=======================================================================================
Over the last two decades, many organizations and individuals have
relied on electronic collaboration between distributed teams of humans,
computer applications, and/or autonomous robots to achieve higher
productivity and produce joint products that would have been impossible
to develop without the contributions of multiple collaborators.
Technology has evolved from standalone tools, to open systems supporting
collaboration in multi-organizational settings, and from general purpose
tools to specialized collaboration grids. Future collaboration solutions

Introduction
For more than a decade now, firms in countries with appropriate
infrastructures in place have generally been able to exploit emerging
Internet technologies for business purposes. The diffusion process has
been very rapid. However, with regard to e-business adoption, several
studies have shown that firm size is an important factor in driving a
development in which small and medium-sized enterprises lag behind large
firms in their intent and decision to adopt.
Small and medium-sized enterprises are an important growth engine in the
global economy. Small and medium-sized enterprises account for a major
proportion of employment in the economy. For example, according to OECD,
90% of the firms in Europe are categorized as small. An increasingly
improved infrastructure of ICT enables and facilitates for the small and
medium-sized enterprise manager to turn to e-business. Given the promise
that e-business development holds for the small and medium-sized
enterprise manager, and although much has been written on e-commerce and
e-business in recent years, there is yet much work left to be done.
This special issue of the International Journal of Electronic Business
aims to stimulate the creation of academic papers focused on the study
of development of e-business in small and medium-sized enterprises,
ultimately advancing the understanding of how the process of adoption of
e-business evolves in the small business context. The special issue of
the International Journal of Electronic Business will provide an insight
on where we are now within the field including research overviews and
current state-of-the-art research and also at where we are heading by
proposing a future research agenda. Potential contributions may include:
* Papers investigating the process of adoption of e-business among
small and medium-sized enterprises
* Theoretical and conceptual papers that focus on the development of
e-business in small and medium-sized enterprises
* Case studies of both successful and unsuccessful e-business
development in small and medium-sized enterprises
* Methodologies for the study of e-business development in small and
medium-sized enterprises
* Papers that investigate the diffusion of e-business among small
and medium-sized enterprises
Some of the topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* E-business adoption and non-adoption among small and medium-sized
enterprises
* Drivers and barriers of e-business development in small and
medium-sized enterprises
* The role of external parties in e-business development in small
and medium-sized enterprises
* Post-adoption challenges for small and medium-sized enterprises
* E-business diffusion in small and medium-sized enterprises
* Region, sector or industry specific studies on e-business among
small and medium-sized enterprises
* Extent of e-business use among small and medium-sized enterprises
* The benefits of e-business among small and medium-sized enterprises
* E-business and corporate culture in small and medium-sized enterprises
* E-business and business renewal among small and medium-sized
enterprises
* International aspects of e-business for small and medium-sized
enterprises
* Trust, privacy and security issues in e-business for small and
medium-sized enterprises
* E-business and supply chains integration in small and medium-sized
enterprises
* E-commerce and distribution in small and medium-sized enterprises
* Development of e-marketing for small and medium-sized enterprises
* Emerging business models for e-business in small and medium-sized
enterprises
* Development of e-procurement for small and medium-sized enterprises
* E-business and performance
* Future e-challenges in small and medium-sized enterprises

Dear Colleagues,
>From the Editorial Introduction to JMIS 25, 1:
Journal of Management Information Systems is celebrating the twenty-fifth
year of publication. The first quarter-century of JMIS has witnessed its
rise to a leadership position among the scholarly publications in the
field of information systems (IS). More important, these years have seen
the IS field become a rightful member of the family of disciplines, with
its core subject and a coherent body of knowledge within which we deliver
theory-based answers to ever new questions. It brings me joy and
satisfaction to see that the Journal has contributed prominently and
consistently to our field. It has always been the objective of JMIS to
interpret the contour of our discipline broadly, and indeed expand it as
time marches on. Centering on the development, use, impacts, and products
of IS, our research has gained particular salience as the value-delivery
webs are enabled by IS, as dominant firms are organized around their IS,
as they deliver products that are fully or in a large part digital, and as
our societies evolve around electronic relationships and interactions. It
is especially in the impacts domain that our field can contribute at
various levels of analysis and with a great methodological variety. It is
by studying the impacts that we can feed back the knowledge we gain in
order to develop organizational and supraorganizational structures,
systems, and modalities of use that will lead us to higher levels of
performance. Shrinking from this broad field of action is not the way to
success.
You will find the full text of the Introduction at:

the issue, is at:

Thank you for your support and heres to the next quarter-century,

Description:
The purpose of this special issue is to feature recent
advances in data mining and statistical analysis within the
challenging new area of data analytics for decision
support.Current decision makers rely upon a variety of
heterogeneous data and information fragments, to make
well-informed and productive decisions. Advanced methods of
data mining, machine learning and statistical analysis are
utilized to enable them to deal with massive data volumes,
which arrive from different sources, in different formats or
granularities, and with possibly incomplete or unreliable
content. Methodological foundations are also needed to
guarantee the delivery of desired decision support within
predefined narrow time frames, as required for significant
applications such as crisis management or emergency surgery.
The area of data analytics for decision support covers
business applications ranging from strategic or tactical
management, through resource or process management, to
marketing or distribution, and the collaborations they
require. It also involves a large variety of other
stakeholders, including government authorities responsible
for defense, environmental protection, homeland security,
infrastructure, public health, medicine, robotics and many
more.In this special issue, we are soliciting papers
describing methodologies, tools and successful solutions to
facilitate decision support. We also welcome potential data
analytic responses to challenging decision support issues.

Social computing is concerned with the study of social behavior and social
context based on computational systems. Behavioral modeling helps study and
reproduce social behavior, and allows for experimenting, scenario planning,
and deep understanding of behavior, patterns, and potential outcomes. The
pervasive use of computing and Internet technologies provides an
unprecedented environment of various social activities. Social computing
facilitates behavioral modeling in model building, analysis, pattern mining,
and prediction. Numerous interdisciplinary and interdependent systems are
created and used to represent the various social and physical systems for
investigating the interactions between groups, communities, or
nation-states. This presents singular challenges to knowledge discovery from
data and requires joint efforts from multiple disciplines, social computing,
and behavioral modeling in order to document lessons learned and develop
novel theories, experiments, and methodologies in terms of social, physical,
psychological, and governmental mechanisms. The goal is to enable us to
create, experiment, and recreate an operational environment with a better
understanding of the contributions from individual disciplines, forging
joint interdisciplinary efforts to advance science and research.
This special issue promotes an interdisciplinary, fledgling field of social
computing, behavioral modeling, and prediction, and offers a platform for
researchers and practitioners from sociology, behavioral science, computer
science, psychology, cultural study, information systems, operations
research to illustrate pressing needs, demonstrate challenging research
issues, and showcase the state-of-the-art research and development.
