On the Beautiful Kauai Island
Emerging issues like big data, data analytics, visual analytics, data mining, crowd--sourcing, e-government, e-health and m-commerce are giving new meaning to distributed decision making. Coordination among individuals with varying skills is becoming common. Gartner group predicts that Swarm teams will become norm in the future. Given the global nature of world economy, outsourcing is becoming a norm creating temporary or swarm teams. Companies are no longer providing long-term contracts but are renewing them based on deliverables from outsourced companies. This is putting tremendous pressure on teams to deliver quality product on time at a reasonable cost. Team adaptability and team configuration are becoming crucial to meet deadlines. Teams must be able to adapt quickly to the changing environment be it face-to-face, mobile or in the cloud. Agile teams adapt and deliver quickly and provide maximum customer satisfaction. By definition, however, agile teams must be co-located. Can distributed teams be agile and adaptable? This requires careful team configuration. This mini-track examines the emerging issues related to team configuration and performance in distributed environment. Some research related to outsourcing of structured tasks has been done, but research related to emerging issues like diversity, cohesiveness, agility and adaptability related to group collaboration across semi or unstructured tasks is still emerging. In addition, cloud computing is making it feasible to provide computing services at a reasonable cost. As cloud computing diffuses, decision making either individually or in a group using resources on the clouds is not far behind. Cloud computing will provide tremendous opportunities to distributed groups to make any time any place decisions at a reasonable cost. In addition, the "e (Internet)" to "m (mobile)" to "c (cloud) transformation is creating exciting opportunities for groups to make real time decisions in a mobile possibly in the cloud environment .
Distributed teams, however, face many challenges of time, location, infrastructure, language, customs, socialization and politics. This is further compounded in globally distributed teams by diversity, nationality and cultural issues. As old issue are resolved, new challenges emerge that require knowledge from multiple disciplines such as information systems, social sciences, international management, leadership and political science. It is almost impossible for one individual to have expertise in so many domains, which makes this a very challenging but ultimately rewarding collaborative area of research. Given the richness and research potential of this area, it is essential to brainstorm and bring diverse points of view to develop underlying theory and frameworks. The mini track will attempt to accomplish these objectives.
The mini track will address emerging issue such as diversity, culture, adaptability and agility related to teams in distributed group decision making, as well as the underlying theories of group dynamics, coordination, communications and decision-making in distributed environments, in creation of competitive advantage. Examples of topics in the discussion of globally distributed decision making mini-track will include the following (but are not limited to):
* Disaster management
* Swift team collaboration
* Sub groups impact on team collaboration
* Big data collaboration
* E-government(s) inter- , intra-collaboration
* Collaboration through crowdsourcing
* Emergency disaster planning through collaboration
* Collaboration in the cloud.
* Public-private collaboration
* Delivering health services through collaboration
* Economics of distributed decision making in the clouds
* Trust and distrust as motivator in distributed decision making
* Can agile teams be globally distributed?
* Agile/Adaptable team configuration in globally distributed teams
* The "e (internet)" to "m (mobile)" transformation of globally distributed teams
* Communication and coordination in globally distributed teams
* Diversity issues in globally distributed teams
* Customer satisfaction, performance and "trust" building in globally distributed teams
* Synchronous and asynchronous decision making in globally distributed teams
* Comparison of issues across internal, inter-, intra and offshore distributed teams
* Turbulent economy and its impact on outsourcing
* Models of globally distributed agile/adaptable teams
* Knowledge creation, transfer and integration across globally distributed teams
* Leadership/cohesiveness issues in globally distributed teams
* Issues related to functional and dysfunctional globally distributed teams
* Security, privacy and risk associated with globally distributed teams
* Case Studies (success/failures) related to decision making by globally distributed teams

CALL FOR PAPERS for HICSS-49
Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences
Additional detail may be found on HICSS primary web site: (http://www.hicss.org/)
Smart service systems can be characterized by: (1) the types of offerings to their customers and/or citizens, (2) the types of jobs or roles for people within them, and (3) the types of returns they offer investors interested in growth and development, through improved use of technology, talent, or organizational and governance forms, which create (dis)incentives that (re)shape behaviors. An important trend in smart service systems is the increasing availability of cognitive assistants (e.g., Siri, Watson, Jibo, Echo, etc.) to boost productivity and creativity of all the people inside them. There is a need to apply robust research findings in the appropriate management and organizational contexts related to innovation of smart service systems, service innovation, quality, architecture, design and delivery, and the resulting customer satisfaction and business value. In part, because of analytics and cognitive systems, smart service systems adapt to a constantly changing environment to
benefit customers and providers. Using big data analytics, service providers try to compete for customers by (1) improving existing offerings to customers, (2) innovating new types of offerings, (3) evolving their portfolio of offerings and making better recommendations to customers, (4) changing their relationships to suppliers and others in the ecosystem in ways their customers perceive as more sustainable, fair, or responsible.
The goal of this track is to explore the challenges, issues and opportunities related to innovation of smart service systems that enable value co-creation with analytics, cognitive and human systems. We are interested in novel theories, approaches and applications for innovation of smart service systems. Possible topics of applied, field and empirical research include, but are not limited to:
- Theories, approaches and applications for innovation of smart service systems
- Value co-creation processes, metrics and analytics for smart innovation processes
- Methods scale the benefits of new knowledge globally, rapidly, and profitably
- Service-oriented agile IT realization platform for smart service co-creation
- Place of cognitive systems, computing, system engineering, cloud for smart service systems
- Innovation ecosystems with internet and internet-of-things
- Theories and approaches for integrating analytical and intuitive thinking processes
- Open innovation and social responsibility
- Planning, building and managing design and innovation infrastructures and platforms
- Technology and organizational platforms support rapid scaling processes (smart phones, franchises, etc.)
- Smart service systems include the customer, provider, and other entities as sources of capabilities, resources, demand, constraints, rights, responsibilities in value co-creation processes, and includes current applications of human and cognitive systems
- Analytics models, tools and engine for analytics support
- Agile business development platform for operational enablement: business processes, rules, real-time event management
- The commoditization of business processes (e.g. out-tasking, ITIL, SCORE), software (e.g. the software-as-service model, software oriented architecture, application service providers) and hardware (e.g., on-demand, utility computing, cloud computing, software oriented infrastructure with virtualized resources, infrastructure service providers for innovations
- Self-service and smart technologies & management for sustainable innovations
- Services implications to value chains, networks, constellations and shops
- Collaborative innovation management in B2B and B2C e-commerce
IMPORTANT DEADLINES

Betreff: Special Issue on Ubiquitous Media Systems
Datum: Wed, 03 Jun 2015 23:08:08 -0000
Von: sender(a)ekimelu.com
An: neumann(a)wu-wien.ac.at
*Call for Papers: Ubiquitous Media Systems*
/Special issue of the Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic
Commerce Research/
Guest Editors: Eusebio Scornavacca, Stefano Za, Kevin Carillo
The /Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce Research/is
planning a special issue on Ubiquitous Media Systems.
As of 2014, the total number of all types of mobile-connected devices
has exceeded the world’s population and is forecasted to reach 1.5
devices per human being in 2019 [1]. The pace of the emergence and
mainstream adoption of new forms of ubiquitous computing devices such as
smartphones, tablets and ‘phablets’ has not ceased gaining momentum -
demarking an evolutionary step in the /ubiquitous computing/trend [2].
The extinction of mobile phones and the proliferation of fluid
multi-device platforms such as iOS, Android and Windows 8 have blurred
the traditional boundaries between stationary and mobile information
systems [3], [4].
This dissolution of the traditional segmentation of computing contexts
represents a remarkable shift in the fundamental temporospatial nature
of IT artifacts [5], [6]. Indeed, individuals are gradually ceasing to
perceive their mobile and non-mobile devices as independent ecosystems,
but rather as an evolving collection of interconnected devices that are
progressively playing a major role in their daily lives [7], [8]. This
significant technological evolution has given birth to a new and complex
form of connected IT artifact, Ubiquitous Media Systems (UMS), that
encapsulates various functions and provides fluid information access
across a variety of channels; allowing users to accomplish a multitude
of tasks and interact fluidly in a ubiquitous ecosystem [4].
As information access becomes fully ubiquitous and the utilitarian, as
well as hedonic functionalities of those devices increase, the emergence
of fluid and evolving techno-ecosystems poses important challenges and
opportunities for ecommerce theory and practice. By gradually blurring
physical, social and temporal boundaries /ubiquitous media systems
/allow to//deliver new as well as existing online products and services
through a multitude of interconnected channels, but also engender
radically novel and unthought-of opportunities for e-commerce [9]–[11].
Ubiquitous access to the Internet of things also represents new
marketing opportunities for businesses as well as the challenge to
deeply understand users’ behavior in this fluid digital ecosystem [12].
Apprehending /ubiquitous media systems /user behavior is a difficult
challenge as the rules that govern its functioning keep being redefined
each time a new form of connected device appears on the market [13], [14].
Unfortunately, the understanding of the specificities that surround
/ubiquitous media systems/in the electronic and mobile commerce contexts
is also limited in information systems research [15], [16]. There is a
general tendency to focus on individual or subsets of devices,
functionalities, or sub-phenomena, which leads to a fragmented and
distorted understanding of the /ubiquitous media systems /reality [17],
[18]. This new, complex, interconnected and amalgamated form of IT
artifact requires a more holistic and encompassing research approach
that is capable of capturing the specificities and pervasiveness of
/ubiquitous media systems. /
*Subject Coverage*
The objective of this Special Issue is to present the current state of
research and practical experiences on /ubiquitous media systems/from the
perspective of electronic commerce research. Particularly we welcome

Betreff: NEW ACM JOURNAL ANNOUNCEMENT and Call for Papers
Datum: Wed, 3 Jun 2015 11:00:00 -0400 (EDT)

NEW ACM JOURNAL ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL FOR PAPERS
*NEW ACM JOURNAL ANNOUNCEMENT
and CALL FOR PAPERS*
ACM Transactions on Cyber-Physical Systems
*Editor-in-Chief*
Tei-Wei Kuo, National Taiwan University and Academia Sinica, Taiwan
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Information For Contributors*
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) has emerged as a unifying name for systems
where the cyber parts (i.e., the computing and communication parts) and
the physical parts are tightly integrated, both at the design time and
during operation. Such systems use computations and communication deeply
embedded in and interacting with physical processes to add new
capabilities to physical systems. These cyber-physical systems range
from miniscule (pace makers) to large-scale (a national power-grid).
There is an emerging consensus that new methodologies and tools need to
be developed to support cyber-physical systems.
/ACM Transactions on Cyber-Physical Systems/ (TCPS) is the premier
journal for the publication of high-quality original research papers and
survey papers that have scientific and technological understanding of
the interactions of information processing, networking and physical
processes.
TCPS will cover the following topics:
* Computation Abstractions
* System Modeling and Languages
* System Compositionality and Integration
* Design Automation and Tool Chains
* Trustworthy System Designs
* Resilient and Robust System Designs
* Human in the Loop
The application domains covered by TCPS include, but not limited to:
Healthcare, Transportation, Automotive, Avionics, Energy, Living Space,
and Robotics.

Betreff: [AISWorld] HICSS Call for papers: Emerging Technologies and
Innovations for Development
Datum: Mon, 1 Jun 2015 21:17:13 +0000
Von: Sajda Qureshi <squreshi(a)unomaha.edu>

Mini-track: Emerging Technologies and Innovations for Development
Call for papers
Emerging technologies, such as mobile payment systems have been seen to promote income generation among entrepreneurs in Africa and Asia. In recent years, the majority of innovations in technology are taking place in countries previously considered to be at the fringes of Development. China has overtaken the USA as the country with the largest number of internet users and has as many or more mobile phone users than the whole of Europe. The majority of users in mobile payments are in Kenya, and such mobile applications are fueling its growth and that of countries around it. Countries such as Uganda have consistently seen high growth rates and have utilized innovations to address problems in areas such as healthcare. Mobile payment systems fuel entire agriculture supply chains. Latin American countries are innovatively applying emerging technologies to support new industries such as wheat farming in Brazil, and salmon farming in Chile. Small Island States which suffer the most from ris
ing sea levels due to climate change are pursuing partnerships and policies to transfer technology in areas such as global health and agriculture; to sustain their fragile economies through natural disasters. Such countries are increasingly relying on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for disaster forecasting, monitoring, and recovery. There are also efforts to use innovations in ICTs to enhance citizen engagement and empowerment.
The implications of innovations in mobile technologies have meant that for every 100 cellphones in a typical developing country, GDP grows by a factor of 0.8 (Economist 2009). According to the World Bank there is growth by a factor of 3.4 between businesses in a typical developing country which use ICT and those that do not. This difference amounts to a 750% growth in businesses that adopt ICTs compared to those that do not. The same study showed an increase in profitability by 113% and labour productivity of 56%. The global market for IT based services has been estimated to be approximately $800 billion. Only about a third of this potential has been realized (World Bank 2012, p.16). In this sense, ICTs can be employed to bring about increased competitiveness if their adoption enables businesses to create new jobs, increase productivity and sales through access to new markets and administrative efficiencies. These outcomes can be observed through measurable improvements in the lives
of people living with limited resources to sustain themselves.
This mini-track invites submissions that are theoretically and empirically sound while offering implications for practice. Topics include but are not limited to:
1. Affordable and accessible broadband connectivity - TV White Space
2. Involvement of youths in innovative solutions
3. New developments in virtual currencies e.g. Bitcoin
4. Innovations in fighting child exploitation and bullying over the internet
5. Technologies for Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) Markets
6. Frugal innovations and applications
7. Global telecommunication infrastructures for development
8. Applications to support Entrepreneurship and business growth such as micro-finance, micro-insurance and crowdfunding.
9. Mobile payments systems and market access such as MPesa penetration and growth of businesses
10. Cybercafe's, tele-centers and community based ICTs effects on the lives of people
11. Green Information Technology
12. Cloud computing for development
13. Policy implications for stimulating the growth of ICTs
14. Governance models (national and international) for emerging technologies
15. Policy, legal, and regulatory implications for adopting and using emerging ICTs to advance development objectives.
16. Implications of emerging ICTs for security, privacy, transparency, and citizen empowerment.
17. Emerging technologies and applications to provide information on climate change and disaster forecasting, monitoring, and recovery
18. Using ICTs to support responses to conflict and violence.
19. Innovative uses of emerging technologies to promote literacy
20. Effects of ICT adoption on Social and human development
21. Climate change and disaster recovery technologies and applications
22. Healthcare applications to combat the spread of infectious diseases such as mobile health, healthcare social networks and health information applications
23. Community health informatics and automated healthcare services
Theoretical, conceptual and empirical papers are welcome. Submissions that include theory development, frameworks and models for studying and applying emerging technologies are encouraged. For empirical papers, field studies, case studies, action research, innovative online data collection methods, and appropriate quantitative techniques are strongly recommended. Papers submitted should explicitly state their research methods.
Dates For Submission to HICSS-49 are as follows:
June 15: Deadline to submit full manuscripts for review. Review is double-blind; therefore this submission must be without author names.
Aug 15: Review System emails Acceptance Notices to authors. At least one author of each accepted paper must attend the conference. All travel guarantees - including visa or fiscal/ funding procedures - should begin immediately after you receive the notification of acceptance. Make sure your server accepts the address from our review system.
Sep 15: Early Registration fee deadline. (Fees will increase on Sept 16 and Dec 1.) At least one author of each paper should register by Sept 15 in order secure publication in the Conference Proceedings. Add author names, and submit Final Paper for Publication to the Submission site (not previous review site).
Oct 15: Papers without at least one registered author will be removed from the Proceedings; authors will be so notified.
