CALL FOR PAPERS
WebAndTheCity: 8th International Smart City Workshop – The Web and Smart
Cities
In conjunction with The Web Conference (WWW’22): 32nd World Wide Web
International Conference, Lyon, France, April 25-29, 2022
http://webandthecity.home.blog/
Important Dates
Extended Submissions due: Feb. 03, 2022 (23:59 Anywhere on Earth (AoE)
time zone)
Notification of Acceptance: March 03, 2022
Camera-ready version due: March 10, 2022
Workshop authors’ early registration: March 03, 2022
Workshop day: April 25, 2022
Workshop Objective
This is the 8th edition of the workshop series with the label “Web
Applications and Smart Cities” (previous name: AW4City), which started
back in Florence in 2015 and kept on taking place every year in
conjunction with the WWW conference series. Last year the workshop was
in Ljublanja during The Web Conference 2021. The workshop series aim to
investigate the role of the Web and of Web applications in smart city
growth.
This year, the workshop focuses on the role of the web in smart environment.
In the era of cities and under the UN 2030 Agenda and the European Green
deal for sustainable growth, cities appear to play crucial role in
securing humanity against environmental threats and generate sustainable
and circular cities. In this regard, cities attempt to improve their
forms (e.g., more compact, and eco-friendlier) and performance to become
friendlier and able to host their increasing populations. Additionally,
new types of business appear (e.g., that utilize IoT and data, manage
e-waste and recycle), while the co-existence of autonomous things and
people generate another challenge that cities have been started phasing.
Τhis workshop aims to demonstrate how the web (web applications Apps and
Web intelligence) can serve smart environment in general.
WebAndTheCity aims at gathering researchers from the fields of SC that
are related to this year’s conference topics, to think about the
obstacles that hurdle the leveraging of understanding and capturing of
SC trends with regard to the WWW role (web-based, Apps, platforms and
web intelligence).
Theoretical concepts, empirical evidence and selected case studies from
leading scholars and practitioners in the field showing the “big
picture” of smart cities and urban areas will be examined in this workshop.
WebAndTheCity is timely since the SC emerges rapidly with the
contribution of all the scientific fields, while ISO37120 and ISO37122
attempt to certify and measure the performance of SC services. Last but
not least, customer satisfaction from SC services is being measured
real-time with corresponding data collection. All these issues are being
supported by data, the Web, Apps and recently with AI and it is
important to focus on future achievements. Additionally, an increasing
criticism is that smart city represents an ambiguous urban utopia, which
is supported by the partnership of local governments with big
technological vendors. Articles can deliver a clearer view of smart city
reality, while innovative applications can strengthen the existence of
opportunities for new entrants in the SC market.
We target researchers from both industry and academia to join forces in
this exciting area. We intend to discuss the recent and significant
developments in the general areas of smart cities and web applications
and to promote cross-fertilization of techniques. In particular, we aim
at identifying trends and respective applications in smart cities; the
potential impact of smart city in web applications; techniques from
end-to-end solutions’ or apps’ development that will enable researchers
to understand the dynamic phenomena in smart cities, as well as specify
important directions for the research communities. Standards for web
applications’ development in smart cities is interesting for several
areas such as sustainability, crisis management, marketing, security,
and interoperability. To address the above mentioned aspects, we solicit
the following topics (but not limited to):
• Enhancing community engagement in environmental awareness and
circularity with Web Applications, mobile Apps and Services;
• Apps and services that support community preparation to climate
change, adaptation, mobility, sharing, crowd-sourcing etc. (especially
during an environmental crisis);
• Smart City platforms (e.g. environment; waste and water management;
parking; traffic etc.);
• Smart and Self evolving services (e.g. self-threat analysisl
self-responsive government services etc.);
• City metabolism and the role of the web;
• Practices of Web applications, Apps and AI in smart cities;
• Theoretical foundations on Smart City applications and standards;
• Creative partnerships, creative industries and industry 4.0 in Smart
City with a focus on application development and AI (Internet Economics
and Monetization);
• Pervasive Web for Smart City emerging topics (i.e., user behavior
analytics, energy, water, waste, transportation etc.)
• The role of city stakeholders for smart city applications development
and standardization (i.e., promotion push, start-ups, open data);
• Web Infrastructure and AI service standardization;
• The role of standards on smart city data mining;
• Smart city information quality and evolution in social content;
• Ensuring security and privacy in Smart Environment: the role of web
applications and Apps.

###APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTINGS###
INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON KNOWLEDGE GRAPH GENERATION FROM TEXT (TEXT2KG)
KNOWLEDGE GRAPH GENERATION
Knowledge Graphs are getting traction in both academia and in the
industry as one of the key elements of AI applications. They are being
recognized as an important and essential resource in many downstream
tasks such as question answering, recommendation, personal assistants,
business analytics, business automation, etc. Even though there are
large knowledge graphs built with crowdsourcing such as Wikidata or
using semi-structured data such as DBpedia or Yago or from structured
data such as relational databases, building knowledge graphs from text
corpora still remains an open challenge.
The workshop welcomes a broad range of papers including full research
papers, negative results, position papers, dataset, and system demos
examining the wide range of issues and processes related to knowledge
graphs generation from text corpora including, but not limited to entity
linking, relation extraction, knowledge representation, and Semantic
Web. Papers on resources (methods, tools, benchmarks, libraries,
datasets) are also welcomed.
One best paper will be selected for a prize with an industrial sponsor.
*Why attend the Text2KG Workshop?*
This workshop aims to bring together researchers from multiple focus
areas such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), Entity Linking (EL),
Relation Extraction (RE), Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KRR),
Deep Learning (DL), Knowledge Base Construction (KBC), Semantic Web,
Linked Data, and other related fields to foster a discussion and enhance
the state-of-the-art in knowledge graph generation from text.
The participants will find opportunities to present and hear about other
emerging research and applications, to exchange ideas and experiences,
and to identify new opportunities for collaborations across disciplines.
We plan to involve the many prominent research groups in the Semantic
Web community which in the last years focused on the generation of
knowledge graphs from textual sources in different fields, such as
research data (ORKG, AI-KG, Nanopublications), question answering
(ParaQA, NSQA), common sense (CSKG), automotive (CoSI, ASKG), biomedical
(Hetionet), and many others.
THEMES & TOPICS
We are interested in (including but not limited to) the following themes
and topics that study the generation of Knowledge Graphs from text,
based on quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods.
Theme and Topics
* Approaches for generating Knowledge Graphs from text
* Ontologies for representing provenance/metadata of generated
Knowledge Graphs
* Benchmarks for KG generation from text
* Evaluation methods for KGs generated from text

Webinar & Call for Model-Checking Community Feedback
"Developing an Open-Source, State-of-the-Art Symbolic Model-Checking
Framework for the Model-Checking Research Community"
https://modelchecker.temporallogic.org
*********************************************************************
Research Goal:
---------------
This is an NSF (U.S. National Science Foundation)-funded effort to
develop an open-source, state-of-the-art symbolic model-checking
framework for the international model-checking research community. Our
goal is to fill the current gap in model checking research platforms:
building a freely-available, open-source, scalable model checking
infrastructure that accepts expressive models and efficiently interfaces
with the currently-maintained state-of-the-art back-end algorithms to
provide an extensible research and verification tool. We will create a
community resource with a well-documented intermediate representation to
enable extensibility, and a web portal, facilitating new modeling
languages and back-end algorithmic advances. To add new modeling
languages or algorithms, researchers need only to develop a translator
to/from the new intermediate language, and will then be able to
integrate each advance with the full state-of-the-art in model checking.
Project Status:
----------------
We have developed a candidate intermediate representation for symbolic
model checking and revised it via feedback from a Technical Advisory
Board. We are now ready for wider community feedback to fuel our next
round of revisions and developments.
Visit our project website for more details, presentation slides, and
more opportunities to interact, including providing comments, joining
our mailing list, registering for future webinars, and suggesting names
for the new framework.
Webinar:
--------
Our first workshop will be held online via zoom:
15 February 2022
1:00pm-3:00pm US-CST (GMT-6)
Registration is at: https://modelchecker.temporallogic.org
Agenda:
15 minutes: Project overview and introduction
45 minutes: Candidate intermediate representation details
60 minutes: Moderated community feedback and questions
*** Additional webinars will be held to accommodate other time-zones;
please register for a future workshop on the website and provide your
timezone when asked.

*Beschreibung*
Ein Digital Business Ecosystem ist ein Netzwerk von Organisationen wie
Produzenten, Lieferanten, Distributoren, Kunden, Wettbewerber,
Aspekte (u.a. Informatik, Management & Ökonomie,
Ingenieurwissenschaften).

*Description*
A Digital Business Ecosystem is a network of organizations such as
producers, suppliers, distributors, customers, competitors, government
agencies, etc. that together design, deliver, and use a particular
product or service in an (at least partially) digital environment. In
analogy to biological ecosystems, the term business ecosystem thereby
describes that the actors are interdependent and the system is
constantly changing due to the entry and exit of actors. Actors
influence each other by both cooperating to achieve common goals and
competing for scarce resources.
Therefore, the aim of this workshop is to present and discuss current
research results as well as innovative concepts from practice on Digital
Business Ecosystems. Interdisciplinary aspects (including computer
science, management & economics, engineering) are especially important.
This interdisciplinary approach adequately captures Digital Business
Ecosystems with their complex structure, processes and societal
challenges from different perspectives.
The workshop has three sessions which can be joined separately. After
short keynote speeches, the topics will be deepened interactively with
the participants.

Subject: [AISWorld] Call for Papers: Blockchain and FinTech @ PACIS 2022
Date: Tue, 1 Feb 2022 06:09:14 +0000
From: Horst Treiblmaier <Horst.Treiblmaier(a)modul.ac.at>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Dear Colleagues
We cordially invite you to consider our PACIS track to submit your work
on Blockchain and Fintech.
Track 2: Blockchain and Fintech
PACIS-25 | July 5 – 9, 2022 | Taipei/Sydney |
https://pacis2022.aisconferences.org/submissions/track-descriptions/
Paper Submission Deadline: March 1, 2022, 23:59 GMT+8 (Taipei Standard Time)
Over the past decade, we witnessed a significant ascent of the fintech
market. Reports estimate that global venture capital investments
skyrocketed from USD $1.8 to $30.8 billion between 2011 and 2018 (Galvin
et al., 2018). Simultaneously, blockchain has emerged as a major
contentious technology with arguably substantial socio-economic
transformational power (Pedersen et al., 2019). Despite its widespread
applicability (e.g., supply chain, auditory purposes), the impact of
blockchain has been most pervasive in the financial market (Simos & Tan,
2020).
This track invites articles that provide relevant insights for
managerial, strategical or regulatory decision making in fintech and/or
blockchain technologies. We are particularly interested in but not
limited to the intersection of fintech and blockchain technologies. The
track is open to all methodological approaches. We invite both full
research and research-in-progress papers.
Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
*Advancing fintech technologies: robo-advisory, social trading, social
credit scoring, algorithmic trading, mobile payment technologies and
business impacts
*Issues and opportunities of a token economy: regulatory frameworks, new
regulatory challenges with FinTech, (de)centralization, commoditization
of mining hardware, governance mechanisms, tokenized invoices
*Macroeconomic implications of fintech: disintermediation of established
players, the impact of cryptocurrencies, structural changes in the economy
*Leveraging new types of data in the financial market: ethical concerns,
data-driven business models, fraud detection, practical feasibility,
smart trading strategies such as artificial intelligence-driven trading
practices
*Characteristics and implications of P2P lending: ICO, IEO, STO,
crowdfunding
*Integration of fintech into established markets: Matthew effect,
cryptocurrencies as safe havens, blockchain-based settlements
