---Organizers---
Alexander Nolte, Michael Prilla, Thomas Herrmann; University of Bochum, Germany
Stephan Lukosch, Gwendolyn Kolfschoten; TU Delft, Netherlands
---Workshop Content---
In the workshop, we want to bring together researchers and practitioners
reporting on the usage and development of shared visualizations, be it e.g.
process models or others. The workshop is intended to provoke discussion and
generate new impulses for practice and research.
The usage of graphical representations of work and business process such as
process models can be considered a common practice in modern organizations. As
their development can become a complex task it is reasonable to draft them
collaboratively. Also they become increasingly useful when used by larger
groups throughout an organization. However despite modeling being a popular
approach in practice, models are hardly used by non-experts and have little
impact on the people actually working in these processes. This raises questions
such as why there is so little use of models after their creation, how this
usage can be increased and which kind of tools and modes of interaction are
suitable for non-modeling experts. Furthermore as collaborative modeling most
of the time remains restricted to collocated facilitated workshops. This
approach however is not feasible as processes have to be rapidly adjusted to
changing conditions inside and outside of an organization. Given the increasing
usage of graphical representations in organizations, their collaborative use
and creation is of vital interest for the CSCW community and therefore this
workshop can be a starting point in forming a research community.
---Topics---
The workshop welcomes different kind of contributions, including the
description of case studies and other empirical work on model usage and
development, position papers e.g. describing future research and educational
experiences with collaborative models usage and development.
Topics of the workshop include but are not restricted to the following:
- Collaborative development of and interaction with models in different
settings such as:
- Processes and approaches of collaborative modeling
- Processes and settings of collaborative usage of process models
- Overcoming barriers for collaborative use and creation of models and
visualizations
- The influence of users on models (e.g. collaborative modeling participants on
models) and the influence of models on users (e.g. users discussing a model and
behavior changes)
---Submission---
We will accept contributions in two different formats:
- Short papers such as reports of best practices or position papers which may
not exceed 3 pages.
- Long papers of such as reports of empirical studies or research in progress
which may not exceed 6 pages.
All contributions have to be formatted according to the ECSCW formatting
instructions and must be submitted in PDF format via eMail to
collabviz(a)iaw.rub.de.
Author kits and paper templates are available at the ECSCW website

Since 1989, it has engaged researchers and scholars from academia and industry
with high quality presentations and intense discussions (www.ecscw.org). ECSCW
is interested in cooperative settings in the workplace, in everyday life, and
the civic society, and across boundaries between these spheres of life.
Submissions should address the unfolding practices of everyday work and life,
and the application of computing technologies in these practices. Papers may
also focus on design of such technologies or on historical accounts of use.
With design is meant processes, methods, and outcoming artefacts. ECSCW
solicits reports reflecting a rich variety of quantitative and qualitative

Submission date: May 2nd, 2011
TRACK DESCRIPTION
Business Process Management (BPM) has emerged as an important field in information systems research. It roots in concepts such as workflow management, business process reengineering, and total quality management. BPM to date characterizes an integrated management approach. As such, BPM seeks to develop a wide range of organizational capabilities facilitating excellence and innovation in business including: IT, Methods, Strategic Alignment, Governance, People and Culture.
In an advancing information society, effective and efficient business processes not only contribute to business prosperity, but also form the basis for the provision of diverse services of our private and social life like it is discussed in research on e-Services. Here, the management of processes across organizational, sectoral, and national boundaries plays an essential role. While former information systems used to be designed according to requirements of specific sectors and business domains (such as production planning and control, retail, banking, or administration) in the e-Service area, new information systems may be designed overcoming such boundaries. Such information systems may for example integrate all services relevant for a customer on one platform like banking services, educational services, health services, social services, and governmental services just to name a few relevant for a typical private household. However, major challenges arise from integrating such services in the most efficient and effective way.
The aim of the e-Services and BPM track is to provide a forum for thought leaders in this area seeking to assist in further leveraging the use of e-Services in our modern economy and society. We believe that BPM can largely contribute to these challenges and, thus, invite contributions on the intersection between e-Services and BPM. We welcome rigorous and relevant contributions from a wide variety of research methods. Submissions will be reviewed by at least three members of the international program committee, and best papers will be recommended for fast track to prestigious BPM-related journals.

Subject: [AISWorld] CSCW 2012 Papers & Notes: expanded
focus, new review process, deadline June 3
Date: Sat, 16 Apr 2011 22:05:15 +0200
From: Volker Wulf <volker.wulf(a)fit.fraunhofer.de>
Reply-To: volker.wulf(a)uni-siegen.de
To: ListeAISWORLD <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
The ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work is
a premier venue for presenting research in the design and
use of technologies that affect groups, organizations, and
communities. CSCW encompasses both the technical and social
challenges encountered when supporting collaboration. The
development and application of new technologies continues to
enable new ways of working together and coordinating
activities. Although work is an area of focus, CSCW embraces
research and technologies supporting a wide range of
recreational and social activities using a diverse range of
devices. The conference brings together top researchers and
practitioners from academia and industry who are interested
in both technical and social aspects of collaboration.
CSCW 2012 will be held February 11-15, 2012, in Seattle,
Washington, USA. The deadline for Papers & Notes submission
is June 3; titles and abstracts of Papers & Notes must be
submitted by May 27.
The early submission date of June 3 reflects a new review
process, wherein authors of promising submissions will be
given a month to revise their 10-page Papers and/or 4-page
Notes to address concerns raised by reviewers and increase
their potential for achieving the level of clear
contribution required for a CSCW Paper or Note. We have
instituted this process to promote greater diversity while
maintaining the high level of quality expected of CSCW
Papers and Notes. Only complete submissions will be
reviewed, and not all submissions will be eligible for
revision, but we hope that the opportunity for revision in
some cases may help prospective authors from outside the
traditional CSCW community to structure the presentation of
their work in a format that is better aligned with CSCW
standards.
The complete Call for Participation, including information
about Workshops, CSCW Horizon, Demonstrations, Panels,
Posters, Videos, the Doctoral Colloquium, and Student
Volunteers - as well as Papers and Notes - can be found at

ECSCW 2011 Workshop in Aarhus, Denmark
Fostering Social Interactions in the Ageing Society:
Artefacts - Methodologies - Research Paradigms
2nd International Workshop in conjunction with the European Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work - ECSCW 2011
24 - 28 September 2011 at Aarhus University, Denmark http://www.ecscw2011.org/
Workshop submission deadline: 15 May 2011
http://fosible.eu/ecscw2011-workshop/
********************************************
Demographic change has stimulated ICT development and research in different fields, such as CSCW, HCI, or the AAL (Ambient Assisted
Living) domain. Enabling 'aging at home' has become a main target in many nations due to economic challenges and demographic changes. 'Aging at home' is situated in a tension between keeping ones' autonomy and social inclusion. This strong socio-cultural embedding of relationships in higher ages contoured by individual and societal norms and values requires socio-technical and user-oriented research approaches common in e.g. the CSCW community. However, due to the extremely heterogeneous target group in terms of technology affinity and acceptance as well as individual needs and conducts of life, it is time to reconsider common research methodologies, technological solutions and research paradigms.
The workshop aims to explore technology design research, focusing on the particular needs of technology use and access in the field of home-based social media supporting social interaction.
The workshop wishes to gather research on ICT fostering social interaction for aging at home from a wide variety and from different perspectives on concurrent artifacts, methodologies, and underlying research paradigms used:
- Social/ Interactive TV, also concerned with the design of innovative input devices for elderly persons. Here, the bandwidth is from easy-to-use remote controls over intelligent furniture to other interactive devices in the home, such as interactive picture frames.
- Social media for social support, such as online communities with special focus on social support for the elderly,
- as well as other technologies such as smart environments, playful interaction technologies as well as games supporting social interaction.
Contributions are welcomed on such topics as:
- Analysis and design of systems fostering social interactions in an ageing society.
- Ethnographic studies on people at home in an ageing society.
- Analysis and design of technology-supported environments at home such as Social TV systems, SmartHomes and SmartFurnitures.
- Approaches to playful experiences and games for elderly or in inter-generational environments.
- Design and evaluation of awareness support in distributed environments.
- Studies on appropriation within communities and home environments.
- Design of software contributing to formulate virtual generational communities.
- Design of (haptic) input/output devices in the context of social media for the elderly.
- Living Lab and real-life, longitudinal oriented approaches to designing and evaluating social systems.
- Usage studies of home-based social media applications by elderly people.
Workshop goals:
===============
The workshop aims at creating a roadmap for the design of ICT supporting social interaction for an aging society. The ECSCW workshop is being seen as a challenging place to gather researchers and professionals across different disciplines and research fields who all are concerned with the support of social interaction for the aging society. In order to achieve these goals, the participants are requested to prepare short presentations. Each author is encouraged to read another accepted paper and to comment on it.
Presentations and topics will be positioned on a common future roadmap and future goals, themes and common activities will be planned and set up. A publication of selected extended workshop papers after the workshop is planned.
Submission details:
===================
Potential participants are requested to submit workshop papers (from 2-10 pages, max. 5000 words) and short information on the background of the authors. Participants will be selected on the basis of the quality and relevance of their papers, and the extent (and diversity) of their backgrounds in design to foster an interdisciplinary participation (designers, developers, psychologists, ethnographers, etc.) from both industry and academia. The maximum number of participants is 15.
Submissions should be in DOC or RTF format accompanied by a PDF version based on the ECSCW template and should be send to:

Stephan Lukosch, Gwendolyn Kolfschoten; TU Delft, Netherlands
---Workshop Content---
In the workshop, we want to bring together researchers and practitioners
reporting on the usage and development of shared visualizations, be it
e.g. process models or others. The workshop is intended to provoke
discussion and generate new impulses for practice and research.
The usage of graphical representations of work and business process such
as process models can be considered a common practice in modern
organizations. As their development can become a complex task it is
reasonable to draft them collaboratively. Also they become increasingly
useful when used by larger groups throughout an organization. However
despite modeling being a popular approach in practice, models are hardly
used by non-experts and have little impact on the people actually working
in these processes. This raises questions such as why there is so little
use of models after their creation, how this usage can be increased and
which kind of tools and modes of interaction are suitable for non-modeling
experts. Furthermore as collaborative modeling most of the time remains
restricted to collocated facilitated workshops. This approach however is
not feasible as processes have to be rapidly adjusted to changing
conditions inside and outside of an organization. Given the increasing
usage of graphical representations in organizations, their collaborative
use and creation is of vital interest for the CSCW community and therefore
this workshop can be a starting point in forming a research community.
---Topics---
The workshop welcomes different kind of contributions, including the
description of case studies and other empirical work on model usage and
development, position papers e.g. describing future research and
educational experiences with collaborative models usage and development.
- The influence of users on models (e.g. collaborative modeling
participants on models) and the influence of models on users (e.g. users
discussing a model and behavior changes)
---Submission---
We will accept contributions in two different formats:
- Short papers such as reports of best practices or position papers which
may not exceed 3 pages.
- Long papers of such as reports of empirical studies or research in
progress which may not exceed 6 pages.
All contributions have to be formatted according to the ECSCW formatting
instructions and must be submitted in PDF format via eMail to
collabviz(a)iaw.rub.de.

---Venue---
The ECSCW 2011 conference will be held at Aarhus University, Denmark from
24 to 28 September 2011. ECSCW is a bi-annual, international conference
series. Since 1989, it has engaged researchers and scholars from academia
and industry with high quality presentations and intense discussions
(www.ecscw.org). ECSCW is interested in cooperative settings in the
workplace, in everyday life, and the civic society, and across boundaries
between these spheres of life. Submissions should address the unfolding
practices of everyday work and life, and the application of computing
technologies in these practices. Papers may also focus on design of such
technologies or on historical accounts of use. With design is meant
processes, methods, and outcoming artefacts. ECSCW solicits reports
reflecting a rich variety of quantitative and qualitative research
methods, including field studies and participatory approaches.

WORKSHOP RATIONALE AND AIMS
---------------------------
In the context of the Web, the word "mashup" is used to denote Web applications that are materialized by integrating data, services and/or presentation of other (data) sources or applications. Mashups and mashup tools with their models, languages, and instruments for mashup development are innovative in that they tackle integration at the user interface level (most mashups do integrate presentation content, not "just" data), they aim at simplicity more than completeness of features (up to the point that advanced Web users, not only programmers, can develop composite applications), and they allow fairly sophisticated development tasks in the web browser.
Over the last years, we have seen many efforts invested in research on mashups, in both the industrial and the academic context, yet we are still far from a common understanding of the problems that drive the research, of the approaches that best fit given problems, and even of the benefits of the results achieved so far.
The goal of ComposableWeb is to stimulate the discussion of key issues, approaches, open problems, innovative applications, and trends in the area of web mashups and lightweight composition on the Web, so as to accelerate progress.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
------------------
Areas of particular interest for the workshop include (but are not limited to):
* Web/service/data mashups
* Web composition technologies
* Web composition models and languages
* Lightweight data integration
* Lightweight application integration
* Lightweight UI integration (integration at the presentation level)
* Lightweight (semantic) metadata or knowledge integration
* Design methodologies with/without user involvement
* Domain-specific mashup approaches
* New development models
* Model-driven mashup approaches
* End user oriented mashup approaches
* User interface aspects of Web composition
* Visual/graphical development metaphors
* Context-aware and personalized Web composition/mashups
* Usability and Accessibility of composite Web applications
* Evaluation/quality of composite Web applications
* Case studies and industrial experiences
TARGET AUDIENCE
---------------
ComposableWeb aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners with different research interests and belonging to communities like Web Engineering, Service Engineering, Business Process Management, Databases, Semantic Web, Software Composition and Software Engineering.
PAPER SUBMISSION
----------------
Authors are invited to submit research papers and demo proposals. Submissions should not exceed 12 pages for research papers and 3 pages for demo proposals and should be formatted according to the Springer LNCS format.
After the successful experience of the 2009 and 2010 editions, we explicitly dedicate again at least one session of the workshop to demonstrations and hands-on discussions. Demos will be selected from the demo proposal submissions and from those accepted papers whose authors are willing to equip their presentation with an according demonstration.
Papers are submitted as PDF files via the ComposableWeb 2011 EasyChair conference management system:
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=composableweb2011.
Submitted research papers may not overlap with papers that have already been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference with proceedings.
PROCEEDINGS
-----------
Accepted papers will be published on the workshop web site ahead of the workshop and in the ICWE 2011 workshop post-proceedings published by Springer in the LNCS series. For a paper to be published, at least one of its authors must register for the main conference and register for and participate in the workshop.
