The 8th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud
(FiCloud 2020)
24-26 August 2020, Rome, Itlay
http://www.ficloud.org/2020/
Technical co-sponsorship: IEEE-CS TCI
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cloud is a modern computing platform for delivering on-demand computing
services to service consumers over the Internet. Computing services
include, for example, storage, memory, compute power, databases, and
networking among others. Cloud services are generally provided using SaaS
(Software-as-a-Service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) and IaaS
(Infrastructure-as-a-Service). Unlike conventional distributed computing,
cloud offers flexibility, scalability, efficiency and elasticity in service
provisioning.
The Internet of Things (IoT) provides a dynamic and global network
infrastructure which is characterized by intelligent and self configuring
capabilities. IoT is considered as an integral part of the future Internet.
It is based on interoperable communication protocols in order to enable the
interaction and integration of virtual as well as physical Things such as
computers, smart devices, sensors, cars, refrigerators, food packages,
medicines, etc. Things can be seamlessly integrated into the information
network and interaction can be made through the provision of intelligent
interfaces. In not so distant future, IoT will be forcing its way into
every aspect of our lives and technologies including smart homes, smart
cities, environment and nature, green energy, food, medicine, automotive,
aerospace and aviation, telecommunication, and so on.
IoT is generally characterized by real world and small Things, limited
capacity, constrained devices and the consequential issues such as less
reliability, security and privacy. Cloud computing on the other hand deals
mainly with virtual world and has unlimited capabilities in terms of
storage and processing power. Thus cloud and IoT are the main complementary
aspects of the future Internet. IoT can benefit from the unlimited
capabilities and resources of cloud computing. Similarly, cloud can benefit
from IoT by extending its scope to deal with real world things in a more
distributed and dynamic manner.
The theme of this conference is to promote the state of the art in
scientific and practical research of the IoT and cloud computing. It
provides a forum for bringing together researchers and practitioners from

information are as follows.
*Call for Papers*
*Special Issue of International Journal of Electronic Commerce:*
*“Dark Sides of Digitalization”*
Digitalization of individuals (i.e., the proliferation of digital
technologies in the lives of individuals), organizations (i.e.,
digitalization of work and the business environment) and societies (i.e.,
the digital economy) has been enabled by information technologies (IT) such
as smartphones, social media, cloud-based systems, robots, and artificial
intelligence. The adoption and use of these technologies have reshaped
human’s perceptions, actions, and environments; and are associated with a
myriad of benefits for individuals, organizations, and societies (e.g.
connectivity, enhanced decision-making, increased productivity and economic
growth). Despite the conspicuous benefits, digitalization has also unveiled
“dark sides” at the individual, organizational, and societal levels. While
the bright sides of digitalization have received much academic attention,
the literature on the dark sides of digitalization is in its early stages
and in need of further research. This special issue intends to provide a
forum for studies focusing on the dark side of digitalization at all levels
of analysis. The objective of this special issue is to focus on the
drivers, processes, and consequences of the dark side of digitalization as
well as the potential strategies and ways for rectifying them. Some of the
proposed research topics include, but are not limited to:
• Issues related to the problematic, addictive, and deviant patterns of use
of IT.
• Security and privacy concerns associated with digitalization and
e-commerce, including surveillance and appropriation of personal behavior
traces for corporate use.
• The dark side of artificial intelligence and interacting with robots,
such as diminished human control and loss of jobs.
• Deceptive computer-mediated communication and fake online contents and
their associated costs.
• Social fissures, inequality, and concentration of power due to
digitalization.
• De-democratization and polarization of society due to digitalization.
• The adverse effects of e-commerce and sharing economy for individuals,
organizations, and society.

<mailto:katina.michael@asu.edu>Overview of Special Issue
Information Systems Development (ISD) has been part of the intellectual
core of information systems for over 40 years (Obrand et al., 2018;
Sidorova et al., 2008). Its chequered history of successes and failures
has, however, been an ongoing concern of the IS research community
(Dwivedi et al., 2015; Hassan & Mathiassen, 2017). Despite efforts to
improve the management of ISD projects, these efforts have not had the
desired effect (Lim et al., 2011).
There is anecdotal evidence that business analytics can help project
managers to (i) understand the dynamics and collective state of complex
projects, (ii) detect and forecast trends, (iii) improve the
effectiveness of risk models, (iv) evaluate the effectiveness of a
change to the development process, and (v) distinguish questions of
‘information’ from questions of ‘insight’ (Davenport et al., 2010).
Business analytics are frequently referred to as ‘the techniques,
technologies, systems, practices, methodologies, and applications that
analyse critical business data to help an enterprise better understand
its business and market and make timely decisions’ (Chen et al., 2012,
p.1166). Yet, much of the research conducted to date has focused on the
technologies of business analytics and not enough on the people and
their organisational context in which such technologies are intended to
be used (Abbasi et al, 2017; Conboy et al., 2018; Mikalef et al., 2019).
This is a significant limitation given that the ISD environment is a
highly metric oriented, complex, and socially embedded activity that is
continuously changing (Conboy, 2009; Kudaravalli et al., 2017; Windeler
et al., 2017).
This special issue seeks to collect contemporary research on the latest
developments and challenges of how organisations exploit business
analytics to support project/portfolio managers, project teams, and
other project stakeholders.
Indicative List of Anticipated Themes
This special issue seeks a wide range of articles that draw on diverse
project settings, theories, and approaches to understand the different
aspects of business analytics as applied to the context of ISD. The
following questions are of interest for the special issue:
• How can business analytics be used to better understand and manage ISD
projects?
• What value does business analytics provide to ISD management and
development teams?
• What tensions arise from the integration of business analytics with
traditional and agile methods and practices?
• What are the emerging best practices that enable business analytics to
be embedded within the ISD process and the wider organisation?
• Does the deployment of business analytics make existing agile methods
and practices less valuable or even obsolete?
• What new metrics and standards can business analytics provide to
manage and control ISD projects more effectively?
• How can business analytics enable organisational learning and
innovation in the context of ISD?
• How are business analytics being applied in various types
(distributed, large scale) of ISD projects?
• How can business analytics support the scaling of ISD projects?
• What are the change management and organisational cultural issues that
need to be considered when developing analytical capabilities?
• How can business analytics provide new ways of working in ISD projects?
• What ethical issues stem from the use of business analytics in ISD
projects?
• How can business analytics be used to support more effective decision
making?
• What are the new theories and theoretical developments to explain the
implementation and use of business analytics in ISD projects?
These questions are not intended to be exhaustive. Rather they are
intended to stimulate thinking about the role of business analytics in
the management of ISD projects across various levels of analysis - from
participants in individual projects through projects, programs,
portfolios, organisations, and the wider society. We welcome submissions
that address questions pertaining to all aspects of the intersection of
business analytics and ISD project management.

CALL FOR PAPERS
17th Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
(KR2020)
12—18 September 2020, Rhodes, Greece
https://kr2020.inf.unibz.it/
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR) is a well-established and
lively field of research. In KR a fundamental assumption is that an
agent's knowledge is explicitly represented in a declarative form,
suitable for processing by dedicated reasoning engines. This assumption,
that much of what an agent deals with is knowledge-based, is common in
many modern intelligent systems. Consequently, KR has contributed to the
theory and practice of various areas in AI, including automated planning
and natural language understanding, and to fields beyond AI, including
databases, verification, software engineering, and robotics. In recent
years, KR has contributed also to new and emerging fields, including the
semantic web, computational biology, cyber security, and the development
of software agents.
The KR conference series is the leading forum for timely in-depth
presentation of progress in the theory and principles underlying the
representation and computational management of knowledge.
SCOPE
We solicit papers presenting novel results on the principles of KR that
clearly contribute to the formal foundations of relevant problems or
show the applicability of results to implemented or implementable
systems. We also welcome papers from other areas that show clear use
of, or contributions to, the principles or practice of KR. We also
encourage "reports from the field" of applications, experiments,
developments, and tests.

Subject: [AISWorld] Last CALL FOR PAPERS Special Issue on Co-design of
Data and Computation Management in Fog Computing

LAST CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue on Co-design of Data and Computation Management in Fog
Computing
to be published in the Future Generation Computer Systems (FGCS) Journal
CFP:
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/future-generation-computer-systems/call-f…
------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT DATES
- Submission deadline: January 31st, 2020
- Authors' Notification: April 30th, 2020
- Revised version deadline: June 12th, 2020
- Final decision: July 31st, 2020
------------------------------------------------------
OVERVIEW
The term Fog Computing has been introduced to identify a paradigm for
designing applications able to exploit both the (virtually) infinite
resources on the cloud and the limited edge computation power by operating
also on the devices living in between these two sides. More specifically,
the aim is to exploit a heterogeneous and distributed computational and
storage environment to optimize the execution of modern applications
requiring high computational resources while reducing the delay and
defining constraints on where and how data can be moved and stored. In
fact, big volumes of data are produced every day at the edge of the network
and their analysis requires to either move the computation to the data or
to move the data to the computation. For this reason, a co-design between
data and computation management is required. An example could be to define
the amount of data to be moved with respect to the complexity of required
data analysis. In some cases, this data movement is not possible or limited
due to privacy restrictions, which do not allow data collected at the edge
to be stored on cloud facilities maintained by third-party actors. In other
cases, the volume of data moved through the network introduces severe
delays in the processing and techniques to reduce the volume by
pre-processing and filtering them directly where the data are generated
should be enacted to reduce this delay. At the same time, any
transformation of the data might affect their utility for the final
customer, thus, also the quality of the data should be taken into account.
Moreover, the data collected by IoT and sensors at the edge is often
subject to quality issues that might be detected and solved before using
them for analytics and decision making.
