Studierende aller Standorte und Fachrichtungen der Wirtschaftsinformatik sind aufgerufen, qualitativ hochwertige Arbeiten einzureichen. Auch Studierende, die keinen eigenen Beitrag einreichen, sind herzlich willkommen, die Vorträge zu besuchen sowie am Rahmenprogramm des Student Tracks teilzunehmen. THEMEN Der Student Track ist offen für verschiedene Schwerpunktthemen der Wirtschaftsinformatik. Eingeladen werden Beiträge, die sich aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven mit der Gestaltung und Nutzung von Informations- und Kommunikationssystemen in Organisationen befassen. Der Student Track soll Freiräume bieten, individuelle thematische Ausrichtungen der Studierenden zu berücksichtigen. Sämtliche Themen der Wirtschaftsinformatik sind willkommen, z.B. Business Process Management, Business Engineering, Business Transformation, Customer Relationship Management und Business Intelligence. Mögliche Anwendungsbereiche sind u. a. eBusiness, eBanking, eLearning, eGovernment und eHealth. Themen im Fokus sind u. a. Social Media, Mobile Applications sowie Sustainability und Green IT/IS. Lee, Virginia Commonwealth University Abstract Qualitative research in the information systems (IS) discipline has come a long way, from being dismissed as “exploratory research” or “preresearch,” not worthy of being featured in “scientific” and authoritative journals in the discipline, to a state where such research is seen as legitimate and even welcome scholarship within much of the mainstream IS research community. Despite these very positive developments in line with the value of pluralism that our discipline has embraced, and the gradual inclusion of qualitative work in high-profile mainstream outlets, recent editorials have expressed concerns regarding the research community’s lack of awareness about the diverse nature of qualitative research and the apparent confusion regarding how these diverse approaches are different. Such confusion has led to a mismatch between the methodology-related expectations of evaluators and the methodological description provided by the authors (Conboy et al. 2012; Sarker et al. 2013a). To help make sense of the situation, in this editorial, we offer a critical commentary on the arena of qualitative research in the IS discipline. In viewing the adoption of qualitative research in the IS discipline as an evolutionary process, by highlighting key differences among various types of qualitative inquiry, and by drawing attention to lessons learned from the first-generation of qualitative approaches adopted in the IS discipline, we offer a number of implications for both authors and evaluators of qualitative manuscripts. Nault, University of Calgary Abstract Sharing platforms such as zilok.com enable sharing of durable goods among consumers, and seek to maximize proﬁts by charging transaction-based platform fees. We develop a model in which consumers who have heterogeneous needs concerning the use of a durable good decide whether to purchase and share (i.e., be a lender) or borrow (i.e., be a borrower), and a monopoly sharing platform determines the platform fees. We ﬁnd, ﬁrst, that consumers with greater need to use a durable good purchase and share, and that consumers with lesser need borrow. Second, sharing platforms maximize proﬁts only if the supply of a durable good matches demand—that is, the market must clear in order for platform fees to be proﬁt maximizing. Third, the market-clearing condition requires lender and borrower fees are classic strategic complements. Fourth, to maintain the market-clearing condition, sharing platforms have to increase their lender fee or decrease their borrower fee in response to increases in the sharing price, increases in usage capacity, and decreases in the purchase price of a durable good, and vice versa. The Effects of Antineutralization, Informational, and Normative Communication on Information Security Compliance Jordan B. Barlow, University of St. Thomas Merrill Warkentin, Mississippi State University Dustin Ormond, Creighton University Alan Dennis, Indiana University - Bloomington Abstract Organizations use security education, training, and awareness (SETA) programs to counter internal security threats and promote compliance with information security policies. Yet, employees often use neutralization techniques to rationalize noncompliant behavior. We investigated three theory-based communication approaches that can be incorporated into SETA programs to help increase compliance behavior: (1) informational communication designed to explain why policies are important; (2) normative communication designed to explain that other employees would not violate policies; and (3) antineutralization communication designed to inhibit rationalization. We conducted a repeated measures factorial design survey using a survey panel of full-time working adults provided by Qualtrics. Participants received a SETA communication with a combination of one to three persuasion statements (informational influence, normative influence statement, and/or an antineutralization), followed by a scenario description that asked for their intentions to comply with the security policy. We found that both informational (weakly) and antineutralization communication (strongly) decreased violation intentions, but that normative communication had no effect. In scenarios where neutralizations were explicitly suggested to participants, antineutralization communication was the only approach that worked. Our findings suggest that we need more research on SETA techniques that include antineutralization communication to understand how it influences behavior beyond informational and normative communication. However, there is wide variance in the outcomes of the IT-embedded product (ITEP) innovation process. In this paper, we posit that the IT unit’s involvement in the ITEP innovation process could positively influence the outcomes. ITEP innovations become part of complex ecosystems in which they interact with their developers, customers, and other ITEPs. These developments suggest new roles for IT units of organizations. Yet, there is dearth of theory explaining how the IT unit of a firm could contribute to the firm’s development of ITEP innovations in ways to create customer value and improve firm performance. This paper seeks to address this gap. ITEP innovations present new challenges for organizations. This paper builds on complexity science to articulate the challenges and explain how the IT unit can increase an organization’s capacity to cope with them. First, the paper adopts Wheeler’s (2002) “net-enabled business innovation model” to structure the key stages of innovation that an organization goes through in developing new ITEPs. Second, the paper articulates IT-specific uncertainties and challenges entailed in each of the four stages. Third, the paper develops hypotheses explaining how the IT unit could increase the effectiveness of each stage by helping to address these uncertainties and challenges. Finally, the paper empirically tests and finds support for the hypotheses in a sample of 165 firms. The paper contributes to the literature on IT-enabled business innovations by developing and validating a new theoretical explanation of how IT units increase the effectiveness of the ITEP innovation process. The objective is to explore and exchange knowledge in this field through scientific talks, industry discussions, contests, technical tutorials and panels. The conference covers all aspects of process mining research and practice, including theory, algorithmic challenges, applications and the connection with other fields. Process mining is an innovative research field which focusses on extracting business process insights from transactional data commonly recorded by IT systems, with the ultimate goal of analyzing and improving organizational productivity along performance dimensions such as efficiency, quality, compliance and risk. By relying on data rather than perceptions gained from interviews and workshops, process mining shifts the way of thinking from "confidence-based" to "evidence-based" business process management. Thus, process mining distinguishes itself within the information systems domain by its fundamental, evidence-based focus on understanding, analyzing, and improving business processes. Compared with other data-driven research areas such as machine learning or data mining, process mining differs in the fundamental assumptions that data is generated in the context of more or less structured processes, and that the data contains explicit references to instances of these processes. Another key difference with other data-analysis techniques is that analysis results have to be explained in the context of these (interacting) processes. Current process mining challenges include scalability, i.e. dealing with volume, velocity and variability of input data, especially in real-time/online settings using event streams; approximation, i.e. balancing computation time with accuracy; understandability and explainability, i.e. providing easy-to-understand and explainable analytics; multi-perspective analysis, i.e. considering data, resources and time beyond the process control flow; measurability, e.g., providing a comprehensive framework for measuring differences between observed and modelled process behavior, and ethical aspects of process mining, i.e. how to ensure that process mining procedures and results do not violate ethical principles. ICPM 2019 will take place in Aachen, Germany, under the auspices of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and supported by the IEEE Task Force on Process Mining. Aachen, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, is well-known for its historic old-town center and the lively student life. Aachen offers many places of interest, including Aachen Cathedral in the heart of the city. The building was completed at the end of the 8th century by Emperor Charlemagne and became the first UNESCO World Heritage site in Germany. The Elisenbrunnen fountain represents Aachen as a spa and bathing city. Not only the Romans appreciated these hot springs, but also Charlemagne. ICPM will be co-located with the 40th International Conference on Application and Theory of Petri Nets and Concurrency (Petri Nets 2019), and the 19th IEEE International Conference on Application of Concurrency to System Design (ACSD 2019). The three events will take place in the conference area of the Tivoli football stadium close to the Aachen's city center. ICPM 2019 encourages papers on new techniques and applications for process mining, as well as case studies coming from industrial scenarios. Also, papers describing novel process mining tools are expected. For new techniques, the availability of an implementation (which has to be accessible by the reviewers) is essential. Authors are expected to provide insights into the performance of new techniques on established, publicly-available benchmark datasets, or to release their datasets for replicability purposes. Empirical papers should build, where possible, on novel datasets previously unpublished, while research on existing datasets must clearly explain the novelty of the applied analysis. The thematic areas in which contributions are sought include, but are not limited to, those listed below.
