Subject: [AISWorld] ICIS 2021 - CFP - Sustainability and IS: The Role
of Location (due 11/1/2021)
Date: Mon, 18 Oct 2021 17:10:53 +0000
From: Farkas, Prof. Dan J. <dfarkas(a)pace.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
CC: Farkas, Prof. Dan J. <dfarkas(a)pace.edu>
(Apologies for cross-listings)
Colleagues,
Sustainability and IS: The Role of Location
The Special Interest Group on Geographic Information Systems (SIGGIS) of
the Association for Information Systems (AIS) invites theoretical and
empirical research papers focusing on, but not limited to, digital
innovation and its role for sustainability, particularly the role of
location, including the areas of renewable energy, green IT and green
IS, and case examples, especially as they relate to research areas in
Management Information Systems.
Call for Papers
GIS can play a key role in improving sustainability by collecting and
managing data and analyzing these data integrated (or overlaid) with
other types of data, such as demographic data. For example, GIS can
improve supply chain logistics and transportation management by
identifying eco-routes and eco-efficient supply chains. GIS can also
serve as a common platform that integrates people, processes, things,
environments, and data about them and, thereby, generate insights for
sustainable development. Spatial data comprise much of the data that
organizations collect (so-called big data). Thus, we posit that
organizational adoption of sustainability strategies necessitates models
that incorporate location data regarding environmental processes and
impacts, location information about causes and effects, and knowledge
sharing about what works, what does not, why, and where. We also
postulate that sustainability requires organizations to build up a
common platform to collect, analyze, and
share geo-referenced data on the environment.
Manuscripts are solicited focusing on conceptual model, theory,
methodology, applications, behavioral studies, and case studies with
regard to emerging opportunities and challenges for the role of digital
innovation associated with GIS for sustainability. Manuscripts on a
variety of topics related to the broader realm of GIS applications in
organizations and government, e.g., renewable energy and green IT, and
green IS, are welcome in the following areas:
Potential topics (not limited to topics listed below):
* Emerging opportunities and issues for sustainability and digital
innovation
* Digital innovation with GIS for sustainability
* Location-aware IoT for sustainability
* Location-aware AI for sustainability
* Sustainability with spatial decision support
* Social media location analytics for sustainability
* Role of location for sustainability in the collaborative (or sharing)
economy
* Mobile-based location analytics and applications for sustainability
* Use of GIS and location analytics for sustainability in nonprofit
organizations.

*Track Description*
Workplaces and the way of working are undergoing a process of change,
leading to a digital work environment characterized. In this context,
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking a serious role for different
contexts, such as automatization, data analysis, and predictions. To get
insights from data, different AI techniques and tools can be applied.
These insights can be utilized to further enhance and drive the
digitalization of work. At this point we have not fully understood the
impact of AI on digital work i.e., which chances and risks we can
expect. The impact can be, however, observed on organizational level,
technological level and behavioral level.
Questions, which arise are: How do we manage AI in organizations? What
are the technological requirements for implementing AI in organizations?
How does AI change the way of working? How can we avoid a resistance to
change by employees? How do we design AI transparent and ethical? How
can AI enable digital upskilling and learning in organizations? Overall,
this track raises the question how digitalization changes the work
environment and the way of working in the digital era. In this track, we
welcome conceptual, empirical and design-oriented papers that analyze,
explain or predict implications of AI on the future of work in
organizations, or that design AI-based solutions in the context of
digital work.
/Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:/
* AI-enabled transformation of work processes and routines
* Interaction, collaboration, and communication in a digital work
environment enabled by AI
* Implications of AI on Gender and Diversity at a digital workplace
* Resistance to Change driven by AI
* Ethics and legal aspects in digital work
* Responsible AI at the digital workplace
* Digital upskilling of the workforce enabled by AI
* AI-enabled change and learning processes in organizations
* New ways of working driven by AI
* AI enabled Digital Detox
* Human-AI teams in digital work

*TRACK DESCRIPTION*
In a growing number of industries, new paths of value creation are
enabled by the development of information and communication technologies
(ICT). To remain competitive, companies use ICT to transform their
existing business models or to facilitate new ones. These digital
transformations often affect large parts of organizations, leading to
far-reaching changes in the economy and society. Therefore, it is
important to understand ICT-enabled changes in value creation and
realization, exchanges and combinations of resources, delivery of new
digital services and products, process innovation, and thus, new digital
business models (Hedman and Kalling 2003). In line with the conference
theme, companies also have to monitor the impact on society, including
ethical implications, of their business models and transformation
choices to ensure long-term success.
As an established part of ECIS since 2014, this track will examine the
impact of technological developments on the design of business models
(Veit et al. 2014). Furthermore, the track also invites submissions that
focus on how companies can successfully manage the digital
transformation process (Matt et al. 2015). Submissions are encouraged
from all theoretical and methodological perspectives drawing from IS,
strategic management, and related disciplines.
Topics include but are not limited to:
·ICT as “enabler” of new business models
·Digital transformation of existing business models
·Changes in cost structures or revenue generation through ICT
·Effects of ICT on the organizational structure
·Management of digital transformation processes and leadership concepts
·Development and implementation of digital transformation strategies
·Corporate and entrepreneurial culture in the digital age
·Development of digital competencies within companies
·The impact of ICT on the relationship between firms and their stakeholders
·Sustainable digital transformation and organizational performance

Subject: [AISWorld] AMCIS 2022 - call for mini-track proposals for a
new track "Sourcing in the Digital Age: platforms, crowd and services"
Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2021 07:21:42 +0000
From: Julia Kotlarsky <j.kotlarsky(a)auckland.ac.nz>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>

<j.kotlarsky(a)auckland.ac.nz>
AMCIS 2022 – We are excited to announce a new track - Sourcing in the
Digital Age: platforms, crowd and services. We are calling for
Mini-track Proposals for this track
Sourcing in the Digital Age: platforms, crowd and services
Track Description:
In the digital age, organizations face the challenge of adapting IS
sourcing practices to numerous major changes (Dibbern et al. 2020).
First, digital technologies increasingly permeate the processes,
products, and services of companies (Venkatraman 2017). These include IS
services and products offered by a vibrant and increasingly complex
ecosystem of providers such as consulting companies, standard software
providers, specialized development firms, and digital platforms. Second,
the digital transformation entails a number of concurrent technological
shifts such as the rise of AI and new architectural paradigms (e.g.,
microservices, low-code platforms, and serverless computing) that
fundamentally change the nature of the task that is being sourced.
Examples include relying on intelligent software agents rather than
human actors (e.g., Rutschi and Dibbern 2020), reconfigure firm
boundaries, and add further complexity to the already confusing number
of alternative sourcing arrangements that include multi-sourcing (Oshri
et al. 2019), cloud-services (e.g., Gozman and Willcocks 2018) and
governance mechanisms (e.g., Huber et al. 2013; Kotlarsky et al. 2020).
Furthermore, with the growing popularity of data-driven business models
issues associated with data sourcing are becoming more prevalent (Wiener
et al. 2020). Perhaps even more drastic changes lie ahead in the
outsourcing of information services, amidst emerging technologies such
as “big data,” blockchains, social media, cloud computing, and
artificial intelligence (Sabherwal 2020). To respond to these changes,
sourcing professionals will have to adapt their decision and governance
practices—offering unique opportunities for researchers to advance
understanding of the evolution and socio-technical underpinnings of
sourcing practices (Sarker et al. 2019).
Increasing digitization and digitalization has also given rise to new
sourcing models that leverage digital platforms to engage the “crowd.”
IS researchers have responded to these developments by investigating new
business models that rely on crowd involvement and are mediated by
digital platforms – e.g., business models associated with gig economy
(Wiener et al 2021). This focus on crowdsourcing and digital platforms
(e.g., “online marketplaces” (Gefen and Carmel, 2008), “crowdwork
platforms” (Gol et al. 2019) and “microsourcing platforms” (Guo et al.
2021)) is closely related to the larger phenomenon of IS sourcing (Nevo
and Kotlarsky, 2020).
This track welcomes diverse proposals for mini-tracks that focus on
topics that improve our understanding of how, why, and under what
conditions sourcing can make a positive contribution to the digital
transformation of firms. It also invites mini-tracks that focus on
crowdsourcing and platform-related aspects.

*TRACK DESCRIPTION*
Social media have become part of the work and life of billions of humans
around the globe. Social media platforms facilitate paradigm shifts in
the ways we develop relationships, communicate with each other,
collaborate, procure goods and services, and exchange information. They
allow anyone to virtually share information with a global audience that
becomes, in line with the conference theme, digitally united.
The ubiquitous nature of social media use requires a better
understanding of the role and long-term consequences of this phenomenon
for digital transformation on individual, organizational and societal
levels.
On the one hand, proponents argue that social media promote creation of
social capital, result in increased interconnectedness, or facilitate
empowerment. On the other hand, opponents express strong concerns over
the dangers of social media. The sheer quantity and the sensitivity of
the information users disclose gives rise to strong privacy concerns.
Other undesirable developments include distraction, addiction,
depression, mood disorders. In companies the multivocality, afforded by
social media, can yield tensions for organizational coherence. Finally,
the phenomenon of fake news has recently emerged as a dangerous
development, posing significant challenges for platform providers and
users. Considering both positive and negative impacts of social media,
managers and policy-makers find themselves confronted with a complex
choice of whether these platforms should be regulated and, if so, how.
The twitter-ban of sitting US president Donald Trump can be seen as a,
very recent, milestone in this context.
This track seeks submissions examining the role social media is playing
in transforming the networked society and businesses at large. We
especially encourage research that reaches out beyond IS theories, is
grounded in multiple reference disciplines and applies new intriguing
perspectives to document and understand the transformatory impact of
social media and social media-related smartphone use.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Social media and theories about digital collaboration
- Digital leadership and virtual teams
- Social channels of enterprise knowledge sharing and collaborative work
- Co-existence and interweaving of different online and offline (social)
communication networks in companies
- Blurring boundaries of private and business (e.g. Consumerization,
Shadow IT)
- Social media-enabled business models
- Organizational networking with social media and collaboration technologies
- User behaviour on social media and collaboration platforms
- Success and “health” of online social communities
- Socialness of and in social media and collaboration platforms
- The development and use of social media analytics
- Digital methods for understanding social media collaboration (e.g.
design science approaches, the computational turn; big data methods)
- Critical perspectives on social media (e.g. social and information
overload; technostress).
- Social media and fake news

Subject: The 6th IEEE International Conference on Fog and Edge
Computing (ICFEC 2022)
Date: Mon, 18 Oct 2021 08:04:13 +0200
From: angalletta(a)ieee.org
To: iot-edge-cloud(a)COMSOC.ORG
Dear users of Iot-Edge-Cloud mailing list,
===================================================================================
The 6th IEEE International Conference on Fog and Edge Computing (ICFEC 2022)
May 16, 2022, Taormina (Messina), Italy
in conjunction with IEEE/ACM CCGrid 2022
URL: https://icfec2022.eecis.udel.edu/
===================================================================================
We are delighted to invite you to the 6th IEEE International Conference
on Fog and Edge Computing to be held in Taormina (Messina), Italy.
INTRODUCTION
The number of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices is predicted to reach
38.6 billion by 2025. These connected devices, ranging from user devices
to more complex systems, such as vehicles and power grids, are equipped
with sensing, actuating, communication, processing, and storage
capabilities, and they generate huge amounts of data of various types.
However, the need to operate the scale of heterogeneous IoT devices
while being performance-efficient in real-time is challenging.
Typically, the data generated by the IoT devices are transferred to and
processed centrally by services hosted on geographically distant clouds.
This is untenable given the communication latency incurred and the
ingress bandwidth demand.
A new and disruptive paradigm spear-headed by academics and industry
experts is taking shape so that applications can leverage resources
located at the edge of the network and along the continuum between the
cloud and the edge. These edge resources may be geographically or in the
network topology closer to IoT devices, such as home routers, gateways,
or more substantial micro data centers. Edge resources may be used to
offload selected services from the cloud to accelerate an application or
to host edge-native applications. The paradigm within which the edge is
harnessed is referred to as “Fog/Edge computing†.
The Fog/Edge computing paradigm is expected to improve the agility of
service deployments, to allow the usage of opportunistic and cheap
computing, and to leverage the network latency and bandwidth diversities
between these resources. Numerous challenges arise when using edge
resources, which require the re-examination of operating systems,
virtualization and containers, and middleware techniques for fabric
management. New abstractions and extensions to current programming and
storage models are necessary to allow developers to design novel
applications that can benefit from massively distributed and data-driven
edge systems. Addressing security, privacy, and trust of the edge
resources is of paramount importance while managing the resources and
context of mobile, transient and hardware-constrained resources. The
integration of edge computing and 5G will also bring new opportunities
and unique challenges. Enabling machine/deep learning at the edge is
critical for many applications. Lastly, emerging domains like autonomous
vehicles and smart health need to be supported by fog and edge resources.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The conference seeks to attract high-quality contributions covering both
theory and practice over systems research and emerging domain-specific
applications related to next-generation distributed systems that use the
edge and the fog. Some representative topics of interest include, but
are not limited to:
* Data centers and infrastructures for fog/edge computing
* Mobility management in fog/edge computing
* Distributed and federated machine learning in the fog and on the edge
* 5G and fog/edge computing
* Middleware and runtime systems for fog/edge infrastructures

AMCIS 2022 - Digital Government - Call for Mini-track Proposals
Digital Government Track Description:
Digital government explores the technology enabled transformation of the
public sector. Information Communication Technology (ICT) has been
invading public administration and is changing the ways governments
operate. Initially, digital government was focused on alternative
service delivery mechanism, but nowadays it is now considered as a key
enabler of public sector transformation for improving governance,
including transparency and accountability and citizen participation in
democratic processes and policy making. Digital government changes the
relationships between the government and the public and covers topics
such as multi-channel service delivery, creating transparency,
evidence-based policy-making, transformational government, adoption and
diffusion of technology in government and open government. Agencies
across the globe consistently identify innovative ways to use emerging
tools, trends and technologies such as big data, open data, blockchain,
and the Internet of Things to improve government services. Many
governments have embraced these efforts, but struggle with
implementation and adopting ICTs as part of the service delivery and
policy-making processes. Within the information systems field digital
government has its own niche in terms of practical and theoretical
relevance.
The Digital Government track welcomes a diverse range of mini-tracks! If
you are interested, please submit your mini-track proposal via
