CALL FOR PAPERS
for the workshop "Towards a research agenda for Gameful Creativity" in conjunction with the ACM conference Designing Interactive Systems (DIS'19) and Creativity an Cognition 2019 (C&C'19)

***** SUBMISSION DEADLINE: MAY 17, 2019 *****

Due to globalization and our society relying on technology more than ever, creativity and creative thinking have become a highly valued resource. Often defined as the capacity to cope with advances, dynamic changes and opportunities, creativity is understood as an ability to produce something new and meaningful. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in fostering creative potential through game-related activities. While there are first encouraging results on video game play encouraging creative thinking, many aspects and details still require further exploration.
This workshop aims to bring together both researchers and practitioners interested in the application of gamefulness to enhance creative thinking. In the workshop we will review previous work in the field, identify and discuss avenues for future research as well as brainstorm methods to explore the relationship between gamefulness and creativity.
Our objective is for this workshop to serve as a think tank and forum from which a research agenda as well as a vibrant community active in the field of gameful creativity will emerge. While we do not want to restrict the scope of the workshop, we plan to cover research avenues for the potential application of gamification to promote creative thinking in various contexts (e.g. collaborative ideation, edutainment), the effect of games on creativity and in particular on creative abilities as well as tailoring those gameful interventions to individual preferences (i.e. personalization).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WORKSHOP STRUCTURE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This workshop focuses on a cross-disciplinary exchange of experience, insights and ideas. To promote an engaging exchange and help build a research agenda, the workshop will include participatory and hands-on activities such as group-based mapping exercises, a reflection and framing session as well as a gameful ideation exercise illustrating the potential of combining gamefulness and creativity.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HOW TO PARTICIPATE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We invite all interested to submit a 2-4 page position paper in the SIGCHI Extended Abstract format. This position paper should either a) describe previous work in the intersection of gamefulness and creativity (e.g empirical or theoretical), b) contain a proposal on what aspects should be explored in the future (e.g. game genre, methods) or c) previous work outside the field of gameful creativity analyzed under the lens of how those concepts could inspire gameful creativity. At least one author of each accepted paper must register and attend the workshop plus at least one day of the conference. Position papers will be evaluated based on relevance to the workshop themes and potential to spark discussion. Please send your submission before May 17th 2019 via email to thiel@cs.au.dk
Depending on space availability, other interested attendees of the DIS and C&C conference without a position paper will also be welcome to join the workshop.
