Due to many requests, the regular papers submission deadline of this
conference has been extended.
Knowledge Management (KM) is a discipline concerned with the analysis
and technical support of practices used in an organization to identify,
create, represent, distribute and enable the adoption and leveraging of
good practices embedded in collaborative settings and, in particular, in
organizational processes. Effective knowledge management is an
increasingly important source of competitive advantage, and a key to the
success of contemporary organizations, bolstering the collective
expertise of its employees and partners. Information Sharing (IS) is a
term used for a long time in the information technology (IT) lexicon,
related to data exchange, communication protocols and technological
infrastructures. Although standardization is indeed an essential element
for sharing information, IS effectiveness requires going beyond the
syntactic nature of IT and delve into the human functions involved in
the semantic, pragmatic and social levels of organizational semiotics.
The two areas are intertwined as information sharing is the foundation
for knowledge management.

MINITRACK: Internet of Things: Providing Services Using Smart Devices,
Wearables, and Quantified Self
Instructions and submission link:
http://hicss.hawaii.edu/tracks-and-minitracks/authors/
***********************
OVERVIEW OF THE MINITRACK
Description: This mini-track addresses issues organizations face as they
seek to provide services to end-users through wearable or autonomous mobile
devices using the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) platform. The IoT
allows connectivity of billions of mobile devices that can perform
physical, sensing, and analytical services to users. Many of these devices
exist in physical proximity to the user making up part of the user’s
personal area network (PAN). Others are wearable devices that sense and
track metrics about the quantified self and make up the user’s body area
network (BAN). Finally, other mobile devices are semi-autonomous or
autonomous and can move and actuate on their surroundings in an effort to
provide services to users who may or may not be in physical proximity of
the devices. These scenarios create business opportunities for
organizations seeking to provide services to these users. However, these
opportunities create numerous questions that have not been adequately
researched:
1. Applicable business models for these services.
2. Technical issues that must be resolved to provide these services.
3. Data analysis issues requiring big data management techniques.
4. How value is co-created in these service settings.
5. The role of externalities as the IoT grows to incorporate billions
of users and devices.
6. Privacy issues as more and more data about the quantified-self are
collected.
7. How mobile devices contact and form business relationships with
other devices to provide services.
8. Security and privacy issues.
In addition, very few empirical studies have been conducted on using the
Internet of Things to provide such services. We encourage authors to share
new and interesting theoretical and methodological perspectives on topics
relevant to both academic researchers and practitioners. Among other
approaches, we welcome work-in-progress studies that examine existing and
extended theory using the business value of IT methodologies for business
models, service science in the context of mobile devices, and diffusion of
innovation studies on the adoption and acceptance of wearable or autonomous
mobile devices. We give special consideration to research submissions when
the author(s) commit to include an industry partner in their presentation.
We welcome any research that reflects a range of contemporary research
methods, including case studies, analytical models, conceptual studies,
econometrics, and frameworks.
*Topics. *The following areas are suggestive of the range of topics that
are considered suitable:
· Case studies of IoT-enabled service provision using wearable or
autonomous mobile devices
· Business models for services using wearable or autonomous mobile
devices
· Forecasting the technical evolution of IoT-enabled wearable and
autonomous mobile devices
· Application of service science and service-dominant logic to
wearable or smart devices
· Methods to analyze data from wearable or autonomous mobile devices
· Advances in the user interface when providing services through
mobile devices
· Integrating wearable or autonomous devices into IoT and other
larger systems
· Designing, planning, building and managing IoT-enabled
infrastructures and platforms
· IoT-enabled wearable or autonomous mobile devices for supply chain
management (SCM)
· Managing the technical integration of wearable or autonomous
mobile devices with other devices, wireless sensor networks, RFID systems,
and larger distribution systems
· Cultural and social implications of IoT-enabled mobile computing
devices
· Safeguarding security and privacy, personal safety, and quality of
life issues

Call for Papers - HICSS-52 Dark Side of IT Minitrack
Conference: Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS)
Minitrack Title: The Dark Side of Information Technology; Track Title:
Organizational Systems and Technology
The "Dark Side of IT" track welcomes theoretical and empirical papers
examining alternative consequences of IT use and implementation in
organizations and societies. The objective of this mini-track is to
focus not only on the antecedents, development processes, consequence of
numerous phenomena related to the dark side of IT use but also the
potential strategies and techniques for behavioral interventions. We
seek, based on this forum of discussion, to provide practitioners (e.g.,
IT developers, managers, psychologists, and policy makers) in a
multitude of contexts with a deeper understanding of the potential
consequences regarding the dark side of IT use. Further, we hope these
studies help to shape guidelines for designing and implementing
organizational and hedonic IT while minimizing the potential negative

Subject: [AISWorld] CFP: HICSS 2019 Mini-track on the Sharing Economy
Date: Sat, 07 Apr 2018 11:57:14 +0000
From: Bo Xiao <boxiao(a)hawaii.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
52nd Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-52) January
8-11, 2019--Grand Wailea Hotel, Wailea, Maui, Hawaii, USA
Submission Deadline (June 15, 2018)
Mini-track: The Sharing Economy
Track: Collaboration Systems and Technologies
Sharing Economy has gained notable attention within mainstream media as a
new economic paradigm that leverages peer-to-peer technological platforms
to facilitate exchange of resources among individuals who are joined via
fluid relational networks. While there are many practitioners who have
prophesized the sharing economy as a game-changer for how organizations and
society function, there are also a number of detractors who questioned the
uncertain and potentially disruptive future that is brought about by such
peer-to-peer exchanges. Critics have painted a dismal picture of the
sharing economy as a means for individuals and/or firms to dodge proper
regulations and live beyond their means, which in turn contributes to
doomsday scenarios of massive job displacements and spending habits
detrimental to society. In light of the opportunities and challenges posed
by the sharing economy, there is a clear urgency for a systematic and
thorough scrutiny of how value creation and appropriation can take place
within such economic environments while minimizing its negative impact to
society.
The aim of this minitrack is to sensitize both academics and practitioners
to the latest trends and developments in the sharing economy in order to
determine how value can be created and appropriated within this novel
economic environment powered primarily by technology. This minitrack
embraces both retrospective and progressive views of how the sharing
economy has evolved and would transform with technological advances. We
welcome papers that identify and address knowledge gaps in how emergent
technologies are shaping the access and sharing of resources within online
peer-to-peer communities. Papers that subscribe to inter-disciplinary
perspectives and/or adopt mixed methods are particularly welcome.
Topics of interest of the minitrack include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborative consumption and production in sharing economy
- Crowdfunding and communal investment
- Crowdsourcing and open innovation
- Crowd platform strategies
- Data privacy and security in sharing economy
- Design and innovation of crowd platforms
- Digital business models of sharing economy
- Digital labor markets and workforce management in sharing economy
- Disruptive innovation in sharing economy
- Market mechanics of sharing economy
- Policy formulation for sharing economy
- Reputation and trust in sharing economy
- Social network in sharing economy
- Socio-economic and political challenges of sharing economy
- Value appropriation in sharing economy
Best papers accepted to this mini-track will be fast-tracked to Internet
Research, an international and refereed journal that is indexed and
abstracted in major databases (e.g., SSCI, SCI, ABI/INFORM Global).

Mini-track: Social Media and e-Business Transformation
Social media are online platforms that facilitate global collaboration and
sharing among users. New social media applications in e-business and
e-commerce appear everyday and results in enormous shocks to the ecosystem
of individuals and businesses. Consumers can easily obtain information from
a vast, geographically dispersed group of people in social platforms.
Meanwhile, these social platforms give retailers a wealth of options for
reaching potential customers, communication and collaboration, and creating
values to customers. Furthermore, social media are increasingly being used
in organizations to improve relationships among employees and nurture
collaboration and the sharing culture.
The aim of this minitrack is to provide a forum for the exchange of
research ideas and best practices related to social media in e-business
environments. It also aims to raise awareness in terms of the latest
developments in social media, and address the challenges of using social
media. This minitrack is open to all types of research, conceptual or
empirical. Examples of possible topics of interest include (but are not

Call for Papers
HICSS-52 (2019): Novel uses, opportunities and challenges of blockchain
for digital services
Track Decision Analytics, Mobile Technologies and Service Science track
Selected paper of the minitrack will be fast-tracked to a special issue
of Electronic Markets - The International Journal on Networked Business
(http://www.electronicmarkets.org/ ).
Deadline for submissions: June 15, 2018
Website: http://hicss.hawaii.edu
New platforms and platform technologies, such as blockchain, offer new
opportunities, especially for developing radically new transactional
digital services. According to HBR, “blockchain could dramatically
reduce the cost of transactions” by replacing private trust services
with an open mode. Bitnation has the somewhat ambitious goal of creating
a virtual “country” as a future legislative entity. There are examples
of blockchain use for identity management, maintenance of shipping
records in cross-border shipping, and even digital art. In addition to
transparency, blockchain also offers near-instant settlement and
finalization, which is important in, for example, stock trading, title
transfers, and so on.
Until recently, blockchain service implementations and platforms have
been the domain of computer science, and the main focus of research has
been on technical aspects. Now, however, we are moving into an era of
utilizing blockchain platforms that create novel opportunities as well
as challenges for the creation of new services and whole service
ecosystems, such as Ethereum. This calls for research from various
disciplines, including at least information systems science, service
science, marketing, and computer science, to better understand these
opportunities and challenges.
As HICSS continues to address leading-edge developments, we especially
encourage the submission of papers describing innovative services and
approaches to utilizing blockchain. The minitrack provides a venue with
which to present findings and debate the future of these digital open
services and platforms.
The submissions can be research papers, case studies, or practitioner
reports related to open service development and their implications.
Relevant topics for this minitrack include, but are not limited to:
* Blockchain and other open platform technologies, such as Ethereum
* Non-public or semi-public blockchain variants (private and consortium
chains)
* Emerging blockchain ecosystem analyses
* Novel approaches to developing blockchain applications and services
* New application areas for blockchain
* DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations)
* Other emergent payment and transaction platforms
* “Outside the box” blockchain implementations (for example, in
corporate governance or scientific publishing)
* Challenges to the viability of blockchain in the real world
* The good, bad and ugly of the current use cases and industry experiences
