: SPECIAL ISSUE, ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT JOURNAL
:
: Exploiting IT based Capabilities: The Challenge of Integrated Change
:
: Guest Editors: Joe McDonagh, David Coghlan
: University of Dublin, Ireland
:
: The effective integration of IT in work organisations poses a range of
: significant but diverse challenges for senior management, IT specialists,
: business users of IT and OD consultants. Indeed, of particular importance
: in this regard is the need to concurrently (i) attend to economic,
: technical, human and organisational aspects of IT related change while
: simultaneously (ii) accommodating the diverse influences of multiple
: stakeholder groups with their respective forms of knowledge and expertise.
: Failure to address these challenges is said to contribute to much IT
: related underperformance and failure.
:
: This special issue of the Organization Development Journal is seeking
: papers that address the challenge of integrated change in the context of
: introducing, integrating, and exploiting IT in work organisations. Of
: particular interest are papers that embrace a multidisciplinary perspective
: on the challenge of integrated change. Such papers will ideally draw on
: perspectives from the domains of strategy, organisation behaviour,
: organisation development, and information systems engineering.
:
: Manuscripts should be limited to 10-12 double spaced pages in length (not
: including tables, figures or references). Include an abstract of about 100
: words. All citations and references should be formatted to APA, 3rd edition
: style.
:
: Articles that have been presented at a scientific conference are welcome
: for submission, even though they may be published in non-copy protected
: Proceedings. However, manuscripts being considered by another journal at
: the same time will not be accepted.
:
: If accepted for publication, the author(s) will be required to submit a
: final version of the manuscript on PC compatible disk or as an e-mail
: attachment with a short biographical note and a photograph of the
: author(s). All figures, tables and other artwork must be also be submitted
: in file form or "camera ready" condition.

: workshop proposal is December 3, 1999.
:
: WORKSHOPS
:
: We solicit proposals for WORKSHOPS related to the conference topics (See
: below). Proposals should be submitted to the workshops chair, Bernhard
: Thalheim (thalheim(a)informatik.tu-cottbus.de) by December 3, 1999. Prior
: contact with the workshops chair is encouraged. We plan to hold
: workshops in parallel tracks on the last day of the conference, and plan
: to publish the proceedings in time for distribution at the conference.
:
: SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE
:
: The International Conference on Conceptual Modeling provides a forum for
: presenting and discussing current research and applications in which the
: major emphasis is on conceptual modeling. This conference was
: originally devoted to the Entity-Relationship (ER) model, but has
: expanded to include many types of semantic data modeling, behavior and
: process modeling, object-oriented systems modeling, and modeling for
: Web-based applications. The conference embraces all phases of software
: development including analysis, specification, design, implementation,
: evolution, and reengineering. It is the aim of this conference to
: present state-of-the-art research on emerging topics in conceptual
: modeling, to review important techniques in related areas, and to
: discuss application papers of interest to information system
: professionals as well as information technology academics and
: researchers.
:
: TOPICS OF INTEREST

: The conference focuses on conceptual modeling and advanced information
: systems design and implementation. Topics of interest include, but are
: not limited to, conceptual modeling as applied to:
:
: - active databases

: of PostScript or PDF files (contact Stephen Liddle, the conference
: Webmaster, er2000(a)byu.edu, if you need assistance). Papers may not
: exceed 5000 words. Additionally we suggest using at least an 11-point
: font and no more than 20 pages. The ER2000 home page
: (www.er2000.byu.edu) contains further details on electronic submissions.
:
: The proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in the LNCS series.
: Springer-Verlag publishes a full-text electronic version of LNCS in
: parallel with the printed version, thus the electronic source of
: accepted papers will be required (LaTeX 2e format is strongly
: preferred). Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit
: extended versions for possible publication in the Data & Knowledge
: Engineering journal.

: Camera-ready papers: July 11, 2000
:
: TUTORIAL PROPOSALS
:
: We solicit tutorial proposals of interest to ER2000 attendees.
: Proposals should identify the intended audience and give enough material
: to provide a sense of what will be covered. The target duration is
: either 1.5 or 3 hours. Proposals should be submitted in plain text by
: April 4, 2000 to the tutorials chair, Ling Liu (lingliu(a)cc.gatech.edu).

: **Outline
: The growth of the Internet has dramatically changed the way in which web

: only important to individual users, but to business organizations. Today, a
: large number of companies, organizations, and customers are exploiting the
: opportunities offered by Internet-based electronic commerce solutions and
: many more are expected to follow. Companies have put their databases and
: product catalogues on the Web, search engines allow electronic market
: participants around the globe to locate potential trading partners, and a
: set of different protocols are established to exchange goods and services by
: using different business models and following different strategies. There is
: a diagnostic need for effective tools for information consumers, who must be
: able to easily locate in the web interested information from unstructured
: documents and pictures to structured, record oriented data. The effective
: and efficient access to the web information to support e-commerce activities
: has become a critical research area. This has led to the development of new
: e-commerce tools and technology, web data models and query languages, web
: site management system, auction and negotiation issues etc. The management
: of Web data is receiving a new set of challenges with the advent of XML and
: other standards.
: The main objective of this conference is to bring together researchers from
