Support of this evolution requires convergent, adaptive and interoperable environments that can sustain and aid social networking, business needs and market trends. The event intends to discuss the intersection of electronic commerce, the evolution of business models, the increased liquidity of competition through increased availability of information, and the impact internet redesign for the existing and future businesses. To this end, we solicit original ideas high-quality research and position papers that analyze and discuss innovative business models, new forms of enablement for digital businesses, community-centric technologies and their role in business as well as cutting edge future internet research with the focus on the socio-economic aspects of these developments. TOPICS: DigiBiz 2009 covers all aspects related to digital businesses and their enablement today and in the future, including, but not limited to, the following: new (digital) business models; new forms of business strategy evaluations; models for evaluating value chain dynamics; economic modeling of new technical architecture propositions; business-driven system design; case studies on new and/or successful digital businesses; socio-economic impacts of new future internet approaches. Contributions presenting new results in research within these areas are sought. Submissions that propose challenging and novel positions that point out new directions are also solicited. SUBMISSION and PROCEEDINGS: All submitted papers would be judged based on their quality through a peer-reviewing process. The length of submitted articles varies according to the three types of position papers; Standard Papers (10 pages), Short Papers (4 pages) and Work-In-Progress Papers (2 pages). Accepted papers will be included in the DIGIBIZ 2009 Conference Proceedings, made available in IEEExplore Digital Library, and a paper-based ICST publication. Best papers will be selected for publication in the ICST and Springer Verlag joint Lecture Notes series (LNICST). A profound transformation has been affecting this model over recent years: a massive transfer of development activities from the US and Europe to a skilled labour force in service-providing countries. This transformation has been driven by the demands of a global business climate seeking to increase the value delivery of IT investment. However, the ability to realise this value can prove problematic in practice. Of particular concern are the hidden costs of globally distributed models of working, such as understanding and communicating the true business needs across organisational and cultural boundaries. To address such issues, offshore outsourcing needs quite different support from in-house development and this means adapting familiar techniques, processes and tools to this setting, as well as perhaps creating innovative new ones. Coupled with this industry transformation there is hence a pressing need to re-examine those software engineering approaches that either facilitate or impede this model of working. With an inevitable focus on the economy in 2009, business decisions regarding the sourcing of software development projects will come under close scrutiny. It will become increasingly critical to design global partnerships that both clarify cost/benefits and enable delivery on business needs. --------------- ABOUT SEAFOOD --------------- The aim of the SEAFOOD series of conferences is to examine offshore and outsourced software development from a software engineering perspective. SEAFOOD strives to: highlight problems faced by industry and provide a forum to share good practices; spotlight new processes, models, techniques and tools emerging from research efforts that are crucial to distributed development, and provide an opportunity for industry transfer; and build a community of educators either offering or planning to offer global software development experiences for students, so as to share project plans and lessons. SEAFOOD is co-located with TOOLS EUROPE (http://tools.ethz.ch), so the use of object technology, component-based and/or model-based software development in globally distributed settings is a synergistic theme. Emerging tools for offshore and outsourced software development may be showcased. SEAFOOD aims to provide an intimate, highly structured and interactive forum for its participants, so it will be organising pre-assigned discussants for the various conference sessions. SEAFOOD also plans to organise an industry round table and educational exchange forum for interested participants. --------------- TOPICS --------------- This year, we particularly invite papers that focus on processes, techniques and tools to understand, communicate and deliver on business needs. Broader topics of interest include, but are certainly not limited to, the following dimensions of globally distributed software projects: + Strategic dimensions - scope decisions; cost/benefit analysis; value propositions; risk assessment and management; vendor selection. + Process and management dimensions - process models, including distributed agile; project management; team organization; customer/ supplier engagement and relationship management; supply chain management; knowledge transfer and management; project governance; quality assurance; metrics and measurement. + Development dimensions - requirements engineering; system specification; architecture; configuration management; traceability; testing; maintenance; deployment. + Infrastructure dimensions - technology and tooling. + Social dimensions - effect of cultural differences on communication, coordination and collaboration; socialisation and community building. + Foundational dimensions - requirements and constraints that characterise offshore and outsourced processes; comparative studies of globally distributed, near-sourced and co-located software development. --------------- PAPER SUBMISSIONS --------------- We invite original submissions of high quality papers in the following categories: RESEARCH PAPERS - technical solutions, empirical studies and survey papers. Research papers are expected to explain how the problem being addressed is relevant to the conference, describe the research approach and include preliminary validation. INDUSTRY PRACTICE PAPERS - country and domain-specific reports. Industry papers are expected to provide sufficient context for understanding the challenges and insights, and to make the more general lessons for global software development clear. EDUCATION and TRAINING PAPERS - experience and proposal papers. Education papers are expected to explain the pedagogical goals of the work, critique their attainment (or not) and provide guidance for others. In all categories: full papers (up to 15 pages); short/position/vision papers (up to 6 pages). Accepted papers will be published in the Springer LNBIP series. This perception is a first step to create SOA ecosystems with Web service markets that link requesters and providers, and support them in their transactions. Outsourcing of IT services to external vendors causes dependency and introduces new challenges. In particular, this applies to the quality of outsourced services. If a mission-critical service is sourced out to an external vendor, the provisioning of the required service and its quality is beyond immediate control of the service customer. The success of the companies depends heavily on the ability to discover and select the right service (meaning the best possible in the given market condition and clients' requirements i.e. given context) for the needs of business processes taking into account both functional and non-functional characteristic of a service. This suggests also a need for defining Web service quality models that may assure the requirements of service users and service providers. Providing correct and up-to-date service descriptions that can be matched against fine-grained search requests is essential for automated service discovery and selection, but it is not always feasible. A single service may provide quite broad, frequently changing, functionality. Describing all aspects of such a service may produce large descriptions that quickly become outdated and where frequent re-publishing may be not feasible. On the other hand, the intricacies of service functionality may depend on the customer at hand, the actual request and current business conditions. Moreover, service providers might not want to disclose some of the details of their functionality due to its sensitive character (e.g., pricing policy). In case of dynamic and customer dependent service, aspects like availability, price, delivery time and lead time cannot be statically described. Functionality offered by such services can be non-deterministic and cannot be generalized into static service descriptions which would be detailed enough for matching against fine grained search requests. Dynamic services call for the discovery and service model that would encompass information dynamism. Two possible directions can be pointed out: (1) user data dependence in service description, (2) support for information provisioning by interacting with a service during the discovery process. Strategies and service models utilizing dynamic information in service discovery and selection process should be further investigated. This workshop aims at gathering researchers and practitioners who present their original work in the topics of service interactions in service ecosystems with a special focus on the interactions mentioned above i.e. (dynamic) service discovery and selection. This has already resulted in considerable research on these aspects that are related to disciplines like Information Systems, Software Engineering and Service Science, as for example, how empirical research should be conducted, what are the conditions for "valid" knowledge, and which the scope of theories in these fields are. These are elements that are of interest from perspectives as diverse as philosophy, engineering and technology. For example, the material and temporal entities that are dealt with in the field are a matter of ontology, and the conditions for credibility of statements and research methods are a matter of epistemology. Hence the relationship and influences between software, information systems and service science will be studied from an ontological view point, but with a broad perspective under which researchers with different background can meet and truly multi-disciplinary issues can arise. As in the previous editions the main goal of this event is to allow challenging and promising cross-fertilization over multidisciplinary research areas to be tackled and investigated by all the participants. The design of systems in which parts have complex interactions, more and more the understanding of theoretical, epistemological and conceptual frameworks coming from the human and social sciences.
