Subject: [AISWorld] 2nd CFP: Journal of Information Technology on
Ethical Issues and Unintended Consequences of Digitalization and
Platformization
Date: Wed, 20 Jan 2021 17:20:14 +0000
From: Rossi Matti <matti.rossi(a)aalto.fi>
To: Isworld <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
This is a 2nd call for papers for this special issue and we believe that
it is very timely given the recent episodes concerning politics and
Twitter and Parler and the role and power of these social networks, and
the infrastructure that they rely on, in the society.
“Ethical Issues and Unintended Consequences of Digitalization and
Platformization”
Special Issue Editors:
Matti Rossi, Aalto University – Finland
(corresponding, matti.rossi(a)aalto.fi)
Christy M. K. Cheung, Hong Kong Baptist University – Hong Kong
Suprateek (“Supra”) Sarker, University of Virginia – USA
Jason B. Thatcher, Temple University – USA
Disruptive digital innovations do not come without pain – the disorder
that they introduce can create negative externalities and unintended
consequences for people, communities, industries and economies. In the
worst case, there is disruption with little innovation. This can lead to
job losses for individuals, loss of human dignity, negative health
impacts, lost revenue for communities, obsolescence of industries and
loss of the traditional values that underpin modern societies. Sarker et
al. (2019) note that “humanistic concerns arising from the curtailing of
human freedom and development, and from racism, sexism and
commodification of the human body are overlooked for the apparent
benefits that systems, including widely used search engines and medical
databases, promise to deliver (Noble 2018; Wachter-Boettcher 2017).
Indeed, there is a rising need for a thorough ethical interrogation of
algorithms (O’Neil 2016) that underlie systems mediating many critical
human activities, so as not to marginalize certain stakeholders,
especially those ‘who are already in the margin’ (Noble 2018, p. 171).”
In this special issue, we take critical, yet constructive view of
technological and social changes associated with “digital
transformation” (Zuboff 2015, Wood et al. 2019, Larsson and Teigland
2020). We are interested in contrarian papers that reject the
taken-for-granted assumptions of positive impacts of technology, as in
cases of digital platforms, telework enabled by mobility, growth of the
gig economy, fintech/blockchain, and so on, and investigate relatively
unexamined platform externalities as a means to identify ways to resolve
paradoxes, discontinuities and challenges posed by technology and the
unintended consequences of technology applications. We also seek papers
that shed light on the problems of information technology (IT)-enabled
phenomena such as the implications of winner-takes-all platform
economics; highlight the social, environmental and economic implications
of blockchain and similar innovative digital technologies; or propose
solutions that mitigate negative societal impacts of innovation (e.g.,
through leveraging the power social networks to disseminate information
and strengthen democratic discourse).
We encourage the submission of manuscripts taking either of two stances:
1. Submissions considering a critical or dystopian view of the social,
technological and moral implications of digitization and digital
transformation. Here, “the dark side” – ethical Issues, unintended
digitalization and other problematic aspects – of digitalization and
platformization are front and centre the argument. An example may be
Zuboff’s (2015, 2019) recent work on surveillance capitalism and her
analyses of large-scale digitization “gone wrong”.
1. Submissions seeking to balance or reconcile “the dark side” and “the
bright side” of digitalization and platformization. Here, analyses,
exemplars and theoretical frameworks considered ethical issues and
negative consequences explicitly, in addition to intended benefits of
digitalization too often exclusively focused on. An example may be
social media research: initial writings trumpeted the benefits of social
media for building relationships, with later work highlighting
problematic behaviours such as cyberbullying or doxxing.
In this special issue, we are open to all forms of inquiry, including
surveys, experiments, case studies, design science projects and
conceptual work that probe “the dark side”, ethical issues and
unintended consequences of digitization, platformization and the rapid
diffusion of digital infrastructures and digital work models based thereon.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Digital Taylorism and the race to the bottom for workers
* Destruction of jobs by “botization”
* Risks for society from fast-spreading false information
* Systemic risks and vulnerability of digital platforms
* Management incompetence in digital transformation
* Risks of IoT and blockchain
* Dark side and ethics of sharing economy and gig economy
* Digital privacy and surveillance capitalism
* Bias in algorithms and artificial intelligence
* Digital inequity and digital divide between “the North” and “the South”
* Fake news, misinformation, and disinformation in social media
* Fake and biased online reviews and co-creation on digital platforms
* The emergence of deep web/darknet marketplaces
* Subjective well-being (e.g., FOMO and social media fatigue)
* Cyberharassment, cyberbullying and cyberstalking
Submission Timetable
Manuscripts will go through no more than two rounds of review.

issue directly to the special issue editors (via email) for early feedback.

2nd International Workshop on Next Generation Information Systems: Emerging
Challenges in Fog and Cloud Computing (NeGIS 2021)
Co-located with CAiSE'21
29th June 2021Melbourne, Australia
www.negis.polimi.it
==========================================================
SCOPE
======
The amount of data and services supported by Information Systems (ISs) has
increased exponentially during the last few years. To improve their
efficiency and reduce costs, modern organizations have been shifting their
services, with part of their ISs, to the Cloud. More recent developments
have shown an inversion towards decentralization and distribution of
applications and services in the huge pool of devices and computing
facilities available nearer to the customers. This shift is due to the
impact of the Internet of Things, which is further increasing the amount of
data to be stored and computed. The next generation of Information Systems
will further push these trends to create seamless and pervasive systems.
Fog Computing, in particular, is the last frontier for ISs, where data and
services can be moved in the continuum of resources between the cloud and
the edge.
In this context, the management of ISs can exploit the diversification of
the resources available, but at the same time is getting more and more
complex and challenging. The management of next-generation ISs should,
therefore, take into consideration the heterogeneity of the cloud/fog
infrastructure. Such complex architecture is posing new challenges in the
management of modern applications, especially in reference to enhancement
of quality of service, security, privacy, and energy efficiency. In
particular, security and privacy need to be considered for the amount of
sensitive data possibly produced, while energy efficiency is central, due
to the high amount of computational nodes involved. Approaches such as
blockchains and distributed learning can be exploited to face these
emerging challenges, but universally accepted solutions for next-generation
ISs are yet to be found.
In this workshop, we aim to collect contributions investigating the
management of cloud and fog computing in next-generation Information
Systems.
Topics include but are not limited to:
-
Modeling, Monitoring, and Managing Cloud and Fog computing solutions
-
Models, methods, and tools for data management in Cloud and Fog Computing
-
Energy-awareness and sustainability in Distributed Information Systems
-
Quality of Service, energy efficiency and security in Fog Computing
-
Blockchain proposals for IoT and edge devices
-
Blockchain-based architectures for Fog Computing
-
Distributed and Federated Learning in heterogeneous Information Systems
-
Synergy between Distributed Information Systems and the Internet of
Things
-
Security and privacy solutions for next-generation Information Systems.
Negis2021 will be co-located in Melbourne with the 33rd International
Conference on Advanced Information Systems (CAISE'21, 28 June-2 July 2021).
BEST PAPER AWARD
=================
The best paper will be considered for publication in the International
Journal of Cooperative Information Systems (IJCIS). To be selected the
paper must include a validation of the proposed approach. The authors of
the paper selected as the best paper will have to provide an extended
version for submission to a fast evaluation track.
KEY DATES
=========
Abstract submission: 22nd February 2021
Full paper submissions: 1st March 2021

Subject: [AISWorld] AMCIS 2021 CFP: Agile Project Management (IT
Project Management Track)
Date: Tue, 19 Jan 2021 11:25:45 +0000
From: Meghann L. Drury-Grogan <mdrury(a)fordham.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
Dear Colleagues,
We are seeking high quality research papers for this minitrack that
investigate various aspects of *Agile Project Management*, sponsored by the
SIG ITProjMgmt. Agile methodologies are a large part of IT project
management. They strive to reduce the cost of change throughout the
software development process and rely heavily on teams and teamwork.
Therefore, a better understanding of the factors that help teams using
agile methodologies drive project success is needed. Further difficulties
for organizations relate to sustaining the use of agile methodologies in
the long-term and the management of a potentially diverse range of agile
projects at the portfolio level. These and related items will be explored
in this minitrack.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- Agile and adaptive IT project management versus traditional management
- Agile project portfolio management
- Best practices in agile project management
- Challenges implementing and sustaining agile methodologies
- Communication and interaction on agile teams
- Controls used in agile teams
- Decision-making and governance in agile teams
- Evaluation and reward systems used by agile teams
- Managing co-located, virtual and/or distributed agile teams
- Trends in agile project management
Agile methodologies strive to reduce the cost of change throughout the
software development process and improve development quality and
timeliness. Though success stories with the adoption of agile methodologies
exist, managers struggle with maintaining agile methodologies in the
long-term.
Agile methodologies rely heavily on teams and teamwork. Therefore,
management must develop a better understanding of factors that agile teams
drive project success. These may include selecting appropriate team
personnel; developing effective team communication processes; creating an
open work environment; ensuring correct decisions are made; implementing
appropriate controls; encouraging continuous customer communication; and
establishing evaluation and reward systems for individual and team
performance.
A further difficulty is managing a potentially diverse range of agile
projects at the portfolio level. Agile project portfolio management
provides opportunities that a traditional project portfolio would not
allow, such as more transparent metrics, frequent management review
meetings, and a quicker readjustment of project priorities and resources.
*Important Dates:*

*CALL FOR PAPERS*
*Second International Workshop on Information Systems Engineering for
Smarter Life 2021*
*(ISESL 2021)***
/Joined to CAISE 2021, Melbourne, Australia, 28 June 2021 - 2 July 2021/
(http://isesl21.cnam.fr/ <http://isesl21.cnam.fr/>)
In the era of Digitalization, new technologies (Internet of Things,
Augmented reality, Cyber-Physical Systems, Cloud Computing, Machine
Learning, and so on) change not only enterprises and organizations
functioning, but also all aspects of human life: robots assisted
disabled people, smart buildings, digital enhanced visits for museums,
serious games for learning… the list is long. These various technologies
are intended to improve or enhance life of Humans. In one way or
another, they contribute to a Smarter Life.
Until now, digital technologies have been brought into the game as silo
solutions. Reasoning holistically about information in the context of a
bank or a manufacturing plant is routine practice. However, it is less
common with emerging technologies for everyday life public digital
application. We deeply believe that methods, models and techniques
inherited from IS engineering research could considerably improve the
way human interact with the digital world and would change the user
experience.
The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers and
practitioners who are interested in the application of disruptive
technologies to Smarter Life. The workshop topics include, but are not
limited to, the application and emerging concepts of rising digital
technologies to different fields of life through the perspective of
information systems:
* Artificial Sentience and Artificial Intelligence
* Machine consciousness
* Cognitive spaces
* Patient experience design and health, Point-of-care diagnosis, E-Health
* Digital heritage
* Sustainable development, Responsible ICT
* Digital education and teaching experience design for World Wide audience
* Smart Home, Smart Buildings, Smart Roads, Smart Cities
* Cyber warfare, Digitalization in law enforcement
* Ethical and philosophical aspects of new technologies usage with Humans.
*Submission:*
The length of the paper should not exceed 12 pages (including all text,
figures, references and appendices) for full papers, or 6 pages for
short papers.
Authors should consult Springer’s authors’ guidelines
<ftp://ftp.springernature.com/cs-proceeding/svproc/guidelines/Springer_Guide…>and
use their proceedings templates, either for LaTeX
<ftp://ftp.springernature.com/cs-proceeding/llncs/llncs2e.zip>or for

XP2021 - 22nd International Conference on Agile Software Development –
Agile Turns Twenty While the World Goes Online
June 14-18 2021 ONLINE https://www.agilealliance.org/xp2021/
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
============================================
XP is the premier Agile software development conference combining
research and practice. It is a unique forum where Agile researchers,
practitioners, thought leaders, coaches, and trainers get together to
present and discuss their most recent innovations, research results,
experiences, concerns, challenges, and trends. Whether you are new to
Agile or a seasoned Agile practitioner, XP 2021 will provide an informal
environment to learn and trigger discussion.
2021 marks 20 years since the publication of the Agile Manifesto, making
it a good time to reflect on the past, the present and the future of
Agile. The strength of XP is the way it enables conversations and the
exchange of ideas between academics and industry practitioners. After
the challenges of 2020 and during these times of great change it is as
important as ever for us to come together and share what we have learnt
over the last year. The conference will run online for a second year
which gives us the opportunity to reach out to a global and diverse
audience, and we particularly welcome proposals from new contributors
and new perspectives. So, we encourage contributions from regular
attendees and newcomers, and look forward to meeting old and new friends
in June 2021.
PROGRAM:
XP 2021 will consist of a 5-day program with sessions that feature
research papers, experience reports, keynotes, panels, workshops,
lightning talks, posters and industry events
SUBMISSIONS:
Submissions solicited below will be reviewed by the program committee
based on relevance, significance, rigor, novelty, replicability, and
quality. In some cases, submissions that have been accepted will be
subject to shepherding by a designated committee member.
The XP 2021 conference proceedings will be published by Springer in the
Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing (LNBIP) series, and
will be open access. Full and short research papers will be published in
the main proceedings before the conference. The post-conference
