XotclIDE announce

Hallo There are new Version 0.15 of xotclIDE on my site http://www.xdobry/xotclIDE New futures: 1. databased control version system. All changes on the xotcl source are stored persistent to database on the fly. Also CompLoader to load applications from database. (Currently only mysql are tested) You can return to every development state in the past, manage editions and versions of components, classes, objects and methods 2. improved object inspector. To see and invoke mixins methods 3. simply configuration managment browser. To handle components sets and make a xotcl distributions of your applications 4. improved component modell (currently only better tcl packages) to handle dependiences 5. more documentation and simple application There can be many reasonable tools for xotclIDE. I thing xotclIDE should be rather a set of tools than one application. If you have any usefull tools for xotcl (tracker, profiler, optimizer, debugger) send them to me. abstract method difference 0.83->0.84

Just wanted to note a change I noticed from 0.83->0.84 which doesn't seem to be in the changes file? It's to do with abstract methods and code like the following: Class Foo Foo abstract instproc blah {} Class Bar -superclass Foo Bar instproc instproc blah { puts "blah" next } With 0.83 this worked but it gives an error about an abstract method being called in 0.84. The reason the "next" is there in the first place is basically because if someone decides to add a class to the chain after Bar then the "next" commands will already be in place. Method inheritance on class side

Hallo By building some Xotcl Class System I have following problem. Consider the example % Class A A % A proc test {} { puts "method test" } % Class B -superclass A B % B test test % I would expect by calling B test to invoke A proc test and not to create new instance of B. I know this bahavior from Smalltalk. It is very usefull for building special creating method on class side or some method that not need a instance For Example (getter for a system constant) Class A A proc getSystemPath {} { return \usr } Class B -superclass A B proc getConfigFile {} { return [file join [[self] getSystemPath] System.cfg] } This would create new Instance of B with name getSystemPath Now I have to write: B proc getConfigFile {} { return [file join [A getSystemPath] System.cfg] } or implement proc search on class side by myself This was rather simple example but there are many examples in smalltalk libraries for reasonable use of this bahavior. Is there a chance to change it in next version? Hallo Liste! Kann mir jemand erklären, wie ich mir die Entwicklungsumgebung auf einem Windows-Rechner einrichte, welche Versionen und Files ich brauche usw. Ich habe mir tcl832.zip und xotcl-0-84-bin-win32.zip geholt, da entpackt er dann zwar wie wild, aber es gibt keine install- oder setup-Files und ich weiß eigentlich nicht, was ich damit anfangen soll. Da ich aber kaum Zeit habe, mich ins Labor zu setzen, wäre eine Entwicklungsumgebung am Rechner zu Hause bzw. im Büro sehr wichtig! LG Margit de Toma
