Cyber-Physical Systems will be held in the scope of MECO’2018 - the 8th
Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing, in Budva, Montenegro,
June 10-14, 2019. Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are smart compound
systems engineered through seamless integration of embedded information
processing sub-systems and physical sub-systems. The vision of smart
systems connected and collaborating through various interfaces and
communication media to form the global Internet of Things (IoT) is not a
science-fiction anymore, but is quickly becoming an actual reality. The
smart collaborating CPS with important applications in virtually all
economic and social segments will have enormous economic and societal
impact. ECYPS’2018 mainly focuses on CPS for modern (mobile)
applications that require high-performance or low energy consumption, as
well as, high safety, security and reliability. It addresses the
applications, specification, validation, architectures, technology,
hardware, software, design methodology and EDA tools for such systems.
Its target participants are academic researchers and teachers;
industrial researchers, developers and decision-makers; and Ph.D.
students. It gives an excellent opportunity to disseminate fresh
research results from European, international and other R&D projects.

MODELS 2019 - Call for Tutorial Proposals
ACM/IEEE 22nd International Conference on Model Driven Engineering
Languages and Systems
15-20 September 2019 Munich, Germany
http://www.modelsconference.org/
***************************************************************
Following the tradition of previous conferences, MODELS 2019 will host
tutorials as part of its satellite events on September 15 to 17, 2019.
Tutorials provide intensive courses on topics in the area of
model-based software and systems engineering ranging from modeling
methodologies and research methods through new modeling tools and
technologies to thoughts on the past, current, and future development
of the modeling discipline.
---------------------
Important Dates
---------------------
- Tutorial proposal submission: March 16, 2019, Anywhere on Earth (i.e.
UTC-12)
- Notification: April 16, 2019
- Tutorials: September 15-17, 2019
---------------------
Audience
---------------------
Tutorials target an audience of practitioners, researchers (academic
and industrial), students, and developers familiar with, and already
working with, modeling techniques. The target audience typically has a
strong interest in Model-Driven Engineering (MDE), including work on
improving and evolving modeling languages (such as UML or DSLs),
developing sophisticated MDE tool support, and using MDE to develop /
test / reverse / maintain complex systems. Potential attendees may
also be interested in how modeling has been applied effectively in
specialized domains (e.g., in the automotive industry), and in
learning about successful uses of MDE methods in real-world
applications.
---------------------
Topics
---------------------
The following themes are examples of what is considered relevant for
tutorials:
- Modeling techniques for specific domains (e.g., automobile,
cyber-physical and hybrid systems, Industry 4.0, Internet of Things,
...)
- Modeling methodologies and model-oriented processes (e.g., for agile
modeling or modeling at scale)
- AI in modeling (including search*based approaches, machine learning,
planning, or flexible modeling)
- Presentation of new tools or new versions of old tools (e.g.,
modeling tools, language workbenches, model transformation languages,
model verification tools, model execution tools)
- Dissemination of project results from industry-related projects
- Teaching of model-driven software development
- Research methods in MD* (Model-Driven Development (MDD), Model
Driven Engineering (MDE), Model Driven Software Development (MDSD),
etc.)
- Modeling for re-engineering and legacy evolution
- Empirical studies in the context of modeling
- User experience in model-based software engineering
- Practical experiences of general interest
- General topics of interest to young researchers, like presentation
skills or research methodologies
Tutorials are intended to provide independent instructions on a topic
of relevance to the audience described above. Therefore, no
sales-oriented presentations will be accepted. Tutorials relating to
commercial tools or involving the use of commercial tools may be
accepted but will be subject to closer scrutiny, including possible
approval of presentation slides. Potential presenters should keep in
mind that there may be quite a varied audience, including novice
graduate students, seasoned practitioners, and specialized
researchers. Tutorial speakers should be prepared to cope with this
diversity.
---------------------
Proposal Contents
---------------------
All submissions must be in English and adhere to the IEEE formatting
instructions
(https://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.ht…).
The submission must include the following information in the indicated
order:
- Title
- Presenters: Name, affiliation, contact information, and short bio.
- Authors of the proposal or tutorial material, who are not going to
be presenting, may be listed, but must be listed last with a footnote
“Author only; will not be presenting”.
- Abstract (maximum of 200 words)
- If accepted, the abstract will be used to advertise the tutorial.
Thus, the abstract should clearly highlight the goals of the tutorial
and the skills that participants will acquire.
- Keywords (at least 5 keywords)
- Proposed length: half-day (3 hours) or full-day (6 hours)
- Regular tutorials should be set up as half-day tutorials (3 hours).
A proposal for a full-day tutorial (6 hours) must be accompanied by a
clear justification of why 6 hours are necessary.
- Level of the tutorial: beginner/introduction or advanced
- Target audience and any prerequisite background required by
attendees to be able to follow the tutorial (beyond average modeling
skills)
- Description of the tutorial and intended outline (maximum of 4 pages)
- Novelty of the tutorial
- List offerings of similar tutorials at previous editions of the
MODELS conference or other conferences, and discuss the differences
with respect to the current proposal
- Required infrastructure
- Declare any infrastructure that you would need for your tutorial
besides a data projector (e.g., flip charts, whiteboards). We will do
our best together with the local organizers to provide you with the
needed infrastructure
- Sample slides (minimum of 6 slides, maximum of 25 slides)
- Supplementary material (optional)
---------------------
Submission Guidelines
---------------------
Proposals must be submitted electronically in PDF format through the
MODELS 2019 Tutorials EasyChair submission page at
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=models2019; Select category
“Tutorials”, by March 16, 2019 AoE.
This is a hard deadline. No extensions will be allowed.
---------------------
Review Process
---------------------
The Tutorials Selection Committee will review each submitted proposal
to ensure high quality, and select tutorials based on their
anticipated benefit for prospective participants and their fit within
the tutorial program as a whole. Factors to be considered also
include: relevance, timeliness, importance, and audience appeal;
effectiveness of teaching methods; and past experience and
qualifications of the instructors. The goal will be to provide a
diverse set of tutorials that attracts a high level of interest among
broad segments of the MODELS participants.
---------------------
Compensation
---------------------
As in previous years, participants will pay a single satellite fee,
which will cover both tutorials and workshops. This permits unifying
the treatment of workshops and tutorials, and it makes tutorials more
attractive to attendees. Under this scheme, tutorial presenters will
not receive monetary compensation and will have to pay their own
registration to the satellite events. By submitting a tutorial
proposal, the presenter accepts that there will be no compensation for
giving the tutorial if accepted and that the registration fees for the
instructors have to be funded by the instructors themselves. The
benefit to the presenter is the opportunity to extend their sphere of
influence to the MODELS community.

Call for Papers
The Department of Informatics at the University of Pretoria is the host for
SAICSIT 2019 (https://saicsit2019.org.za) and we are celebrating 40 years
since the first SAICSIT conference in 1979.
The theme of the conference is “Digital eco-systems gone wild”. We inhabit
a digital ecosystem of connective social media: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter
and many other platforms have become deeply embedded into our lives. We
inhabit an ecosystem of Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and
the Internet of Things (IoT). An ecosystem of networks, of physical objects
embedded with electronics, software, and sensors enabling interconnected
linkages of supply chains, markets and businesses. We inhabit an ecosystem
of Big Data – from a world of terabytes to a world of exabytes. Our
challenge: To make sense of an increasingly ubiquitous technology and
data-rich environment, which if left unchecked, can unleash a host of
unintended consequences.
The conference programme will include research paper sessions, plenary
keynote addresses, panel discussions, industry papers / case studies and
workshops - to cater for a broad audience of participants. The first day –
Monday 16 September 2019 - is devoted to tutorials, workshops and an
all-day Master’s and Doctoral Symposium. The main conference will be held
from Tuesday 17th of September to Wednesday 18th of September 2019.
We hereby invite you to submit a research paper, industry paper, panel

2. Submissions
SAICSIT 2019 is the annual research conference of the South African
national computing society of the same name (*www.saicsit.org
<http://www.saicsit.org>*). It presents researchers with a forum for
presenting research in computer science, information systems, information
technology, software engineering and computer engineering (as defined in
the ACM, AIS and IEEE-CS). SAICSIT 2019 is an international conference and
contributions from all parts of the world are warmly welcomed.
Submission deadlines
Full research papers / industry papers / case studies / workshops /
panels: *6 May 2019* (notification by 17 June 2019)
Masters and Doctoral symposium: *30 June 2019* (notification by 31 July
2019)
Submission format
All submissions will be peer-reviewed by an international panel of experts.
English is the official conference language - all submissions must
therefore be in English.
Submissions in all categories of the SAICSIT 2019 Main Conference and the
Postgraduate Symposium must follow the ACM International Conference
Proceedings Series prescribed format - MS-Word or LaTeX format (with no
additional libraries or special fonts). The template and guidelines for
papers are located on the website at https://saicsit2019.org.za
Papers that do not follow the template may be excluded from the conference
proceedings. The maximum paper length as stipulated in the various
submission categories will be strictly enforced.
For all tracks, only anonymised PDF files must be submitted for review.
Any questions regarding the formatting and uploading of submissions should
be directed to Prof Hanlie Smuts (hanlie.smuts(a)up.ac.za)
All submissions must be made through the online submission system on the
conference web site https://saicsit2019.org.za.
Full research papers
We invite the submission of FULL PAPERS (maximum of 10 pages) to report
original previously-unpublished work in the topic areas of the conference.
Full papers typically report on completed and mature research results.
All full paper submissions will be peer-reviewed by an international panel
of experts. The review process will retain the anonymity of authors and
reviewers. The program committee will consider the following criteria when
evaluating submitted papers: originality of contribution; relevance to the
conference; technical/scientific merit; and presentation and clarity.
Accepted full research papers must be presented at the conference by either
the main author or one of the co-authors. Authors should guarantee the
anonymity of their submissions (by removing names and affiliations from the
first page and elsewhere in the paper, as well as in the name that the
paper is saved as, that would allow reviewers to easily identify authors).
Industry oriented papers / case studies
In a bid to foster more communication between industry and academia,
SAICSIT 2019 solicits INDUSTRY ORIENTED PAPERS and CASE STUDIES from
industry members addressing research taking place in industry.
Specifically, the industry track seeks to:
· Provide a forum for practitioners to discuss insights, successes
and challenges in practical or industry research and development in fields
related to the theme of SAICSIT 2019.
· Identify new challenges, lessons, concerns and issues related to
computing related research and development in the real world. The goal is
to provide researchers with the information required to focus their
activities on real-world issues.
· Highlight new, practical research activities; solved or unsolved
technical, business or organisational challenges, or issues involved in
adopting, maintaining or evolving a computing related product.
· Highlight specific techniques (organisational, architectural,
etc.) used to address computing research and development issues in practice.
In order to encourage industry-based authors who cannot afford the
commitment of writing a full paper to contribute technically to the
proceedings, we invite submissions of extended abstracts of one - two pages
in the prescribed format. Extended abstracts should address topics
consistent with the overall goals of the industry track. Authors are
encouraged to share successes, challenges and unanswered questions — the
objective should be to identify important points for further discussion
during the conference.
Industry oriented papers or case studies are not treated in the same way as
research papers and will be subjected to a separate review process. Only
the extended abstract will be reviewed for appropriateness to the themes of
the conference and will be published in the conference proceedings. Please
note that this is not a marketing platform and submissions that clearly
display a marketing intent will not be considered for presentation.
Industry oriented paper submissions are not anonymous and should contain
the names and contact details of the authors. Send your extended abstract
(1 – 2 pages) directly to Prof Rennie Naidoo (rennie.naidoo(a)up.ac.za).
Panels
We invite proposals for PANELS on stimulating or controversial topics of
current interest within the general scope of the conference.
Topics and/or themes for a panel session may also be proposed by
individuals with an interest in chairing a panel in a topic that intrigues
them. Preference will be given to topics that raise forward-looking and/or
contentious issues, and that promote debate among panel members and
involvement of the audience. All suggestions will be assessed for their
topicality and ability to generate stimulating debate.
Send your proposal (including an abstract of up to 500 words) directly to
Prof Machdel Matthee (machdel.matthee(a)up.ac.za). Submissions for panels are
NOT anonymous and will be reviewed by leaders in the appropriate area. The
proposal should include the proposer’s name and affiliation as well as the
names and affiliations of possible panel members. The description of
accepted panels will be published in the conference proceedings.
Workshops
We invite proposals for WORKSHOPS as satellite events associated with the
conference.
Workshop proposals should include the aim of the workshop; tentative
programme; possible speakers; and expected outcomes.
Send your proposal (including an abstract of up to 1000 words) directly to
Dr Funmi Adebesin (funmi.adebesin(a)up.ac.za). Submissions for workshops are
NOT anonymous and will be assessed for appropriateness and feasibility by
the conference committee. The proposal should include the proposer’s name
and affiliation.
3. South African Computer Journal
The SAICSIT 2019 programme committee will select papers they consider
suitable for extending to journal papers, and invite the authors to submit
an extended paper for *South African Computer Journal* (accredited for
subsidy purposes). The extended paper should:
· include at least 30% new material of substance
· have a new title reflecting the changes
· include a statement of how the extra material changes the paper
Extended papers will be reviewed to *SACJ* standards. *SACJ* levies a
publication fee but does not charge for reading papers (open access).
Should you not have funding to pay the publication fee, this can be waived
at the discretion of the editor-in-chief.
4. Master’s and Doctoral Symposium
SAICSIT 2019 offers postgraduate students at master’s and doctoral levels
the opportunity to actively engage with their peers and established
researchers on the first day of the conference. Successful students will be
required to present their research during the dedicated sessions, and also
will be required to display their work by means of a poster for the
duration of the conference.
Participation is free and open to all CS, IS and IT postgraduate research
students at any stage of their research. The
Postgraduate Symposium provides an excellent opportunity to:
- practise giving conference papers and poster presentations in a
friendly environment;
- present your research to peers and experienced supervisors;
- meet other postgraduate researchers working on similar areas of
research but based in different Research Centres and universities;
- receive feedback on your research.
Call for Participation
The organizing committee now invites candidate participants to apply for
participation in the symposium. The symposium consists of 15 minute
presentations, poster sessions and interactions with guest lecturers
recognized as experts in their fields. There will be two streams for
presentations. These are:

***** SCOPE *****
In the recent years, there has been a rapid development of biological
technologies producing more and more biological data, i.e., data related
to biological macromolecules (DNA, RNA and proteins). The rise of Next
Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies, also known as high-throughput
sequencing technologies, has contributed actively to the deluge of these
data. In general, these data are big, heterogeneous, complex, and
distributed in all over the world in databases. Analyzing biological big
data is a challenging task, not only, because of its complexity and its
multiple and numerous correlated factors, but also, because of the
continuous evolution of our understanding of the biological mechanisms.
Classical approaches of biological data analysis are no longer efficient
and produce only a very limited amount of information, compared to the
numerous and complex biological mechanisms under study. From here comes
the necessity to adopt new computer tools and develop new in silicon
high performance approaches to support us in the analysis of biological
big data and, hence, to help us in our understanding of the correlations
that exist between, on one hand, structures and functional patterns in
biological macromolecules and, on the other hand, genetic and
biochemical mechanisms. Biological Knowledge Discovery from Big Data
(BIOKDD) is a response to these new trends.
