringing together researchers, users and
practitioners. The conference program will feature paper presentations and
interactive discussion sessions. More specifically the goals of the
conference are:
- to develop a better understanding of the practice of EM
- to contribute to improved EM practice
- to share knowledge among researchers and practitioners
- to form a community of researcher and practitioners
- to develop a research agenda on the practice of EM
The conference theme is EM in different application contexts, e.g.
software development, including agile development, as well as business
development, governance, and change.
Topics relevant for submissions include, but are not limited to, the
following:
- Evaluation of EM methods from a practice perspective
- The process of modeling and guidelines for modeling
- Management of EM projects
- Use of EM in different contexts

Paper types:
Experience papers present problems or challenges encountered in practice,
relate success and failure stories, or report on industrial practices. The
focus is on 'what' and on lessons learned, not on an in-depth analysis of
'why'. The practice must be clearly described and its context must be
given. Readers should be able to draw conclusions for their own practice.
Research papers describe original research contributions (theoretical,
methodological or conceptual) to the area of EM. A research paper should
clearly describe the situation or problem that is tackled, the relevant
state of the art, the position or solution suggested and the potential or
the evaluated benefits of the contribution.
Evaluation papers evaluate existing problem situations or validate
proposed solutions with scientific means. Scientific reflection on
problems and practices in industry also falls into this category. The
topic of the evaluation presented in the paper as well as its causal or
logical properties must be clearly stated. The research method must be
sound and appropriate.
Idea papers can describe completely new research positions or approaches,
in order to face to a generic situation that arises because of, for
instance, new methods and tools or new types of emerging EM challenges.
They must describe precisely the situation and demonstrate the
shortcomings of the current methods, tools, ways of reasoning,
meta-models, etc.

IWSOS 2008
3rd International Workshop on Self-Organizing Systems
- Self-Organizing Networks and Networked Systems -
December 10-12, 2008
Vienna, Austria
http://iwsos.ani.univie.ac.at/
Submission deadline (full papers): ** EXTENDED ** July 10, 2008
*********************************************************************
Workshop Scope
--------------
IWSOS 2008 is the third workshop in a series of annual workshops
dedicated to self-organization in networks and networked systems.
The necessity for and expected benefit of self-organization is
caused by the growing scale, complexity, and heterogeneity of future
networked systems, like the future Internet. For example, these
networks will consist of interconnected infrastructure-based, mobile
ad-hoc, and sensor networks that could be spontaneously deployed in
hostile environments, have a dynamic population and a potentially
short life time. In spite of this, there will be stringent user
requirements, such as resilience and real-time guarantees. Although
self-organization is desirable for these kinds of networks, it is
not yet clear to what extent self-organization can be exploited.
Research into networked systems has recently started to
systematically investigate self-organization, which has lead to a
multitude of open research issues. The applicability of well-known
self-organizing techniques to specific networks and networked
systems has to be investigated, as well as adaptations and novel
approaches inspired by, e.g., cooperation in nature and evolutionary
dynamics, sociology, and game theory. Additionally, models originating
from areas like feedback control and complex system's research, are
required for these networked systems in order to analyze their
controllability and emergent behavior. Aspects of engineering
self-organizing networked systems should be studied that discuss
paradigms like programmable networks, and tools and frameworks for
deploying, testing, and monitoring self-organizing networks. The role
of self-organization in the future Internet and the impact on its
architecture is an important topic, as well as the application of
self-organization in future intelligent transportation systems and
vehicular ad-hoc networks.
Building on the success of its predecessors, this workshop aims at
bringing together leading international researchers to create a
visionary forum for investigating the potential of self-organization
for networked systems by including the following key topics (not a
restricted list):
* Self-organization and self-management
* Self-configuration and self-optimization
* Self-protection, -diagnosis, and -healing
* Autonomic networking principles and practice
* Control theory based models and approaches of self-organization
* Feedback control in networked systems
* Group-forming networks and techniques

* Risks in self-organization and risk management techniques
* The (un-)controllability of self-organizing emergent systems
* Quality of Service / service level agreements and
self-organization
* Resilience, robustness, and fault tolerance for networked
systems
* Security in self-organizing networked systems
* Self-* sensor and ad-hoc networks
* Self-* techniques in peer-to-peer networks
* Self-organization of over- and underlays and in cross-layering
