ACM CHI 2010 Workshop on
Context-Adaptive Interaction for Collaborative Work (CAICOLL 2010)
April 10, 2010, Atlanta, GA, USA
Submission deadline: January 6, 2010
http://www.caicoll.org
========================================================================
WORKSHOP GOALS
This workshop addresses facilitation of collaborative work by
context-adaptive techniques. Context-based adaptation can support
users in
a variety of ways, e.g., by offering the tools most appropriate for a
certain type of collaboration, by providing templates for artifacts to
be
produced, or by filtering content relevant for a joint activity. While
adaptive (single) user interfaces have been an area of research for
considerable time adaptation for collaboration is far less investigated.
The notion of context in collaborative work raises a variety of
interesting research issues. So far, attempts to structure and classify
the multi-faceted concept of context have been mainly directed at
individual, rather than cooperative usage scenarios. The importance of
common ground, e.g., for electronically mediated communication has been
pointed out repeatedly, but theoretical concepts have hardly been
translated into explicit models or concrete adaptation mechanisms. We
also
see a major challenge in integrating 'exogenous' physical context such
as
location, time or device used with 'endogenous' context factors such as
the users' roles, topical interests, experience profiles or used
collaboration tools. For this purpose, integrated, coherent
representations of these context aspects will be needed, making them
explicit and exploitable by adaptation mechanisms. Ontology-based
context
models promise to provide coherent representations but are still in
their
initial stages. Other important issues are how to combine individual
contexts into shared collaborative contexts, and how to combine
folksonomy-based bottom-up approaches with the benefits of
standardization
that ontologies traditionally provide. Finally, it is largely unresolved
how to define effective and acceptable adaptations for groups. While
there
has been a considerable amount of research into supporting co-located or
remote meetings, more general issues of supporting collaboration by
adaptations are still open.
The workshop aims at identifying and structuring context factors for
collaborative work, trying to elaborate a generalized notion of context
including physical and tool-related aspects, common ground related to
content and process of the collaboration, and other factors. We will
also
discuss strategies and methods for making these context aspects explicit
by representing them through suitable models, e.g., by ontological
models
of cooperative context. These models will serve as input for discussions
on how to manage and use such context in real-world scenarios. These
activities will serve laying the groundwork for an initiative to build a
shared context ontology for this area.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
An initial list of research issues discussed at the workshop comprises
the
following questions:
- How can the multi-faceted concept of context be structured and
classified for cooperative situations?
- What are methods for integrating 'endogenous' physical context with
'endogenous' context factors such as the users' roles, activities,
topical
interests or experience profiles?
- How to combine individual contexts into group contexts?
- What are suitable models and techniques for representing context for
the
purpose of adapting cooperation support systems? Is there a perspective
for a shared context ontology for cooperative work?
- What are effective and acceptable adaptations at the interaction, tool
or content level we can implement in systems used for collaboration?
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
Context plays an increasingly important role to adapt systems to users'
needs and to make access to large information spaces more efficient.
Yet,
in the area of collaborative work the potential of context-based
adaptation of IT systems has so far not been investigated and
exploited to
a sufficient extent. There is a lack of methods that take into account
the
manifold aspects of context such as physical, activity-based, thematic
or
social context in an integrated fashion.
The workshop aims at identifying and structuring context factors for
collaboration, trying to elaborate a generalized notion of context for
this field. We will discuss strategies and methods for making these
context factors explicit by representing them through suitable models,
e.g., by ontological models of cooperative context. A potential
outcome is
to provide the groundwork for an initiative to build a shared context
ontology for cooperative work. A further goal is to collect and analyze
methods for managing and using context in real-world scenarios,
including
combinations of folksonomy- and ontology-based approaches.
Persons interested in participating should submit a 2-page proposal
describing their background with respect to the workshop theme, their
proposed contribution and an initial reaction to a number of research
issues published at the workshop website (http://caicoll.org). Proposals
should be sent by e-mail to submission(a)caicol.org. Upon acceptance,
participants will be asked to provide an extended position paper of 5
pages four weeks prior to the workshop which will be distributed to
participants. Workshop results will be summarized on the website.
Depending on the submissions received we plan to publish the workshop
results to a wider audience, e.g. as a special journal issue.

to
be formatted according to the ACM SIG Proceedings Template (please use A4 as
paper size NOT letter). Workshop and paper language is English. You can post
your submission using the following URL (please select the "EDBT_2010 PhD
Workshop" as track for your submission):
http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=edbt_2010
In contrast to regular conference papers, submissions should address
specifically doctoral work! Therefore, the following elements are
recommended:
- A clear formulation of the research question.
- An identification of the significant problems in the field of research.
- An outline of the current knowledge of the problem domain, as well as the
state of existing solutions.
- A presentation of any preliminary ideas, the proposed approach and the
results achieved so far.
- A sketch of the applied research methodology.
- A description of the Ph.D. project's contribution to the problem
solution.
- A discussion of how the suggested solution is different, new, or better
as compared to existing approaches to the problem.
Please note, that similar to a Ph.D. thesis, only a single author is
allowed per submission to the Ph.D. workshop. If several Ph.D. students,
usually working together as a team, want to submit, every team member has to
submit individually. The Ph.D. advisor is not stated as co-author.
The intention of this workshop is to support and inspire Ph.D. students
during
their ongoing research efforts. Therefore, it is necessary that authors will
have neither achieved their Ph.D. degree nor officially submitted their
thesis
before the Ph.D. workshop (March 22, 2010). To enforce this rule we require
authors to disclose their expected graduation date and their advisor's name
when submitting. Ph.D. students that have already published significant
parts
of their work at some other major conference (e.g. SIGMOD, VLDB, ER, ICDE,
etc.) are asked to step back and offer other Ph.D. students the opportunity
to
discuss their research topics.
Accepted submissions will be published in the workshop proceedings.
Furthermore, we plan to publish post-workshop proceedings of selected and
revised submissions in the ACM Digital Library, as we did in the last years.
Once again, we plan to award a prize for the best submission.
Participants should register for the EDBT/ICDT conference itself at student
rate.

CALL FOR SHORT PAPERS
First International Conference on Exploring Services Sciences Geneva -
Switzerland,
http://iess.unige.ch
Conference: 17-18-19 February 2010
Submission intention: 10 November 2009 (Instructions included below)
Deadline: 30 November 2009
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theme: 'Services Science Challenges, Issues and Research Potential
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Services Science is not a cosmetic change of existing things. Introduced
by IBM in 2002, it has now emerged and matured in a true
trans-disciplinary atmosphere. Encompassing disciplines not only in
management and engineering, it also draws from disciplines such as social
and cognitive sciences, law, ethics, economics etc. to address the
theoretical and practical aspects of the challenging services industry and
its economy.
Services Science leverages methods, results and knowledge stemming from
these disciplines towards the development of its own concepts, methods,
techniques and approaches thus creating the basis for true
trans-disciplinary gatherings and the production of trans-disciplinary
results. Services Science is building a concrete framework for
trans-disciplinary purposes.
Thus service must be considered in this conference with its multiple
facets: economic, organizational, social, collective, ontological,
regulatory, secure, etc. and also, of course, implemented by means of
informatics. Sometimes it is referred to as information services to
distinguish its restricted meanings in various disciplines like Economy or
Informatics.
The goal of this first conference is to build upon this growing community
to further study and understand this emerging discipline. Academics,
researchers and practitioners of all disciplines are expected to
contribute their results and approaches to Services Science in a
trans-disciplinary setting. In order to achieve the best possible mix of
disciplines and their representation, the conference is structured around
Service research topics, which are trans-disciplinary and around Service
contexts, which are more disciplinary oriented.
----------------------------------
Call for short papers
-----------------------------------
The purpose of the short papers session is to provide a forum for the
presentation of recent work, preliminary results, and even
highly-innovative ideas. Contributions for the IESS1.0 conference should
address the range of topics in Services sciences. Researchers are invited
to submit their manuscripts (research-in-progress, current issues, state
of the art) across a range of parallel topics. All accepted short papers
are published in the proceedings. Best submitted papers could be selected
and invited to submit an extended paper to one of these international
journals:
International Journal of Service Science, Management, Engineering,
and Technology IJSSMET, IGI Global.
Journal of Service Science (JoSS), Springer, Journal no. 12927.
International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector
(IJISSS), IGI Global.
Short Papers must be prepared using the Springer-Verlag instructions for
authors (http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-7-72376-0).
Short papers may be up to 5 pages. Papers must be submitted in PDF format
to mehdi.snene(a)unige.ch.
Submission Intention
====================
Just send an email with your affiliation and the potential title of your
short paper to mehdi.snene(a)unige.ch.

Dear Colleague:
We are editing a book titled "Applied Semantic Technologies: Using
Semantics in Intelligent Information Processing" to be published by Taylor
and Francis in 2010. Existing books on Semantic Web do not focus much on
the practical applications of semantic technologies. This book will cover
the most mature parts of the Semantic Web technologies and their
applications in information & knowledge management.
We would like to personally invite you to submit a chapter/experience
report to our book. The chapter will be due around the first week of
February 2010, but we will work with authors to fit their schedule. We
greatly appreciate your contribution to our book. Please let us know if
you will be able to submit a chapter by sending us a tentative title and
an abstract.
A chapter describing your current research related to Semantic Web or the
use of Semantic Technologies in organizations and its success,
experiences, lessons learned, future plans, etc. would be of tremendous
interest to our readership. Similarly, contributions discussing the
outlook for the Semantic Web in the next decade, research directions, the
future for semantic technologies in organizations, etc. are also welcome.
More information about the book and the potential topics covered can be
obtained at the following url:
http://www.sba.oakland.edu/faculty/sugumara/ShortBookDescription.doc.
We are not limited to the topics listed by any means. If there are other
topics that you think are relevant or you are currently working on that
should be considered, we are open to suggestions.
Thank you for your consideration and look forward to hearing from you at
your earliest convenience.
With Best Regards,

Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. The
camera-ready version of the accepted papers must follow Springer
guidelines (a Latex source file will be required).
If a submitted paper is mainly the result of the work of a student
author, this paper could have the chance to be selected as "Best
student paper" (even if the paper has been written with senior
co-authors). To participate to this selection process, please add the
word "STUDENT" in the affiliation field in the submission form.
Authors of accepted papers must guarantee that their papers will be
presented at the workshop. At least one author of each accepted paper
is required to register with the workshop and present the paper. For
authors presenting multiple papers, one normal registration is valid

Ziele der Konferenz
===================
Arbeit umzusetzen.
Leitthema 2009:
===============
Konferenzverlauf
================
behandeln:
- Nachhaltige Qualität im Projektmanagement (auch im Hinblick auf mittel-
und
langfristige Entwicklungen)
- Steigerung der Effizienz unter Einbeziehung des Faktors Mensch
- Prozesse, Methoden, Tools im Verhältnis zu Motivation, Qualifikation und
Lernen
- Reduce to the Max!? und Stakeholdermanagement
- Green PM oder Lean PM
Inhaltliche Ausrichtung der Beiträge
====================================
