CALL FOR PAPERS
**BISE Special Issue - Digital Entrepreneurship: Opportunities,
Challenges, and Impacts**
Deadline for submission: 1 March 2021
Details: http://www.bise-journal.com/?p=1865
****************************************************************************************************************************
*SPECIAL ISSUE*
Digital transformation creates new opportunities and is an important
driver of novel and often disruptive innovation and value creation.
Entrepreneurs are using digital technologies to finance innovation
(Ahrens et al. 2019; Audretsch et al. 2016; Fisch 2019) or create new
digital products, services, and business models. These activities are
called digital entrepreneurship and related new ventures are commonly
referred to as digital startups if their business logic fully relies on
digital technologies for value creation and transfer (Berger et al.
2019; Steininger 2019). Such endeavors bring changes in entrepreneurial
processes (e.g., opportunity recognition and pursuit), innovation,
competences, control, financing, institutions, and ecosystems (Block et
al. 2018b; Cram et al. 2016; Hoegen et al. 2018; Nambisan 2017; Sussan
and Acs 2017; Veit et al. 2014). The analysis of innovation and its
positive economic impacts have a long tradition in information systems
as well as entrepreneurship research (Audretsch et al. 2006; Yoo et al.
2010). Today, digital entrepreneurship is recognized by many countries
as a very important element of economic development and job creation
(Block et al. 2018a). However, at the same time, it also challenges
established industries and forces them to cope with these new
developments and technologies that can have adverse consequences on the
economy and society (Shen et al. 2018; Veit et al. 2014).
This special issue focuses on understanding digital entrepreneurship and
its implications. Specifically, we encourage contributions that deal
with the opportunities and challenges of digitalization for
entrepreneurial endeavors, specificities of processes in digital
startups and for developing digital business models, and the impacts on
cities, regions, or countries.
*
INVITED CONTRIBUTIONS*
Submissions to this special issue are encouraged from all theoretical
and methodological perspectives drawing from information systems,
entrepreneurship, organizational behavior, strategic management, and
others. Authors must clearly outline why their study is new and
interesting for research and practice and how it relates to the theme of
the special issue.
The following list of topics is neither exclusive nor exhaustive. We
have structured them along three dimensions (Recker and von Briel 2019):
/Opportunities of Digital Entrepreneurship:/
- Opportunity recognition via digital means
- Novel use of digital technologies for entrepreneurial activities and
venture development (e.g., digital tools for business model creation and
evaluation, big data, AI)
- Opportunities and management of digital methods of funding innovation
and entrepreneurship (e.g., crowdfunding, ICOs)
- New value creation and platform innovation through digital technologies
- Corporate entrepreneurship and startups within established
organizations to approach opportunities and challenges of digital
transformation
- Exploitation of missing regulation of digital entrepreneurship (e.g.,
Uber)
/Processes, Organization, and Challenges of Digital Entrepreneurship:/
- Competence and team needs of (corporate) digital entrepreneurs
- Digital entrepreneurial culture
- The role of universities and entrepreneurial ecosystems for digital
entrepreneurship
- Impacts of digital technologies on entrepreneurial decision making
- Use of Social media or crowdsourcing resources by entrepreneurs
- Organization, organizational learning, and performance of digital startups
- Management of digital business model innovation
- Internationalization of digital startups
- Alignment of digital capabilities and business models
- Behavior of startups in digital platform ecosystems (e.g., App
Entrepreneurs)
- Development and management of new digital ecosystems by startups
- Industry-specific classification schemes of startups or business
models (e.g. sharing economy, blockchain, or AI business model types)
- Changes in startup investment processes due to digitalization
/Impacts of Digital Entrepreneurship:/
- Impacts of digital entrepreneurship on regions and countries (e.g.,
knowledge spill-over, innovation, job-creation, economic growth)
- Investments in digital innovation and their economic or societal pay-offs
- The dark side of new digital business models (e.g., negative impacts
of sharing economy business models such as AirBnB or Uber on economy and
society)
- Influences of digital entrepreneurial and innovative activities on
government policy or regulation
*

*Beschreibung*
Datenökosystemen beschäftigen, in diesem Track einzureichen. Mögliche
Themen umfassen:
* Management von Daten und Datenqualität
* Verfahren zur Definition, Bewertung und Verbesserung der Datenqualität
* Data Sharing und multilaterale Formen des Datenmanagements
* Governance von Datenplattformen
* Datenmonetarisierung, Datenmarktplätze und Datenwert
* Theorien zur Wertschöpfung von Daten
* Datenschutz, Datensicherheit und Datensouveränität
* Nutzung und Bewirtschaftung von externen Daten
* Wiederverwenden und Teilen von Daten in Ökosystemen
* Rollen und Konfiguration von Data Supply Chains / Data Value Chains
* Architekturen und -standards für Datenökosysteme
* Interoperabilität und Portabilität von Daten in der Cloud

Subject: [AISWorld] CfP - ACIS (2020) - Track: DataAnalytics, Knowledge
Management, and Strategic Decision Making
Date: Sun, 9 Aug 2020 10:58:10 +1200
From: Nazim Taskin <nazimtaskin(a)gmail.com>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
Dear colleagues,
Call for Papers
*ACIS (2020) - Track: Data Analytics, Knowledge Management, and Strategic
Decision Making*
The goal of the Data Analytics, Knowledge Management and Strategic
Decision-making track is to advance our knowledge of the complexity of the
disruptive technologies of data analytics and their role in the advancement
of KM for better strategic decision-making. Aligned with the conference
theme, the emphasis of the track is on how individual and organizational
knowledge can be distilled from and incorporated into data analytics for
making more effective decisions and guidance to “navigate our digital
future”. Therefore, we encourage submissions that offer significant
theoretical and practical contributions on how organisations can utilise
emerging and analytics technologies to create value and knowledge more
effectively.
Data by itself is worthless unless business users analyse it and transform
it into practical knowledge that delivers value to their organizations.
That’s where data analytics and KM come into the picture. The success of
business decisions and government policies relies heavily on the quality of
the data and knowledge that underlie the decisions and policies. For this
reason, gathering, analysing and considering reliable data and more
importantly, transforming them into usable knowledge and expertise is
increasingly critical in strategic decision-making (Intezari & Gressel,
2017; Nicolas, 2004). Due to the extensive uncertainty, ambiguity, and risk
associated with strategic decisions (McKenzie et al., 2011), the role of
data analytics tools and technologies in KM has much to offer to help
businesses and government agencies to succeed in their strategic
decision-making (Li, Goh, & Jin, 2018). Nevertheless, the transformation of
data into knowledge and the use of analytical tools in incorporating data
and knowledge into strategic decisions is an underdeveloped field. While
offering significant promises, data analytics poses new challenges for both
practitioners and scholars. Therefore, it is important and timely that the
fields of decision-making and KM respond to the profound changes that big
data and analytics are bringing to organizations (Pauleen & Wang, 2017). We
are particularly interested in the incorporation of KM systems into
strategic decisions and policies, as well as the use of analytic tools and
techniques in fully supporting and successfully operationalizing people’s
knowledge.
This track invites submissions that address the challenges and
opportunities associated with data analytics and KM, and their
implication/incorporation into business processes and decision-making
practices at the individual and organisational levels. The papers should
address the conference theme.
The track accepts empirical papers, as well as conceptual papers that offer
deep theoretical insights into the areas of interest. The track is open to
papers employing various research methods; and accepts completed research
papers, as well as research-in-progress papers.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Data analytics across decision-making levels: strategic, tactical, and
operational
- Data analytics and emerging research philosophies and methodologies
- Methodologies, techniques, and analytical tools for individual and
group decision-making
- The integration of data analytics and KM for strategic
decision-making: techniques, challenges and opportunities
- Organizational barriers and enablers of the use of data analytics and
KM in managerial and strategic decision-making
- KM initiatives for managerial and strategic decision-making
- Design, development, and use of KM technologies to support data-driven
decisions and strategies
- Organizational barriers and enablers of the use of data analytics for
KM in managerial and strategic decision
- Analytical tools and techniques, such as text analytics and sentiment
analysis for analysing knowledge and disseminating expertise
- Visualisation of structured and unstructured data and knowledge
- Big data velocity and real-time analysis of data in decision-making at
the individual and organisational levels
- KM innovation, standards and challenges in managing data-driven
decisions
- Data Mining in explicit knowledge
- Cultural challenges in organizations merging initiatives in analytics
and KM
- Individual, intra-, and inter-organizational data analytics and KM
technologies
Conference website: https://www.acis2020.org/

Subject: [AISWorld] CFP:Responsible AI and Analytics for an Ethical and
Inclusive Digitised Society
Date: Wed, 5 Aug 2020 19:34:38 +0000
From: Dennehy, Denis <denis.dennehy(a)nuigalway.ie>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
The 20th IFIP Conference e-Business, e-Services, and e-Society I3E2021
Responsible AI and Analytics for an Ethical and Inclusive Digitised Society
1st – 3rd September 2021
NUI Galway, Galway, Ireland
www.I3E2021.com<http://www.i3e2021.com/>
AI, analytics, and ICT in general, create opportunities and unintended
or negative consequences for individuals and society (cf. Ransbotham et
al., 2016; Majchrzak et al., 2016). These opportunities and consequences
have not been evenly distributed.
Despite the many personal, economic, and societal benefits offered by AI
and analytics, its use raises a variety of ethical concerns. Ethics
permeates the entire analytics process, from what data to use, to how to
represent the extracted knowledge and exploit the insights to create
economic and social value. Ethical concerns (i.e. illegitimate
surveillance, invasion of privacy, unemployment, malicious use etc.) are
frequently used to portray AI and analytics as ‘a danger to humanity’.
These concerns warrant the attention of the academic community who are
in a privileged position within society to raise awareness about the
responsible design, implementation and use of AI, analytics, and ICT.
At the same time, AI and analytics has opened new domains of exclusion
and privilege for some, leaving some individuals and communities
excluded from the digitised society. For example, digital exclusion is
part of the overall challenge of exclusion, a growing phenomenon which
carries with it a series of deteriorations in life paths (i.e. poor
lifelong earnings and an increased risk of marginalisation). There are
many who are currently excluded for reasons of low income and education,
location, culture, trust and confidence levels or various disabilities
(European Commission).
Success in the increasingly digitised society requires a comprehensive
approach to fostering an ethical and inclusive society. The 20th IFIP
Conference on e-Business, e-Services, and e-Society aims to bring
together contributions from a variety of perspectives, disciplines and
communities for the advancement of knowledge regarding Responsible AI
and Analytics for an Ethical and Inclusive Digitised Society.
To this end, we invite scholars, practitioners and research students to
submit and present their papers and findings to the 20th IFIP Conference
on e-Business, e-Services, and e-Society to be held in September 2021 at
NUI Galway, Galway, Ireland. Theoretical and empirical papers employing

<mailto:katina.michael@asu.edu>Overview of Special Issue
Information Systems Development (ISD) has been part of the intellectual
core of information systems for over 40 years (Obrand et al., 2018;
Sidorova et al., 2008). Its chequered history of successes and failures
has, however, been an ongoing concern of the IS research community
(Dwivedi et al., 2015; Hassan & Mathiassen, 2017). Despite efforts to
improve the management of ISD projects, these efforts have not had the
desired effect (Lim et al., 2011). There is anecdotal evidence that
business analytics can help project managers to (i) understand the
dynamics and collective state of complex projects, (ii) detect and
forecast trends, (iii) improve the effectiveness of risk models, (iv)
evaluate the effectiveness of a change to the development process, and
(v) distinguish questions of ‘information’ from questions of ‘insight’
(Davenport et al., 2010).
Business analytics are frequently referred to as ‘the techniques,
technologies, systems, practices, methodologies, and applications that
analyse critical business data to help an enterprise better understand
its business and market and make timely decisions’ (Chen et al., 2012,
p.1166). Yet, much of the research conducted to date has focused on the
technologies of business analytics and not enough on the people and
their organisational context in which such technologies are intended to
be used (Abbasi et al, 2017; Conboy et al., 2018; Mikalef et al., 2019).
This is a significant limitation given that the ISD environment is a
highly metric oriented, complex, and socially embedded activity that is
continuously changing (Conboy, 2009; Kudaravalli et al., 2017; Windeler
et al., 2017).
This special issue seeks to collect contemporary research on the latest
developments and challenges of how organisations exploit business
analytics to support project/portfolio managers, project teams, and
other project stakeholders.
Indicative List of Anticipated Themes
This special issue seeks a wide range of articles that draw on diverse
project settings, theories, and approaches to understand the different
aspects of business analytics as applied to the context of ISD. The
following questions are of interest for the special issue:
• How can business analytics be used to better understand and manage ISD
projects?
• What value does business analytics provide to ISD management and
development teams?
• What tensions arise from the integration of business analytics with
traditional and agile methods and practices?
• What are the emerging best practices that enable business analytics to
be embedded within the ISD process and the wider organisation?
• Does the deployment of business analytics make existing agile methods
and practices less valuable or even obsolete?
• What new metrics and standards can business analytics provide to
manage and control ISD projects more effectively?
• How can business analytics enable organisational learning and
innovation in the context of ISD?
• How are business analytics being applied in various types
(distributed, large scale) of ISD projects?
• How can business analytics support the scaling of ISD projects?
• What are the change management and organisational cultural issues that
need to be considered when developing analytical capabilities?
• How can business analytics provide new ways of working in ISD projects?
• What ethical issues stem from the use of business analytics in ISD
projects?
• How can business analytics be used to support more effective decision
making?
• What are the new theories and theoretical developments to explain the
implementation and use of business analytics in ISD projects?
These questions are not intended to be exhaustive. Rather they are
intended to stimulate thinking about the role of business analytics in
the management of ISD projects across various levels of analysis - from
participants in individual projects through projects, programs,
portfolios, organisations, and the wider society. We welcome submissions
that address questions pertaining to all aspects of the intersection of
business analytics and ISD project management.
