Die beschriebenen Entwicklungen werfen zahlreiche Fragen auf
individueller, organisatorischer und gesellschaftlicher Ebene auf.
Dieser Track möchte zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen beitragen und

*Track Description:*
The further development of learning algorithms, the availability of
large amounts of data for learning these algorithms and increasing
computing power have enabled the successful application of functions
from Artificial Intelligence (AI). These functions include speech
recognition, speech processing, image recognition, prediction and
robotics. Developers can use AI functions to improve existing systems
(e.g. translation software) or develop new technologies (e.g.
intelligent loudspeakers). Such information systems are referred to as
AI-based systems. AI-based systems influence the relationship between
man and machine when solving tasks. AI-based systems can support people
in more and more tasks or even solve them independently. In addition,
systems can appear more human and create anthropomorphic perceptions
through the application of AI functions (e.g. through interaction with
speech). AI-based systems enable companies to become more efficient or
to develop new products and services. However, these systems must be
carefully designed and implemented to avoid unwanted effects such as
discrimination through bias in automated decision making. The
developments described raise numerous questions at the individual,
organisational and societal levels. This track aims to help answer these
questions and provide insights into the best possible design and use of
AI-based systems. It is open to all contributions on this topic from all
theoretical and methodological perspectives. We also welcome papers on
the use of AI capabilities for research purposes and the relationship
between AI and Business Informatics (WI).
The topics addressed include, among others:
- Hybrid and advanced intelligence
- Cooperation between man and AI (Human-in-the-Loop)
- AI-based assistance systems
- Development, design and implementation of AI-based systems
- human-robot interactions
- (Excessive) confidence in AI-based systems
- Explainability and transparency of AI-based systems
- Anthropomorphic systems and perception of humanity
- Operational and strategic effects of AI functions
- AI-based data analysis and decision making
- AI-based methods in the WI
- Relationship between the disciplines AI and WI
- Disadvantages of AI-based systems: bias, discrimination and rejection

*WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION*
As our lives become immersed by powerful digital devices and services,
questions of implications for individuals’ lives as well as their social
interactions and structures arise. IS research has traditionally focused
rather on institutional contexts (Baskerville 2011). However, the
digitization of individuals' private contexts offers manifold important
research questions to be solved (Matt et al. 2019). In everyone’s life
outside the organizational context these pertain individual behavior and
decision making and the positive and negative consequences thereof, but
also communication and interactions with other individuals as well as
firms. The emerging fully digitized and connected environment implies
changes to the development, exploitation and management of personal IS.
While particular scenarios (e.g. smart home, connected cars, social
networks) have received some attention in different fields, this
workshop seeks to gather these fragmented views and bring together
researchers interested in the impact of digitization on individuals.
Research in this area is beneficial in two ways. First, understanding
the implications, opportunities and threats of the digitization of
individuals' private lives enables suppliers of digital technologies to
form closer and stronger connections with their customers and to build
services and devices that better match their expectations and improve
their everyday lives. Second, this research can help to develop policies
and practices that improve the usage and exploitation of digital
technologies on a societal level. By encouraging a systematic focus on
the individual, this workshop strives for a common understanding of the
role of the individual and the challenges and opportunities owing to
novel digital technologies.
The 4^th workshop on the Digitization of the Individual will be held in
Munich, Germany, in conjunction with ICIS 2019 and is scheduled for 15
December 2019, 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM. To promote further impactful research
on individuals, strong emphasis during the workshop will be given to
paper development discussions, among others, facilitated by discussants
