*Talent Attraction through Online Recruitment Websites: Application of Web
2.0 Technologies.*
*Banerjee, P., & Gupta, R. *
*Abstract*
Talent attraction is one of the major challenges for HR managers. With the
rise of online recruitment channels, the number of applicants for a given
job vacancy have increased substantially. In addition, the time taken in
finding the right talent from the huge pool of applications has increased
significantly, adding up to the hiring cycle. In today’s competitive labour
market, employers need to highlight their brand image to prospective
job-seekers, so that there is higher chance of recruiting the best talent
that fits their manpower requirement. In this paper, an attempt is made in
investigating that to what extent web 2.0 technologies such as podcasts,
blogs and online employee testimonials may enhance the employer's brand
value in the eyes of employed professionals. A multi-group moderated
mediation analysis is conducted with 361 working professionals who are
active online recruitment platform users. The analysis helps establish the
effect of the perceived quality and credibility of career websites on
job-seekers’ perception about the employer and on their subsequent
application intention. The findings reveal positive effect of video
podcasts and realistic employee testimonials presented through third party
blogs on job-seekers’ perceived quality and credibility of the job
advertisement. This phenomenon is reflected in their heightened attraction
for the employer and eventual intention to apply for jobs at the firm.

*Drivers of Employee Engagement in Global Virtual Teams.*
*Shaik, F., & Makhecha, U *
Abstract
Global Virtual Teams (GVTs) comprise geographically distributed groups of
people collaborating with each other through technology-mediated
communication. Members of GVTs are from different cultural backgrounds and
time zones, who may (or may not) meet in person to take complex decisions
or to deliver on the tasks that are of strategic importance. Though
technology has enabled GVTs in almost all multinational organisations
across all industries, keeping the members of GVTs engaged over the
duration of the team's task or project could still pose a challenge for
organisations. Employee engagement is defined as an employee's cognitive,
behavioural and physical state directed towards organisational outcomes.
While employee engagement has been researched in a collocated team context,
it remains an under-researched area in the context of GVTs. Given that
there are several characteristics of GVTs which are distinct from the
collocated team, it warrants a separate inquiry, which we undertake in this
study. This study uses the Job Demands-Resources theory of employee
engagement to derive the drivers of employee engagement in GVTs. Through
interpretive analysis of the lived experiences of members working in an
organisation which extensively uses GVTs for achieving its strategic goals,
we conceptualise five drivers of employee engagement, namely, cultural
intelligence, communication (formal and informal), technology, trust and
individual maturity.

*Impact of Supervisors’ Perceived Communication Style on Subordinate’s
Psychological Capital and Cyberloafing.*
*Agarwal, U *
*Abstract*
Drawing from Conservation of Resources Theory (COR), the purpose of this
paper is to examine the impact of supervisor’s perceived communication
style (passive, aggressive, and assertive styles) on subordinates PsyCap
and cyberloafing. The study also tests the mediating role of PsyCap in the
relationship between perceived communication style (CS) of supervisor and
cyberloafing. In total, 680 full-time managerial employees from seven
diverse firms in India were studied through questionnaire survey. Standard
instruments were used to assess the constructs. Results revealed that
perceived CS of supervisors-assertive, aggressive and passive styles have
an impact on cyberloafing. PsyCap partially mediated the relationship
between supervisors perceived assertive and aggressive perceived CS and
cyberloafing. Theoretical contributions and managerial implications of the
study are discussed.

*Expectation from Technology and Career Satisfaction: A study among IT
Professionals in India. *
*Tomer, G., & Mishra, S *
*Abstract*
Technology is an integral part of the work life of any information
technology (IT) professional. However, the influence of technology on
career related outcomes of IT professionals is at best limited. Using the
P-E fit perspective, the present study investigated the implications of the
perceived fit/ misfit between the expected and the experienced career
growth and work-life balance from the technology the IT professionals are
working in on their career satisfaction. Based on response surface
methodology and polynomial regression analysis of the data collected from
286 IT professionals, the study found that not only the fit, but also the
misfit between expected and experienced technology led career growth and
work-life balance is important in explaining career satisfaction.
Implications of the study for both research and practice were discussed.

CALL FOR PAPERS
=====================================================================
Second Workshop on Fairness in User Modeling, Adaptation, and
Personalization (FairUMAP 2019)
At the ACM Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation, and Personalization
(UMAP 2019)
9 – 12 June, 2019, Larnaca, Cyprus
Workshop website: https://fairumap.wordpress.com/
Conference website: http://www.cyprusconferences.org/umap2019/
---------------------------------------------------------------------
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Personalization has become a ubiquitous and essential part of systems that
help users find relevant information in today's highly complex
information-rich online environments. Machine learning, recommender
systems, and user modeling are key enabling technologies that allow
intelligent systems to learn from users and adapt their output to users'
needs and preferences. However, there has been a growing recognition that
these underlying technologies raise novel ethical, legal, and policy
challenges. It has become apparent that a single-minded focus on the user
preferences has obscured other important and beneficial outcomes such
systems must be able to deliver. System properties such as fairness,
transparency, balance, openness to diversity, and other social welfare
considerations are not captured by typical metrics based on which
data-driven personalized models are optimized. Indeed, widely-used
personalization systems in such popular sites such as Facebook, Google News
and YouTube have been heavily criticized for personalizing information
delivery too heavily at the cost of these other objectives.
Bias, fairness, and transparency in machine learning are topics of
considerable recent research interest. However, more work is needed to
expand and extend this work into algorithmic and modeling approaches where
personalization and user modeling are of primary importance. In particular,
it is essential to address these challenges from the standpoint of
understanding stereotypes in users’ behaviors and their influence on user
or group decisions.
The 2nd Workshop on Fairness in User Modeling, Adaptation, and
Personalization aims to bring together experts from academia and industry
to discuss ethical, social, and legal concerns related to personalization
and user modeling with the goal of exploring a variety of mechanisms and
modeling approaches that help mitigate bias and achieve fairness in
personalized systems.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
TOPICS OF INTEREST
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following.
- Bias and discrimination in user modeling, personalization and
recommendation
- Computational techniques and algorithms for fairness-aware
personalization
- Definitions, metrics and criteria for optimizing and evaluating
fairness-related aspects of personalized systems
- Data preprocessing and transformation methods to address bias in training
data
- User modeling approaches that take fairness and bias into account
- User studies and other empirical studies to evaluate impact of
personalization on fairness, balance, diversity, and other social welfare
criteria
- Balancing needs of multiple stakeholders in recommender systems and other
personalized systems
- "Filter bubble" or "balkanization" effects of personalization
- Transparent and accurate explanations for recommendations and other
personalization outcomes
---------------------------------------------------------------------

5th International Workshop on Information Value Management - Challenges
in an
Area of Digitalisation and Big Data - IVM 2019
3 - 5 May, 2019 - Heraklion, Crete, Greece
In conjunction with the 21st International Conference on Enterprise
Information Systems - ICEIS 2019
http://www.iceis.org/IVM.aspx
Paper Submission deadline: March 7, 2019
SCOPE:
===========================
Recent advances in technology such as Internet of Things, Analytics and Big
Data lead not only a technology revolution but also offer a magnitude of
business benefits. With the arrival of Industry 4.0, the Big Data created
within the Internet of Things is so enormous that it cannot be fully
processed
in conventional databases. Thus new challenges in an area of
Digitalisation and
Big Data have created opportunities to explore the information value
using data
analytics. In order to drive the next horizon of operational
effectiveness, Big
Data solutions are used to optimize business processes and reduce
decision-making time etc.. Given the complex nature of the information,
Big Data and IoT are demanded to address the interaction and flexibility
issues among the new intelligent objects. By providing increasing access
to Data and advanced capabilities to analyse large amounts of data we
need to re-examine the value contribution of insights and impacts these
technologies offer to business.
With this workshop we aim to provide an international forum that explores
various business benefits of data and information. Information creates
not only
value in financial terms but also in terms of operational and strategic
advantages. Thus exploring the value of information and its management is
crucial to the success of world-leading organizations. The value of
information
can be determined by its importance to and the impact information has on the
business operations such as decision making, strategy development or
optimizing
supply chains. However, the issue of how to manage the value of
information is
still challenging and research so far could only address limited aspects. It
has been argued that if information result in enhanced business value, the
focus needs to shift from project based cost/benefit analysis to
managing the
overall value creation of information. Furthermore, over the last decade
a move
from solely technical aspects to a combination of multiple contextual
factors
such as technology, sector, organizational culture, and management style
can be
observed. The information systems literature has consistently emphasized the
need for alignment of information systems with organizational goals and
strategies and its impact on organizational performance. One of the key
challenges and subject of continuous debate focuses on how to achieve,
measure,
increase and manage information and the value it creates to
organisations. It
has been concern to researchers and management for many years and the
difficulty in measuring less tangible benefits has been emphasized. With
this
workshop we aim to go beyond traditional IT productivity and cost
evaluations;
we view information as a crucial asset that creates value to an
organizations,
and thus needs to be managed accordingly for optimal business value.
In this workshop, we aim to provide a platform for discussing approaches,
models, results and case studies or experience reports addressing a
broad range
of issues related to Information Value Management. Research challenges
include
how to determine the Value of Information and its impact on business
performance, managing Data and Information Quality, capturing and
maintaining
Information Assets, and designing and improving Information Manufacture
System.
Papers can include and discuss various research methods and can be based on
case studies, quantitative and quantitative methods, design science as
well as
experimental and simulation. In addition practical oriented research and
experience reports are encouraged.

and Process (IF 1.167).
***** SCOPE *****
The design of modern Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) comprises systems of
systems that include several heterogeneous components. Manufacturers of
such systems have to address several networking, dynamic and uncertain
environmental constraints. CPSs are often safety-critical, i.e., any
malfunctioning of the system may seriously harm its user. However, the
involved communicating peripherals also necessitate the consideration of
security issues, so that the proper functioning of a CPS is not affected
by cyber-security threats.
The engineering of a CPS requires high safety integrity levels and
strong assurances for their fitness for public use against safety
hazards and cyber-security threats. Considering safety and security
requirements in the design of CPS increases their reliability,
confidentiality, integrity and availability. This also ensures the
continuous provision and protection of essential services and assets.
However, contemporary systems and software engineering methods and
approaches are often not adequate for the high-confidence design and
manufacturing of CPSs. This is especially true within the era of big
data.
***** TOPICS *****
The overall aim of this workshop is to address a broad range of issues
