Socially intelligent computational systems bring together people and computers, support the creation of radically new forms of collaboration, communication and intelligence and allow the generation of new, emergent behaviors. Socially Intelligent Computing research is closely related to two other areas of research: "social computing", i.e. the design and use of information and communication technologies that consider social context; and to the field of "collective intelligence", i.e. systems that facilitate the collective behavior of groups of individual actors - people, computational agents, and organizations - and exhibit intelligent characteristics such as perception, learning, judgment, or problem solving. The International Workshop on Socially Intelligent Computing (SINCOM) addresses all technological aspects of socially intelligent computing, that span a variety of issues from advanced collaborative systems to using semantic technologies and the web of linked open data to support sociality in computational systems. The workshop aims to attract research that addresses either intra- and cross-enterprise settings or uses intelligent computing infrastructures that exploit social media on the web. There is no restriction in the application focus of work to be submitted: papers from different domains ranging from e.g. corporate idea management to citizen engagement are welcome. The objective of the 1st International Workshop on Socially Intelligent Computing is to bring together researchers, developers and practitioners to discuss research issues and experiences in the study, development and deployment of Socially Intelligent Computing concepts, applications, and systems. The workshop will provide an international forum for the presentation of both theoretical and practical results aiming at the identification of items for a research agenda. All submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. All papers will be refereed by at least three members of the program committee. All submissions must be in English. Papers should not exceed 10 pages in the final camera-ready format. Submissions must be laid out according to the final camera-ready formatting instructions and must be submitted in PDF format. The final proceedings will be published by Springer Verlag as LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science). Additionally, extended versions of the best papers from the Workshop may be considered for a submission in a special issue of an International Journal indexed by ISI Thomson Reuter. All reasonable typesetting formats are acceptable (later, the authors of accepted papers will be asked to follow a particular typesetting format to prepare their final papers for publication.) Papers must not have been previously published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. The first page of the paper should include: title of the paper, name, affiliation, postal address, and email address for each author. The first page should also identify the name of the Contact Author and a maximum of 5 topical keywords that would best represent the content of the paper. The name of the conference that the paper is being submitted for consideration must be stated on the first page of the paper (ie, MSV) as well as a 100 to 150-word abstract. The length of the final/Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will be limited to 7 (two-column IEEE style) pages. Authors whose papers are ACCEPTED will be instructed to upload their papers to a particular web site for publication - the uploaded papers to the publication web site will only be checked for correct typesetting. The proceedings will be published in printed conference books (ISBN) and will also be made available online. The proceedings will be indexed in science citation databases that track citation frequency/data for each published paper (science citation databases such as: Inspec / IET / The Institute for Engineering& Technology; The French National Center for Scientific Research, CNRS, INIST databases, PASCAL (covers the core scientific literature in Science; about 90% of inclusions are journals; only about 9% are proceedings; the set of proceedings that MSV is part of has been selected to be among the 9% - accessable from INIST, Datastar, Dialog, EBSCO, OVID, Questel.Orbit, Qwam, and STN International); and others. Though, there is no guarantee that the proceedings will also be included in EI Compendex/Elsevier indexings, in the past, the proceedings that MSV was part of were included in these databases. Therefore, we will also be sending the proceedings for indexing procedures to EI Compendex/Elsevier. In addition to the publication of the proceedings, selected authors will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for publication in a number of research books contracted with various publishers. These books will be composed after the conference. Also, many chairs of tracks will be forming journal special issues to be published after the conference. Note that authors who submit papers in response to this announcement, will have their papers evaluated for publication consideration in the Final Edition of the conference proceedings which will go to press soon after the conference (the conference would then make the necessary arrangements to ship the printed proceedings/books to such authors). As the most value-adding stage of the process lifecycle, it is dedicated to the development of improved and compliant business processes. Designing a process that improves corporate performance is a challenging task that requires multi-disciplinary expertise and a plethora of inputs (for example, organizational strategies, goals, constraints, and IT capabilities, to name a few). However, unlike other well-defined and theory-grounded stages of the process lifecycle (e.g., process modeling), Process Design is still only poorly understood and lacks a widely accepted and theoretical sound foundation. Existing scientific approaches have focused often on only small, well-understood business domains and are either centered around atomic improvement proposals or general reference models. Overall, much more attention is devoted to process modeling techniques and standards than actual value-adding Process Design. BPD2012 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners who have an interest in advancing the state of the art in Process Design. We seek contributions by authors who wish to share their innovative ideas and insightful observations on the subject. Two main categories of submissions will be considered: regular papers and industry papers. The workshop focuses exclusively on aspects related to process improvement within the process lifecycle. This specialization excludes the well-researched process modeling and process execution. Papers will be accepted only by electronic submission through the conference website, from which submission guidelines and a template for papers are available. A blind-review process will be used to evaluate all submitted papers. Each full registration for the conference will cover a maximum of two papers; each student registration will cover a single paper only. All accepted and registered papers that are presented at the conference will be published in the conference proceedings (CD-ROM/USB) and uploaded to the IEEE Xplore database, which is indexed by Scopus. The proceedings will also be submitted for possible indexing to EI Compendex, ISI Thompson Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) and INSPEC. Awards will be presented to authors of the best papers presented at the conference. These authors, along with authors of other selected papers, may be invited to submit revised and expanded versions for potential publication in the IEEE Transactions on Education, and/or other refereed international journals. (The content of the expanded paper must be substantially different to that of the version submitted to the conference, and publication is subject to peer-review acceptance in accordance with the relevant journal's editorial policies and guidelines.)
