Betreff: [WI] Call for Patterns - 4th Workshop on Ontology and Semantic
Web Patterns (WOP2013)
Datum: Thu, 04 Jul 2013 16:16:50 +0200
Von: Ansgar Scherp <ansgar(a)informatik.uni-mannheim.de>

=== Apologies for multiple postings ===
*****************************************************
Call for Patterns
4th Workshop on Ontology and Semantic Web Patterns
(WOP2013)
http://ontologydesignpatterns.org/wiki/WOP:2013
October 21st or 22nd, 2013
Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour, Australia
*****************************************************
Submission deadline - July 12th, 2013 (11:59pm Hawaii time)
*****************************************************
This workshop provides an arena for proposing and discussing good and
bad practices, patterns, pattern-based ontologies, systems, etc. The aim
is to broaden the pattern community that will develop its own “language”
for discussing and describing relevant problems and their solutions. The
workshop will be held in conjunction with ISWC 2013 and will be a
half-day event.
We invite the submission of research results in the form of ontology
design patterns (ODPs). Patterns submitted should have a general
relevance to the ontology engineering field, or specific interest within
a knowledge domain. Patterns should solve some particular modeling
problem, and be of significant interest for discussion at the workshop.
Patterns should be original, in the sense that they are the intellectual
product of the author(s), however they may still be based on the
collective experience of a community.
---- Pattern Topics -----
Ontology design pattern (ODP) submissions will be collected
* by submitting a description of the pattern (pattern description) via
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wop2013 (select "WOP2013
Patterns Track”)
* through the ODP portal [1]: templates for submission [2] are provided
for the following types of patterns (see general typology [3] for
explanation of the types):
** Content patterns
** Structural patterns: logical and architecture patterns.
** Correspondence patterns: re-engineering and alignment patterns.
For other types of patterns, the author is welcome to submit only a
pattern description.
Detailed instructions for patterns submission, including how to submit
via the ontologydesignpatterns.org portal, are found at the submission
page [4]. Note that an account in the ODP portal is needed for
submitting patterns; thus, authors should take care to request an
account at least one week before their intended submission.
---- Process -----
Patterns are submitted through the ODP portal [1,2], and reviewed by at
least two members of the ODP portal quality committee. Accepted patterns
are to be improved based on the review comments, i.e. an update of the
patterns in the ODP portal is mandatory. Accepted patterns are then
presented as posters at the workshop, in a joint poster session with
poster and demo papers. After the workshop, the patterns may be
considered for certification in the ODP portal.
---- Best Pattern Award ----
Reviewers and workshop participants will together distinguish the best
pattern submission, final decision to be made by the chairs. The best
pattern award takes into account criteria such as the quality of the
submission, the relevance and significance of the pattern, the
presentation of the pattern, and the level of involvement of the author
during the revision phase and poster session discussions during the
workshop.
---- Important dates (2013, 11:59 Hawaii time) ----
* Submission deadline (research papers and patterns) - July 12th
* Notification of acceptance (research papers and patterns) - August 9th
* Camera ready deadline (research papers and pattern abstracts) - August
31st
* Workshop date - October 21st or 22nd

Betreff: [WI] CfP: Semantics For Big Data. Special issue of the
Semantic Web journal
Datum: Thu, 4 Jul 2013 16:29:37 -0400
Von: Pascal Hitzler <pascal.hitzler(a)wright.edu>

Call for papers: Special issue of the Semantic Web journal on
SEMANTICS FOR BIG DATA
http://www.semantic-web-journal.net/blog/call-papers-special-issue-semantic…
One of the key challenges in making use of Big Data lies in finding ways
of dealing with heterogeneity, diversity, and complexity of the data,
while its volume and velocity forbid solutions available for smaller
datasets as based, e.g., on manual curation or manual integration of
data. Semantic Web Technologies are meant to deal with these issues, and
indeed since the advent of Linked Data a few years ago, they have become
central to mainstream Semantic Web research and development. We can
easily understand Linked Data as being a part of the greater Big Data
landscape, as many of the challenges are the same. The linking component
of Linked Data, however, puts an additional focus on the integration and
conflation of data across multiple sources.
Possible Topics
Topics of interest focus explicitly on the interplay of Semantics and
Big Data, and include
the use of semantic metadata and ontologies for Big Data,
the use of formal and informal semantics,
the integration and interplay of deductive (semantic) and
statistical methods,
methods to establish semantic interoperability between data sources,
ways of dealing with semantic heterogeneity,
scalability of Semantic Web methods and tools, and
semantic approaches to the explication of requirements from
eScience applications.
Submissions
Deadline: December 20, 2013 - extensions are possible on request
Submissions shall be made through the Semantic Web journal website at
http://www.semantic-web-journal.net. Note that you need to request an
account on the website for submitting a paper. Please indicate in the
cover letter that it is for the "Semantics for Big Data" special issue.
Submissions are possible in all standing paper type of the journal, see
http://www.semantic-web-journal.net/authors for descriptions: full
research papers, surveys, linked dataset descriptions, ontology
descriptions, application reports, tool/systems reports.
Guest Editors
Frank van Harmelen, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands

2013 Software Defined Networks for Future Networks and Services (SDN4FNS)
http://sites.ieee.org/sdn4fns/
conference-services(a)ieee.org
Software Defined Networks:
A change of paradigm for business or just stuff for techies?
SDN (Software Defined Networks) and NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) are creating the conditions to reinvent network architectures. This is happening first at the edge of the network where ?intelligence? has already started migrating, and it is where innovation is more urgently needed to overcome the ?ossification? by improving networks and services infrastructure flexibility.
It is likely that SDN will impact future networks evolution. SDN principles adoption will allow cost-savings and improvements in the QoS, and even create new business opportunities. It will be a matter of following the thinking that technology and business developments will be more and more strictly intertwined. A certain technology will be adopted not only if it is advantageous and trusted but also if it will be able to enable desired business ecosystems; on the other hand, newly designed potential ecosystems will look for enabling solutions and technologies capable to bring them into reality.

The First International Workshop on
Recommender Systems for Social Networks
(RESSON 2013)
-----------------------------
In conjunction with ICDM 2013
Dallas, Texas, USA
December 8, 2013
http://sydney.edu.au/engineering/it/~pizzato/workshop/resson2013/
Paper deadline: August 3, 2013
======================================================
[[ Call For Papers ]]
Recommenders are a flagship application for knowledge discovery and data mining
since they have become an important tool for dealing with and overcoming the
information
overload in massive and complex data domains. At the same time, social
networking in the
Web 2.0 involves gigabytes of data that can be mined to make recommendations
while they
allow for developing new insights into people's behavior; such insights can be
used for
improving the quality of the recommendations. However, the exploitation of
social information
in recommender systems brings new challenges to the area of data mining and
knowledge discovery.
The goal of this workshop is to highlight these challenges and to solicit
papers that propose
state-of-the-art solutions to recommender tasks on the basis of social
information. Our workshop
shall provide a framework for directing and inspiring new pathways of data
mining and knowledge
discovery research within recommender systems.
Open questions to be addressed in the solicited papers include:
What is the effect of one's social network in their recommendation?
What are the best strategies for recommending team formation?
How to integrate heterogeneous data and different social network
information?
How to ensure privacy whilst still providing relevant recommendations to
users?
How should the few advances on online recommenders be transferred to the
context of social networks?
How should a recommender respond to drifts and shifts in the behavior of
people, how should advances on
learning under drift be transferred in this context?
[[ Topics ]]
We encourage papers submitted to RESSON to focus on the following topics:
Dynamics of social recommenders
Online recommenders
Exploiting bursts in recommenders
Capturing time in social recommenders
Link recommendation and prediction in social networks
Recommendation in time evolving social networks
Mining and learning from social data
Opinion mining for recommendations
Latent models and beyond for social recommenders
Group recommendation in social networks
Collaborative filtering in social networks
Recommendation in social media
Team formation and team recommendation
Community recommendations in social networks
Online dating recommendations
Expert search and expertise recommendation
Rating prediction in social rating networks
Mining social influence
Learning for tagommenders
Learning to recommend images from social data
Scalability of recommender systems
Learning robust models
Fast online recommenders
Indexing social data for recommenders
Learning recommenders from complex data
Location-aware recommenders
Multi-criteria recommenders
Recommendations for the long tail
Incremental learning for social recommendations
Cross-domain recommendation in social rating networks
Privacy issues in recommender systems
Privacy of recommendation in social networks
Recommendation in social networks with distrust

*Introduction*
Interaction facilitated by social media is becoming an integral part of
life in contemporary society, tweaking the human psyche?s deep need to
connect. Having changed the creation, sharing, and consumption of
information, it inevitably must be integrated into the operation of most
human organizations. While some organizations readily adapt themselves
to social media, the majority have struggled. While many public-serving
organizations are trying to embrace social media, these government,
nonprofit, education, and healthcare organizations have complex legal
and ethical environments that create special concerns and constraints.
For these organizations, social media can be a challenge to: perceived
non-partisanship and fairness; student, patient, victim, or client
confidentiality; facility security; employee productivity; protection of
intellectual capital; information and reputation management; and
regulatory compliance and enforcement processes.
The special issue of SSCR aims to investigate and understand different
aspects of social media use in government, nonprofit, education, and
healthcare organizations. We are soliciting original contributions in
the form of evidence-based, ?best practices? studies, scholarship on
legal and ethical issues, case studies, and empirical research. All
lenses of inquiry, including strategic, organizational, behavioural,
legal, economic, and technical are encouraged. We are particularly
interested in interdisciplinary and international research that develops
and applies multiple perspectives. We are interested in success stories,
but we believe that valuable lessons can be learned from failures as
well. Areas to address include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
*Best practices*
* How are government, nonprofit, education, and healthcare
organizations using social media to engage, educate, connect and
collaborate with their external communities? Or with their
volunteers and employees?
* What should employees say and how should they identify themselves
when using social media? Will their contacts differentiate their
personal activity from their official activity?
* How is both freedom of speech and a safe, civil environment ensured
in a social media environment?
* How can privacy and security be protected when photos, videos, and
comments are distributed live, and then quickly redistributed?
* What should be done when third parties (such as former employees and
contractors) violate the privacy of clients, expose confidential
information, or disseminate misinformation?
* How are employees and volunteers informed about social media policies?
* How is the effectiveness of a social media strategy monitored and
measured?
* What mechanisms retard the spread of scams, misinformation and
manipulations.
*Empirical questions*
* What are the costs and risks associated with integrating social media?
* How do social media influence administrative ethics and professionalism?
* How is social media bridging international and jurisdictional borders?
* Do social media enhance or hinder connections to specific audiences
based on age, income, or other socio-demographic characteristics?
* Which social media tools are most used and most effective?
* How often do social media support knowledge-sharing between
organizations?
* How much do social media improve fund-raising and volunteer
recruitment efforts?
* What is the cost of social media addiction in the workplace?
*Submission Guidelines*
Original Manuscripts should be prepared according to the SSCR author
guidelines available at
