DESCRIPTION
In the digital age, innovative technologies influence and change
established work processes, products, services, and business models by
connecting individuals, organizations, machines, and other ‘things’ in
new ways, as well as by enabling novel working, collaboration, and
automation models (Fitzgerald et al. 2014). To succeed in this highly
competitive and dynamic environment, organizations must unfold the
potential of advanced digital technologies in their business strategies,
transform their work routines, processes and structures, rethink their
business models, as well as manage and govern IT infrastructures that
are central to their value propositions (Legner et al. 2017). In short,
pervasive digitalization has increased the importance of information
technology (IT) and transformed the demands placed on organizations in
general, and IT functions in particular. Besides ensuring regular IT
operations, IT functions are increasingly required to proactively
identify technological innovations and to rapidly transfer them into
marketable solutions – and with that to directly contribute to their
organization’s value proposition (Urbach et al. 2017).
In this context, IS strategizing and governance represent key activities
for the effective deployment of IT resources and ultimately for value
creation through IT. The emergence of new digital technologies (e.g.,
artificial intelligence [AI], big-data analytics, blockchain, cloud
computing) and infrastructures (e.g., digital platforms and ecosystems),
novel value-creation processes and work practices (e.g., IT
consumerization, human-robot collaboration, resource sharing) along with
the availability of unprecedented data volumes challenge existing
conceptualizations and theories related to IS strategy and governance
(Markus 2017; Newell & Marabelli 2015). For instance, while cloud
services may make the IT artefact seemingly disappear, the challenge of
governing the design and use of such services and associated IT
resources has become even more acute (Schneider & Sunyaev 2016). Digital
business models and gig economy platforms that revolve around resource
sharing and/or complex product-service offerings not only challenge
organizational boundaries, but also established ideas about ownership of
resources, tasks, and outputs (Schor 2014). Similarly, while AI-based
algorithms can automate business processes, they also highlight the need
for data and process governance (Tarafdar et al. 2017). At the same
time, in organizations where more ‘traditional’ technologies and work
arrangements are still dominant, IS strategy and governance challenges
remain highly complex and important (Wiener et al. 2016).
The objectives of the proposed track are two-fold. First, from a
scholarly research perspective, the objective is to foster and promote
novel concepts and theories on IS strategy and governance, with a
particular focus on the manifold opportunities and challenges associated
with the pervasive digitalization of business and society. Second, the
track aims at offering insights that enable IS practitioners to leverage
emerging digital technologies, to respond to digitalization challenges,
and ultimately, to make effective use of available IT resources.
The track is open to all types of contributions—including research in
progress—studying IS strategy and governance topics from different
stakeholder perspectives, in different contexts and settings (e.g.,
for-profits and non-profits), at different levels of analysis (e.g.,
individual, project, program, organizational, network, ecosystem, and
societal level), and with different theoretical perspectives and
methodological approaches (e.g., conceptual, design-oriented, and
empirical studies). We particularly welcome studies that address the
conference theme “Human Values Crisis in a Digitizing World” by
discussing and expanding our understanding of how digital technologies
(e.g., those used for control or governance purposes) and human values
influence each other and sometimes conflict, whether at the individual,
the organizational and/or the societal level.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Digital strategizing and strategy implementation (e.g., link to
overall business strategy, development of digital capabilities,
sustainability of digital strategies, translation of strategic
objectives into governance practices and structures)
• Strategic impact of emerging digital technologies (e.g., artificial
intelligence, blockchain, big-data analytics, cloud computing) on
business models, governance structures, and processes, etc.
• Governance of digital transformation and innovation processes (e.g.,
new governance models for complex organizations, such as companies
operating with coexisting ‘brick and mortar’ and digital business models)
• Changing role of CIO function & New role of CDO function (e.g.,
‘digital race’ between CIO and CDO, structure and nature of business-IT
relationships)
• Data-driven leadership and control approaches (e.g., algorithmic
management of work processes, technology-mediated control)
• Governance of digital value-creation processes and networks (e.g.,
digital platforms and ecosystems, Industry 4.0 and cyber-physical
systems, IT consumerization, IT-enabled product-service systems,
resource sharing, etc.)
• Governance of novel work practices (e.g., agile software development,
human-robot interaction and collaboration) and sourcing models (e.g.,
crowdsourcing, multi-sourcing, open-sourcing, and back-sourcing)
• Information security governance (e.g., cybersecurity frameworks,
standards, and policies for critical infrastructures)
• Dark side of digital strategies/governance, including ethical issues
as well as undesired ecological, economic, and socio-emotional
side-effects (e.g., technostress)
• Critical reflections on IS strategy and governance in the digital age
(e.g., truly ‘new’ features and challenges of digitalization, links to
traditional research streams)
• Novel theoretical perspectives and research approaches that broaden,
or challenge, our understanding of IS strategy and governance in the
digital age

Subject: [AISWorld] Cfps: Special issue on Big Data Analytics and
Artificial Intelligence to Combat a Pandemic
Date: Tue, 3 Nov 2020 08:32:53 -0600
From: Jeet Gupta <guptaj(a)uah.edu>
To: AISWorld <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
*Journal of Data, Information, and Management*
*Call for Paper for Special Issue on*
*Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence to Combat a Pandemic*
COVID-19 has become a global public health pandemics, causing hundreds of
thousands of deaths and trillions of dollars of economic damage.
Scientists, researchers, doctors and healthcare experts around the
world are studying this pandemic and its impacts on individuals,
organizations and societies. While there is no cure yet for the virus,
contact tracing has become an important part of the response to the
covid-19 pandemic. This has led to calls for new technologies such as
machine learning and artificial intelligence, capable of detecting,
tracking, and isolating Covid-19 cases, to slow the spread of the
coronavirus. This also includes performing predictive analytics on
relational, temporal and/or spatial data (medical encounter data, hospital
admission data, social media data, mobile apps data and others) and use the
insights from it to understand and monitor the epidemic. Further, the
impact of Covid-19 is not limited just to the healthcare sector as all
other sectors of any economy of the world are affected as well.
Therefore, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the need to understand different
things in a new way has also created pressure to develop analytical tools.
In particular, research has been done on how the virus spreads among the
population and what health problems are caused by viral infections, as well
as how different treatment measures affect the disease. Recently, however,
other problems caused by the Covid-19 virus, such as economic and social
problems, have also arisen. These various problems are constantly
accumulating a considerable amount of data, which can be either a
well-defined or fragmented news stream.
In this special issue of the *Journal of Data, Information and Management*
on the theme of “Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (including
machine learning) to combat Covid-19” is intended to obtain insights and
viewpoints from scholars and practitioners on the use of new technologies
such as artificial intelligence and machine learning for the prevention or
reduction of the negative impact of COVID-19. We seek for articles that
apply artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science concepts
and techniques to study the pandemic and its effects on individuals,
organizations or the supply chain at large.
Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:
· The behavioral, temporal, societal, and organizational aspects of
the pandemic
· Predictive modeling of COVID-19 spread based on hospital data
· Location-based human mobility data (e.g. social media, mobile) to
track COVID-19
· Use of AI and machine learning enabled devices to detect COVID-19
· Analysis of disease transmissions and interventions
· Data analysis of the impact of various
(non)government intervention policies (e.g. stay-at-home, mask mandate) on
the COVID-19 transmission
· How enterprise systems (i.e. ERP, SCM, CRM) complement, the ever
increasing need to work from home.
· Urban logistics
· Sustainability issues
· Supply Chain Flexibility
· Food Supply Chains
· Distant work (productivity and social impact)
· Innovation in the supply chain
· Globalization of supply chains
· Supply Chain Risk
· Innovative strategies to limit risk of epidemic disease
propagation
· Simulation of outbreak events
· Big data-driven health system response to epidemic outbreaks on
operations risk identification
· AI-based epidemic network analysis
· MCDM models in field of healthcare risk management
· IoT application in healthcare
· Humanitarian logistics dealing with uncertainties
· Other topics related this special issue

LOCATION
Olomouc is a beautiful place on the Morava river with more than
a thousand-year-long history. Once a capital of Moravia - one of the three
historical Lands of the Bohemian Crown - nowadays, it still somehow waits
to be rediscovered. The world-renowned tourist guide Lonely Planet alerted
to this fact by putting Olomouc onto the list of TOP 10 tourist
destinations not to be missed during a visit to Europe. It even claimed
Olomouc is one of the most unappreciated destinations in the Czech
Republic.
By its beauty, Olomouc can, however, easily compete with not only Prague
but any other most sought spots around Europe. It certainly deserves our
attention.
One can find there the second most important urban conservation zone in
the Czech Republic, surrounded by splendorous parks, an incredible
concentration of ecclesiastical structures, UNESCO-protected monuments,
and even a horolog with a history maybe more interesting than the Prague
one. All together safe from the neverending bustle of large cities...
The most important monument in Olomouc is the Holy Trinity Column standing
in the central square. It represents the largest group of Baroque statues
in one structure in Central Europe. Apart from many historical buildings
such as Olomouc castle with the gothic cathedral of St. Wenceslas or the
former Olomouc fortress, another interesting point about Olomouc is the
astronomical clock, designed in the spirit of Socialist Realism.
The city of Olomouc has a convenient location close to the geographic
centre of Moravia (a historical region in the east of the Czech Republic),
on the banks of the river Morava. The place forms an important highway and
railroad junction; thus, it is easily accessible using both individual and
public means of transport.
Olomouc lies 260 km (162 mi) eastwards from the Czech capital Prague, and
210 km (130 mi) from both the Slovakian capital Bratislava and the
Austrian capital Vienna. The closest international airports are 77 km (48
mi) away in Brno, and 202 km (126 mi) away in Katowice in Poland.
We are very excited about the fact that the TSD2021 is going to take place
in such a fabulous, unique and rich in history city as Olomouc.

Special Issue "Advances in Explainable Artificial Intelligence"
[Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this CFP]
****************************************************************
Special Issue "Advances in Explainable Artificial Intelligence"
MDPI Information, open access
Website:
https://www.mdpi.com/journal/information/special_issues/advance_explain_AI
****************************************************************
The following special issue will be published in Information (ISSN
2078-2489, https://www.mdpi.com/journal/information), and is now open to
receive submissions of full research articles and comprehensive review
papers for peer-review and possible publication.
The papers will be published, after a standard peer-review procedure, in
Open Access journal Information.
The official deadline for submission is 31 May 2021. However, you may
send your manuscript at any time before the deadline.
If accepted, the paper will be published very soon.
** SPECIAL ISSUE INFORMATION
Machine Learning (ML)-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms can
learn from known examples of various abstract representations and models
that, once applied to unknown examples, can perform classification,
regression, or forecasting tasks, to name a few.
Very often, these highly effective ML representations are difficult to
understand; this holds true particularly for Deep Learning models, which
can involve millions of parameters. However, for many applications, it
is of utmost importance for the stakeholders to understand the decisions
made by the system, in order to use them better. Furthermore, for
decisions that affect an individual, the legislation might even advocate
in the future a “right to an explanation”. Overall, improving the
algorithms’ explainability may foster trust and social acceptance of AI.
The need to make ML algorithms more transparent and more explainable has
given rise to several lines of research that form an area known as
explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI).
Among the goals of XAI are adding transparency to ML models by providing
detailed information about why the system has reached a particular
decision; designing more explainable and transparent ML models, while at
the same time maintaining high-performance levels; finding a way to
evaluate the overall explainability and transparency of the models and
quantifying their effectiveness for different stakeholders.
The objective of this Special Issue is to explore recent advances and
techniques in the XAI area.
Research topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Devising machine learning models that are transparent-by-design;
- Planning for transparency, from data collection up to training, test,
and production;
- Developing algorithms and user interfaces for explainability;
- Identifying and mitigating biases in data collection;
- Performing black-box model auditing and explanation;
- Detecting data bias and algorithmic bias;
- Learning causal relationships;
- Integrating social and ethical aspects of explainability;
- Integrating explainability into existing AI systems;
- Designing new explanation modalities;
- Exploring theoretical aspects of explanation and interpretability;
- Investigating the use of XAI in application sectors such as
healthcare, bioinformatics, multimedia, linguistics, human–computer
interaction, machine translation, autonomous vehicles, risk assessment,
justice, etc.
