*Theme*
In 2020, the Electronic Markets journal will enter its 30^th year of
publication. Along with the journal, the entire field of electronic
markets and networked/electronic business has evolved impressively.
Contrary to the early days in the 1980s, digital value chains and
platforms are inherent in most of today’s business models. Nowadays
referred to as digitalization or digital transformation, this includes
the networking with customers via mobile and online channels, the use of
electronic (real-)time linkages in multi-tier supply chains as well as
the emergence of electronic markets and communication platforms.
Companies such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon (“GAFA”) or Baidu,
Alibaba, and Tencent (“BAT”) have become dominant players and
illustrated the logic of network effects, which are typical for
networked business models. Besides these well-known IT companies, many
start-ups have emerged during the last decades and digital
transformation has spread among traditional businesses as well. At this
point, perception of being a part of digital ecosystems or even shaping
new ecosystems has grown and become critical for competitive advantage
in many industries. This special issue aims to take the opportunity of
the journal’s 30^th volume to call for papers that reflect on the field
from a retrospective (e.g. Clarke and Pucihar 2013, Fischbach et al.
2011) and a prospective (e.g. Alt and Puschmann 2012, Spiekermann et al.
2015) point of view. While the former primarily aims to learn from
analyzing past developments, the latter opens the perspective to
upcoming developments. This might relate to future technological
innovations – for instance, in the field of search engines and
marketplaces or semantic web (“The next Amazon” or “The next Google”) –
as well as to innovations in various business areas such as on, how
marketing, distribution, logistics or needs as mobility and wellbeing or
entertainment are taking place.
*Central issues and themes*
Possible topics of submissions for this special issue focus on the past
and future evolution of electronic markets as well as of networked
business. Topics may include but are not restricted to:
*Evolution of digital ecosystems and the app economy
*Digital transformation of specific industries (e.g. retail, banking,
healthcare)
*Evolution of digital business models (e.g. usage and data driven models)
*Digitalization of business processes (e.g. end-to-end and real-time
processes)
*Modeling and managing digital transformation and innovation
*Decentralization and the future of markets, including risks
*Development of data protection and privacy (e.g. in social media)
*Perspectives from artificial intelligence (e.g. smart mobility, deep
learning and trans humanism)
*Management of digital data (e.g. ownership, linking and quality)
*Analyses on the relationship between technological and organizational
change
We encourage contributions with a broad range of methodological
approaches, including conceptual, qualitative and quantitative research.
Please also consider that position papers and case studies might be
especially suited for this special issue. All papers should fit the
scope of Electronic Markets (for more information see
http://www.electronicmarkets.org/about-em/scope/) and will undergo a
double-blind peer review process. If you would like to discuss any
aspect of the special issue, please contact the guest editors.
*Submission*
Electronic Markets is a SSCI-listed journal (IF 3.818) and requires that
all papers must be original and not published or under review elsewhere.
Papers must be submitted via our the journal’s electronic submission
system at http://elma.edmgr.comand conform to Electronic Markets
publication standards (see instructions and templates at
http://www.electronicmarkets.org/authors). Please note that the
preferred length for research articles is around 8,000 words, excluding
references.

Subject: [AISWorld] BPMinDIT 2019 - Workshop on Business Process
Management in the era of Digital Innovation and Transformation
Date: Mon, 8 Apr 2019 08:59:07 +0200
From: Oktay Turetken <o.turetken(a)gmail.com>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
*** CALL FOR PAPERS ***
*BPMinDIT 2019 - International Workshop on Business Process Management in
the era of Digital Innovation and Transformation: New Capabilities and
Perspectives *
In conjunction with the 17th International Conference on Business Process
Management (BPM 2019), Vienna, September 1-6, 2019
https://sites.google.com/view/bpmindit
The fundamental nature of many organizations is being rapidly transformed
with the ongoing diffusion of digital technologies. In this era,
organizations in many domains are challenged to question their existing
business models and to improve or revolutionize them using new
technologies. Many IT-based initiatives, such as Uber, Car2Go, DriveNow,
Udacity, or Airbnb emerge, and disrupt traditional markets by making use of
those digital technologies. To stay ahead of their competitors, even ICT
giants, such as Google or Amazon, face the need to constantly evaluate and
improve the value they offer for their customers.
These developments are also challenging the role of BPM. Advances in data
analytics and AI, uptake of new technologies (such as blockchain, internet
of things, 3D printing), increased adoption of cloud and mobile
technologies, and new business paradigms, such as service-dominant logic,
open the path for new business processes and new possibilities – or even
necessities - for the application of BPM. We see, for example, how
automated business process management can be used to tightly link business
analytics and business execution in short process-based iterations to
follow quickly changing markets, how real-time data from physical entities
(‘things’ in the IoT sense) is directly injected into decision making in
business processes, or how agile, IT-reliant business models are directly
mapped to executable business processes.
However, the traditional role of BPM in structuring and optimizing
(operational) processes often falls short in making use of these
opportunities. This can risk the position of BPM to act as the driving
force in digital innovation and transformation initiatives. New BPM
capabilities that reflect an explorative-dominant (instead of
exploitation-dominant) view may help in addressing the emerging
opportunities and challenges of digitalization.
In this workshop, we question and investigate the new role of BPM in the
digital era. The goal is to advance our understanding of the BPM
capabilities that organizations require to explore emerging opportunities
of digital innovation and transformation, and cope with related challenges.
We seek contributions on a broad range of topics, including but not limited
to:
* New BPM capabilities to address the opportunities and challenges that
companies are facing due to digital transformation
* The role of BPM practitioners in conceiving, leading and executing
digital innovation and transformation initiatives
* The interplay between business models, processes, and services in the
context of digital transformation
* Process (re)design methods to foster digital innovation
* The mapping of business model innovation to business process
implementation (from business models to business process models)
* The alignment of digital capabilities and business services, and their
composition into processes
* Achieving agility in the engineering of business models, services, and
processes
* The role of organizational process orientation in driving digital
innovation and transformation initiatives
* The support and evaluation of new business models using BPM methods,
tools or techniques (e.g., process simulation, process mining)
* The positioning BPM systems in digital technology platforms, e.g., from
an architectural perspective
* The role of BPM in exploiting digital technologies such as AI, IoT or
blockchain
* BPM capabilities in adaptive, distributed, open socio-technical digital
ecosystems
* New process and governance structures for digital innovation in business
network and ecosystem settings
The intended audience covers both researchers in the BPM field -
particularly those interested in the managerial and architectural aspects
of BPM - and practitioners that initiate, participate in, lead, or execute
digital innovation and/or transformation initiatives.
Experience or application papers that incorporate case studies, focus
groups, Delphi studies, surveys, and employing design science research or
action research methodologies are highly encouraged.

mehreren Journal Special Issues (u.a. “Science and Global Security”)

TRACK: ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY
Minitrack: Advances in Research on Trust, Trusted Systems, and Digital
Technologies
8-11 January, 2020
Grand Wailea Maui
http://hicss.hawaii.edu
Within the 53rd Hawaiian International Conference on System Sciences
(HICSS), we organize a minitrack on Advances in Research on Trust,
Trusted Systems, and Digital Technologies. The 53rd HICSS, one of the
most prominent conferences on Information Systems and Sciences
worldwide, will be held January 8-11, 2020 at Grand Wailea Maui
(http://hicss.hawaii.edu).
We seek to address advances in Advances in Research on Trust, Trusted
Systems, and Digital Technologies. How do new advancements in both
hardware and software technologies change the way we trust and
trust-related processes? What forms will digital trust and trust in
digital environments take? What shapes trust and its consequences? What
are the various risks and vulnerabilities to trust imposed by emerging
algorithmic capabilities, cloud-based platforms, complex platform
infrastructures, and highly distributed peer-to-peer systems? What are
the implications for trust as technologies take on capabilities with
both social and moral agency? Some digital technologies may replace the
trust we now have in institutions, as trust shifts from humans and
central organizations to computers and anonymous decentralized
organizations that know no geographic boundaries. When do trust in
technology and trust in humans complement each other? For example, can
trust and control complement each other in AI adoption? How do trust in
humans, organizations, and technology interact with each other? How can
digital platforms build swift trust? How do trust processes in in
digital platforms and sharing economy context differ from traditional
interpersonal trust models? How does trust in humans differ from trust
in technology? Is it possible that human-like systems exacerbate rather
than compensate weaknesses common in trust assessments? How does
blockchain technology change the way we think about trust? How does
trust evolve as an interplay of trust in different trust referents, e.g.
individuals, technological systems and societal institutions?
We welcome papers that theoretically or empirically advance our
understanding of different forms of trust in technology-mediated
environments, including in societal, organizational,
inter-organizational, network, platform, collective, and interpersonal
contexts. Papers can use any acceptable methodology and theory. We
welcome papers at any level of analysis and encourage papers that take a
cross-level, multi-referent, and/or inter-disciplinary and/or process
perspective. Some possible topic areas include but are not limited to
the following:
· Understanding issues of digital trust and risk in the context of
sharing economy and other platform-based organizations, e.g., in the
digital platform, among the users of the platform, in the organization
behind the platform, and in societal institutions.
· Understanding the relationship between an organization's handling of
its users' data, e.g., privacy/integrity/security, use of the cloud, and
trust in the organization.
· Understanding the relationship between trust in an organization and
trust in the organization's technology-based offerings and understanding
the difference between trust in humans, organizations, and trust in
technology.
· Understanding how regulation and policy at the national and
international levels influence issues of digital trust and the
penetration of technology, e.g., in private and public sector, and the
sharing economy, and vice versa.
· How to leverage trust levels by implementing new forms of digital
trust tools online? How can trust in AI based applications and services
be supported?
· Understanding trust relationships between users and emerging
technologies, e.g., personal robots, smart toys, wearables, personal
voice assistants, 3D printing, autonomous vehicles, drones.
· Understanding the role of trust in the development and implementation
of algorithms, e.g., functions, openness of coding, data collection and
implementation of new services.
· Investigating new digital trust cues that can signal and form trust,
and the interplay of digital and human trust cues.
· Understanding the relationship between trust and the development and
dynamics of self-regulated, decentralized, peer-to-peer networks.
· How does trust change in blockchain technology and cryptography contexts?
· How does trust evolve in complex and multi-layered environments such
as digital platforms and ecosystems?
· Understanding the relationship between national culture and
institutions and trust in technology and digital environments that know
no geographic boundaries.
· Understanding the relationship between trust, identity, control, and
influence in digital environments.

Special Issue on Cloud-Connected Smart Toys
===================================================================
Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (ECRA)
URL:
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/electronic-commerce-research-and-applicat…
Toys have been a part of human existence for thousands of years, across
every culture, and have been uncovered as far back as ancient Egyptian
times. A toy is an item or product intended for learning or play, which
can have various benefits to childhood development. Children's toys have
become increasingly sophisticated over the years, with a growing shift
from simple physical products to toys that engage the digital world, as
with the Internet of Things, and have become connected to cloud
computing. For example, an invention called a Google Toy, a
cloud-connected teddy bear or bunny, is an anthropomorphic device, with
speech and facial recognition functions, that has the ability to control
smart home appliances and other devices. Toy makers are developing
products that combine the characteristics of traditional toys, such as
dolls and stuffed toys, with cloud computing, to produce smart toys. A
smart toy consists of a physical toy component in an electronic form
that connects to clo
ud services through networking and sensory technologies to enhance the
functionality of a traditional toy. A smart toy can easily capture a
player's physical activity state (walking, standing, running), store
personalized information (location, activity patterns) through its
camera, microphone, GPS and various other sensors. Some examples include
Mattel's Hello Barbie, CogniToys' Talking Dino, and Fisher-Price's Smart
Toy Bear. U.K.-based Juniper Research has reported smart toys and
related applications are a new key market for toy companies, and that
their sales will grow from US$2.8 billion in 2015 to US$11.3 billion by
2020.
This virtual special issue (VSI) on cloud-connected smart toys will
examine challenging research issues from both the technical and
sociotechnical perspectives. Its goal is to present novel industrial
solutions to challenging technical and sociotechnical issues, as well as
compelling computing technologies in cloud-connected smart toys and
related applications, such as Amazon Echo, Google Wifi, and Drone. This
VSI will share related practical experience and provide evidence that
computing technologies are playing an ever-increasing and critical role
in supporting smart toys. The work reflects a new cross-disciplinary
research topic in Computer Science, Information Systems, Social Science,
and Design Science.
Deadline for authors to submit papers: *** April 30, 2019 ***
