SIG-Social Inclusion is sponsoring a track at AMICS 2018 in New Orleans. We invite submissions for mini-track proposals, due October 18. The proposal involves a 150- word description of the minitrack, plus chair contact information. It's quick and painless!
---DESCRIPTION---
The Social Inclusion track welcomes relevant theoretical, empirical, and intervention research, in either completed research or emergent research format, that relates to the mission of SIG Social Inclusion (SIGSI). The purpose of SIGSI is to promote research, pedagogy, and outreach on all aspects of social inclusion in the field of Information Systems (IS). The goal of such efforts is to stimulate greater diversity of thought and personnel in AIS and the IS field overall, and participation of all AIS members in a more socially-aware and inclusive discipline.
Social inclusion research investigates the part IT plays in enabling or inhibiting individuals and social groups' participation in the social structures in which they exist and the needs of under-represented producers or consumers of information systems and technology within the IT field. Topics include: the underrepresentation of gender minorities, race, ethnicities, neurodiversity, and abilities in the IS field, intersectionality of identities (such as ethnicity, gender and socio-economic class), socioeconomic divisions that impact access to or use of technology, designing for the differently-abled, the digital divide, underserved groups in the information society, and a range of topics related to human diversity, and the "haves" and "have nots" in the information society.
Possible minitrack topics could include, but are not limited to:
- Gender issues in the information systems discipline
- Inclusion of differently-abled in the information economy
- Analysis of the digital divide
- Diversity and inclusion in distributed work

The Role of Business Intelligence and Communication Technologies in Organizational Agility: A Configurational Approach
YoungKi Park, George Washington University
Omar A. El Sawy, University of Southern California
Peer Fiss, University of Southern California
Abstract
This study examines the role that business intelligence (BI) and communication technologies play in how firms may achieve organizational sensing agility, decision making agility, and acting agility in different organizational and environmental contexts. Based on the information-processing view of organizations and dynamic capability theory, we suggest a configurational analytic framework that departs from the standard linear paradigm to examine how IT’s effect on agility is embedded in a configuration of organizational and environmental elements. In line with this approach, we use fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to analyze field survey data from diverse industries. Our findings suggest equifinal pathways to organizational agility and the specific boundary conditions of our middle-range theory that determine what role BI and communication technologies play in organizations’ achieving organizational agility. We discuss implications for theory and practice and discuss future research avenues.

Abstract
The Association for Information Systems (AIS) is the premier professional association for individuals and organizations that lead the research, teaching, practice, and study of information systems. It serves society through advancing knowledge and promoting excellence in the practice and study of information systems. To that end, the AIS hosts seven academic journals: Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS), AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interactions (THCI), AIS Transactions on Replication Research (TRR), Pacific Asia Journal of the Association for Information Systems (PAJAIS), Revista Latinoamericana y del Caribe de la Asociación de Sistemas de Información (RELCASI), and Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems (SJIS). In this editorial statement, we summarize the different mission statements for each journal; describe their different audiences, goals, and markets; and identify their shared values, requirements, and resources. We do so to assist AIS members to identify the most suitable journal outlet for their research.

*AMCIS 2018 “Digital Disruption”*
We invite the submission of mini-track proposals to AMCIS 2018, which
will be held on August 16-18, 2018 in New Orleans, LA. The conference
provides many opportunities for participation, collaboration, and
dialogue related to the conference theme, Digital Disruption.’ Digital
disruption is the powerful transformation that drives how businesses
create value with new digital technologies. Digital disruption
transforms all industries, and manifests itself through a variety of
digital tools, services, and artifacts. It fuels more rapid and on-going
innovation in businesses. We look forward to gathering with you in New
Orleans to exchange knowledge.
**
*SIG-OSRA*
The SIG-OSRA track focuses on advancing research and application of
information and communication technologies in the end-user environment
to support work processes, foster innovation, improve employee
performance, and enhance overall organizational effectiveness in direct
support of goals and strategies.
**
*Description of Track*
By adopting, adapting, or developing Information Systems (IS),
organizations and their IS continually undergo a considerable
transformation often referred to as “digital transformation”. As a
result, information systems, business models, business processes, and
end-user workplaces are perpetually analyzed, rethought, and changed.
Nowadays, many systems in organizations are already interconnected to
form inter-organizational IS, contributing to a complex IS landscape in
current organizations. This renews the importance of analyzing the
interplay between IS and organizations from socio-technical and end-user
perspectives and the implications of changing IS for end-users and
customers, who are increasingly technologically savvy and immersed in
this digital transformation.
We invite mini-tracks on topics related to organizational transformation
and IS, business process management, changing workplaces and IS
integration, knowledge management and training, end-user computing, and
IT consulting and inter-organizational information systems. Potential
topics of mini-tracks could relate to (not exhaustive)
·Business Process Management & Change
·New Perspectives on End-User Computing: Consumerization, BYOD and Shadow IT
·Knowledge Management & Knowledge Workers
·Business Ecosystems and Inter-organizational Information Systems
·End-user Development & Open Innovation
·Crowdsourcing and End-User Engagement
·End-user Analytics & Data-driven Organizational Transformation
·Organizational Implications of Service Innovation, Analytics, and End
User Engagement
·Implications of the “coding for everyone” trend
·The Role of IT-Consulting in Organizational Transformation
·Applying and Adopting Socio-technical Approaches to Current Challenges
of IT-driven organizational transformation
·Changing end-user competencies and the use of information systems
·Challenging and Extending (Design) Theory to effectively capitalize on
Digital Disruption
*Opportunities/Fast Tracking in Journals*
High quality and relevant papers from the mini-tracks will be selected
for fast-tracked development towards Internet Research
(http://www.emeraldinsight.com/loi/intr). Selected papers will need to
expand in content and length in line with the requirements for standard
research articles published in the journal. Although the track co-chairs
are committed to guiding the selected papers towards final publication,
further reviews may be needed before final publication decision can be
made. Internet Research (IntR) is an international and refereed journal
that is indexed and abstracted in major databases (e.g., SSCI, SCI,
ABI/INFORM Global). The topics published in IntR are broad and
interdisciplinary in nature. The 2015 impact factor of the journal is 3.017.
*Mini-track Submissions*
Mini-track proposals need to be submitted online via AMCIS’s submission
system (https://confs.precisionconference.com/~amcis/

Special Issue on Parallel and Distributed Data Mining
Information Sciences, Elsevier
The sheer volume of new data, which is being generated at an increasingly fast pace, has already produced an anticipated data deluge that is difficult to challenge. We are in the presence of an overwhelming vast quantity of data, owing to how easy is to produce or derive digital data. Even the storage of this massive amount of data is becoming a highly demanding task, outpacing the current development of hardware and software infrastructure. Nonetheless, this effort must be undertaken now for the preservation, organization and long-term maintenance of these precious data. However, the collected data is useless without our ability fully understand and make use of it. Therefore, we need new algorithms to address this challenge.
Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications.
This Special Issue takes into account the increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel and distributed data mining algorithms. Parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators available on parallel computers. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications.
Moreover, increasingly the data is spread among different geographically distributed sites. Centralized processing of this data is very inefficient and expensive. In some cases, it may even be impractical and subject to security risks. Therefore, processing the data minimizing the amount of data being exchanged whilst guaranteeing at the same time correctness and efficiency is an extremely important challenge. Distributed data mining performs data analysis and mining in a fundamentally distributed manner paying careful attention to resource constraints, in particular bandwidth limitation, privacy concerns and computing power.
The focus of this Special Issue is on all forms of advances in high-performance and distributed data mining algorithms and applications. The topics relevant to the Special Issue include (but are not limited to) the following.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Scalable parallel data mining algorithms using message-passing, shared-memory or hybrid programming paradigms

Herausgeber betreut. Eventuelle Überarbeitungen nach Abschluss des
Begutachtungsverfahrens müssen bis spätestens 20.07.2018 abgeschlossen
sein. Die endgültige Annahme erfolgt dann bis spätestens 27.07.2018
Bitte richten Sie Ihre Vorschläge an Prof. Dr. Matthias Knoll,
Hochschule Darmstadt,
matthias.knoll(a)h-da.de.
Für Rückfragen stehe ich jederzeit gerne zur Verfügung und freue mich
auf Ihre Einreichungen.
Mit den besten Grüßen
Matthias Knoll
