AIMS AND SCOPE
Cognitive Informatics (CI) is a cutting-edge and multidisciplinary
research area that tackles the fundamental problems shared by modern
informatics, computation, software engineering, AI, cybernetics,
cognitive science, neuropsychology, medical science, systems science,
philosophy, linguistics, economics, management science, and life
sciences. CI is the transdisciplinary study into the internal
information
processing mechanisms and processes of the Natural Intelligence (NI) -
human brains and minds - and their engineering applications in
computing,
ICT, and healthcare industries.
The International Journal of Cognitive Informatics and Natural
Intelligence (IJCiNi) encourages submissions that transcends
disciplinary
boundaries, and is devoted to rapid publication of high quality papers.
The themes of IJCiNi are Natural Intelligence, Autonomic Computing, and
Neuroinformatics. IJCiNi is expected to provide the first forum and
platform in the world for researchers, practitioners, and graduate
students
to investigate cognitive mechanisms and processes of human information
processing, and to stimulate the transdisciplinary effort on cognitive
informatics and natural intelligent research and engineering
applications.
COVERAGE
Original papers are invited from multidisciplinary perspectives on
subject
areas including, but not limited to, the following areas on Natural
Intelligence (NI),Autonomic Computing (AC) and Neuroinformatics (NeI).
Details may be found at: http://www.enel.ucalgary.ca/IJCINI/
PAPER SUBMISSION
IJCiNi publishes regular papers, technical correspondences, case
studies,
letters to the editor, book reviews, conference reports, and special
issues.
The Guidelines for Authors provided in the IJCiNi website should be
followed in submission. An electronic copy of papers in MS Word format
in
English should be sent to the Editor-In-Chief with a cover letter that
provides detailed information of author(s). Regular papers should be
around
15 - 25 double spaced pages in length including figures and tables.
Other
categories of papers may be within 10 - 15 double spaced pages. A
rigorous
review process is adopted for double-blind reviews of all submissions
by 3 to 4 reviewers from the editorial board and independent referees.
IJCiNi is published quarterly by Idea Group Inc, publisher of "Idea
Group
Publishing," "Information Science Publishing," "IRM Press," "Cybertech
Publishing," and "Idea Group Reference" imprints.
The inaugural issue of IJCiNi is due for publication in January 2007.
Submissions intended for the inaugural issue should be received before
May 1, 2006.

Computing systems including hardware, software, communication
and networks are growing with ever increasing scale and
heterogeneity, and becoming overly complex. Such the complexity
is getting more critical along with ubiquitous permeation of
embedded devices and other pervasive systems. To cope with the
growing and ubiquitous complexity, autonomic computing focuses
on self-manageable computing and communication systems that
perform self-awareness, self-configuration, self-optimization,
self-healing, self-protection and other self-ware operations to
the maximum extent possible without human intervention or guidance.
Any autonomic system must be trustworthy to avoid the risk of
losing control and retain confidence that the system will not fail.
Trust and/or distrust relationships in the Internet and pervasive
infrastructure based global computing exist universally in the
course of dynamic interaction and cooperation of various users,
systems and services. Trusted computing targets computing and
communication systems as well as services that are available,
predictable, traceable, controllable, assessable, sustainable,
dependable, persist-able, security/privacy protect-able, etc.
A series of grand challenges exist to achieve practical
self-manageable autonomic systems with truly trustworthy services.

in these challenging areas and includes all technical aspects
related to autonomic and trusted computing and communication.
ATC-06 as a conference comes out of the First Int'l Workshop on

Computing systems including hardware, software, communication
and networks are growing with ever increasing scale and
heterogeneity, and becoming overly complex. Such the complexity
is getting more critical along with ubiquitous permeation of
embedded devices and other pervasive systems. To cope with the
growing and ubiquitous complexity, autonomic computing focuses
on self-manageable computing and communication systems that
perform self-awareness, self-configuration, self-optimization,
self-healing, self-protection and other self-ware operations to
the maximum extent possible without human intervention or guidance.
Any autonomic system must be trustworthy to avoid the risk of
losing control and retain confidence that the system will not fail.
Trust and/or distrust relationships in the Internet and pervasive
infrastructure based global computing exist universally in the
course of dynamic interaction and cooperation of various users,
systems and services. Trusted computing targets computing and

Call for paper of the Special Session on
Dynamic Workflow Management
2006 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics
Oct. 8 - Oct. 11, 2006. Taipei, Taiwan
http://ins.cn.nctu.edu.tw/smc2006/
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today’s business organizations are characterized by global, dynamic,
uncertain and error-prone environments. In order to compete in such
contexts, enterprises need to effectively stay adaptable to
environmental and internal changes, constantly reconsider and optimize
business processes, and rapidly develop new services and products to
support evolving business. The adaptability in all aspects of workflow
management (such as modeling, validation, and execution) becomes of a
paramount importance. The research on workflow management has been
around for a couple of decades, and many approaches and tools have been
developed and gained certain range of practical applications. However,
how to dynamically assess the constantly changing conditions and adapt
workflows accordingly still remain as huge challenges in both academic
and industry worlds.
As workflow systems currently provide little support for such
challenges, the goal of this special session is to provide researchers
with an opportunity to discuss how workflow systems can better deal with
these issues. We expect to draw together help identify the breadth of
current work, commonalities, gaps, potential collaborations and future
research directions. Relevant topics include but not limit to:
• Dynamic workflow modeling, verification and assessment
• Infrastructures for dynamically modifiable process models
• Inter-organizational dynamic workflows
• Formal methods in dynamic workflows
• Methodologies for workflow management
• Tool development and integration
• Workflow management case study
• Dynamic workflow patterns

Minisymposium on
Novel Data Formats and Algorithms
for Dense Linear Algebra Computations
Abstract: Recently, recursion was introduced into the area of Dense Linear
Algebra with the intent of producing new algorithms as well as improving
its existing algorithms. Recursion, via the divide-and-conquer paradigm,
introduced variable blocking to complement the standard fixed block
algorithms. In particular, new data structures for dense linear algebra
became an active research area. This Mini-Symposium will focus on both new
data structures and/or new or existing algorithms for high performing
dense linear algebra algorithms.
To be held at the
PARA 2006 WORKSHOP ON STATE-OF-THE-ART
IN SCIENTIFIC AND PARALLEL COMPUTING
Umea, Sweden June 18-21 2006
http://www.hpc2n.umu.se/para06/
A limited number of contributed, 20 minute talks will be selected for this
minisymposium. An extended abstract consisting of a pdf-file of at most 4
pages (including references) formatted according to the LNCS rules should
be sent before February 15, 2006. Notice that the extended abstract should
be formatted as a regular paper and also include a short abstract of at
most 150 words. The short abstract must also be submitted as plain text
(allowing necessary LaTeX symbols). The acceptance of the extended
abstract will be send no later than March 15, 2006.
Extended abstracts of accepted submissions will be provided electronically
and a booklet of the short abstracts will be handed out at PARA'06.
After the workshop, full original papers of at most 10 pages will be
reviewed for publication in the workshop proceedings to be published in
the Springer series Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). The full
