Betreff: [AISWorld] CFP ISJ special issue: Making the developing world
a better place with high impact IS research
Datum: Wed, 21 Sep 2016 21:20:15 +0000
Von: Antonio Diaz Andrade <antonio.diaz(a)aut.ac.nz>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
CALL FOR PAPERS FOR A SPECIAL ISSUE OF THE INFORMATION SYSTEMS JOURNAL: MAKING THE DEVELOPING WORLD A BETTER PLACE WITH HIGH IMPACT IS RESEARCH
Background
The practical impact that IS research can bring to real organisational and societal problem situations and their stakeholders should be of prime concern to all researchers who desire to make the world a better place. Governments and funding agencies increasingly seek evidence that the research they support does bring about valuable impacts. The United Nations has also taken a strong stance with its Millennium Development Goals (http://www.unmillenniumproject.org/goals), which have now transitioned into the new set of Sustainable Development Goals (http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org). Indeed, the critical need for positive impact is nowhere greater than in the less developed parts of the world.
The focus of this special issue is on high impact research in the specific context of developing countries, also known as emerging economies and the global south. These countries, many of which are located in Africa, Asia, South and Central America, the Caribbean and the Pacific, tend to have an underdeveloped industrial base and a low human development index relative to other, more developed countries (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Developing_country). By high impact we are referring to research that demonstrates how IS has actually made a contribution for the better in a specific problem or problem area. The impact must be tangibly measured or corroborated in terms of change or improvement in a developing country context. Further, the impact must be tightly linked to the IS part of the study. This will require the documentation of strong relationships between the IS, any stakeholders, the problem situation and the outcomes. Potential or speculative impacts, or other forms of subjunctive analysis, are not appropriate for this special issue. Further, we are not looking for purely descriptive studies that embody no theory: consistent with normative expectations for the ISJ, we expect that all papers must be methodologically sound, theoretically sound as well as demonstrating high impact in the specific context of developing countries.
Focus of this Special Issue
In order to further the good work already undertaken and to encourage the undertaking of more high impact research in developing countries, in this special issue we are looking for papers that deliberately set out to demonstrate how IS makes a difference to the lives of people (whether as individuals or in groups) in developing countries and thereby makes the developing world a better place. This kind of research must thus be strongly relevant to the practical concerns of people in developing contexts. The impact should be situated in a practical context or situation that is experienced directly by the people who live there. The problem situation needs to be defined carefully and, as a result of the research, ameliorated in some tangible way. Notwithstanding this practical focus, we expect that published papers will still adhere to the ISJ's high standards of research rigour (with respect to method) and theoretical contribution.
The range of topic areas which could be described as suitable for this special issue is far too large to list completely. However, broad areas include (but are not limited to): agriculture; medicine and health; SMEs and micro-enterprises; mobile and electronic commerce applications; microfinance; crowd-sourcing; sustainability. What is critical is that the research should be indigenously situated in a developing country context. Moreover, the context should inform the research design (including theory to be tested or developed): the context is not merely a place to gather data.

CALL FOR PAPERS:
Mission
The mission of the Journal of Information Privacy and Security (JIPS) is to serve both academics and practitioners as a reliable source on issues of information privacy and security. The Journal is a high quality refereed journal that seeks support from academicians, industry experts and specific government agencies. The JIPS focuses on publishing articles that address the paradoxical nature of privacy versus security amidst current global conditions. It is increasingly important that various constituents of information begin to understand their role in finding solutions to achieve a delicate balance between security and privacy.
The JIPS will facilitate understanding of the information assurance technical framework as it pertains to government agencies, companies and individuals. The topics may include the information privacy and security issues pertaining to initiatives on counter-terrorism efforts around the world, the impact of U.S. federal regulation and compliance issues facing global corporations, the impact of privacy and security initiatives within small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and e-gambling.
Article submissions are encouraged from both academics and practitioners. Each issue will include high quality articles from academics and practitioners, case studies, book reviews, and industry interviews. The Journal addresses issues of privacy and security from a global perspective and will consider articles with a cross-functional focus. The Journal will include articles in the following areas:
- Information Assurance frameworks
- Network security and impact on corporate infrastructure
- Privacy laws and impact on information compliance issues
- The duality of privacy and security and impact on corporate operations
- Governmental regulations and changes on information security requirements
- Data transfer issues across nations, states, and corporations
- Privacy and security requirements in B2B and B2C information flows
- Cross-functional aspects of information assurance and requirements faced by various business functions within companies
- Web sites, portals and related issues such as the issue of trust
- Information privacy and security as it relates to end-users
- Applications and case studies in privacy and security issues facing business organizations, government agencies and individuals
- Emerging topics such as biometrics, software utilities, and IT obligations and how they change the business environment
We also welcome suggestions on special issue covering a relevant topic.
Review Process
Each article will be blind-reviewed by three members of the editorial review board. Reviewer recommendation will be considered by the Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor. For a revision and rewrite, a revised paper will be sent to one of the Editors for final approval. The final decision will be made by the Editor-in-Chief.
JIPS is now published by Taylor and Francis Group. Interested authors should submit their manuscripts to the submission site: http://ijips.edmgr.com

Betreff: [AISWorld] SemEval-2017 Task 11: End-User Development using
Natural Language
Datum: Mon, 19 Sep 2016 18:03:55 +0200
Von: André Freitas <andrenfreitas(a)gmail.com>
* SemEval-2017 Task 11 *
= End-User Development using Natural Language =
website: http://alt.qcri.org/semeval2017/task11/
This task proposes a challenge to support the interaction of end-users with
applications, micro-services and software APIs using natural language. The
task aims at evolving the discussions around the application of natural
language processing techniques within the context of end-user natural
language programming.
Recent advances in Natural Language Processing bring the opportunity of
improving the interaction between users and software artefacts, supporting
end-users programming mediated by natural language. This ability to match
user’s action intents and information needs to formal actions within a set
of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), using the semantics of
natural language as the mediation layer between both, can significantly
impact the accessibility of software development.
This SemEval task aims at developing the state-of-the-art discussions and
techniques concerning the semantic interpretation of natural language
commands and user action intents, bridging the semantic gap between users
and software artefacts.
*The Task:*
The test collection consists of a set of natural language commands. Each
natural language command is mapped to one or more actions within the APIs
Knowledge Base (KB). The interpretation of the natural language command and
its mapping to the API is also dependent on the user personal context (User
KB), which contains the user personal data (contacts, addresses, emails,
phones, ...).
*Important Dates:*
