PAPER ONE
Protecting User Privacy Better with Query l-Diversity
Fuyu Liu, University of Central Florida, USA
Kien Hua, University of Central Florida, USA
This paper examines major privacy concerns in location-based services.
Most user privacy techniques are based on cloaking, which achieves
location k-anonymity. The key is to reduce location resolution by
ensuring that each cloaking area reported to a service provider
contains at least k mobile users. However, maintaining location
k-anonymity alone is inadequate when the majority of the k mobile
users are interested in the same query subject. In this paper, the
authors address this problem by defining a novel concept called query
l-diversity, which requires diversified queries submitted from the k
users. The authors propose two techniques: Expand Cloak and Hilbert
Cloak to achieve query l-diversity. To show the effectiveness of the
proposed techniques, they compare the improved Interval Cloak
technique through extensive simulation studies. The results show that
these techniques better protect user privacy.

PAPER TWO
Globalization and Data Privacy: An Exploratory Study
Robert Totterdale, Robert Morris University, USA
Global organizations operate in multiple countries and are subject to
both local and federal laws in each of the jurisdictions in which they
conduct business. The collection, storage, processing, and transfer of
data between countries or operating locations are often subject to a
multitude of data privacy laws, regulations, and legal systems that
are at times in conflict. Companies struggle to have the proper
policies, processes, and technologies in place that will allow them to
comply with a myriad of laws which are constantly changing. Using an
established privacy management framework, this study provides a
summary of major data privacy laws in the U.S., Europe, and India, and
their implication for businesses. Additionally, in this paper,
relationships between age, residence (country), attitudes and
awareness of business rules and data privacy laws are explored for 331
business professionals located in the U.S and India.

PAPER THREE
Security Issues for Cloud Computing
Kevin Hamlen, The University of Texas at Dallas, USA
Murat Kantarcioglu, The University of Texas at Dallas, USA
Latifur Khan, The University of Texas at Dallas, USA
Bhavani Thuraisingham, The University of Texas at Dallas, USA
In this paper, the authors discuss security issues for cloud computing
and present a layered framework for secure clouds and then focus on
two of the layers, i.e., the storage layer and the data layer. In
particular, the authors discuss a scheme for secure third party
publications of documents in a cloud. Next, the paper will converse
secure federated query processing with map Reduce and Hadoop, and
discuss the use of secure co-processors for cloud computing. Finally,
the authors discuss XACML implementation for Hadoop and discuss their
beliefs that building trusted applications from untrusted components
will be a major aspect of secure cloud computing.

PAPER FOUR
Global Information Security Factors
Garry White, Texas State University - San Marcos, USA
Ju Long, Texas State University - San Marcos, USA
The Internet has changed security and because the Internet is
borderless, security threats are now on a global scale. In this paper,
the authors explore the global nature of information security from the
perspectives of corporate professionals. Through an empirical study
with corporate professionals, who have first-hand information security
knowledge, the authors confirm that the proposed knowledge topics are
relevant toward a comprehensive understanding of information security
issues. Analyzing the empirical data, the authors found two global
security factors: business protection of data and government/social
issues.

CALL FOR PAPERS
===============
(Aufruf zur Einreichung von Beiträgen)
Thema: Qualitätsmanagement und Vorgehensmodelle
-----------------------------------------------
Workshoptermin: 27./28.03.2012
Ort: Information und Technik NRW (IT.NRW), Düsseldorf
Webseite: http://www.vorgehensmodelle.de
Inhaltliche Ausrichtung
-----------------------
besonders hohe Bedeutung zugemessen. Der Workshop des Jahres 2012 hat
den Themenschwerpunkt "Qualitätsmanagement und Vorgehensmodelle".
Trotz aller präzisen Definitionen wird Qualität häufig völlig
unterschiedlich interpretiert.
treffen?
Das Thema Qualitätsmanagement in Organisationen und Projekten und seine
Beziehung zu Vorgehensmodellen kann aus vielen verschiedenen
Perspektiven diskutiert werden. Erbeten werden daher Beiträge, welche
die Abhängigkeiten zwischen Qualitätsmanagement und Vorgehensmodellen
beleuchten und aufzeigen, wie sich Qualitätsmanagement
und Vorgehensmodelle positionieren und integrieren.
Themenvorschläge
----------------

Invitation
In times of great challenges for Europe, all generations are called to
act together, thus also to learn, to produce, share and preserve
knowledge. The 2012 European Year of Active Ageing and the Solidarity
Between Generations serves as framework for raising awareness,
generating innovative approaches and disseminating good practice.
The EDEN Annual Conference will approach the key questions of learning

junior and senior e-learners. We will explore their learning cultures,
technology use patterns and discuss new approaches in pedagogy and
andragogy that respond to them.
Open learning for and amongst diverse generations
Innovative pedagogical models have been significant in empowering
learners and their communities as co-producers in networked lifelong
learning. Helping to spread educational resources as digitised content
which accommodate different learning pathways, widening participation
and promoting shared learning experiences between generations
contributes to closing the technology gap.

Subject: [AISWorld] cfp: Symposium on a Framework for

Symposium on a Framework for Responsible Research and Innovation in
Artificial Intelligence
Call for Papers
In recognition of the Turing Centenary, the society for the study of
Artificial Intelligence and the Simulation of Behaviour (AISB) will be
holding a joint meeting with the International Association of Computing and
Philosophy (IACAP): 2-6 July 2012 in Birmingham, UK.
http://www.aisb.org.uk/convention/aisb12/
organized by
*** Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and Simulation of
Behaviour (AISB) http://www.aisb.org.uk/
*** International Association for Computing and Philosophy (IACAP)
http://www.ia-cap.org/
As part of this event, the UK EPSRC funded project on a Framework for
Responsible Research and Innovation in ICT will host a symposium targeted at
issues of responsibility specific to AI. This symposium is foreseen to take
place on Wednesday 04 and Thursday 05 July 2012. For an updated version of
the call for papers please check:
www.responsible-innovation.org.uk
Background
Despite the plethora of ethical issues related to or arising from artificial
intelligence, there is little guidance on what it would mean to undertake
research in the area in a responsible way. Ethical issues that are currently
being discussed include whether and under what conditions artificial agents
are capable of being moral subjects, which rights or obligations they have
or should have or how moral codes and ethical theories will have to change
in the light of potentially autonomous artificial intelligence, to name but
a few. In the light of these highly interesting and very complex questions,
researchers interested in ethics and AI have tended to pay much less
attention to the types of responsibility issues research on AI may raise and
how they can be addressed.
Important questions that need to be answered are: how ethical issues can be
identified in the first place, who is responsible for addressing them, to
whom they are responsible, what the consequences are of such responsibility
and which roles the different stakeholders play in the ensuing network of
responsibility. In addition, it is unclear to what degree recent attempts to
promote responsible research and innovation in other disciplines (Kjolberg&
Strand, 2011; Owen& Goldberg, 2010) are pertinent to ICT and AI. Similarly,
it remains unclear whether generic attempts to provide guidance on ethics in
ICT (Harris, Jennings, Pullinger, Rogerson,& Duquenoy, 2011; Wright, 2011)
are appropriate for the types of problems to be discussed in AI. The
principles of robotics published by the EPSRC[1] include guidance for
designers, builders and users of robots. It is currently not clear how these
principles have been applied in practice and in what way they can facilitate
a responsible approach to AI.
The proposed symposium will draw on work undertaken in two important
research projects. The first is the European FP7 research project ETICA
(Ethical Issues of Emerging ICT Applications, www.etica-project.eu), which
has identified particular ethical issues that can be expected to arise from
AI in the medium-term future. The second is the UK EPSRC project on a
?Framework of Responsible Research and Innovation in ICT? which aims to
provide a community-owned account of responsibility within the ICT area. AI
presents core research questions for both of these projects which motivates
the proposal for this workshop specifically on responsible innovation in AI.
A key incentive of this symposium is to foster discourse between
philosophers& social scientists who are interested in computer ethics and
AI researchers& practitioners who are fluent in the processes and practices
of AI. Providing governance arrangements that give suitable attention to the
ethics of AI will require an equal and overarching understanding of both of
these aspects.
The symposium will therefore aim to specifically attract case studies and
comparable accounts of ethical issues of AI. It will solicit contributions
on the identification of such issues, their resolution, their context and
the way in which such experiences are of broader interest. It is envisaged
that the symposium will be highly interactive to allow space for the
discovery of so far underdeveloped areas in need of research aimed at
understanding ethical issues in AI.
A further outcome of the symposium will be the development of case studies
to be shared among the community. The EPSRC project has set itself the task
of developing an Observatory for Responsible Research and Innovation in ICT
which will be a community-owned resource fostering increased understanding
and discussion of pertinent issues. The project has a significant budget to
be allocated to AI researchers interested in carrying out case studies that
focus on ethical issues encountered in the design and development of such
systems. The proposed symposium will contribute to identifying interested AI
researchers who may want to participate in carrying out case studies.

check the conference website for two other symposia as possible venues for
submitting their research: (1) Moral Cognition and Theory of Mind, and (2)
The Machine Question: AI, Ethics, and Moral Responsibility.
Additional Information
The Congress serves both as the year's AISB Convention and the year's IACAP
conference. The Congress has been inspired by a desire to honour Alan
Turing, and by the broad and deep significance of Turing's work to AI, to
the philosophical ramifications of computing, and to philosophy and
computing more generally. The Congress is one of the events forming the Alan
Turing Year (http://www.mathcomp.leeds.ac.uk/turing2012/).
The intent of the Congress is to stimulate a particularly rich interchange
between AI and Philosophy on any areas of mutual interest, whether directly
addressing Turing's own research output or not.
The Congress will consist mainly of a number of collocated Symposia on
specific research areas, interspersed with Congress-wide refreshment breaks,
social events and invited Plenary Talks. All papers other than the invited
Plenaries will be given within Symposia.

This special issue of the IxD&A journal intends to expand the discussion
that took place during the workshop HCI@Large
(http://www.architettura.uniss.it/chitaly2011/index.php/eng/Workshops/HCI-at…)
HCI@Large was workshop promoted by the IFIP WG 13.1 and is part of CHItaly
2011.
SPECIAL ISSUE BACKGROUND
------------------------
The design of services/artefacts/environments for the mediated
communication has traditionally required the integration of cognitive
science, computer science and engineering; with the time more and more
relevance has also been given to sociology, anthropology, industrial
design and, more recently, also to the design for the experience and to
the architecture. This is due to the embodiment of the machine within
spaces that are becoming increasingly sensitive and co-evolutionary,
because of the miniaturization of the machine that allows us to dispose at
any time of powerful mobile devices and, finally, it is because of the
growing awareness of the experiential nature of any complex communication
process.
> From an educational point of view all this provokes effects of various
kinds: it requires the development of new visions, paradigms and
educational processes; it requires a modification, or rather an
enlargement, of contents and focus of the educational processes; requires
the development of new didactic methods. Unavoidably the educational
contexts involved with the interaction between human and machine is more
and more enlarged and now involve almost any kind of design courses, and
even those on architecture. Technological progresses, in addition, had
another effect, perhaps not so immediately obvious to those who are not
'Digital Native': the educational processes should no any longer take
place within a physical space but can be delocalized/virtualized and
develop within mixed environments; this, as well, requires a redefinition
of educational paradigms and the development of new processes and methods.
It is quite evident that we are experiencing a period of increasingly
convergence and complexity, and that we urge to favor a debate on visions,
processes and methods that should involve not only the areas traditionally
interested in the study of human-machine interaction but also design,
architecture, technology enhanced education, etc..
*** We are looking for top level contributions that could serve to compose
a reference book for those (teachers, students, etc.) that in the future
will be involved in education to the new frontiers of the Human-Machine
Interaction***
