== Call for Participation
Collaborative research practices are a highly interesting domain for CSCW. So far, CSCW has mainly focused on computation- and/or data-intensive research endeavors. Here, resources are typically pooled via common e-infrastructures for data access and processing, a set-up requiring additional layers of coordination. Such a focus largely foregrounds the sciences and other fields that rely on highly structured (or structure-able) data and the routinized processes of analysis.
In contrast, in this one-day workshop we discuss the conditions and challenges characteristic of research collaboration in the qualitative social sciences and humanities (SSH). In particular, we examine the sociotechnical infrastructures that enable and support research practices that—in comparison with the collaborative paradigm of the natural sciences—tend to be less structured, compartmentalized, and routinized, but more fluid, flexible, and open-ended. The workshop seeks to collect empirical insights and design experiences, preparing the grounds for a comprehensive understanding of the role of e-infrastructures for collaborative research practices in SSH.
We particularly invite submissions that draw out the core characteristics, challenges, and trends faced by groups of researchers in the SSH from experiential, theoretical, empirical or design perspectives.
Key topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Reflections and meta-perspectives on collaboration in the SSH.
* Empirical studies of collaborative research practices in the SSH, possibly taking on one or more of the following questions:
* What are the infrastructures/resources that social scientists and humanists draw on? How do they do so? And, where do resources come from?
* What has been the trajectory of change relative to digitization of resources, tools, and infrastructures?
* Empirical studies of the invisible work to make collaborative research in the SSH work.
* Studies of the (participatory) design, use, education, and appropriation of new digital tools, platforms, infrastructures for collaboration in the SSH.
* Implications of digital methodologies for training and interdisciplinarity in the SSH.
== Submission Details
We invite 2-4 page position or experience papers in ACM Extended Abstracts format. Submissions should be e-mailed to the organizers by December 19, 2016.
Please e-mail submissions to eResearchInfSSH2017(a)gmail.com.
Submissions will be reviewed by the workshop organizers. We expect to accept a maximum of about 20 participants based on the submissions’ relevance to the workshop themes.

=================================================
Track Description:
==================
Many scholars have emphasized the importance of (big) data, information,
and knowledge assets for smart decision support, sustainable management,
and leadership. Consequently, knowledge management (KM) is essential for
organizations’ daily business, directly influencing competitive
advantage and business development in a smart world. Eventually, KM per
se aims at the sustainable development of knowledge exchange and
preservation, from the individual to the team/group to the
organizational level and beyond, in a globalized world.
Main goal of this track is to gather current research trends in KM with
a focus on smart, sustainable, and inclusive knowledge environments. KM
has become an interdisciplinary research field – the traditional gap
between researchers from a technology versus a human-oriented angle has
been bridged by holistic, interdisciplinary approaches. This is highly
necessary due to the context of research: organizations are more and
more distributed, the need for sustainable management of
knowledge-intensive processes becomes still higher. We currently see
strong developments towards research on social and inclusive aspects
(like the use of social software for business and private purposes
across generations) as well as towards global organizations (like smart
KM solutions for offshoring, inter-organizational KM, etc.). The
influence of geographical dispersion, communication across time zones,
or national/cultural influence factors needs to become a focus issue in
research. Particularly, collaboration takes place in different smart
social or cultural environments. Due to the usage of collaborative
technologies like social software, organizational and national
boundaries become more blurred and knowledge can be diffused much
easier. Openness and inter-organizational collaboration build the global
pathway of rich, contextualized and sustainable knowledge sharing
activities among networked persons within and beyond organizational
boundaries. Furthermore, in an increasingly globally distributed world,
organizations and knowledge workers are required to exploit
relationships with others and to gain benefits out of such
relationships. Eventually, KM supports dealing with the demographic
change by, for example, providing inclusive measures like age-based
learning offers for elderly persons.
The KM track aims to promote multi-disciplinary contributions dealing
with a managerial, an economic, a methodological, a cultural or a
technical perspective. Submissions based on theoretical research, design
research, action research, or behavioral research are encouraged. We
welcome both full research papers and research in progress papers.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
===================================================
* Capturing and sharing knowledge in social networks and distributed
contexts
* Cross-organizational, cross-border and cross-cultural KM
* Sustainability of indigenous knowledge and knowledge societies
* KM and the demographic change
* KM and smart cities
* KM in the cloud
* Support for mature KM solutions: KM governance, KM strategies, KM
maturity models, and KM performance
* Social and behavioral issues in KM
* Mobile technologies and social software usage in KM
* KM and learning
* Sustainable KM: securing and protecting knowledge
* KM and risk management

Betreff: [AISWorld] Extended CALL FOR PAPERS - Workshop: Designing
Human-Computer Assistance Systems (HuCAS) - WI 2017
Datum: Wed, 16 Nov 2016 14:53:33 +0000
Von: Morana, Stefan (IISM) <stefan.morana(a)kit.edu>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Extended CALL FOR PAPERS - Workshop: Designing Human-Computer Assistance
Systems (HuCAS) - WI 2017 in St. Gallen, Switzerland (February 12th, 2017)
MOTIVATION
Initial attempts in information systems (IS) to support users with more
comprehensive, integrated assistance failed miserably, such as the famous
Clippy by Microsoft. More recent assistance functionalities, primarily in
the private life context, such as Apples Siri or Google Now, showed their
usefulness (Maedche et al. 2016). One research domain that is already mature
with regard to human-machine assistance is the automotive sector. For more
than 30 years, there has been research into assistance systems that
proactively support drivers (Bengler et al. 2014). Assistance systems are
also investigated in the human-machine interaction context (Wandke 2005).
The IS domain may leverage and learn from the existing (design) knowledge on
assistance systems.
By tailoring assistance to users current context and needs during the
interaction with the computer, for example by making use of the sensors or
historical user data that many devices nowadays have access to, more
advanced assistance systems can provide IS users with added value. Although
there are various attempts in IS, especially in the
human-computer-interaction community, to study the effects of assistance and
to provide concrete solutions in the form of prototypes, a great deal of
research is still needed. Thus, designing human-computer assistance systems
is a promising research field that deserves more attention in IS research
and related communities.
Human-computer assistance systems can be classified along two dimensions:
(1) the degree of interaction enabled by the assistance system, and (2) the
degree of intelligence of the system (Maedche et al. 2016). The degree of
interaction characterizes the assistance systems capability to support users
in an ongoing reciprocal and activating dialog using, potentially, different
channels (Benyon 2010). The degree of intelligence describes the assistance
systems capability to provide guidance or advice (Silver 2006) based on the
users current activities and usage environment (Gregor and Benbasat 1999).
Combining both dimensions, interactive and intelligent human-computer
assistance systems enrich the humans usage of computer systems in order to
help them to perform their tasks better and make better decisions.
INTENDED PARTICIPANTS
We invite researchers as well as practitioners with an interest in the
conceptualization, design, and evaluation of interactive and intelligent
human-computer assistance systems (HuCAS) for supporting users task
execution and decision making. Given the broad spectrum of HuCAS and the
topics interdisciplinary, we invite researchers and practitioners focusing,
for example, on human-computer interaction, decision support and decision
making, business intelligence and analytics, intelligent user interfaces,
and human behavior in IS to advance the topic in the workshop.
WORKSHOP TOPICS
We are interested in manuscripts addressing one of the following topics:
- Theory-grounded conceptualization of human-computer assistance systems in
general and along the two dimensions interactivity and intelligence
- Design of human-computer assistance systems in the form of decision aids,
recommendation systems, virtual assistants, guidance systems, task-support
systems, or digital assistance systems
- Research on the IT-based support of individuals working routines in
organizational or private life contexts
- Empirical (qualitative or quantitative) evaluation of human-computer
assistance system artifacts in, for example, laboratory experiments or field
studies
- Research addressing the context and situation when human-computer
assistance systems are required
- Research on the individuals cognitive processes when using human-computer
assistance systems and the related outcomes Manuscripts addressing related
topics that are not mentioned explicitly are welcome.
SUBMISSIONS
The submissions should be no longer than six pages (DIN A4, 12 pt Times New
Roman, single spaced) including figures, tables, and references. The format
of the submission is an anonymized PDF document that includes a title and
3-5 keywords. No specific template is provided.
The manuscripts should be submitted as email attachments to the workshop
chairs ( <mailto:stefan.morana@kit.edu> stefan.morana(a)kit.edu and

17th Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (PETS 2017)
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
July 2017
General information: https://petsymposium.org/
Submission server: https://submit.petsymposium.org/2017.3/
================
The annual Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (PETS) brings together privacy experts from around the world to present and discuss recent advances and new perspectives on research in privacy technologies. The 17th PETS event will be organised by the University of Minnesota and held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, July 18 â 21, 2017.
Papers undergo a journal-style reviewing process and accepted papers are published in the journal Proceedings on Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PoPETs). Submitted papers should present novel practical and/or theoretical research into the design, analysis, experimentation, or fielding of privacy-enhancing technologies. While PETS/PoPETs has traditionally been home to research on anonymity systems and privacy-oriented cryptography, we strongly encourage submissions on a number of both well-established and emerging privacy-related topics, for which examples are provided below.
PoPETs, a scholarly, open access journal for timely research papers on privacy, has been established as a way to improve reviewing and publication quality while retaining the highly successful PETS community event. PoPETs is published by De Gruyter Open, the world's second largest publisher of open access academic content, and part of the De Gruyter group, which has over 260 years of publishing history. PoPETs does not have article processing charges (APCs) or article submission charges.
Authors can submit papers to PoPETs four times a year, every three months on a predictable schedule. Authors are notified of the decisions about two months after submission. In addition to âacceptâ and ârejectâ decisions, papers may receive âmajor revisionâ decisions, in which case authors are invited to revise and resubmit their article to one of the following two submission deadlines. We endeavor to assign the same reviewers to revised versions. Papers accepted for publication within or before the February deadline round will be presented at that year's symposium. Note that accepted papers must be presented at PETS.
PoPETs also solicits submissions for Systematization of Knowledge (SoK) papers. These are papers that critically review, evaluate, and contextualize work in areas for which a body of prior literature exists, and whose contribution lies in systematizing the existing knowledge in that area. To be suitable for publication, SoK articles must provide an added value beyond a literature review, such as novel insights, identification of research gaps, or challenges to commonly held assumptions. SoK papers will follow the same review process as other submissions, and will be published in PoPETs and presented at the PETS 2017 event.

Submission Guidelines
=====================
Papers not following these instructions risk being rejected without consideration of their merits!
Submitted papers must be at most 15 pages excluding bibliography and appendices and 20 pages total in De Gruyter Open format (LaTeX template). PC members are not required to read the appendices, which should only be used to provide additional supporting information.
Unlike journals that publish extended versions of conference papers, PoPETs seeks to publish original, previously unpublished work. Submitted papers must not substantially overlap with papers that have been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference with proceedings. The paper should start with the title and an abstract. The introduction should give some background and summarize the contributions of the paper at a level appropriate for a non-specialist reader.
Anonymization of Submissions
============================
All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality and relevance through double-blind reviewing, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers. As an author, you are required to make a good-faith effort to preserve the anonymity of your submission, while at the same time allowing the reader to fully grasp the context of related past work, including your own. It is recognized that, at times, information regarding the identities of authors may become public outside the submission process (e.g., if a pre-print is published as a technical report or on a pre-print server) â the PC will ignore this external information. Minimally, please take the following steps when preparing your submission:
-Remove the names and affiliations of authors from the title page.
-Remove acknowledgment of identifying names and funding sources.
-Use care in referring to related work, particularly your own. Do not omit references to provide anonymity, as this leaves the reviewer unable to grasp the context. Instead, reference your past work in the third person, just as you would any other piece of related work by another author.
Security Proofs
Some papers require lengthy security proofs to support the technical validity of the contribution. These papers should indicate this in the body of the paper and include the proof in the appendix. The acceptance or rejection notification for these papers may be delayed to allow for the proof to be reviewed, meaning that the paper may appear in the issue following the one to which it was submitted. A paper submitted to the February deadline may or may not be reviewed in time for the paper to be presented at that yearâs symposium. If this occurs the paper will be published in Issue 1 of the following year and presented at that yearâs symposium.
Ethics
======
Papers describing experiments with users or user data (e.g., network traffic, passwords, social network information), should follow the basic principles of ethical research, e.g., beneficence (maximizing the benefits to an individual or to society while minimizing harm to the individual), minimal risk (appropriateness of the risk versus benefit ratio), voluntary consent, respect for privacy, and limited deception. Authors are encouraged to include a subsection on Ethical Principles if human subjects research is conducted, and such a discussion may be required if deemed necessary during the review process. This section should include a justification of the ethics of the work and information about whether the work was submitted to an external ethics panel such as an IRB. Research that is deemed to not have met adequate ethical standards may be rejected on those grounds. Authors are encouraged to contact PC chairs before submitting to clarify any doubts.
Copyright
=========
Accepted papers will be published as an open access journal by De Gruyter Open, the world's second largest publisher of open access academic content, and part of the De Gruyter group, which has over 260 years of publishing history. Authors retain copyright of their work. Papers will be published under an open access policy using a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs license.
Best Student Paper Award
========================
The Andreas Pftzmann PETS 2017 Best Student Paper Award will be selected at PETS 2017. Papers written solely or primarily by a student who is presenting the work at PETS 2017 are eligible for the award.
Submission
==========
Papers must be submitted via the PETS 2017 submission server. The URL for Issue 3 is: https://submit.petsymposium.org/2017.3/.
HotPETs
=======
As with the last several years, part of the symposium will be devoted to HotPETs â the "hottest," most exciting research ideas still in a formative state. Further information will be published on the PETS 2017 website soon.
