Call for Papers: Special Issue of Information Systems and e-Business
Management (ISeBM) on Blockchain Technology and Applications
Editors-in-Chief: J. Becker; M.J. Shaw
Guest Editors:
Hsing Kenneth Cheng, University of Florida
Daning Hu, Southern University of Science and Technology
Thomas Puschmann, University of Zurich
J. Leon Zhao, City University of Hong Kong
The notion of blockchain technology and its application in cryptocurrency
has attracted huge attention due to the recent Bitcoin hype. The Economist
article of October 31, 2015 called blockchain as the trust machine that
will change how businesses will run and how transactions will be conducted.
No other single technology has been so hyped in recent years, even the
Internet or the Web. The year of 2017 has witnessed a tidal wave in
business investments and government initiatives. Blockchain technology is a
new type of distributed database technology that has the potential to
revolutionize how transaction information is stored and managed in
networked markets and institutions.
One of the most promising blockchain applications is smart contract that
uses blockchain to record and enforce the rules digitally encoded in
contracts. It can automatically trigger the execution of such rules if
certain conditions are met and they are detected by the blockchain. This
approach can ensure the credibility of the contracts without involving
third parties or intermediaries and thus can largely reduce the transaction
costs.
Due to its capability in keeping decentralized records and providing
automated mechanisms to enforce contracts, blockchain has great potential
in various business applications, such as digital currencies, recording
public information such as birth certificates or legal documents. It not
only can change the technologies that support the secure and efficient
storage and processing of information, but may also transform the business
principles and processes embedded in traditional centralized organizations
and societies. It is expected that blockchain and smart contract will
automate much of the clerical work in all types of organizations, thus
causing another wave of business redesign and reengineering.
There is no doubt that opportunities abound for scholars to systematically
study blockchain technology, particularly from the Information Systems (IS)
perspective. In this special issue on blockchain technology and
applications, we call for studies that adopt all IS research methods, such
as design science, behavioral science, and IS economics. Relevant topics
for this special issue may include (but not limited to):
• Blockchain technologies and applications
• Blockchain based business innovation
• Blockchain driven digital currencies
• Blockchain and smart contracts
• Blockchain induced redesign of business processes, models and
organizations.
• Blockchain and its impacts in public sectors
• Blockchain centric ecosystems and communities
• Business value of blockchain
• Acceptance of blockchain technologies in business organizations and among
individual users
• Privacy and security issues related to blockchain

Subject: [AISWorld] CFP: Scandinavian Conference on IS and Information
Systems research seminar in Scandianavia
Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2018 13:30:28 +0000
From: Samuli Pekkola <samuli.pekkola(a)tut.fi>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
First call for papers and workshop/tutorial proposals
Tampere University warmly welcomes you to the 42nd Information Systems
Research Seminar (IRIS) in Scandinavia and the 10th Scandinavian
Conference on Information Systems (SCIS) which take place in Nokia,
Finland in August 11-14 2019.
The theme is Smart Transformation.
Digitalization changes the world. Information systems, software
applications and other technologies are in a central role in this
change. They enable new work practices and processes, new business
models and opportunities, initiate changes in how technologies are used,
perceived and interpreted, and ultimately force individuals,
organizations, and even societies at large to respond to those changes.
Individuals, organizations, and societies have to somehow transform and
adjust their old ways of doing things.
Yet, not only technologies drive digital transformation. Increasing
amounts of data that is produced by numerous sensors, applications, and
systems account for the transformation as well. Such data is gathered
and collected, merged together, and analyzed by different methods and
tools; by using artificial intelligence, data analytics, or data
science. The sense-making of such versatile data is of importance
because not only can it be used to improve decision-making at workplaces
but also, it can be utilized for the benefit of individuals and
societies, in organizational and non-work settings.
These views, transformation and smartness, pose several questions for
information system (IS) research. In general, we might ask what actually
is the smartness of individuals, organizations, or a society. We can
even ask whether stakeholders possess the required abilities, skills and
competences to enable and support the change. These, and other related
questions arise due to fast evolving landscape of information
technology, and information and technology. The nuanced understanding of
Smart Transformation in IS has become even more critical due to
governmental and organizational programs that foster smartness. The
theme of Smart Transformation will headline both IRIS32 and SCIS10,
influence keynotes, and hopefully elicit insightful contributions from
the authors submitting their works to IRIS42 or SCIS10. We invite both
regular submissions and submissions targeted at Smart Transformation
special issue to appear in Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems.
We seek several contributions:
- SCIS papers: regular papers with double blind review process, about
6000 words, to be published in AIS digital library.
- IRIS papers; peer reviewed by other authors, max 6000 pages, to be
dealt in "workshop style approach"; only selected papers will be
published in AIS digital library.
- Workshop proposals.
- SCIS papers, focusing on the conference theme, have chances to be fast
tracked to Scandinavian Journal of IS. These papers are presented in
SCIS and discussed in a special workshop.
Dates:
07.02.2019 SCIS Submission Deadline
01.03.2019 Workshop/tutorial proposal Deadline
29.03.2019 SCIS Reviews Due
05.04.2019 IRIS Submission Deadline
01.05.2019 SCIS Final Submission Deadline
17.05.2019 IRIS Reviews Due
14.06.2019 IRIS Final Paper Submission Deadline

=== TRACK DESCRIPTION ===
Full version:
http://ecis2019.eu/programme/research-tracks/business-analytics-and-big-dat…
The transformation into a Sharing Society is reshaping the nature of
information systems. Thereby, haring data, information, and knowledge
constitutes the foundation for the "datafication of society".
Consequently, novel and advanced approaches for collecting, storing,
managing, and analysing data are required and challenge practitioners
and academia as more and more data (big data) becomes available. This
trend, as well as digitalisation in general, foster the assimilation and
further development of business intelligence and business analytics
(BI&A) approaches within organisations and across various industries.
The Sharing Society has a boosting effect on the already unprecedented
pace of data growth and complexity, with movements such as that of
sharing and open data promising to generate sustainable value. In
addition, governments and non-profit organisations can benefit from the
new opportunities raised by BI&A applications and technologies.
Many scholars are now emphasising the importance of BI&A and big data
approaches as well as information assets for efficient and effective
decision support, management, and leadership. BI&A is essential for an
organisations' daily business, directly influencing firm performance and
business development in a global world. It is not limited to a
traditional and isolated organisational focus. The application of BI&A
and big data approaches enables us to integrate, analyse, visualise, and
ultimately understand and improve the complex processes that make up our
digitised world. Such approaches are enablers for knowledge discovery
benefitting societies, organisations, and individuals leading to smart
technologies. Improved communication, more sustainable processes, as
well as new business models are examples for the innovative use of
disparate data sources (such as mobile, the Internet of Things,
streaming data or social media data). Furthermore, the availability of
seemingly endless computing and cheaper storage capabilities available
through cloud computing enables new opportunities in providing a global
gateway to information as a service and to a Sharing Society.
Over the past few years, there has much enthusiasm around big data
analytics as organizations explore how they can leverage their data to
create and maintain a competitive advantage. As such, today's companies
try to collect and process as much data as possible, with the aim of
improving their decision-making processes. Nevertheless, while there is
some empirical evidence that big data analytics can create value, the
thesis that it leads to performance gains requires deeper analysis. To
date, there is limited understanding of how organizations need to change
to embrace these technological innovations, and the business shifts they
entail. As big data tools and applications diffuse into the
organizational fabric, they will inevitably change longstanding ideas
about decision making, management practices, and most importantly
competitive strategy formulation.
Motivated by the explosion of interest in these emerging fields, the
present track aims to promote multidisciplinary contributions dealing
with socio-economic, organizational, technological, cultural and
societal perspectives. Furthermore, outcomes that demonstrate critical
success factors on the organizational impact of big data and BI&A in
terms of competitive performance, innovativeness, increased agility, and
market capitalizing competence are encouraged. We welcome submissions
based on quantitative and qualitative work, theoretical research, design
research, action research, or behavioural research
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
* The role of BI&A and big data in a Sharing Society
* Emerging concepts and methodologies of BI&A
* Use cases and innovative applications of BI&A
* BI&A in and for the Sharing economy, BI&A in the cloud, BI&A as a service
* Data, text and process mining for business analytics
* Social media analytics for business
* Data visualisation, visual analytics
* Real-time analytics and operational BI, event-driven BA
* BI&A and big data's new frontiers in, e.g., social (media), sports,
education, healthcare
* Big Data
* Strategic and change management issues stemming from BI&A and big data
* Business value and success of BI&A and big data
* Data-driven competitive advantage
* Adoption, routinisation, maturity, and use of BI&A and big data
