Algorithms
Special Issue on "Humanistic Data Processing"
http://www.mdpi.com/journal/algorithms/special_issues/data_processing
**Submission Deadline: December 6, 2016 - extended**
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Data processing and analysis could be described as being one of the most important, yet challenging tasks of our era. The abundant amount of available information retrieved from, or related to the areas of Humanistic Sciences poses significant challenges to the research community. The ultimate goal is two-fold: on the one hand, to extract knowledge that will aid human behavior understanding, increasing human creativity, learning, decision making, socializing and even biological processing; on the other hand, to extract and exploit the underlying semantic knowledge by incorporating it into computationally intelligent systems.
The nature of humanistic data can be multimodal, semantically heterogeneous, dynamic, time and space-dependent, and highly complicated. Translating humanistic information, e.g., behavior, state of mind, artistic creation, linguistic utterance, learning and genomic information into numerical or categorical low-level data is a significant challenge on its own. New algorithms, appropriate for dealing with this type of data, need to be proposed and existing ones adapted to the individual special characteristics.
This Special Issue aims to bring together interdisciplinary approaches that focus on the application of innovative as well as existing data matching, fusion and mining and knowledge discovery and management techniques (such as decision rules, decision trees, association rules, ontologies and alignments, clustering, filtering, learning, classifier systems, neural networks, support vector machines, preprocessing, post processing, feature selection, visualization techniques) to data derived from all areas of Humanistic Sciences, e.g., linguistic, historical, behavioral, psychological, artistic, musical, educational, social, etc. The Issue is devoted to the exploitation of the many facets of the above fields and will explore the current related state-of-the-art.

Notification:
Dec 15, 2016
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SCOPE AND TOPICS
The goal of the International Conference on Performance Engineering (ICPE) is to integrate theory and practice in the field of performance engineering by providing a forum for sharing ideas and experiences between industry and academia. Nowadays, complex systems of all types, like Web-based systems, data centers and cloud infrastructures, social networks, peer-to-peer, mobile and wireless systems, cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things, real-time and embedded systems, have increasingly distributed and dynamic system architectures that provide high flexibility, however, also increase the complexity of managing end-to-end application performance.
ICPE brings together researchers and industry practitioners to share and present their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on performance engineering of software and systems, including performance measurement, modeling, benchmark design, and run-time performance management. The focus is both on classical metrics such as response time, throughput, resource utilization, and (energy) efficiency, as well as on the relationship of such metrics to other system properties including but not limited to scalability, elasticity, availability, reliability, and security.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR WORK IN PROGRESS AND VISION PAPERS
The goal of the work-in-progress and vision track is two-fold:
- To provide the opportunity for attendees to present and discuss preliminary results from their latest work obtaining some early feedback from the community.
- To provide the opportunity to present position papers on emerging hot topics in the field of performance engineering motivating new research directions.
Work-in-progress papers present promising preliminary results that may not have been fully validated yet. Although full validation is not required, the work presented should be advanced enough to allow attendees to appreciate its scope and significance.
Vision papers present emerging research challenges and long-term research directions on topics relevant to the performance engineering community. Submissions should clearly present the research questions and their rationale sketching possible approaches to their resolution. The goal of such papers is to motivate new research and generate debate and discussions on the latest challenges in the field of performance engineering.
All contributions must be original, not published, accepted or submitted for publication elsewhere. Accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings and included in the ACM Digital Library.
More information can be found at https://icpe2017.spec.org/submissions/work-in-progress-and-vision-track.html.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Submissions are made via Easychair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icpe2017) and should be clearly marked in the text as "Work-In-Progress Paper" or "Vision Paper", respectively. Submissions must be in the standard ACM format for conference proceedings. Papers should not exceed 4 pages double column including figures and tables.
At least one author of each accepted paper is required to register at the full rate, attend the conference and present the paper. Presented papers will be published in the ICPE 2017 conference proceedings that will be published by ACM and included in the ACM Digital Library. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERVIEW
EICS 2017 is the ninth international conference devoted to engineering usable and effective interactive computing systems. Work presented at EICS covers the full range of aspects that come into play when "engineering" interactive systems, such as innovations in the design, development, deployment, verification and validation of interactive systems. Topics of interest include a.o. the design and development of systems incorporating new interaction techniques and multimodal interaction, multi-device interaction, mobile and pervasive systems, large-scale and big data applications, deployment of interactive systems, as well as novel development methods and processes.
EICS 2017 focuses on methods, techniques and tools that support designing and developing interactive systems. The Conference brings together people who study or practice the engineering of interactive systems, drawing from HCI, Software Engineering, Requirements Engineering, CSCW, Ubiquitous / Pervasive Systems and Game Development communities.
The conference proceedings are published by the ACM and appear in the ACM Digital Library.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONFERENCE TOPICS
Submissions are invited that advance the state of the art of the engineering of interactive systems. Topics include but are not limited to:
* Modelling and analysis of interaction and interactive systems
* processes for engineering interactive systems (e.g. design, implementation, prototyping, evaluation, verification and validation, testing)
* integrating interaction design into the software development process
* requirements engineering for interactive systems
* specification of interactive systems (methods, principles and tools)
* software architectures for interactive systems

* engineering hardware/software integration in interactive systems (e.g. fabrication and maker processes, physical computing etc.)
* engineering user experience (e.g., fun, affective)
* engineering complex interactive systems (e.g., large datasets, large communities, enterprise systems, collaborative systems)
* certification issues of interactive systems
------------------------------------------------------------------------
TYPE OF SUBMISSIONS
**Full Papers** present original and mature research work. High-quality, elaborated case studies and practice reports with generalizable findings will be considered too. Full papers should be about 10 pages of contents, anonymized, with additional pages of references. There is no limit on the number of pages of references. Full paper submissions will be reviewed by a senior PC member and three PC members. When the reviews are available, authors have to chance to provide a rebuttal with clarifications and answers on the reviewer comments. Rebuttals and reviews will be discussed at a live PC meeting. Authors will receive one of three possible decisions: reject, accept with minor modifications or second iteration with shepherding. The latter will get active guidance by a senior PC member and include submission of a revised version of the paper.
**Late-Breaking Results and Demonstrations Papers** (6 pages) describe preliminary results, ongoing work or demonstrate innovative approaches or systems that presents new ideas and concepts. Demonstrations will be published and will get stage time. For both LBR and demonstrations we expect submissions of no more than 6 pages in total.
Demonstrations are not product demonstrations, but rather an opportunity to highlight, explain, and present interesting technical aspects of (prototype) applications and environments. Demonstrations will be reviewed and published at the same level as LBR proceedings. Demonstration papers should include a description of the demo and preferably a walk-through section guiding the reader. For demonstrations, we strongly encourage submitting a video and additional material allowing first-hand experience of the proposed technique, application or environment, e.g. a Java or HTML5 demonstrator, or one hosted on the SHARE platform.
**Workshop proposals** should include: a description of the workshop aims and goals, the format of the workshop and the target audience (2 pages), accompanied by a free-form description of the organizers and their background as well as operational requirements and a short description of how contributions will be solicited (max 2 additional pages). Workshops can be half-day or full-day. Only workshops with at least six participants paying the associated fee by the early registration deadline will take place at the conference. Workshops will get the opportunity to present the work they cover and results as posters at the main conference to maximize their impact (meaning workshop participants have the possibility to create a poster and present it as part of the main conference). Workshop proposals will be curated by the workshop and tutorial chairs.
**Tutorial proposals** should address a topic that is of interest for a larger audience and that meets an identifiable educational need within the scope of the EICS themes. Tutorials will be integrated within the main conference programme and are therefore available to all conference participants. A tutorial will typically take up one session of the programme (ninety minutes) though exceptionally we would consider a half day format.
Tutorial submissions should comprise a 2-page description of the goals, the target audience and curriculum of the tutorial in ACM SIGCHI format. Additionally, a free-form description of the author(s) background as well as prior experience in presenting the material and sample tutorial notes should be submitted.
The final tutorial notes will be included in the conference materials.
The **Doctoral Consortium (DC)** provides an opportunity for PhD students to present their research goals as well as intermediate results and to discuss them with leading experts in the field as well as with peers. Authors of accepted submissions will have their registration fee waived. Students will receive feedback on the quality of their presentation and on the proposed research itself. Students can be in intermediate or advanced stages of their research, but should not have completed their work yet, and should thus still be able to take feedback from the Consortium into account. The submission consists of a short paper (max 4 pages ACM Extended Abstract Format), and should be accompanied by a free-form CV of the PhD candidate. Accepted submissions will be distributed to all participants and to the members of the panel to allow them to prepare for a fruitful discussion during the DC session. Authors will be invited to present a poster and give a short talk about their PhD research during the main EICS conference. Additional information about how to prepare for the DC will be provided following acceptance.

*CALLFORPAPERS *
for an edited book entitled
*“The Digital Transformation of the Consulting Industry”*
*Editor*: Volker Nissen

*About the Editor: *
Prof. Nissen has more than twelve years of practical experience in
IT-consulting. Since 2005 he holds the Chair of Business & Information
Systems Engineering in Services at the University of Technology Ilmenau,
Germany. Consulting Research is one of his main focus areas in academic
research. Ilmenau is one of the top 5 educators in Business Informatics
at University level in Germany, according to the 2016 survey of
Wirtschaftswoche.
*Publisher: Springer*
Book is scheduled to be published in 2017.
*Theme of the Book:*
Consulting companies face new challenges today. These challenges, on the
one hand, consist of the increased professionalism and price
consciousness of the clients. On the other hand, a change to a buyer's
market as well as high competitive pressure on standard services has
been observed for years. In order to remain strong in the market,
consultancies need to critically evaluate their own business model as
well as the way they provide their consulting services. The digitization
of consulting processes and services can be an innovative strategy for
securing the success of the company and supplement the classical
consulting portfolio with new, technology-based services.By rethinking
the delivery process of consulting itself consultancies can reshape the
interaction with the client and reach new groups of clients. Using
state-of-the-art technology enables consulting providers to deliver
customized solutions anytime and anywhere while the individual work load
of every consultant can be optimized. The downside of such virtualized
services is the reduced direct interaction of clients and consultants
and thus the risk of a weaker client-consultant-relationship.
Digital transformation in the consulting industry is a complex
processthat will substantially reshape the interaction with the client
and change the traditional roles of the actors. This requires a high
degree of creativity and strategic thinking that reaches far beyond the
pure 1:1 transfer of conventional consulting processes into the virtual
world. This book will offer orientation and advice to anyone concerned
with the digital transformation of consulting.
*Topics of Contributions:*
Basically all topics related to the general theme of the book are
acceptable. Examples include, but are not limited to the following issues:
*Extending the traditional delivery model of consulting beyond people
business – ways and means of virtualizing consulting services and processes
*Chances/Benefits and Risks/Disadvantages of digital business model
innovations in consulting
*The customer view on digital consulting
*Security issues in digital consulting services
*Fully automated consulting solutions
*Differences in digitization strategies relating either to the
consulting field (strategy, organization, IT, HR) or the consulting
approach (assessments, expert consulting, coaching etc.)
*Comparing the situation in different countries and consulting markets
*The status quo of the digital transformation in the various consulting
fields
*Assessing the virtualization potential of consulting services and processes
*Organizing the digital transformation of consulting services
*Integrating digital consulting services with a classical consulting
portfolio
*Examples of digital consulting services, methods, tools and other artifacts
*Digitization in closely related fields, such as legal consulting,
assurance and auditing, or wealth management – what can we learn here
for business consulting?
*Comparisons between digitization in knowledge-intensive professional
services and other branches of industry
*How digitization will influence the consulting market
*Relation between digitization and outsourcing in consulting
*Digitization and Inhouse-Consulting
*Underlying principles and technologies of digital consulting services,
such as modularization, standardization, knowledge modelling, automated
and case-based reasoning, mobile applications, cloud, big data, IoT,
social networks etc.
*What consulting might looklike in the future
Empirical as well as design-oriented research is welcome.
*Types of Contributions:*
Two types of contributions with a different focus are welcome:
·Scientific research papers should have approx. 15 – 20 pages. They must
include a clear research question related to the theme of the book,
outline the research methodology and discuss the results at an academic
level.
·Application-oriented papers should have approx. 8 – 12 pages. They must
describe the design, implementation and practical results of sample
applications, demonstrating the relevance of digitization in the context
of consulting services.
All contributions must be in English language. A Word-template will be
provided to prospective authors after 5. Dec. 2016. Original research is
preferred. However, as the book intends to collect state-of-the-art
contributions on the digital transformation in consulting, submissions
may have been published before. In this case, they must be substantially
revised in order to avoid a copyright infringement. The copyright will
have to be transferred to Springer by the corresponding author of each
contribution.
*Schedule for Contributors:*
*Prospective authors should send an Extended Abstract of 2 – 4 pages to
the editor until
_5. Dec. 2016_. The abstract must clearly communicate the core
contribution of the intended paper and the methodology used to reach the
results. If a full paper is available at this stage, please send the
full paper instead of an abstract. All submissions then undergo an
editorial review process, based on thematic conformity with the general
theme of the book, originality and quality.
*Authors of contributions not suitable for the book will be informed on
19. Dec. 2016 at the latest. All other submissions are conditionally
accepted, provided a full paper according to academic standards is
submitted until _12. Feb. 2017_. Two types of contributions are
possible: scientific research papers and application-oriented papers
(see above).
*Information about final acceptance/rejection of papers or required
revisions will be sent out until 6. March 2017.
*Final versions of papers are due on _3. April 2017_.
Please feel free to forward this CfP to interested colleagues. If
questions arise regarding the submission deadline or potential topics,
please contact the editor at volker.nissen(a)tu-ilmenau.de
<mailto:volker.nissen@tu-ilmenau.de>.

ICWE 2017 is looking for high-quality workshops to complement its scientific program. Interested workshop organizers are invited to submit proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with ICWE 2017 in Rome, Italy, in June 5-8. The goal of the workshops program is to provide a forum where to present and discuss ongoing work in friendly, open, and informal settings.
Topics of interest include all areas of Web Engineering. ICWE 2017 specifically welcomes workshops tackling novel, cutting-edge topics, workshops covering lesser-addressed Web Engineering sub-areas, cross-discipline workshops and workshops dealing with possible and expected future evolutions of the Web. ICWE 2017 workshops are highly encouraged to include interactive and hands-on sessions.
The organizers of approved workshops are responsible for advertising their workshops, collecting papers, managing the review process, making accepted papers available to workshop participants (e.g., workshop website), and collecting the camera-ready copies and copyright forms of accepted papers (verifying that they comply with formatting rules). Organizers are expected to physically attend and manage their workshops. Conference facilities such as meeting rooms, wireless Internet and meals are provided by the local organizers.
ICWE 2017 provides workshop organizers with the opportunity to publish workshop proceedings as part of its dedicated post-workshop proceedings to appear in Springer's LNCS series (confirmation a subject of the accepted workshops). Typically, workshop papers are 12 pages long and peer-reviewed; other forms of contributions can be discussed and agreed on with the workshop chairs. Organizers who prefer their own proceedings are of course welcome as well.

OBJECTIVE
On-demand services provide a link between organizations/individuals with excess capacity and the consumers who need the service. Some of the most popular examples include Uber (transportation sharing), Airbnb (housing sharing), and Wework (office sharing). There has been dramatic growth in on-demand services over the past few years, but there is a limited amount of research investigating the range of behavioral, strategic and technical issues that explain the success, failure, and impact these services will have on existing industries and the overall economy.
The purpose of this special issue is to investigate the breadth of issues that impact the success, failure, and future directions for on-demand service firms and the sharing economy. The intent is to address research issues related to these services to better understand the underlying behavioral, strategic, and technical issues from the perspectives of the users, service providers, and society. Of particular interest is studies that are multidisciplinary incorporating two or more of the following research areas – information systems, electronic commerce, business functions (marketing, finance, human resources, business law, etc.), information technology and related social sciences (economics, sociology, psychology, ethics). Studies can utilize any methodology to address these important and timely research issues.
TOPICS
The objective for this special issue is to present a comprehensive set of articles addressing research issues for on-demand service consumers, service providers, and the overall sharing economy. Topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
• On-demand service consumer behavior
• On-demand service provider growth strategies
