AI*IA-07 Special Track on "AI and Robotics"
*******************************************
Description
The acceptance and success of robotics in real environments is still
substantially depending on the ability of robots to effectively act,
possibly in cooperation with other robots or devices, in unknown and
dynamic environments as well as to naturally interact with humans.
The goal of the special track on "AI and Robotics" is to provide a forum
for discussion of the research approaches that face some of the scientific
challenges raised by the attempt to build robotic systems, regarded as
intelligent agents: companions, assistants, teammates. In particular, we
welcome contributions that exploit AI techniques and approaches to the
design of intelligent robotic agents.
The European Robotic Platform, in addition to industry, indicates two major
commercial targets for robotics, service and security/space. Consequently,
we encourage presentation of research work specifically in these
application areas.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Cognitive Robotics
- Robotic Perception
- Robotic Learning
- Human Robot Interaction
- Emotional Robotics
- Humanoid Robots
- Bioinspired Robotics
- Service Robotics
- Space Robotics
- Security Robotics

AI*IA-07 Special Track on "AI for Intelligent Access to Multimedia Data"
************************************************************************
Description
The full exploitation of multimedia archives is only viable through
technologies that allow filling the so-called Semantic Gap between
low-level multimedia descriptors and the semantics of human interpretation.
Although technologies for indexing of AV material are now available,
locating the suitable information given the scale and the heterogeneity of
the current and growing archives is still an open problem. As the tradition
and trends in information retrieval and Web search suggests, information
integration at a conceptual level and automatic knowledge discovery and
acquisition are required. The role of AI is here twofold. On one side
knowledge representation technologies are requested to support the
managemenet of the overall complexity according to current standard
formalisms and best practices applied in the Semantic Web. On the other
hand, the typical redundancy in multimedia data opens the way to
intelligent inductive technologies. Data mining and machine learning
methods can be successfully applied to enrich data descriptions, increase
their abstraction leveland scale up to the suitable dimensions. Mining the
huge information and knowledge embodied by the audiovisual archives
represents an important step forward.
In this special track, researchers and practitioners from academic and
industrial institutions are expected to present their work in the area of
multimedia content processing and artificial intelligence. Recent
theoretical and applicative results about representation, indexing,
acquisition and delivery of multimedia semantics in real scenarios will be
presented and discussed. The outcome will represent a possibly heterogenous
but wide picture of the area that surveys current results and stimulates
cross-fertilization among independent research fields.

***************************************************
AI*IA-07 Special Track on "AI and Expressive Media"
***************************************************
AI techniques are widespread in novel communication forms, especially
in those that aim at shaping audience/user's emotions through expressive
contents, e.g. behavior models of acting virtual characters, engines for
game programming, planning formalisms in interactive storytelling,
learning techniques for music composition and performance.
The goal of the Special Track on "AI and Expressive Media" is
to provide a definition of the Expressive Media in extensional terms
(through reworked examples of applications), to improve the general
awareness of the AI techniques that are mostly employed (together with
revealing new interesting problems to be modeled), to stimulate the
sharing of AI approaches among researchers in different communication
forms.
Researchers, developers and practitioners working in artificial
intelligence, human sciences, media studies, music, art and design, and
other related areas, are invited to submit their works. Particular
attention to cross-fertilization is solicited; each paper will also be
reviewed by one non-expert of some particular communication form in
order to improve the circulation of ideas.
The program will include presentation of the selected papers and
posters, one invited talk and a final panel, and will occupy one full
day of the Congress in parallel with the other Special Tracks.

International IEEE Workshop on
Interdisciplinary Aspects of Coordination
Applied to Pervasive Environments: Models and Applications (CoMA)
Web: http://mowi.salzburgresearch.at/wetice
At the 16th IEEE International Workshops on Enabling Technologies:
Infrastructures for Collaborative Enterprises (WETICE)
Web: http://www.wetice.org
June 18-20, 2007
Institut National des Telecommunications INT, Paris, France
========================================================================
WORKSHOP INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES
====================================
Coordination is significantly responsible for the effectiveness,
performance and quality of complex systems and as a concept it is not
restricted to computer-based systems. The concept is cross-sectional and
a great impact may be reached in different application areas if
effective methods and models can be designed, implemented, validated,
and deployed. Coordination, moreover, is an essential prerequisite for
collaborative and telecooperative applications, which are of prime
interest to the WETICE series.
The CoMA workshop aims at the interdisciplinary aspects of coordination
in general, and examines their application to ubiquitous and pervasive
environments in particular. The overall goal is to support the users'
collaborative intentions in such environments as effectively,
imperceptibly, and unobtrusively as possible.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together on the one hand,
scientists who are either conducting research directly on pervasive
computing systems, coordination science, or indirectly in related fields
such as artificial intelligence, collaborative systems, CSCW, systems
research, complexity management, or process management. On the other
hand, this workshop particularly welcomes the contributions of
researchers and/or practitioners who concentrate on concrete
applications where a combination of coordination and pervasive systems
appears to be beneficial, such as emergency management or health care
systems, and can report on that.
The workshop particularly focuses on discussions about coordination and
pervasiveness, the current state of research efforts, and practical
experiences with the clear vision of generating mutual benefits for the
participants. To support this, opportunities for showcases,
demonstrations, and in-depth discussions will be provided. Eventually,
interdisciplinary and joint efforts shall be fostered and future
co-operations on research activities shall be triggered.
TOPICS AND APPLICATIONS
=======================
All topics related to the interdisciplinary aspects of coordination are
welcome as soon as these are in some way relevant for or applicable to
ubiquitous and pervasive systems. The following incomprehensive listing
gives examples of such potential topics:
* Theoretical coordination models and foundations for pervasive systems
* Coordination middleware (such as space- or event-based approaches)
* Coordination mechanisms in service-oriented architectures
* Distributed and P2P-based coordination
* Coordination in embedded and real-time systems
* Coordination issues in sensor networks
* Coordination dependent on context
* Strategies to cope with heterogeneity, dynamics, mobility and/or
pervasiveness
* Distributed constraint satisfaction
* Location-based coordination models
* Coordination in multi-agent systems
* Improved intuitive usage through integrated coordination
* Case studies, evaluations and assessments about the benefits of
coordination
* Interdisciplinary aspects of coordination
Coordination and contained topics are multidisciplinary and, hence, can
be viewed as orthogonal to a multitude of pervasive application areas
which shall be explored in this workshop, too. Examples include but are
not limited to:
# Coordinative aspects in collaborative applications like CSCW,
groupware, or games
# Emergency management systems
# Health care systems
# Decision-support systems
# Geo-Collaboration
# Operations research
# Complexity-, constraint-, conflict-, and workflow management
# Special-purpose coordination languages and tools

*** CALL FOR PAPERS ***
4th High-End Visualization Workshop
University Center Obergurgl, Tyrol, Austria
17.06. - 22.06.2007
http://www.vizworkshop.at/
Open issues in visualization with special concentration on applications
in astrophysics, numerical relativity, computational fluid dynamics and
high-performance computing.
This year's feature:
Visualization of Non-Trivial Data Structures
With the advancement of numerical simulations beyond uniform grids,
visualization methods are also challenged to cope with the more complex
data structures. We intend to discuss which data structures are out there
(e.g., amr, multiblock, multipatches), what visualization methods already
exist, and what the highest demands and needs for yet unsolved issues are.
Focus is intended to be on topological issues of complex data sets, leading
to possible overlap among feature extraction, numerical algorithms and
access methods to topologically non-trivial data itself.
This workshop is inter-disciplinary by nature, and as every year we also
encourage contributions that are outside the focus topic.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
* Visualization concepts for non-trivial spacetimes
* Generic data structures for visualization purposes
* Applicability of GPU's, emerging hardware like cell processors
or physics cards
* Application areas, in particular interdisciplinary work with
domain experts
* Numerical models on adaptive meshes or multiblocks and resulting
specific demands for visualization
* Existing visualization frameworks (e.g., VTK, Amira, Chombovis) and
their support for such data
* Extending commonly used visualization techniques such as isosurfaces
and raycasting to cover complex data structures
* Demands and constraints on parallel rendering strategies and grid-based
environments from non-regular domain decomposition, including (but not
limited to) workflow managements, brokering, performance-modeling etc.
* Utilizing modern rendering, display and interaction device, e.g.
high-resolution, high-dynamic range, multitiled screens, for examining
complex data structures
* Grid technologies and parallelization techniques

The First International Workshop on Process-Aware Information Systems: http://ctrl.kyonggi.ac.kr/~pais2007
Call For Paper
In recent, the concept of process is becoming one of the hottest issues in the web-age enterprise information technology arena; consequently process-aware information systems (PAIS) have been rapidly spreading their applications over the various industry domains. These phenomena come from the strong belief that the process aware information systems help out for large organizations to improve the way of their business operations and managements; besides their effectiveness has come under our observation in numerous deployments. Nevertheless, many of the PAIS products have been experienced being ineffective in some serious applications due to the lack of necessity in functional capability, architectural extensibility and agility for the new requirements coping with many advanced features and functionalities. Therefore, through this workshop, we will explore the process-aware information systems domain and look for feasible solutions for giving feedbacks to those PAIS products suffering from the serious functional and architectural problems.
Topics
Here, we would define the process-aware information systems as follows: Process Aware Information Systems facilitate the design, execution, and coordination of structured work processes by groups of people. So, PAIS systems include workflow systems, business process management systems, software engineering systems, web services systems, and B2B network systems. Finally, the theme of the workshop will be "Process-Aware Information Systems: Bridging People and Software through Process Technology," and the workshop will be looking for research and industrial papers covering theories, concepts and technologies of PAIS with respect to the following topics:

Call for Papers
SIGKDD Explorations Special Issue on Data Mining for Health Informatics
Guest editors
Raymond Ng, University of British Columbia, rng(a)cs.ubc.ca
Jian Pei, Simon Fraser University, jpei(a)cs.sfu.ca
Unlike in bioinformatics where the focus is on the biology within a
cell in living organisms, the focus of health informatics is on human
tissues, organs and specific medical conditions. It is concerned with
patients' medical records and clinical data. Moreoever, one of the key
directions of medical research for the next decade is personalized
medicine. This is partly made feasible by recent advances of high
throughput biotechnologies, such as comparative genome hybridization
arrays, microarrays and mass spectrometry for proteomics and
metabolomics.
In this special issue of SIGKDD Explorations, we solicit papers on
health informatics research which requires mining of large amounts of
data - clinical, DNA copy number, gene expression, protein expression
and/or metabolonomics data. The following is a non-exhaustive list of
possible topics:
- feature selection for biomarker identification
- cross-platform combinatorial mining of genomics features
- mining transcription factor binding sites
- prediction models of tumor/disease development
- correlation mining of clinic data and genomic data
- mining proteomics and/or metabolomics data
- data mining for personalized medicine
- modeling signalling networks
- temporal and spatial mining of clinic data including medical images
Each paper must dedicate a significant portion of the paper (e.g., no
less than 25%) describing the health problem being studied. And in
light of the 2003 SIGKDD Explorations special issue on microarray data
mining, papers which focus solely on microarray data should include
new developments since 2003.
Schedule
- Deadline for submissions: March 30
- Notifications: April 30
- Camera-ready due: May 15
- Final issue handed to the editors: June 1
Submissions
All submissions should be made in PDF file following the SIGKDD
Explorations format as shown in the templates and samples on the
SIGKDD Explorations Web site.
Submissions should be made via email to the co-guest editors: Dr.
Raymond Ng (rng(a)cs.ubc.ca) and Dr. Jian Pei (jpei(a)cs.sfu.ca).
Potential contributors are welcome to discuss their intentions and
interest with the co-guest editors.
