* Aims and scope
With the advent of new powerful and exciting concepts, protocols and
languages, such as Web Services, Semantic Web, Ajax, etc., Web-related
technologies are becoming more and more pervasive and powerful. They
lay the ground to novel kinds of applications and application
frameworks, such as Service Oriented Architectures or Web 2.0
applications, and an increasing number of critical applications make
use of them. At the same time Web applications evolve. They are not
just the easiest path to zero client install software but are becoming
the founding elements of an emerging class of ubiquitous software
systems that foster the evolution of new cooperation paradigms among
people. Novel approaches and techniques, new tools and frameworks are
needed to address the increasing complexity of these applications.
This track aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners from
industry and academia working on practical and foundational aspects
related to Web technologies and existing technologies that in the Web
framework have found new and unexpected application fields. We seek
original contributions that are mainly focused on (but not necessarily
limited to) the following aspects related to Web-technologies:
* Web services (Service Oriented Architectures,
Web services orchestration, semantic Web services, ...)
* (Process-aware) Cooperation on the Web
(Social Networks and Web 2.0,

MoCoHe(tm) 2008 CALL FOR PAPERS
-------------------------------
The First International Workshop on 'Mobile Collaborations for
Hospital-based Health Care' (
MoCoHe(tm)) 2008 is an integral part of the 10th @WAS International
Conference on information Integration and Web-based Application & Services
(iiWAS 2008), which will be held in conjunction with the 6th @WAS
International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia
(MoMM 2008), on 24-26 November 2008 in Linz, Austria.
MoCoHe(tm) 2008 BACKGROUND AND GOALS
-------------------------------------
Clinical workers in a hospital ward are, by the very nature of their work,
mobile. The information that nurses, doctors and other health
professionals need in their daily working life however is not always
readily mobile. Detailed patient records, for instance, are usually
accessed via a workstation connected to a database.
The past few years have seen the emergence of research that incorporates
medicine, IT and communications studies, investigating the possible ways
in which ubiquitous computing can address this problem.
However, there remains the open question of how and when to use ubiquitous
computing for ward data management. The use of a mobile wireless
infrastructure can lead to security and reliability problems. Mobile
devices often have usability problems that can only be solved by
technological innovation. Current best practice workflow can be disrupted
by the introduction of automated electronic solutions. There are
interoperability issues for nomadic clinicians who need context aware,
always available connections.
There are several international events that concern healthcare management,
ubiquitous and mobile work and dependability of systems. However, while
these events occasionally involve some overlap of areas, there does not
currently exist a forum for discussing the essential convergence of the
areas, nor in bringing together practitioner and academic perspectives. An
important objective of the MoCoHe(tm) workshop is to bring together
academics
working in information systems and organisational systems; academics
working in communication theory and device dependability; and healthcare
workers interested in developing better ward management systems. The time
is ripe to bring together this combination of expertise, because the
research community is evolving and hospital-based healthcare is moving
towards adopting mobile technologies.
MoCoHe(tm) 2008 TOPICS OF INTEREST
----------------------------------
Contributions are solicited in all areas of pervasive computing research
and applications.
Topics include, but not limited to:
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
1. Enhancing and improving, rather than disrupting and dictating, current
healthcare workflow.
This topic concerns usability and workplace communication issues
that arise from the deployment of mobile solutions. It involves
examination of how technologies can enhance or disrupt information
management at the organisational and architectural level.
2. Dependability and trustworthiness of ubiquitous and mobile devices.
This theme involves the application of computer science theories of
dependability to provide guarantees for required quality of service
levels
3.Data integration across different health service settings.
Electronic health records form an integral part of the modern hospital.
Other emerging areas of electronic health management
include wider integrated networks of records and online health. An
important technical and social problem is how data should be
integrated between these arenas.
4.Technological innovation and interoperation.
Many devices, from handheld computers to ward monitoring equipment, can
now be integrated into a single interoperable framework due to
innovations in wireless and Bluetooth. This theme will examine how these
innovations can be integrated to increase access to health
services, improve cost effectiveness, enhance educational opportunities,
improve health outcomes, provide better quality of
care and enhance social support.

PUBLICATION:
=============
We are pleased to solicit original and unpublished papers for publication
and presentation in the Working Conference on Human Factors and
Computational Models in Negotiation (http://mmi.tudelft.nl/hucom08).
Articles describing novel ideas and applications in all areas related to
human factors and computational models in negotiation are of interest. We
also invite submissions of statements of interests or position papers.
A selection of accepted papers will be considered for publication in the
Group Decision and Negotiation Journal.
AIMS AND SCOPE
==============
Negotiation is a complex and sometimes emotional decision-making process
aiming to reach an agreement to exchange goods or services. Although a
daily activity, extensive research has shown that few people are effective
negotiators. Current state of the art negotiation support systems can help
make a significant improvement in negotiation performance. In particular,
when the negotiation space is well-understood such systems can make a
difference, partly because machines can much better deal with the
computational complexity involved. However, the negotiation space can only
be properly developed if the human parties jointly explore their
interests. The inherent semantic problem and the emotional issues involved
make that negotiation cannot be handled by artificial intelligence alone,
and a human-machine collaborative system is required. Such systems are not
only to support humans in providing strategic advice but also in coping
with emotions and moods in human-human interactio!
ns.
In order to develop human-machine collaborative negotiation support
systems there is a need for the development of computational models,
frameworks, and experimental, user-centred and ergonomic methods that
enable the engineering of negotiation support systems. It is important for
this purpose to study the role of human factors in negotiation as well as
computational models to enable intelligent support for negotiation. To
develop the next generation of negotiation support systems there are still
many, diverse challenges: models of (qualitative, incomplete) preferences,
preference change and strategies, preference elicitation, assessment
methods for negotiation performance, learning and adaptativeness in
negotiation, models of emotion and user awareness, the use and creation of
domain knowledge, user interfaces for negotiation support, human-supported
assessment of opponent, conflict handling styles, experimental methods.
Topics covered include but are not limited to:
 Negotiation strategies (bidding, acceptance)
 Argumentation for negotiation
 Negotiation interaction
 Learning in negotiation
 Negotiation domain knowledge
 Case studies
 Preference elicitation
 Qualitative preferences
 Incomplete preferences
 Ontologies for negotiation (protocols, preferences, domain

CALL FOR PAPERS
International Workshop on
Adaptivity and Personalization in Ubiquitous Learning Systems (APULS 2008)
http://kinshuk.athabascau.ca/apuls2008/index.php
in conjunction with the 4th Symposium on Usability & HCI for Education and
Work (USAB 2008)
November 18-21, 2008 Graz, Austria
****************************************************************************
MOTIVATION
==========
Ubiquitous learning environments overcome the restrictions of classroom or
workplace restricted learning and extend e-learning by bringing the concepts
of anytime and anywhere to reality, aiming at providing people with
educational content in their daily living environments. Using devices such
as mobile phones or personal digital assistants (PDA) allows new
opportunities for learners by being intensely connected. Therefore,
educational content and information can be accessed whenever learners need
it, in different areas of life, regardless of space and time.
While ubiquitous technologies in education is a growing research area,
aspects of adaptivity and personalization become more and more important.
Incorporating adaptivity and personalization issues in ubiquitous learning
systems allows these systems to provide learners with an environment that is
not only accessible anytime and anywhere, but also accommodate to the
individual preferences and needs of learners. Being aware of and considering
the current context of the learners as well as that they have, for example,
different prior knowledge, interests, learning styles, learning goals, and
so on, leads to a more effective, convenient, and successful learning
experience in the ubiquitous learning environments.
This workshop deals with innovative research in the area of adaptivity and
personalization in ubiquitous learning systems, providing a forum to present
and discuss how ubiquitous learning environments can be enhanced with
adaptivity and personalization aspects. The overall goal of the workshop is
to bring people from different fields together, exchange research ideas and
results, and encourage discussion about how to provide learners with
valuable and useful learning opportunities in adaptive/personalized
ubiquitous learning systems.

Betreff: [isworld] MIS Quarterly Announcement: Best Paper of 2007

Von: Jan DeGross <degro003(a)umn.edu>

It is with great pleasure that MIS Quarterly announces the winner of its
2007 Best Paper Award. This year the award goes to Andrew Burton-Jones
of the University of British Columbia and Michael Gallivan of Georgia
State University for their paper entitled: “Toward a Deeper
Understanding of System Usage in Organizations: A Multilevel
Perspective,” published in Volume 31, No. 4, pp. 657-679.
An official presentation of the award will be made at a ceremony to take
place at ICIS 2008 in Paris.
The IS community may be interested in knowing about the process used to
determine MISQ’s award. The process involved two stages, the first being
a nominating stage and the second being a decision stage. In the first
stage, Senior Editors (SEs) of MISQ carefully read all papers published
in the journal during the calendar year 2007. They then indicated, in
writing, their top choice and commented on both that paper and other
papers that were most worthy of the award. These responses were
accumulated and then shared with all other members of the SE Board. The
second stage involved a re-reading and assessment of those papers that
had received a first place nod by at least one of the SEs. These five
papers became the finalists for the award. SEs then rank-ordered all
five papers, with a 1.0 score going to the first place paper, a .8 score
going to the second place paper, etc. The highest vote-getter was then
designated as the winner. To ensure fairness, SEs who had a conflict of
interest with any of the authors published in 2007 recused themselves
from the process.

========================= CALL FOR PAPERS =========================
Second International Workshop SMR2 2008 on Service Matchmaking and
Resource Retrieval in the Semantic Web
http://www-ags.dfki.uni-sb.de/~klusch/smr2-08/index.html
Co-located with the 7th International Semantic Web Conference ISWC 2008
October 27, 2008 Karlsruhe, Germany
+ Aims & Scope:
One challenge of service coordination in the semantic Web is concerned
with how to best connect the ultimate service requester with the
ultimate service provider? Like intermediaries in the physical economy,
a special kind of software agents, so called middle-agents, is supposed
to solve this problem based on the declarative characterization of the
capabilities of both service requester and provider agents. In fact, the
standard Web service interaction pattern includes a central role for a
classical service matchmaking capability.
More generally, resource retrieval extends the notion of service
matchmaking to the process of discovering any kind of resource
(services, data, information, knowledge, even persons and organizations)
for given settings, participating entities, and purposes. It is at the
core of several scenarios in the Semantic Web area, spanning from
web-services, grid computing, and Peer-to-Peer computing, to
applications such as e-commerce, human resource management, or social
networks applications such as mating and dating services.
The main objective of the SMR2 workshop is to bring together researchers
and industry participants who tackle semantic service matchmaking and
resource retrieval from various points of view, in order to not only
further analyse these challenges and problems but moving towards their
resolution.
+ Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Advanced searching of services and other resources in the semantic Web
- Approaches to matchmaking and brokering in the semantic Web, with a
particular emphasis on semantic web services
- Semantic retrieval of resources and services in P2P and Grid networks
- Matchmaking in e-commerce scenarios: auctions, e-marketplaces,
supply chains
- Matchmaking in other application scenarios: e-government, biopharma, etc.
- Composition planning of semantic Web services
- Negotiation of semantic Web services and resources
- Interleaving of discovery, composition, and negotiation of semantic
Web services
- Semantic Web services selection
- Formal description and handling of semantic Web services, queries,
and resources
- Non-functional service properties and their use for discovery (and
composition)
- Trust issues of semantic Web service discovery
- Prototypes and tools for semantic Web services engineering
- Practical and user-oriented issues and experiences of implementing
SW service retrieval tools
- Experimental comparative evaluation of implemented SW service
retrieval tools
+ Going to Practice: The Second Semantic Service Selection (S3) Contest
The SMR2 workshop also integrates the second edition of the open
international contest on semantic service selection (S3). The S3 contest
is executed in collaboration with the Semantic Web Service Challenge.

SWBES-08: Challenging issues in workflow Applications
http://staff.science.uva.nl/~zhiming/workshop/swbes/2008/
in conjunction with IEEE Int¡¯l Conference on e-Science 2008
December 7-12, Indianapolis USA
Aims and scope
Nowadays, scientific experiments often involve cooperation between large
scale computing and data resources. Workflow management systems are
emerging as a key element to help scientists to prototype and execute
experiments processes and to accelerate the scientific discoveries from
the experiment. Concerted research is carried out in several projects
along the complete e-Science technology chain, ranging from applications
to networking, focusing on new methodologies and re-usable components. A
number of research groups worldwide are developing more and more
advanced workflow features to support scientists to develop complex
computing and data intensive application workflows using geographically
distributed data and computing resources. Despite many successes, the
gap between the workflow application developers and workflow system
developers is still very big and it is still difficult for lots of
potential application developers to fully utilize the features offered
by the workflow systems. The workshop of WSBES08 focuses on practical
aspects of utilising workflow techniques to fill the gap between the
e-Science applications on one hand and the middleware (Grid) and the low
level infrastructure on the other hand. The workshop aims to provide a
forum for researchers and developers in the field of e-Science to
exchange the latest experience and research ideas on scientific workflow
management and e-Science. Live demos of workflow systems and workflow
application highly recommended.
Topics
Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts that demonstrate
current research in all areas of scientific workflow management in
e-Science. The workshop solicits novel papers on using business workflow
standards to tackle scientific workflow issues, including but not
limited to:
* Workflow infrastructure and e-Science middleware
* Workflow API and graphical user interface
* Workflow modelling techniques
* Workflow specification language
* Workflow execution engine
* Dynamic workflow control
* Workflow verification and validation
* Workflow system performance analysis
* Support tools for managing workflows
* AI techniques in workflow management, e.g., planning, runtime control
and user support;
* Security control in managing workflow
* Real-world applications of scientific workflow
* Different levels of interoperability among workflow systems;
* Automatic composition of scientific workflow;
* Scientific Workflow Management Systems in e-science framework
* Different domains of e-Science Applications
* Workflow system performance analysis
* Knowledge infrastructure in workflow management;
* Applying workflow techniques for e-science: dynamic control,
verification and validation, planning, runtime control and user support;
* Automatic composition of scientific workflow;
* Knowledge infrastructure for e-Science workflow management
Papers should explicitly address one or more challenging issue faced
while developing a targeted e-Science application. We highly recommend
when possible to prepare a demo which can be shown during the conference.
Paper submission and publication
Authors should submit electronically a full (6-page) paper to the
workshop upload facilitate. The papers will be carefully evaluated based
on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of
expression. Accepted papers should be presented at the workshop. All
accepted papers will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press,
USA and will be made available online through the IEEE Digital Library.
