0.84 mixin behaviour changed ??

Hi ! I strongly suspect that in0.84 version, the mixin process is changed, which brings some incompatibilities. Please consider this simple example Class A Class B A instproc init {args} { [self] instvar C [self] mixin B set C(Aelement) 1 } B instproc init {args} { [self] instvar C set C(Belement) 1 } A instproc foo {args} { puts "[self] A bar" } B instproc foo {args} { puts "[self] B bar" } The 0.83 behaviour... % A a % a foo ::a B bar % a array get C Belement 1 Aelement 1 The 0.84 behaviour % A a % a foo ::a B bar % a array get C Aelement 1 WHERE is the "Belement" ?????? Simple example: TicTacToe

Hello all. I was having some trouble understanding basic things about XOTcl. I found an old TicTacToe program written in OTcl (by Gustaf?) and translated it so it would run on Tk rather than Mofe. It's self-contained, involves several cooperating objects, and has a simple domain. Maybe some other beginner would find going through it useful. I have attached the script to this mail message. Announcing XOTcl 0.84. ********************** WHAT IS XOTCL? XOTcl is object-oriented extension of Tcl that was derived from OTcl. In short, XOTcl tries to provide a highly flexible, reflective, component-based, and object-oriented environment. It integrates language support for high level concepts which are not found in other languages, with reasonable performance. It prevails the Tcl programming style and the dynamic/introspective nature of the language, rather than introducing other language's styles and rigidness (such as C++) into Tcl. RECENT CHANGES IN VERSION 0.84 The most important changes relative to 0.83 are: - Object recreation scheme (instead of destroying object on overwrites; the semantics of recreation can be configured now). - Enhanced destroy and create logic (much more customizable). - Heavily improved compilation support for Windows versions + full test suite running on Win with nmake. - Improved test suite. - XOTcl wrapper for various persistent stores, including Gdbm, Sdbm, TextFile, Mem. These are transparently used for object persistence. - All stores have a new interface resembling the interface to (non-persistent) objects (e.g. set-method writes an entry into the persistent store, unset deletes it from there, etc.). - New static and dynamic analyzer packages for @ metadata and self-documentation facility. - Hierarchical package naming, like xotcl::store::gdbm, xotcl::comm::httpAccess, ... - New package for serialization of workspace contents (either whole workspace, or certain classes/objects) to Tcl file. - Moved callstack information (calledproc, callingproc, callingobject, etc.) into ``self'' command (WARNING: potential incompatibility esp. for filters). - New callstack information ``self next''. - Search process for XOTcl packages improved (see ChangeLog file). - ::xotcl namespace for runtime information. - htmllib by Antti Salonen: HTML Builder for HTML documents. - XOTcl is now thread-savvy. It can be used in Tcl8.3.2+ with tclthread2.2+ extension w/o modifications. However, at the moment, interp memory is freed, when the thread exists, not when the interp is deleted (due to Tcl lacking a proper hook). Xotcl on Windows

Hallo, Xotcl on Linux runs great so far, but I have problems with installing it on my Windows machine (NT4.0, SP 6a). Though earlier postings helped a lot (the "libtclgdbm.dll"-problem that Mr LeBlanc posted in January), the example "Counter.xotcl" still doesn´t work. After starting the xotcl HTTP server, I get the message "couldn´t find procedure Tclgdbm_Init". I looked into the sources but couldn´t find it either. Does anybody know a solution to this? Multithreading, memory usage, etc.

Hi Xotcl collegues ! My name is Zoran Vasiljevic. Uwe and Gustaf already know me, as I've helped them for rolling-out the 0.83 version. I did some multithreading-related fixes and Purify tests. I've been using Xotcl in an multithreading environment, i.e. within the AOLserver Web server, version 3.2. I did have to make certain modifications to the server in order to intergrate Xotcl there, but that was not so difficult. After some (deployment) time I've noticed certain memory (well, not exactly leaks, rather uncontrolled) consumptions which I was not able to track-down with Purify. I've invested some days investigating this and have found the cause of problems. I also have the needed changes to xotcl.c to correct this behaviour. My question is: when is the next Xotcl version planned and to whom should I send the changes so they get integrated into the main distro ? Uwe ? Gustaf ? Cheer's Zoran Vasiljevic Archiware

Hello I learn Xotcl in my study time. A was a student of prof. Neumann. Now I work with Smalltalk. After I have get some experience with Smalltalk environments I noticed that xotcl is ideal to build such developing systems as Smalltalk have. It means it is dynamically and has introspection functionality. I wrote the first Browsers now. It is the first attempt but it can be already used for developing (or browsing Xotcl) I named the application XotclIDE the tar archive can be downloaded from http://www.xdobry.de/xotclIDE I am interested in suggestion for next developing. Share your experience with xotclIDE On my site are also another xotcl development (Database application xdobry) with such goodies as - factory classes for building gui from XML - Xotcl database interface to mysql, postgres - GUI builder (yes with drag and drop) - Xotcl wrapper library for tk,tix I plan to add it (after refactoring) to xotclIDE ========================================= Artur Trzewik http://www.xdobry.de =========================================

problem with filter & destroy

So the filter is having some effect on how destroy is handled. Automatic caching / XOTcl @ Wiki

I built a small class called Cacheable that can be joined with other classes and objects. With it you can specify certain methods from which the returned result should be cached (and for how long). You can also specify invalidation methods which cause the object's cache to be empties. All this happens transparently from the methods' point of view. Problem with info args
