Knowledge flows occur between individuals, among groups of individuals,
community members, and among other entities such as countries,
institutions, communities, firms, and networks. This mini-track focuses on
examining the nature and role of knowledge flows (e.g., knowledge exchange,
knowledge transfer and knowledge sharing) among entities. Technical,
managerial, behavioral, organizational, and economic perspectives on
knowledge flows will be accepted and presented in this mini-track.
Potential topics that this minitrack will address are:
· The effects of consumerization of IT (COIT) on knowledge flows
· Knowledge flows and Internet of Things (IoT)
· Knowledge sharing, flows, and transfer within the context of
Social Media
· Design of information and communication systems that facilitate

Papers are invited for the "CREATIVITY: RESEARCH & PRACTICE" Minitrack
as part of the Collaboration Systems and Technology Track at the Hawaii
International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS).
Innovation is a critical force in organizational performance and
survival. Changes in technology, globalization, and increased
competition have all created an environment in which creativity and
innovation are needed in order to cope with situational and economic
pressures and frequent changes. Designers and Developers of
organizational systems must therefore innovate almost continuously to
keep the organization aligned with such changes. Creativity is a
critical pre-condition for innovation. Generating novel and creative
ideas are the key to innovation and growth in every organization today.
Providing employees, customers and partners with tools to think
creatively has been proven to increase innovation in organizations.
Research shows that organizations which have established skill-bases and
tools for creativity outperform the competition in terms of revenue,
rolling out new products, innovation and growth. Though organizations
deploy groups for most creative processes, there has b
een little research in the area of group creativity. Most creative
research is focused on individual factors affecting creativity. Many
challenges that arise from pursuing creativity in teams remain unexplored.
This Minitrack provides one of the key international platforms on which
the following topics can be discussed (related topics not listed are
especially welcome):
1. Methods & techniques to improve creativity in teams and crowds
2. Open Innovation, idea competitions, co-creation, and creativity
through social media
3. Design and evaluation of platforms, systems, and technologies for
enhancing creativity
4. Challenges and opportunities for creativity in teams, crowds, and
organizations 5. Theoretical foundations for creativity at individual,
group, crowd, and organizational levels
6. Practical approaches to foster creativity at individual, group,
crowd, and organizational levels
7. The creation and implementation of innovations in teams, crowds, and
organizations
8. Factors affecting creativity in individuals, teams, crowds, and
organizations
9. Multi-level issues of creativity in teams, crowds, and organizations
10. Multi- and inter-disciplinary approaches to creativity
11. Creative collaboration between business partners and customers (e.g.
open innovation and co-creation of products and services)
12. Managing creative projects
Thus, papers are welcome that contain original ideas on how to improve
creativity and innovation through all phases of problem-solving:
Understanding a problem, devising potential solutions, evaluating
alternatives, making choices, making plans, taking action, and
after-action review. We seek papers that suggest methodical, technical,
theoretical, or practical improvements for realizing creative ideas in
the workforce as innovations, for an organization cannot benefit from
its creativity until its ideas are implemented.
There are no preferred methodological stances for this minitrack: this
minitrack is open to both qualitative and quantitative research, to
research from a positivist, interpretivist, or critical perspective, to
studies from the lab, from the field, design-oriented or developmental
in nature.

Papers are invited for the minitrack on "Social & Psychological
Perspectives in Collaboration Research" as part of the Collaboration
Systems and Technology Track at the Hawaii International Conference on
System Sciences (HICSS).
One of the major assets of any organization is its people. Understanding
of the people and their social, psychological, cultural, and emotional
environment helps organizations develop systems and processes that can
lead to a productive workplace. Changes in technology, globalization,
and increased competition have all created an environment in which an
understanding of people is the critical link that is needed in order to
survive and thrive in today's competitive environment.
Technology supported collaboration and communication between individuals
entails complex social and psychological situations. An understanding of
social and psychological aspects of collaboration is essential to
creating and sustaining productive work environments. The use of
collaboration technologies and social media and the consequences of such
use are framed by the psychological and social factors concerning the
users and their work environment. It is important to understand these
factors to successfully facilitate the sustained implementation and use
of these technologies. Further, knowledge of the psycho-social aspects
of technology-supported collaboration and communication also assists in
detecting, avoiding, and effectively resolving the issues that may arise
from using such technologies.
This minitrack provides one of the key international platforms to host
research with a social/psychological perspective on studying issues
related to the dynamic interplay between people, their environment, and
the collaboration and social technologies they use. Examples of areas
relevant to the minitrack include but are not limited to:
1. Personality, behavioral, and social factors related to communication
and collaboration groups, crowds, and organizations 2. Social and
psychological effects of using collaboration systems 3. Attractions and
affiliations in groups and crowds arising from use of social networks
4. Team/group/crowd psychology and use of communication technologies
5. Psycho-social factors influencing acceptance and implementation of
collaboration technologies
6. Collaboration studies using social psychology (e.g. Motivation,
Trust, Social learning, Self-efficacy, Behavioral theories) or
organizational psychology (e.g. Self-monitoring, Interpersonal
treatment, OCBs, Globalization)
7. Virtual leadership, leadership at a distance, and other
technology-supported leadership styles
8. Motivating employees to adopt, create, use collaborative work practices
9. Impact of communication technologies on perceptions of self and others
10. Emotion and networking technologies
11. Collaboration research using cultural psychology
12. Attractions and affiliations in groups, group psychology 13.
Internet (mis)use and social/psychological well-being, harassment,
bullying, addictions
14. Social and interpersonal implications of communications over cyberspace
15. Altruism, conformity, and other social factors in online communications
Thus, we invite any paper that contains original research highlighting
the human component in collaboration and communication technologies.

In this workshop, we are interested in the application and challenges of
decision-based, rule-based and hybrid modelling in all phases of the BPM
lifecycle (identification, discovery, analysis, redesign, implementation
and monitoring).

* Scope *
Processes and business process models involve rules and decisions
describing the premises and possible outcomes of specific situations.
However, important though they are, rules and decisions are often hidden
in process flows, process activities or in the head of employees (tacit
knowledge), so that they need to be discovered using state-of-art
intelligent techniques. For knowledge-intensive processes it is common
that rules and decisions, as opposed to the process-flow, define the
allowed behaviour of a process. E.g., the major purpose of an insurance
claim process is to ensure that the rules governing the claim are being
followed and to arrive at a final decision.
While traditional imperative notations such as BPMN excel at describing
"happy paths", they turn out to be rather inadequate for modelling rules
and decisions. Imperative notations indeed tend to describe possible
behaviour as alternative, restricted flows. But encompassing all
possible variations makes imperative models cluttered and thus
impractical in highly flexible scenarios. Against this background, a new
declarative modelling paradigm has been proposed that aims to directly
capture the business rules or constraints underlying the process. The
approach has gained momentum in recent years, and several declarative
notations have been developed such as Declare, DCR Graphs, DMN, GSM and
eCRG. Lately, there has been a rapidly growing interest in hybrid
approaches, which combine the strengths of different modelling paradigms.
In this workshop, we are interested in the application and challenges of
decision- and rule-based modelling in all phases of the BPM lifecycle
(identification, discovery, analysis, redesign, implementation and
monitoring).
The purpose of the workshop is therefore:
- To examine the relationship between rules, decisions and processes,
including models; not only to model the process , but also to model the
rules and decisions.
- To enhance rule and decision mining based on process data (e.g. event
logs)
- To examine decision goals, structures , and their connection with
business processes, in order to find a good integration between rule-
and decision-based modelling and flow-based modelling.
- To examine standards (DMN, CMMN, BPMN) and their integration.
- To study how different process models can be designed to fit a
decision process, according to various optimization criteria, such as
throughput time, use of resources, etc.
- To study the integration between different modelling paradigms.
- To show best practices in separating process, rule and decision concerns.

* Format of the Workshop *
The workshop will begin with a keynote, followed by presentations of
accepted papers. Full papers have 20 minutes for their presentations and
10 minutes for discussion and Q&A. Short papers have 15 + 5 minutes. At
the end of the workshop, there will be a closing panel discussion.
Each manuscript will be reviewed by at least three program committee
members guaranteeing that only papers presenting high quality work and
innovative research in areas relevant to the workshop theme will be
accepted.
All accepted papers will appear in the workshop proceedings. They will
be distributed electronically on USB sticks. The post-proceedings will
be published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Business Information
Processing (LNBIP) series, in a single volume dedicated to the
proceedings of all BPM workshops. During a time window after the
conference the workshop participants will be granted the free download
of the papers.
* Submission *
Prospective authors are invited to submit papers on any of the topics of
the workshop. Papers must be written in English. The following types of
submission are accepted:
- full research papers and experience papers (max. 12 pages),
- short papers (position paper, work in progress, software
demonstration; max. 6 pages).
Submissions must be prepared according to the Lecture Notes in Computer
Science (LNCS) format specified by Springer (see instructions [1]). The
title page must contain a short abstract and a list of keywords,
preferably using the list of topics given above. Papers should be
submitted electronically via EasyChair [2].
At least one author of each accepted manuscript must register for the
workshop and present the paper.

Organizational knowledge/KM initiatives are more and more faced with the
advance of new technologies like cognitive computing, virtual assistants,
and blockchain. Organizations need to assess such technologies’ 1)
potentials, benefits, and challenges in general and for their knowledge/KM
initiatives in particular; 2) impact on their technology landscape,
processes, and culture; as well as 3) how they could be implemented and
appropriated in an organizational context and as part of (existing)
knowledge systems. Besides studying these aspects, this minitrack explores
research into strategies, methodologies, and stories that relate to
leveraging the potential benefits of those new technologies in an
organizational context.
We welcome both behavioral research as well as design science and design
theory research related to the appropriation of the new technologies.

Research into knowledge systems, knowledge management (KM), organizational
memories, and organizational learning has been affected by investigations
such as implementation aspects, system developments, or knowledge flows
during a number of years. Therefore, a high maturity level of KM research
has been achieved. However, organizational knowledge/KM initiatives are
more and more faced with budget cuts and justification demands due to
intense competition in today’s business environments. The influences of the
rapid pace of globalization and of the ongoing liberalization of national
and international markets lead to the emergence of increased pressure on
existing companies. Project managers of knowledge/KM initiatives like Chief
Knowledge Officers need to justify their budgets and, thus, are in need of
qualitative and quantitative evidence of the initiatives’ success. In
addition, ROI calculations and traditional accounting approaches do not
tell an adequate story when proposing knowledge-based initiatives.
This minitrack explores research into strategies, methodologies, and
stories that relate to measuring this success. In addition, this minitrack
will be used to explore the bodies of performance measurements that define
the current state of research in measuring knowledge system, KM,
organizational memory, and organizational learning success. Eventually,
another purpose of this minitrack is to present research on how to value
knowledge-based initiatives.
Possible topics include:
· Frameworks and models for assessing knowledge systems, knowledge
management, and/or organizational memory systems
· Methodologies and processes for measuring knowledge systems,
knowledge management and/or organizational memory success and performance
· Impact of knowledge use, knowledge management strategy,
organization, systems, culture, and other issues on knowledge
management/organizational memory success
· Organizational effectiveness/efficiency due to knowledge
management/organizational memory/organizational learning, knowledge and
organizational memory use
· Knowledge systems, knowledge management, organizational memory,
and organizational learning metrics
· Knowledge systems, knowledge management, organizational memory,
and organizational learning success factors and key performance indicators
· Benchmarking of knowledge systems/knowledge
management/organizational memory initiatives
· Case studies of knowledge systems, knowledge management and
organizational memory success and performance measurements
· Measuring knowledge systems, knowledge management and/or
organizational memory performance in global organizations and globally
dispersed communities
· Effectiveness and/or efficiency of knowledge systems/knowledge
management/organizational memory systems
· Modeling and measuring the impact of social software on knowledge
system/knowledge management performance
· Defining knowledge systems, knowledge management and
organizational memory success
· Rigorous anecdotes and user stories and their theoretical basis to
facilitate the value of knowledge-based initiatives
· Developing grounded theory approaches to valuing knowledge-based

High quality papers will receive a consideration for fast track
publication in Information Systems Management journal in the 2019 issue.
The development of the Internet, social media, distributed databases,
and a variety of mobile devices has caused a huge increase in data. Much
of this diverse data in unstructured and structured forms has a high
business value and, if properly utilized, can become an important
organizational asset. It contains various information about customers,
competition, labor market, and development trends for industries,
products and services, as well as the public and political mood. For
innovative and sustainable development, it is essential for
organizations to utilize this data to increase sales, identify future
opportunities and new markets, outperform the competition, enhance
products and services, recruit talent, improve operations, perform
forecasting, protect the brand, and identify areas for improvement to
name a few. However, many organizations make a limited use of this
valuable data available to them either because they lack necessary tools
or do not understand the value of this d
ata.
The main objective of this minitrack is to provide organizations a
theoretical, conceptual, and applied grounded discussion of Business
Intelligence and Big Data (BI & BD) to aid in innovative and sustainable
development as well as effective decision-making. This minitrack
addresses the following questions:
* What is the substance (nature) of BI & BD?
* What is the added-value of BI & BD to development of organizations and
their decision-making process?
* How to support organizational creativity, innovation and
decision-making using BI & BD?
* How to design intelligent information systems and build decision
support systems based on BI & BD?

Innovation is a critical force in organizational performance and
survival. Changes in technology, globalization, and increased
competition have all created an environment in which creativity and
innovation are needed in order to cope with situational and economic
pressures and frequent changes. Designers and Developers of
organizational systems must therefore innovate almost continuously to
keep the organization aligned with such changes. Creativity is a
critical pre-condition for innovation. Generating novel and creative
ideas are the key to innovation and growth in every organization today.
Providing employees, customers and partners with tools to think
creatively has been proven to increase innovation in organizations.
Research shows that organizations which have established skill-bases and
tools for creativity outperform the competition in terms of revenue,
rolling out new products, innovation and growth. Though organizations
deploy groups for most creative processes, there has been little
research in the area of group creativity. Most creative research is
focused on individual factors affecting creativity. Many challenges that
arise from pursuing creativity in teams remain unexplored.
This minitrack provides one of the key international platforms on which
the following topics can be discussed (related topics not listed are
especially welcome):
* Methods & techniques to improve creativity in teams and crowds
* Open Innovation, idea competitions, co-creation, and creativity
through social media
* Design and evaluation of platforms, systems, and technologies for
enhancing creativity
* Challenges and opportunities for creativity in teams, crowds, and
organizations
* Theoretical foundations for creativity at individual, group, crowd,
and organizational levels
* Practical approaches to foster creativity at individual, group,
crowd, and organizational levels
* The creation and implementation of innovations in teams, crowds, and
organizations
* Factors affecting creativity in individuals, teams, crowds, and
organizations
* Multi-level issues of creativity in teams, crowds, and organizations
* Multi- and inter-disciplinary approaches to creativity
* Creative collaboration between business partners and customers (e.g.
open innovation and co-creation of products and services)
* Managing creative projects
We welcome papers that contain original ideas on how to improve
creativity and innovation through all phases of problem-solving, i.e.,
understanding a problem, devising potential solutions, evaluating
alternatives, making choices, making plans, taking action, and
after-action review. We seek papers that suggest methodical, technical,
theoretical, or practical improvements for realizing creative ideas in
the workforce as innovations, for an organization cannot benefit from
its creativity until its ideas are implemented.
This minitrack is open to both qualitative and quantitative research, to
research from a positivist, interpretivist, or critical perspective, to
studies from the lab, from the field, design-oriented or developmental
in nature.

Mini-track: The Sharing Economy
Track: Collaboration Systems and Technologies
Sharing Economy has gained notable attention within mainstream media as a
new economic paradigm that leverages peer-to-peer technological platforms
to facilitate exchange of resources among individuals who are joined via
fluid relational networks. While there are many practitioners who have
prophesized the sharingeconomy as a game-changer for how organizations and
society function, there are also a number of detractors who questioned the
uncertain and potentially disruptive future that is brought about by such
peer-to-peer exchanges. Critics have painted a dismal picture of the sharing
economy as a means for individuals and/or firms to dodge proper
regulations and live beyond their means, which in turn contributes to
doomsday scenarios of massive job displacements and spending habits
detrimental to society. In light of the opportunities and challenges posed
by the sharing economy, there is a clear urgency for a systematic and
thorough scrutiny of how value creation and appropriation can take place
within such economic environments while minimizing its negative impact to
society.
The aim of this minitrack is to sensitize both academics and practitioners
to the latest trends and developments in the sharing economy in order to
determine how value can be created and appropriated within this novel
economic environment powered primarily by technology. This minitrack
embraces both retrospective and progressive views of how the sharing economy
has evolved and would transform with technological advances. We welcome
papers that identify and address knowledge gaps in how emergent
technologies are shaping the access and sharing of resources within online
peer-to-peer communities. Papers that subscribe to inter-disciplinary
perspectives and/or adopt mixed methods are particularly welcome.
Topics of interest of the minitrack include, but are not limited to:
