Excerpt from the call
Although understanding the value and importance of platforms and
ecosystems across various industries and domains has grown significantly
over the years, there is still a paucity of research examining dynamic
and evolutionary aspects when it comes to their management and their
impact. We believe that studying management, dynamics and impact of
platforms is of tremendous societal importance and current technological
developments provide a plethora of rich empirical settings. We invite
authors to submit their research on the impact of actors on their
ecosystem and beyond, and urge them to clearly identify the actor level,
e.g., individual managers, teams, firms. Building on previous years’
experience, we seek contributions that focus on the “dynamic” aspects of
platforms and ecosystems, in their organization, participation and
impacts. [...]

detailed description on the submission process for both tracks is provided
at: https://conf.researchr.org/track/models-2022/models-2022-technical-track
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
**** FOUNDATIONS TRACK ****
We invite authors to submit high quality contributions describing
significant, original, and unpublished results in the following
categories:
1. Technical Papers
Technical papers should describe innovative research in modeling or
model-driven engineering activities. Papers in this submission category
should describe a novel contribution to the field and should carefully
support claims of novelty with citations to the relevant literature.
Evaluation Criteria:
Technical papers are evaluated on the basis of originality, soundness,
relevance, importance of contribution, strength of validation, quality
of presentation and appropriate comparison to related work. Where a
submission builds upon previous work of the author(s), the novelty of
the new contribution must be described clearly with respect to the
previous work. Technical papers need to discuss clearly how the results
were validated (e.g., formal proofs, controlled experiments, rigorous
case studies, or simulations). Authors are strongly encouraged to make
the artifacts used for the evaluation publicly accessible, e.g., through
a Github repository or an alternative that is likely to remain
available. There will be an artifact evaluation process, as discussed
below.
2. New Ideas and Vision Papers
We solicit short papers that present new ideas and visions. Such papers
may describe new, non-conventional model-driven engineering research
positions or approaches that depart from standard practice. They can
describe well-defined research ideas that are at an early stage of
investigation. They could also provide new evidence that common wisdom
should be challenged, present new unifying theories about existing
modeling research that provides novel insight or that can lead to the
development of new technologies or approaches, or apply modeling
technology to radically new application areas.
Evaluation Criteria:
New ideas and vision papers will be assessed primarily on their level of
originality and potential for impact on the field in terms of promoting
innovative thinking. Hence, inadequacies in the state-of-the-art and the
pertinence, correctness, and impact of the idea/vision must be described
clearly, even though the new idea need not be fully worked out, and a
fully detailed roadmap need not be presented. Authors are strongly
encouraged
to make the artifacts used for the evaluation publicly accessible, e.g.,
through
a Github repository or an alternative that is likely to remain available.
There will be an artifact evaluation process, as discussed below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
**** PRACTICE AND INNOVATION TRACK ****
The goal of the Practice and Innovation (P&I) Track is to fill the gap
between foundational research in model-based engineering (MBE) and
industrial needs. We invite authors from academia and/or industry to submit
original contributions reporting on the development of innovative MBE
solutions in industries, public sector, or open-source settings, as well as
innovative application of MBE in such contexts. Examples include:
* Scalable and cost-effective methodologies and tools
* Industrial case studies with valuable lessons learned
* Experience reports providing novel insights
Each paper should provide clear take-away value by describing the context
of a problem of practical importance, and the application of MBE that leads
to a solution.
Evaluation Criteria: A paper in the P&I Track will be evaluated mainly from
its practical take-away and the potential impact of the findings. More
specifically,
* The paper should discuss why the solution to the problem is innovative
(e.g., in terms of advancing the state-of-practice), effective, and/or
efficient, and what likely practical impact it has or will have;
* The paper should provide a concise explanation of approaches, techniques,
methodologies and tools employed;
* The paper should explain best practices that emerged, tools developed,
and/or software processes involved.
* Studies reporting on negative findings must provide a thorough discussion
of the potential causes of failure, and ideally a perspective on how to
solve them.
* Authors are encouraged to make the artifacts publicly accessible, e.g.,
through a Github repository or an alternative that is likely to remain
available. There will be an optional artifact evaluation process, as
discussed below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
**** Artefact Evaluation ****
After the notification, the authors of accepted papers will be invited to
submit their accompanying artifacts (e.g., software, datasets, proofs) to
the Artifact Evaluation track to be evaluated by the Artifact Evaluation
Committee. Participation in the Artifact Evaluation process is optional and
does not affect the final decision regarding the acceptance of papers.
Papers that successfully go through the Artifact Evaluation process will be
rewarded with a seal of approval included in the papers.
**** Special Issue in SoSyM ****
Authors of best papers from the conference will be invited to revise and
submit extended versions of their papers for publication in the Journal of
Software and Systems Modeling.

CALL FOR PAPERS - Metaverse
** NEW: Best papers will be invited to submit to a special Issue of the
AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction (THCI) **
Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-56), Maui,
Hawaii, January 3-6, 2023
http://www.hicss.org/
Metaverse minitrack, under the Organizational Systems and Technology track
The term “Metaverse” was first introduced in 1992 by the science fiction
writer Neal Stephenson in his novel “Snow Crash”. Metaverse is a
portmanteau consisting of “meta” (which means “beyond”), to capture the
development of a virtual world beyond the physical reality, and “verse”
(which refers to a back-formation from “universe”) to refer to a virtual
utopia. Second Life, a multimedia game, was launched in 2003 and was
considered as the most important application of Metaverse (or virtual
world) at the time. Despite the great attention that Second Life
attracted, Metaverse did not manage to create a critical mass possibly
due to the novelty of the technology at the time and its lack of
interoperability with other solutions.
Recently, the technological advancements in blockchain technology, the
evolution of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), the technological progress in
extended reality (virtual and augmented), the developments in other
scientific fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the convergence
of all the above technologies have increased the popularity of
Metaverse. It is expected that a new generation of Internet will evolve
from Metaverse, built of technologies like extended reality, blockchain,
and others. The dynamic of Metaverse is huge with many experts
predicting that it will generate a multi-trillion market in the coming
years. Despite the opportunities and the advantages that Metaverse may
offer, there are many open challenges that need to be assessed and
addressed including social, legal, ethical, technical, and others.
For these reasons, it is important for academics to systematically
research this field at various levels. Conferences, with their fast
turnaround, play a key role in disseminating knowledge about Metaverse
due to the speed at which developments occur. This minitrack aims to
bridge a gap at HICSS and serve as a venue to share knowledge and
discuss the latest developments in Metaverse.

CALL FOR PAPERS - Blockchain Cases and Innovations minitrack
Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-56), Maui,
Hawaii, January 3-6, 2023
http://www.hicss.org/
Blockchain Cases and Innovations minitrack, under the Organizational
Systems and Technology track
Blockchain, the technology underlying cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, has
been receiving considerable attention in recent years, as new use cases
in the public and private sector have been identified. What started as a
solution to the double-spending problem in Bitcoin, is being explored as
the backbone technology in scenarios where a trusted third party (e.g.,
a notary or a bank) is normally required. Using this technology,
transactions are securely registered on a data structure (aka the
ledger) replicated across a network of peers that validate the entries
using a consensus mechanism. New records are cryptographically linked to
existing ones, rendering them virtually immutable. The resulting
auditability and transparency have been leveraged in proposing
innovative solutions to land registries, to stop the spread of conflict
diamonds, to fight the counterfeiting of medication, to make supply
chains less opaque, and, generally, to promote new financial services.
Additionally, blockchains can also store and enforce the execution of
algorithmic code know as smart contracts – pieces of code that are
executed automatically once predetermined conditions are met – further
reducing uncertainty and promoting confidence among stakeholders that
would not normally trust each other. Nevertheless, we are still in the
early days of blockchain adoption, compared by some to the introduction
of the World Wide Web itself. Then, as now, few if any could predict the
full extent of the disruptive innovations that would emerge fostered by
this emerging technology.
For these reasons, it is important for academics to systematically
research this field, at various levels. Conferences play a key role in
disseminating knowledge about Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT -
including blockchains) due to the speed at which developments occur. The
proposed minitrack had a considerable attendance in the past three
editions, with the audience also registering to get information on new
editions or other related developments.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Innovative uses of Blockchain technology
· Blockchain case studies, applications, and implementations
· Blockchain and privacy, security, and identity
· Blockchain and digital transformation
· Decentralized Finance (DeFi)
· Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs)
· Decentralized Applications
· Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)
· Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)
· Tokenization
· The social and organizational impact of blockchain
· Barriers and enablers in blockchain adoption
· Blockchain and business model innovation
· Regulatory frameworks for Blockchain
· Governance and Blockchain
· Verticals using Blockchain (financial, healthcare, energy,
transportation, others)
· Blockchain in e-government and public administration
· Blockchain and the Internet-of-Things
· Blockchain in education
· Blockchain in solving migration and refugee issues
· Blockchain-driven marketplaces

SPECIAL SESSION: SCREENING OF MOVIES ABOUT MATHEMATICIANS
It is planned to have a special session with the exhibition of a
one-hour documentary film about a remarkable mathematician who is
considered a father of modern differential geometry. "Taking the Long
View: The Life of Shiing-shen Chern" (George Scisery, 2011) examines the
life of a remarkable mathematician whose formidable mathematical
contributions were matched by an approach and vision that helped build
bridges between China and the West. The biographical documentary follows
Shiing-shen Chern (1911-2004) through many of the most dramatic events
of the 20th century, portraying a man who dedicated his life to pure
mathematics with the style of a classical Chinese sage. (zalafilms.com
