Special Track on Search, Comparison and Recommender Systems
16th International Conference on Electronic Commerce and Web
Technologies - EC-Web 2015
Valencia, Spain
September 1 - 2, 2015
EC-Web is an international scientific conference series devoted to
technology related aspects of e-Commerce and e-Business. The 16th
edition of the conference, EC-Web 2015, will take place in Valencia,
Spain in September 2015 and will serve as a forum to bring together
researchers and practitioners to present and discuss recent advances in
their fields.
SPECIAL TRACK on Search, Comparison and Recommender Systems
In the Web era, resource retrieval techniques play a fundamental role in
helping the users to deal with the issues related to information
overload. Today's search engines as well as matchmaking systems are no
more working solely on pure text/keyword analysis. Their results are
computed and enriched by putting together, e.g., link-based data, user
preferences as well as information encoded into the so called knowledge
graphs. The same happens for personalized information filtering systems,
such as recommender systems, where pure collaborative and content-based
approaches are hybridized with each other, combined and fed by many
different and diverse data sources in order to improve not only the
accuracy of results but also their novelty, diversity, and serendipity.
This track will mainly focus on:
- Search
- Knowledge graphs
- Matchmaking
- Recommender systems
- User modeling
- Preference representation and reasoning
- Similarity metrics
Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research papers
at http://confdriver.ifs.tuwien.ac.at/dexa2015
The manuscripts are limited to 12 pages using the Springer LNBIP style
sheet: http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-791344-0
The selection of papers will be based on a peer-review process by
selected international experts. Each paper will be peer-reviewed by at
least 3 reviewers. The proceedings will be published in the Springer
Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing (LNBIP) series.

Motivation and Background
We are entering a golden age of e-learning.
E-learning could be at a Tipping Point as
Americans trust in the quality of e-learning
grows, and the number of students who take at
least one online course continues to increase.
Now is the time to make e-learning more
successful. The success of an e-learning system
can be measured in terms of learning outcomes and
learner satisfaction, two dependent constructs
that have been widely accepted in the e-learning
literature. Learning outcomes are measured by
progress on relevant objectives set by the
instructor including progress on gaining factual
knowledge, learning fundamental principles, and
learning to apply what is learned to improve
problem solving. Learner satisfaction is measured
by the degree of satisfaction with perceived
outcomes of taking online courses, courses, and instructors.
This special issue is dedicated to identifying
and effectively managing critical success factors
for e-learning that enable e-learning outcomes to
equal if not surpass those of face-to-face
instruction. Moreover, it seeks to draw on
experience with e-learning systems to provide
direction for future developments in this domain.
Conceptual frameworks, qualitative research, and
empirical studies in the following areas are encouraged
· Review, critical analysis, and/or
meta-analysis of past research to evaluate the
current state of e-learning and to guide future
directions for e-learning development
· Conceptual frameworks for e-learning
· Dimensions of e-learning systems

Introduction
The importance of Systems Analysis and Design (SA&D) for any program of study in information systems and to the field of Information Technology (IT) development is well summarized by Harris et al. (2006). The re-emerging interest in SA&D a few years ago (see Parsons et al., (2005)) was evolving in parallel with a renewed interest in the applicability of systems thinking to Information Systems as a discipline (see Mora et al., 2007, Petkov et al., 2008). A number of relevant papers on the application of systemic approaches to Information Systems development were published over the last seven years in the International Journal on Information Technologies and the Systems Approach (IJITSA). The body of knowledge in Soft Systems Methodology has reached a stage of maturity that allows reflections on how it is applied in practice (see Checkland & Winter (2006) for general insights on SSM and Rose & Saifullah (2012) for a recent case study of its application to IS development). The Work System Theory by Steven Alter, a systemic methodology specifically developed to bridge the gap in the language of IT practitioners and the clients, has also been the subject of increasing research (see Alter (2013)). We seek to identify the state of research on applying or teaching systemic approaches to systems analysis and design in the last several years and hence this special issue call for papers.
Objective
The objective of the special issue is to disseminate high quality research that links systemic approaches and systems analysis and design and shows how that can be practiced in IT projects or how such ideas can be taught to IT students at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
Recommended Topics
- Combining systemic thinking and agile software development
- Combining systemic thinking and object oriented analysis
- Management of software development, action research and systems thinking
- Using systemic action research for studying the effectiveness of object oriented modeling
- Using systemic approaches to decide on development methods enabling balance between discipline and agility in software development (as advocated by Boehm &Turner, 2004)
- Systems approaches applied to the management of IT outsourcing
- Systemic approaches, systems analysis and design science research in IS
- Systems Analysis and Design in the curriculum
- System Analysis and Design methods and Process Models and Standards (ISO 12207, ISO 29110, CMMI, among others)
- System Dynamics Models for supporting System Analysis and Design
- Systemic thinking and software requirements analysis
- Soft Systems Methodology and action research applied to IS development
- Teaching systems approaches to IT students and practitioners
- Work System Theory and its applications
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special theme issue on SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND SYSTEMIC THINKING – RESEARCH AND TEACHING ISSUES on or before April 30th, 2015. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/Files/AuthorEditor/guidelinessubmission.pdf. All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow APA style for reference citations. All manuscript submissions to IJITSA should be sent through the online submission system:http://www.igi-global.com/authorseditors/titlesubmission/newproject.…

New Ways of Working: Changing Nature of Work with ICT
Guest Editors: Jungwoo Lee, Professor, Yonsei University, jlee(a)yonsei.ac.kr
Sandeep Purao, Professor, Penn State University, spurao(a)ist.psu.edu
SUBMISSION DUE: April 26, 2015 / Published in June Issue (Quick Turnaround)
JITS will be publishing a series of special section in 2015 dedicated to “new ways of working: changing nature of work with ICT.” With smart technologies, the very nature of work is changing. As work is deeply embedded in the fabric of our life, rules and institutions of our society change. Although many studies have been conducted concerning business process innovations and new business models, studies concerning what people actually do in these new processes and organizations are very scarce.
We invite practitioners as well as academics to submit insights, frameworks, cases and research contributions concerning the changing nature of work and the evolving workplace practices. The scope will be shaped only by the imaginations and creativity of authors.
JITS welcomes different investigative approaches including conceptual, organizational, behavioral, economic, social and technological ones. Submissions of manuscripts dealing with trans-disciplinary issues across different domains and methods are strongly encouraged. We are interested in developing research frameworks and issues, and welcome qualitative and/or prescriptive research, especially studies that can help readers to conceptualize new ways of working including technologies and social institutions, that are archetypical of new information and knowledge based economies. We also welcome quantitative pieces shedding lights on the changing nature of work.
To submit a manuscript, go to the website (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=2015kits) and follow the directions. Please submit your manuscript as a single file to be used in the refereeing process. This can be a PDF file or a Word document, in any format or lay-out that can be used by referees to evaluate your manuscript. It should contain high enough quality figures for refereeing. There are no strict formatting requirements but all manuscripts must contain the essential elements needed to convey your manuscript, for example abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, conclusions. All submitted articles will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis.
JITS is published quarterly on March, June, September, and December. Manuscripts for these special sections will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout 2015 according to the schedule below. Guest editors assure that the initial review for each submission will take less than a month. For any questions or comments, contact the admin support at isrc(a)yonsei.ac.kr.
