CALL FOR PAPERS
----------------------------------------
Springer Computing Journal- Special Issue on Sustainable Computing Systems and Applications
http://static.springer.com/sgw/documents/1494514/application/pdf/CfP_Sustai…
Guest editors
Danilo Ardagna, Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy
Cinzia Cappiello, Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy
**Deadline: 1st September 2015**
--------------------------------------
ICT and Green are two tightly related concepts. ICT systems in fact might support sustainability in different ways. On the one hand, the design of more efficient ICT systems can contribute in reducing the ICT energy consumption that is continuously increasing. In some regions of the world (e.g., US and UK) the energy consumed by the data centers is close to 10% of the total energy consumed in the area by the country. For example, Facebook data centers consumed overall 822 million of KWh in 2013 but the company is particularly committed to reduce its environmental impact and has implemented very energy efficient systems. The carbon intensity per person nowadays is 0.000311 MT of CO2, in other words, using Facebook for one year has about the same carbon impact as a making a medium cappuccino. On the other hand, ICT can be used to monitor the environmental impact of other systems (e.g., buildings, transportation) and to support green-aware decisions.
The purpose of this Special Issue is to select innovative contributions that deal with novel methodologies, approaches and solutions for designing Green ICT systems or Subject Coverage which show ICT innovative applications for building environmentally friendly and sustainable systems.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Energy efficient software
• Green business processes
• Green Software metrics
• Design of energy efficient data centers
• Green monitoring and middleware for systems adaptation
• Data centers energy storage and thermal control for energy efficiency
• Performance optimization under power constraints
• Green network design for high density data centers and cloud computing
• Green/federated data centers powered by renewable energy systems
• Software and services for sustainable environment
• Using ICT to reduce carbon emissions
• Smart transportation and manufacturing
• Smart buildings and urban development
• User studies and behavioral change enabled by computing and communication technologies
• Power measurements and data from empirical studies of computer and communication infrastructure
• Industrial experiences

CONTEXT AND SCOPE
Enterprises increasingly recognize the compelling economic and
operational benefits of Cloud Computing. Virtualizing and pooling IT
resources in the cloud enables organizations to realize significant cost
savings and accelerates deployment of new applications, simultaneously
transforming business and government at an unprecedented pace. However,
those valuable business benefits cannot be unlocked without addressing
new data security challenges posed by Cloud Computing.
Deploying confidential information and critical IT resources in the
Cloud raises concerns about vulnerability to attack, especially because
of the anonymous, multi-tenant nature of cloud computing. Applications
and storage volumes often reside next to potentially hostile virtual
environments, leaving information at risk to theft, unauthorized
exposure or malicious manipulation. Governmental regulation of data
privacy and location presents the additional concern of significant
legal and financial consequences if data confidentiality is breached, or
if Cloud providers inadvertently move regulated data across
international borders.
This workshop aims to provide a fertile ground for creative debate and
presentation of research results, practical experiences, and innovative
ideas in all security aspects related to cloud computing. CloudSPD'15
focuses on Cloud Computing security, and invites research efforts from
both the academia and industry in order to facilitate the dissemination
of research and development of the next generation cloud platforms,
applications and methods that will lead to better and more secure by
design cloud-based systems.

** Business Informatics
-------------------------------------
Business Informatics is the scientific discipline targeting information processes and related phenomena in their socio-economical business context, including companies, organizations, administrations and society in general. Business Informatics is a fertile ground for research with the potential for immense and tangible impact. As a field of study, it endeavors to take a systematic and analytic approach in aligning core concepts from management science, organizational science, economics, information science, and informatics into an integrated engineering science.
** Goal of the conference series
-------------------------------------
The goal of the CBI series of conferences is to bring together existing Business Informatics related research domains and stimulate discussion, synergy and integration of their respective research results and activities. Accordingly, the CBI conferences use a format that enables in depth discussions among researchers in their respective domains during the conference. In addition, the contributions and discussions among the different domains are channeled towards a series of books dedicated to Advances in Business Informatics. For more information on the CBI series, refer to: www.cbi-series.org
The CBI is aimed at creating a forum for researchers and practitioners from various fields that contribute to the construction, use and maintenance of information systems and the organizational context they are embedded in. Last but not least, we want to offer a common platform for Computer Science and Information Systems researchers. The benefits of such a cross-disciplinary conception are contrasted by a challenge: Authors who submit a paper take the risk to be assessed by standards that are different from those they are used to in their own communities. The CBI's organization accounts for this challenge. It comprises various Tracks that represent more than one individual community. Tracks are not only intended to represent a certain subject area, but also to include papers from different communities.
When submitting a paper, authors are expected to name the Track (optionally, two ordered Tracks) they feel most related to.

Betreff: [WI] Call for Paper für MKWI-Teilkonferenz:
Software-Produktmanagement
Datum: Thu, 6 Aug 2015 15:22:34 +0000
Von: Martin Mikusz <mikusz(a)wius.bwi.uni-stuttgart.de>

Call for Paper für MKWI-Teilkonferenz: Software-Produktmanagement
Multikonferenz Wirtschaftsinformatik 2016, 09. bis 11. März 2016 in Ilmenau
http://www.mkwi2016.de
Leitung
-------
Prof. Dr. Georg Herzwurm, Universität Stuttgart (herzwurm(a)wius.bwi.uni-stuttgart.de)
Dipl. Math. Jens Borchers, Sopra Steria Consulting, Hamburg
Prof. Dr. Marco Kuhrmann, University of Southern Denmark, Odense
Dr. Martin Mikusz, Universität Stuttgart
Prof. (em.) Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Spitta, Universität Bielefeld
Inhalt
------

ARTICLE 1
Evolving a Social Networking Platform into a Smart Personalised Learning Environment (PLE) or the Other Way Around: Your Choice?
Steve Goschnick (Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia)
The future of learning environments lies with the merging of the better aspects of Learning Management Systems (LMS), with those popularised in Social Networking platforms, to personalise the individual learning experience in a PLE (Personal Learning Environment). After examining the details of a particularly flexible LMS, followed by the investigation of several key data structures behind the Facebook social networking platform, this paper then demonstrates how such a merging can be done at the conceptual schema level, and presents a list of novel features that it then enables.

ARTICLE 2
Traceable Pedagogical Design Rationales for Personalized Learning Technologies: An Interoperable System-to-System Approach
Georg Weichhart (Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria & Profactor GmbH, Steyr, Austria), Chris Stary (Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria)
Although a large number of e-learning systems for individual learning support exist today, many of them still deal with pedagogical issues in an isolated way. In contrast, intertwining interactive system features with educational concepts allows pedagogical designs that may be considered according to their educational rationale. However, pedagogical approaches also do not provide requirements for technologies; they rather consider tools and features as predefined design parameters. Taking an interoperability point of view allows focus on the interaction between the pedagogical and the technological systems. By interpreting technology and didactic approaches as systems and ensuring their interoperability, educators are able to adapt learning experiences and technological features in a way that the overall learning system becomes personalized. A key element of the described work is an architecture that captures the design elements from both progressive education focusing on individual learning support, and the enabling web-based e-learning technologies.

Modeling the Interplay Between Knowledge and Affective Engagement in Students
Sarah E. Schultz (Department of Computer Science, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA, USA), Ivon Arroyo (Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA, USA)
Two major goals in Educational Data Mining are determining students' state of knowledge and determining their affective state as students progress through the learning session. While many models and solutions have been explored for each of these problems, relatively little work has been done on examining these states in parallel, even though the psychology literature suggests that it is an interplay of both of these states that influences how a student performs and behaves. This work proposes a model that takes into account the performance and behavior of students when working with an Intelligent Tutoring System in order to track both knowledge and engagement and tests it on data from two different systems and explores the usefulness of such models.

ARTICLE 4
Understanding Wheel Spinning in the Context of Affective Factors
Ma. Mercedes T. Rodrigo (Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City, Philippines), Joseph Barbosa Beck (Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA, USA)
The notion of wheel spinning, students getting stuck in the mastery learning cycle of an ITS without mastering the skill, is an emerging issue. Although wheel spinning has been analyzed, there has been little work in understanding what factors underlie it, and whether it occurs in cultural contexts outside that of the United States. This work is an extension of an earlier analysis of 116 students in an urban setting in the Philippines. The authors found that Filipino students using the Scatterplot Tutor exhibited wheel spinning behaviors. The authors explored the impact of an intervention, Scooter the Tutor, on wheel spinning behavior and did not find that it had any effect. They also analyzed data from quantitative field observations, and found that wheel spinning is prevented by engaged concentration, caused by confusion, but not causally related to boredom. This result suggests that the problem of wheel spinning is primarily cognitive in nature, and not related to student motivation. However, wheel spinning was positively correlated with gaming the system, and causal analysis suggests that wheel spinning causes gaming.

*** Call for Posters & Demos and Doctoral Symposium ***
8th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Utility and Cloud
Computing (UCC 2015)
December 07-10, 2015, St. Raphael Resort, Limassol, Cyprus
http://cyprusconferences.org/ucc2015
*** DEADLINE: 28 August, 2015 ***
CONTEXT AND SCOPE
Cloud Computing delivers computational resources on-demand as services
that are commoditized and delivered analogous to traditional utilities such as
electricity, gas, water and telephony. Cloud service offerings for compute,
storage and communication resources as well as for hosted software and data
are growing at a tremendous rate, and it is essential to understand how to
effectively transform these services into Utilities that provide value to both
users and providers. There is also increasing interest from commercial
providers to offer business and revenue models around the services they
offer. Understanding how these models could be used to provide utility for
users, intermediary brokers (aggregators) and providers is also an area of
active research. UCC is the premier IEEE/ACM conference covering all areas
related to Cloud Computing as a Utility and provides an international forum
for leading researchers and practitioners in this important and growing field.
UCC 2015, to be held in Cyprus, will happen as Cloud providers worldwide
add new services and increase Cloud utility at an accelerated pace, and Cloud
service users explore new usage modes.
This will be the 8th UCC in a successful conference series. Previous events
were held in Shanghai, China (Cloud 2009), Melbourne, Australia (Cloud 2010
& UCC 2011), Chennai, India (UCC 2010), Chicago, USA (UCC 2012), Dresden,
Germany (UCC2013), and London, UK (UCC 2014).
