*Background*
The year was 1997 and a bunch of colleagues had gotten together in the
CSA Bar at Cranfield University, UK. The game of darts was in full
swing. An idea popped â how interesting would it be to organize a
Business Information Technology conference at a location where
traditionally such conferences never venture to be. Very quickly New
Delhi as a location was suggested. An email was sent to Professor Gordon
Davis at the University of Minnesota to be the inaugural keynote
speaker. And without much ado, we had an event at our hands. Professor
Rekha Jain of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad became the local
organizing chair.
In years to come the conference grew from strength to strength and
events were organized in South Africa, Egypt, Ecuador, Mexico among
other places. For the past few years though, BITWorld was co-hosted
with CITED in Nigeria, CoDE in Thailand and China and CISTM in India.
The next event is being decoupled from the co-hosts and will take place
in Las Vegas, Nevada on*Â May 19-21, 2015*. We look forward to carrying
forward a rich tradition of BITWorld events in 2015 and beyond.Â
BITWorldincludes a full program of papers, presentations, keynotes and
publishing events, and aspires to bring together academics, researchers
and practitioners from all over the world to engage in dialogue and
exchange ideas on the latest developments and challenges in Information
Technology.
*Scope and Aims*
The conference aims to bring together researchers and practitioners
interested in studying and discussing a range of leadership challenges
as these might relate to their particular businesses and industry. Such
dialogue will facilitate the development of agendas for further research
and development. We invite you to consider submitting your research

+++ TRACK DESCRIPTION +++
During the last twenty years or so, organizations have strived to become
more process-oriented and also more co-creative when delivering value in
terms of services and products to their customers. A fundamental
principle of both process orientation and value co-creation is to span
boundaries within and across organizations. For boundary spanning,
organizations, employees and customers (or people in general) rely on
information systems as well as related techniques, models and methods.
In today’s world, boundaries are becoming increasingly dynamic. On the
one hand, inter- and intra-organizational boundaries blur as people
engage with each other in social media or other virtual communities.
Organizations utilize web-based platforms with externals, e.g., in order
to gather ideas for innovations from their customers and to streamline
operations with business partners. Looking at the internal of the
organization, employees are expected to participate actively in business
process management (e.g., in terms of Social BPM), knowledge management
and organizational learning in order to create customer value and, of
course, increased corporate revenue. On the other hand, new boundaries
can also emerge through the use of information systems in the process of
creating customer value. Reasons for this are manifold, including
digital connections that do not work instantaneously due to incompatible
information systems, work practices that are not synchronized, and
diverging organizational cultures.
This mini-track intends to serve as a platform for research on the
intersections between business process management, knowledge management
and organizational learning, taking a boundary spanning perspective. We
invite contributions from various disciplines including information
systems, information management, organization, science, computer science
and management science. Interdisciplinary research that connects the
aforementioned areas is also welcome. We encourage papers applying a
wide variety of methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative,
empirical and theoretical research such as case studies, action
research, surveys, experiments, and design science.

Service-oriented computing (SOC) is considered today a key technology
for the development of robust and high quality intelligent
Internet-scale distributed and embedded applications. Extensive research
and development in the past few years has pushed SOC technology into
state-of-the-art applications in emerging areas such as
Internet-of-Things (IoTs), Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication,
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs), as well as mobile and enterprise systems.
However, many of the critical components on building reliable, robust,
and user-centric, cloud-based service-oriented architecture applications
and systems are still open for research. Hence, it is time to face new
service-oriented architecture (SOA) research opportunities by addressing
new research challenges on emerging applications domains like smart
cities, smart logistics, smart factories and e-Health, to mention only a
few.
Many of the service components are deployed on resource limited embedded
systems and are performance sensitive; others are deployed on cloud
servers providing highly parallel services and on edge servers in the
middle of resource-limited systems and high-end servers. These
components are part of complex applications and systems that span
multiple execution environments. Their capabilities are increasingly
being managed and (re)configured via emerging software-defined and
elasticity mechanisms. In addition, they have to interact with humans in
order to solve complex problems. Thus, on the one hand, SOC may provide
effective solutions for managing the ever-increasing complexity while
meeting the challenging requirements of services on largely distributed,
heterogeneous and dynamic resource environments. On the other hand, the
exploitation of emerging trends in such environments to build SOC
applications and systems for large-scale service-based systems is an
open research challenge.
The 2015 IEEE International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and
Applications (SOCA 2015) provides an international forum for researchers
from multiple disciplines to exchange and share their experiences,
ideas, and latest research results on all aspects of service-oriented
computing. The conference includes three days of parallel tracks
program, special-topic workshops, keynotes and tutorials, and panel

be indicated atÂ
the end of the abstract), preferably using the list of conference's
topics.Â
Papers should be submitted electronically via the EasyChair system using
the following URL:Â
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=soca2015
Please upload a self-contained PDF file. Submissions not conforming to
the IEEE format, longer than 8 pages, or being obviously out of the
scope of the conference will be rejectedÂ
without review. In order to submit your paper, you will first need to
register into the system, if you are not registered already.Â
You may submit an abstract first and upload the actual paper at a later
time (this is in fact strongly recommended). Furthermore, you may revise
yourÂ
submission any number of times before the deadline. Please feel free to
contact the organizers with any questions you may have.Â
All papers submitted to SOCA 2015 will be peer-reviewed by at least 3
reviewers. Papers that are selected for presentation at SOCA 2015 will
appearÂ
in the Proceedings of SOCA 2015, will be included in IEEE Xplore and
indexed by EI. Each paper accepted for SOCA 2015 requires at least one
author to registerÂ
at the full rate (IEEE member or non-IEEE member). At least one author
is required to attend the conference and present the paper.
The best papers from the proceedings will be invited to submit an
extended version for publication in the Springer Journal on
Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA).Â
Furthermore, a Best Paper Award will be presented to the best paper
selected from the accepted full papers.
Workshops, Demos, Doctoral Consortium
=====================================
Specific call for workshop proposals and subsequent workshop papers,
demos, doctoral consortium papers will be issued in the next weeks. All
papers in these categories will appear in the Proceedings of SOCA 2015
and be included in IEEE Xplore and indexed by EI. Papers accepted in
these categories will have to be prepared in their final version by 15
July 2015 and will require at least one author to register at the full
rate (IEEE member or non-IEEE member). At least one author is required
to attend the conference and present the papers in these categories.

CALL FOR WORKSHOP SUBMISSIONS AND PARTICIPATION
MDKE 2015 Workshop on Model-Driven Knowledge Engineering
Wednesday, March 13, 2015 (Vienna, Austria)
http://se-rwth.de/mdke15
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In robotics, developers with different backgrounds and focuses work
together. Nowadays robotic systems consist of a particular hardware
platform with a specific software architecture. Knowledge about sensor
interaction, constraints, and further information is encoded within the
architecture. Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) already impacts other
fields, but widely applicable and accepted approaches in robotics have
yet to emerge. Improving re-use and modularity of robotics applications
requires modeling the implicit knowledge encapsulated in current
robotics modules and models explicitly. Applying Knowledge Engineering
(KE) to model-driven robotics will ease reuse and enable more efficient
robotics software engineering.
This workshop aims to bring together researchers from different fields:
On the one hand languages and tools for MDE have been developed, on the
other hand robotics systems consist of an increasing amount of
heterogeneous software which contains new exploitable knowledge about
their properties and composition. Demands on robotics software regarding
reusability, reliability, expandability, and efficiency are very high,
hence suitable modeling techniques are required to achieve high quality
software products. This workshop provides a platform for presentation of
novel approaches to tackle these challenges by means of MDE and KE and
how they reduce development cost and time. The scope of this workshop
includes, but is not limited to:
- Integration of knowledge engineering with architecture and deployment
modeling
- Composition of modules and components with the help of knowledge
engineering
- Modeling languages for knowledge engineering
- Toolchains for the knowledge-aware modeling of robotic applications
- Applications of knowledge engineering to models at run-time and
self-* properties
- Knowledge-Driven model transformation between languages and frameworks
------------------------------------------------------------------------
