CALL FOR PAPERS
6th WebAndTheCity – Web Intelligence and Smart Cities
In conjunction with The Web Conference (WWW’20): 30th World Wide Web
International Conference, Taipei, April 21, 2020
http://webandthecity.home.blog/
Important Dates
-------------------------
Submissions due: Jan 20, 2020 (23:59 Anywhere on Earth (AoE) time zone)
Notification of Acceptance: Jan. 31, 2020
Camera-ready version due: Feb. 17, 2020
Workshop authors’ registration and camera-ready papers: Feb. 17, 2020
Workshop day: April 21, 2020
Workshop Objective
----------------------------
This is the 6th edition of the workshop series with the label “Web
Applications and Smart Cities” (previous name: AW4City), which started
back in Florence in 2015 and kept on taking place every year in
conjunction with the WWW conference series. Last year the workshop was
in San Francisco during The Web Conference 2019. The workshop series aim
to investigate the role of the Web and of Web applications in smart city
growth.
This year, the workshop changes its label to “WebAndTheCity” and expands
its scope beyond typical web applications and Apps, with the inclusion
of Web Intelligence that enables self-evolving smart services in SC:
services that vary from typical government transactions and petitions,
to mobility applications (e.g., parking and route location) and to smart
living apps (e.g., transact with buildings) can utilize machine learning
and data in order to self-evolve, adapt to citizen needs and even
transform to custom and more efficient and effective.
WebAndTheCity aims at gathering researchers from the fields of SC that
are related to this year’s conference topics, to think about the
obstacles that hurdle the leveraging of understanding and capturing of
SC trends with regard to the WWW role (web-based, Apps, platforms and
web intelligence).
Theoretical concepts, empirical evidence and selected case studies from
leading scholars and practitioners in the field showing the “big
picture” of smart cities and urban areas will be examined in this workshop.
WebAndTheCity is timely since the SC emerges rapidly with the
contribution of all the scientific fields, while ISO37120 and ISO37122
attempt to certify and measure the performance of SC services. Last but
not least, customer satisfaction from SC services is being measured
real-time with corresponding data collection. All these issues are being
supported by data, the Web, Apps and recently with AI and it is
important to focus on future achievements. Additionally, an increasing
criticism is that smart city represents an ambiguous urban utopia, which
is supported by the partnership of local governments with big
technological vendors. Articles can deliver a clearer view of smart city
reality, while innovative applications can strengthen the existence of
opportunities for new entrants in the SC market.
We target researchers from both industry and academia to join forces in
this exciting area. We intend to discuss the recent and significant
developments in the general areas of smart cities and web applications
and to promote cross-fertilization of techniques. In particular, we aim
at identifying trends and respective applications in smart cities; the
potential impact of smart city in web applications; techniques from
end-to-end solutions’ or apps’ development that will enable researchers
to understand the dynamic phenomena in smart cities, as well as specify
important directions for the research communities. Standards for web
applications’ development in smart cities is interesting for several
areas such as sustainability, crisis management, marketing, security,
and interoperability. To address the above mentioned aspects, we solicit
the following topics (but not limited to):
• Enhancing citizen and visitor experience with Web Applications and
Services, especially controlled by AI;
• Apps and services that support mobility, sharing, crowd-sourcing etc.;
• Smart City platforms (e.g. parking; traffic management; environment etc.);
• Smart and Self evolving services (e.g. self-responsive government
services);
• Practices of Web applications, Apps and AI in smart cities;
• Theoretical foundations on Smart City applications and standards;
• Creative partnerships, creative industries and industry 4.0 in Smart
City with a focus on application development and AI (Internet Economics
and Monetization);
• Pervasive Web for Smart City emerging topics (i.e., user behavior
analytics, energy, water, waste, transportation etc.)
• The role of city stakeholders for smart city applications development
and standardization (i.e., promotion push, start-ups, open data);
• Web Infrastructure and AI service standardization;
• The role of standards on smart city data mining;
• Smart city information quality and evolution in social content;
• Ensuring security and privacy in Smart Cities: the role of web
applications and Apps.

Subject: [WI] Second Call for Papers - Understanding UX through
Implicit and Explicit Feedback - Multimodal Technologies and Interaction
[Special Issue]
Date: Fri, 06 Dec 2019 13:11:42 +0000
From: Mark Graus <mp.graus(a)maastrichtuniversity.nl>
Reply-To: Mark Graus <mp.graus(a)maastrichtuniversity.nl>
To: wi(a)aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de
* Please forward to anyone who might be interested *
* Apologies for cross-posting. *
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In collaboration with the MDPI journal "Multimodal Technologies and
Interaction", we are bringing researchers together to contribute to a
Special Issue on:
*Understanding UX through Implicit and Explicit Feedback*
Guest Editors:
Dr. ir. Bruce Ferwerda, Jonkoping University, Jonkoping, Sweden
Dr. ir. Mark Graus, Maastricht University, Maastricht, the Netherlands
https://www.mdpi.com/journal/mti/special_issues/UX_feedback
Submissions are ongoing with the final submission deadline for
manuscripts to be considered on 31 March 2020.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This special issue aims to explore the opportunities and challenges of
combining implicit and explicit feedback to understand and design user
experience (UX) in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
Measuring UX is important to understand how successful applications and
systems are in reaching their goals. In general, there are two main
approaches to measure UX: 1) explicit feedback (i.e., using data
measured through surveys, interviews and focus groups) and 2) implicit
feedback (i.e., using data describing users' observable interaction
behavior measured through, for example, telemetry). Measuring explicit
feedback is costlier, requires user input, and thus relies on smaller
scale studies. However, it allows to gain deeper information and
understanding about the relationship between user characteristics, their
needs and preferences, their behavior and their experience. Although,
implicit feedback can be collected automatically, it allows for limited
understanding of the relationship between user behavior, user traits and
user experience.
Implicit and explicit feedback can be combined to effectively measure
and understand UX factors; implicit feedback can facilitate the breadth
(by quantitatively indicating how designs influence UX) while explicit
feedback can facilitate the depth (by providing insight how user
behavior, user characteristics and user experience are related). The
combination of these two approaches result in an understanding with a
high level of detail with the cost efficiency of quantitative research.
Specific areas in which the combination of implicit and explicit
feedback is valuable is in personalized and adaptive systems: systems
that adapt itself based on users' interaction behavior to match their
preferences or needs. A prominent direction using this approach is the
field of recommender systems in which historical behavioral data
(implicit feedback) is used to alter the order of items in a catalog
(from highest predicted relevance to lowest predicted relevance), with
the goal of helping users to find relevant items more easily or making
them consume more items. In this case, implicit feedback (behavior) is
used to make inferences about concepts that normally can only be
measured through explicit feedback (preferences).
We encourage authors to submit original research articles, case studies,
reviews, theoretical and critical perspectives, and viewpoint articles
within the domain of HCI on topics including but not limited to:
- Deriving metrics for measuring UX from qualitative research
- The interplay between user characteristics/user behavior and UX
- Combining explicit and implicit feedback for UX Research
- Empirical studies incorporating UX factors, user behavior and/or user
characteristics (e.g., A/B testing)
- Explicit and implicit feedback in personalized/adaptive systems
- Implicit feedback for UX design (e.g., data-driven design)
- Explicit feedback for UX design (e.g., theory-driven design)
For more information about the Special Issue, please see:
https://www.mdpi.com/journal/mti/special_issues/UX_feedback
For information on manuscript preparation and related matters, please
see the instructions for authors:
https://www.mdpi.com/journal/mti/instructions
Although the deadline for submission of manuscripts to the Special Issue
is 31 March 2020, papers will be reviewed and published as they are
received. The entire set of invited papers and any others in this domain
will appear at the link indicated.
We are looking forward to your contribution to the Special Issue.

Mini-Track: Exploring Human Cognition Surrounding Artificial
Intelligence Systems
We kindly invite you to submit your manuscript(s) to the mini-track:
Exploring Human Cognition Surrounding Artificial Intelligence Systems.
It's under the Cognitive Research in IS track.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning is
occurring in a wide range of solutions and applications. While
algorithms are necessary for the development of an artificially
intelligent system, they are not sufficient. Understanding human
interaction with the system is the key to develop an AI system that
looks and behaves like humans. There is an enormous potential for
information systems researchers to contribute to this emerging field. To
help increase understanding about this topic, we invite submission of
research studying the cognitive aspects involved in the interaction
between humans and AI systems. We welcome a broad range of empirical and
conceptual work, drawing on a range of research methods, including
qualitative, quantitative, design science research, and other relevant
approaches.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
* The role of humans' cognitive processes in defining user interaction
with AI systems
* The effect of human cognitive processes and cultures on the design of
AI systems
* The formation of emotional attachments toward an AI system
* The association between AI systems on human's cognition and
information processing capability
* Theoretical framework for understanding the interactions and
relationships between human and AI systems
* Ethical issues surrounding the interaction between humans and AI systems
* The role of AI systems in influencing human's performance
* The effect of human factors on machine's cognitive states
* Collaborative decision making between human and machine
* Human-centered design approach to artificial intelligence to enhance
decision-making
* The effect of AI systems on human creativity
* Using AI and machine learning to predict user behaviors
* Fairness, moral judgment, and AI
* The joint impact of humans and AI systems collaboration on job performance

Call for Lightning Talks and Posters
-----------------------------------
Decentralised Web Symposium
Vienna University of Economics and Business
January 17, 2020
-----------------------------------
Abstract
-----------------------------------
Over the last few years the notion of a decentralised Web has emerged:
where individuals and organisations are empowered to control and manage
their digital assets. We are in the process of establishing an
interdisciplinary network of researchers to have a common dialogue on
the technical issues related to this decentralised Web and how these
issues relate to social, economic, and policy aspects. The
Decent(ralised) Web Symposium will serve as the initialisation of our
common activities. As such we would like to invite researchers with an
interest in technologies associated with our concept. In particular
envisage the following (non-exhaustive) list of topics being covered:
* Decentralised infrastructures
* Multi-agent systems
* Collective intelligence
* Blockchains and the Web
* Cyber Physical Social Systems
* Impact on Society, Economics, and Privacy
-----------------------------------
Format
-----------------------------------
The symposium will comprise keynotes and talks from prominent invited
speakers, and will also feature a time slot for 10-12 lightning talks to
allow participants to share their vision, challenges and/or current
work. If you are interested in giving a lightning talk, please submit
title and abstract of your proposal using this form
(https://adecentweb.org/events/decentralised-web-symposium/) before 18th
December 2019 for review by the organising committee. We will send
notifications of decisions on 20th December 2019.

and engage in interdisciplinary discussion. It is this interdisciplinary
focus that allows our attendees to discover new viewpoints they
otherwise would not have discovered in a uni-disciplinary conference.
These new viewpoints become intellectual seeds which, as they slowly
bloom over time, expand their understanding of their own respective
disciplines.
Many of our participants look forward to our conferences every year as
they allow them to publish their papers, share their life's work, create
a network of influential and like-minded colleagues, and expand their
ever-growing understanding of their respective disciplines, as well as
learn about new disciplines. Some testimonials can be read clicking on
the button "TESTIMONIALS" placed at the top of the left column of each
of the conference web sites.
We hope to continue creating and expanding inter-disciplinary networks
while facilitating the ever-growing expansion of each individual
discipline represented at our conferences. We know this is only possible
with contributions from people such as yourself. It is for this reason
that we would greatly appreciate your contribution to the conference.
You are also welcome to forward this message to any appropriate
colleagues and/or groups whose contributions would further promote the
interdisciplinary growth of all the various disciplines represented in
our conferences.
Thank you for your time, and we look forward to your contribution.
Respectfully,
EISTA 2020 Organizing Committee

Subject: [AISWorld] CFP: The 8th Int. Conf. on Future Internet of
Things and Cloud (FiCloud 2020)
Date: Thu, 5 Dec 2019 15:33:39 +0000
From: FiCloud Conference <ficloud.info(a)gmail.com>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
----------------------Call for Papers
------------------------------------------------
The 8th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud
(FiCloud 2020)
24-26 August 2020, Rome, Itlay
http://www.ficloud.org/2020/
Technical co-sponsorship: IEEE-CS TCI
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cloud is a modern computing platform for delivering on-demand computing
services to service consumers over the Internet. Computing services
include, for example, storage, memory, compute power, databases, and
networking among others. Cloud services are generally provided using SaaS
(Software-as-a-Service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) and IaaS
(Infrastructure-as-a-Service). Unlike conventional distributed computing,
cloud offers flexibility, scalability, efficiency and elasticity in service
provisioning.
The Internet of Things (IoT) provides a dynamic and global network
infrastructure which is characterized by intelligent and self configuring
capabilities. IoT is considered as an integral part of the future Internet.
It is based on interoperable communication protocols in order to enable the
interaction and integration of virtual as well as physical Things such as
computers, smart devices, sensors, cars, refrigerators, food packages,
medicines, etc. Things can be seamlessly integrated into the information
network and interaction can be made through the provision of intelligent
interfaces. In not so distant future, IoT will be forcing its way into
every aspect of our lives and technologies including smart homes, smart
cities, environment and nature, green energy, food, medicine, automotive,
aerospace and aviation, telecommunication, and so on.
IoT is generally characterized by real world and small Things, limited
capacity, constrained devices and the consequential issues such as less
reliability, security and privacy. Cloud computing on the other hand deals
mainly with virtual world and has unlimited capabilities in terms of
storage and processing power. Thus cloud and IoT are the main complementary
aspects of the future Internet. IoT can benefit from the unlimited
capabilities and resources of cloud computing. Similarly, cloud can benefit
from IoT by extending its scope to deal with real world things in a more
distributed and dynamic manner.
The theme of this conference is to promote the state of the art in
scientific and practical research of the IoT and cloud computing. It
provides a forum for bringing together researchers and practitioners from
academia, industry, and public sector in an effort to present their
research work and share research and development ideas in the area of IoT
and cloud computing.

Subject: [AISWorld] Using IS for Good Minitrack CFP AMCIS 2020
Date: Thu, 5 Dec 2019 16:44:28 +0000
From: George, Jordana Jeanne <jgeorge(a)mays.tamu.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Using IS for Good Minitrack for AMCIS 2020
Track: Social Inclusion and Socio-Technical Issues
August 12-16, Salt Lake City, Utah, United States
Information systems (IS) have the potential to improve social welfare
through redistribution of power, providing a voice for marginalized
people, improving access to education, and increasing economic
opportunity (George & Leidner, 2019; Lin, et al., 2015; Ortiz et al.,
2019; Silva & Hirschheim, 2007; Vaidya & Myers, 2017). Some development
programs that sought to use IS for a good cause have been highly
successful, but many other projects, even those well designed and
well-funded, have never gotten off the ground (Chipidza & Leidner,
2019). This track is dedicated to research on how IS has been used for
good, how and when it is successful, and how and when it tends to fail.
The contribution of the track is the development of theory and methods
for improving the outcomes when IS is used for Good.
What we are looking for
We welcome papers that theoretically, conceptually, or empirically
advance research on the impact of IS on society when IS and ICTs
specifically target the improvement of social welfare. Papers may use
any acceptable methodology and theory. Submissions are encouraged at any
level of analysis or progress. Both full papers and emerging research
are encouraged so that authors can gain valuable feedback for moving
their projects forward. Possible topics may include (but are not limited
to):
* The role of Fintech in economic development
* Projects or systems focused on the digital divide
* Social connections of geographically distant groups with a common cause
* Digital strategies to fight disenfranchisement and marginalization
* Corporate social responsibility success and failure
* Digital activism that advances human rights
* Information systems that focus on financial inclusion
* The impact of digital saviors (those who think they know best and
impose systems on a community for their own good)
